Biohazard 3: Last Escape

(PS1/JP/September 22, 1999)

Ashamed to say I never played this one growing up. My dad played 1 & 2 so that is what we had. Also this game came out in November in the states. In September of 99 we were graced with the Dreamcast that my father picked up at launch - which meant that he was more looking forward to Code Veronica than “Nemesis” here.

Biohazard 3 - LAST ESCAPE 2000 PC - JPN/US/EU Version (Original) & Taiwan Version Texture Differences

There was actually an official localized release of Biohazard 3 LAST ESCAPE / Resident Evil 3 Nemesis in Taiwan on PC for Windows.

I haven’t been able to find any screenshots online of the different costumes I noticed in it compared against the usual PC version outfits. This wasn’t the only difference but Jill’s face textures were also tweaked and a couple of the models may appear to be slightly skinnier than in every other version!

Some of the original models are shorter but the Taiwan version maintains Jill’s height across models.

Although there are bootlegs and there are mods, we lacked the capabilities to do more than simple retextures (and even then, that was only up to a couple of years ago!) so I thought that others might find it interesting to see the differences!

The reason why some of the textures look weird is that RE3 loads it’s model’s UV maps in a pretty crappy manner - part of the shoulders UV loads from the same area as the wrist, the arms load from the same area as the legs and so-on.

This makes it a pain in the ass to retexture things and have them work in game as it’s not currently possible to write new UV maps and have them work in RE3 PC.

Jill’s “Officer” outfit in the Taiwan version is closer to a punk outfit that includes a metal pin that does actually have the S.T.A.R.S. emblem on it.

The Biker outfit change, there was actually an approved cosplayer/marketing shoot with both a Jill one and a Claire one with matching outfits - unfortunately, I do not have these on hand for comparison.

Biohazard 3: Last Escape Official Guidebook - Complete Conquest of Nemesis

Incredible guide, that has extra info/insight on characters, enemies and plot given by the writer himself - Yasuhisa Kawamura. This was also made in conjunction with Famitsu. All guides should be overflowing with both in game info and extras such as this one. A must own guide for fans of RE3.
