Haikyuu!! Pairings Aesthetics

Some aesthetic headcannons I associate with some of the Haikyuu!!! pairings. If a ship you wanted to see isn’t here, request it and I will add it to this post. If you have any other requests, feel free to ask!

Also, I’m sorry if these aesthetics seem a little weird or if they don’t make much sense. I just wrote down what I think about when I think about that pairing. Anyway, enjoy!

The autumn is quiet and sunny. The autumn is all-forgiving. Autumn brings deliverance, and reveals all the secrets. It’s time to throw out the trash, to unravel the tangles, to store things and feelings for the wintertime. It is the time of self-love and peace. Autumn loves us more than we do. Every year she wraps us with her quietly rustling blanket, braids our hair in pigtails with wheat and flowers, heals our wounds smiling with the last rays of the sun. This fall has taught me to appreciate the time and listen to my heart. Thank you ♥

~ Time seemed to melt on the way to Bespin, one day into the next in a never ending sea of stars. A collection of scenes from that fateful flight.

A few nights after she cries to sleep in Han’s arms Leia automatically starts going to the double bunk each evening. She always goes to bed (if not to sleep) well before Han, and he stops in the doorway when he notices Leia curled in his bunk facing the bulkhead- and he can’t help but smile. He walks across the cabin with more noise than is necessary in order to not sneak up and startle her, and softly asks if she’s ok. Cocooned in blankets he sees her braids nod and she replies with a voice barely above a whisper- “I’ll wind up here anyway. Could you…could you hold me?”

The next day Han notices the spare bunk has been stripped, the mattress tucked away into storage. The extra blankets and pillows have been layered on the larger bunk- Leia wraps herself in multiple blankets until only her crown braids and the top half of her face can be seen. Han only just hears her muffled request for a hug.

The night cycle ends and the lights softly power up- Han squints into the light, arms around Leia, and it dawns on him that they slept through the night. Leia didn’t scream, cry or whimper, she’d had her first peaceful night in…Han didn’t want to think how long. He slipped his arms from around her and went to to work on the Falcon and give her a well overdue sleep-in. When she emerges he greets her with a caf and “congratulations”

She has relapses of course- but not the full on screaming of the first few nights. The occasional whimpers, tears falling damp on the pillow…the worst is when she calls for her father. Han’s heart breaks for her that night. But a few nights after her first dreamless sleep Leia asks if the running lights can be turned off- and the darkness makes her bold. Han is mostly asleep when she rolls over and softly kisses him.

One night as Han climbs into bed all that can be seen of Leia is a nest of braids, and she stirs when he runs a hand up her neck. He asks how she sleeps like that- wouldn’t it be more comfortable to have it out? Not lying on braids or having pins poke? Leia’s reply is soft but firm- “I must always have it up. It’s tradition”. Han is curious, but doesn’t press. She’ll tell him when- if- she’s ready.

They fall into a routine- Leia is the first to bed, wrapping herself in blankets and lying curled on her side facing the bulkhead. She stares at the rivets until she starts to doze. Han will come in- eventually- and fall down behind her, wrapping his arms around her and softly kissing her neck. They softly talk in the dark, their sentences punctuated with kisses. The conversation starts differently every night but ends up in a back and forth of asking each other questions. It’s through this game that they learn the most about each other- Leia learns Han once had a little sister (although she doesn’t ask what happened), and Han learns Leia got the scar on her foot from broken glass in her father’s office (staining the whole rug in the process, she laughed). They hold each other and eventually the questions get harder, the pauses get longer and they just lie together, each silently thanking the galaxy for bringing them to this moment.

As the routine becomes easier, the questions start earlier, start more playful. A few questions in Han asks something he’s been curious to know, ever since her burst into her quarters one morning at Echo Base- “you jumped and blushed, as if I’d caught you undressed…was it because your hair wasn’t all up?” His hands were on her neck, fingers splayed over her braids, and he felt her nod. “No one is supposed to see my hair down- the only people who have are my parents and Winter…it’s tradition, it’s been a part of Alderaanian culture for centuries…it shows poise, and class…modesty, propriety. The only people to see a woman’s hair should be her husband, immediate family and sometimes very close friends…” she trailed off and Han heard her breath hitch. “And now, it’s more important than ever. If we don’t keep our traditions, our language, our culture…then the Empire has won. Then Alderaan is truly destroyed.” Han gives her a minute, and she sighs before changing the topic- “so how did you get those scars on your knuckles? Some lowly cantina brawl?”

Han becomes fascinated with the idea of seeing Leia’s hair- every morning she disappears into the fresher and emerges with it all freshly styled. He feels like he knows her nearly completely, but her hair is one of the final mysteries. One night as their questions wind down his hands make their way to her hair and his fingers weave under the braids, feeling the pins holding everything together. Without really thinking he starts to wriggle a pin free, and feels Leia tense up next to him. “I’m sorry” he whispers, and Leia’s reply is even softer, “No, it’s…it’s all right” and Han deftly removes the pin. Leia’s heart is racing and she’s struggling to keep her breathing calm. No man had ever seen her hair, save her father, and her mother’s word echoed in her head promise me, Lelila, you won’t undo your hair until your wedding night, the speech about modesty, propriety…but as another pin falls and the braids loosen she can’t help feel…feel that this is right. But her breath catches in her chest and she feels her face flush and what is this feeling…and suddenly Han has worked all the pins out and the braids unravel and she hears his gasp, feels his fingers running through her hair and then he’s kissing her hard and his hands are clenched in her hair and her mother’s words fall away because if anyone deserves to see her unbound then it’s this man who has helped her through so much- they eventually fall asleep with her hair fanned across the pillows. The next morning she lets Han watch as she deftly weaves and pins, and tells him how her father would help with her hair after her mother died.

One evening Han heads to bed early, and hearing Leia in the ‘fresher decides to lie on her side (it makes him smile like a love-struck fool to think that she has a side in his bed) and wait for her. He’s shocked and amazed when she walks out in an old shirt of his that falls to her knees, damp hair cascading over one shoulder…and nothing else. Leia spots him and stops dead, a flush of pink appearing in her cheeks, whilst Han is so smitten he sits up to fully look at her (and he can’t believe that somehow the stars aligned across the galaxy so that this moment is even happening). Pushing aside her shyness, Leia walks over to the bunk and lets Han run his hands through her hair. Suddenly his hands are on her waist, he pulls her down onto his lap and kisses her fiercely, and she’s kissing him back just as hard and his hands are everywhere and before she knows it the shirt is gone and she’s lying on the bunk with him above her and can she do this? Is this a line she wants to cross? but his lips are on her neck and her breathing is hard and fast and she pulls him to her. They sleepily smile at each other in the light of the morning and Leia knows that they made no mistake.

After finishing some of the last repairs, Han searches for Leia before finding her in her favourite spot- curled in the seat of the gun tower, watching the stars spin by. A datapad lies discarded on the floor and her eyes are hazy, watching as Han awkwardly wedges himself beside her. Neither says a word as the galaxy slowly moves around them. “My father used to show me the stars” Leia breaks the silence, not taking her eyes from the viewscreen. “We would wander the gardens and he would tell me of planets, of their cultures, the constellations and their stories…” tears form in her eyes, “He told me that great people always live on, their presence lighting the galaxy like the stars…” Her voice trails off, and Han puts an arm around her. A thought comes to his mind and he keys up a starmap on the display in front of them, quickly gleaning the information he needs and turning his attention to the viewscreen. “There” he takes Leia’s hand and guides it to point to a cluster of stars, “That…that’s Alderaan.” Leia’s eyes widen and a silent tears rolls down her cheek. They stay there for hours, silently watching.

It’s a few evenings later when Han disappears at dinner and reappears with a sealed bottle of Corellian whisky. “A celebration” is his answer to Leia’s raised eyebrow and Chewie’s soft growl. “We passed the halfway point today, and all the repairs are finished- aside from the hyperdrive, she’s in the best condition she’s ever been.” He pours out the whisky, doubles all around, and they toast. The bottle is empty before they know it, all three laughing and joking- Leia hasn’t felt this relaxed in a long time, and eventually the whisky makes her eyelids heavy and the floor spin. She stands, excusing herself and nearly tripping in the process. Han jumps up to catch her and she kisses his cheek, smiling. “I’m going with her” he says to Chewie, who rumbles at Han and ruffles his hair, and Leia tries her best to translate- she figures if she’s going to spend time on the Falcon, and spend time with Han, then the least she can do is learn to understand his loyal co-pilot- but only catches “time” and “cub” in her fuzzy mind. Han laughs and pushes the furry arm away, “thanks pal”, and half-carries Leia to his- their- cabin. Gently laying her down and tucking the blankets around her, he’s taken aback when she grabs his shirt and pulls him to her, throwing all her want and need into her kiss- and he’s happy to oblige. Eventually Leia pulls away, gasping softly, and suddenly the words “I love you” spill from Han’s mouth. Leia’s eyes widen and she subtly pulls back from him, not sure what to think…or what to say. Instead she just pulls him closer. Later, in the dark, she whispers a confession that she hoped they hadn’t passed halfway yet “because that means our time together is coming to end.” “An end? Leia,” his voice has the slightest hint of frustration, “there is no end. Sure there’s the rebellion, but we’ll still be together, we’ll still have each other…right? I promise, I’m not going anywhere.” Leia snuggles in closer, her voice muffled against his chest. “The fight will tear us apart Han, and I couldn’t bare to lose you…” she takes a breath, hesitates, whispering so that Han can’t hear…“I love you”
