HI HI.

So, this is the first Trap Yogi post. This is a big deal. I should probably introduce myself though, right?

I am Emma, this is my baby. The idea came to me first when I got fired from Lululemon. I was the only black girl working in the store in my city…and I felt a way. Like, shitty. I love yoga, I love pilates, I’m a huge fan of barre work too. And talking about this stuff! And telling people what they should wear to do this stuff!

And they were like “it aint nothin to cut that bitch off” it just seems that you aren’t a good fit. It doesn’t help that I was also about 60 lbs larger, and have natural hair….

Antywayz.

My love for fitness and health didn’t die. In fact, it has GROWN. I’m buying books, taking classes, getting my flex on! And basically just doing all this stuff on my own. I’m always the only black girl in the room, feeling a bit out of place and still doing my thing. But this idea kept festering in my mind…..

SO Trap Yogi was born. This will be where I chronicle my own journey as a baby yogi, discuss books I’ve read that you can’t find reviews on everywhere else, review classes I take (especially the free ones AYYYY), tell ya’ll ‘bout my travels and thangs and generally move this dope.

Fuck Wit Me.
Namaste.
etc.

April!!

I am 12 days into April and less than a week away from my 22nd birthday. I wanted to wait to do his post until I had successfully made it through a full 7 days of the plan that I sent forth for myself. As of today, I’m officially 1 full week into my April plan :).  I’ve lost a total of 16lbs since January. My weight loss has been slow but relatively steady. Over the past three months, I’ve been either really consistent with diet or exercise but never both at the same time. This month I’m going to make a real effort to change that. Now that I’ve completed my Honors Thesis (graduating SUMMA CUM LAUDE ☺️) and am close to being done with the semester I think I’ll be better able to keep a handle on everything.

This month I will be following a 6 day a week fitness plan that includes kickboxing, yoga, spinning, and cross fit. I’ve found that classes work well for me. My classmates and instructors expect me to be there every week and that creates and sense of accountability and they also create a really encouraging environment. I am also going to be using Nutrisystem this month. I am actually 2 weeks into the program and starting my 3rd week today. I found a really great deal and Groupon and got a month’s worth of meals for just over $100 dollars so I decided to give it a try and so far so good. I’m going to do another post a little later that shows some of my favorite meals so far. So that’s the plan Nutrisystem and consistent exercise. Consistency is going to be key for me this month. Hopefully, I can make it to between 20 and 25 lbs lost by graduation day! Excited to see where I’ll be by this time next month.
