A year ago, Flint, Mich., Mayor Karen Weaver declared a state of emergency because of lead-contaminated drinking water, attracting national outrage and sympathy, and millions of gallons of donated water.

But a year later donations have slowed to a trickle, and little has changed — unfiltered water here is still unsafe to drink.

Water contamination in Flint, Mich., — where the city decided to switch water sources, causing pipe corrosion and ultimately filling the city’s water supply with high levels of lead — has prompted President Obama to declare a state of emergency.

The move, which was requested by Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder, means FEMA is authorized to provide equipment and resources to the people affected. Federal funding will help cover the cost of providing water, water filters and other items.

A state of emergency has been declared by Flint’s own mayor since mid-December.

More than two-thirds of the teachers in the survey reported that their students – especially immigrants, children of immigrants and Muslims – have expressed worries about what might happen to them or their families after the November election.

At a basketball game in Iowa, students from Dallas Center-Grimes chanted “Trump, Trump, Trump” at Perry high school, which is nearly half Latino.

“It’s a hate word,” said Joe Enriquez Henry, Iowa chapter president of the League of United Latin American Citizens.

These are just some examples of how Trump’s rhetoric has resulted in bullying and intimidation across the US.

The Borowitz Report: Bush Says He Will Harm Nation Differently Than His Brother

As an example, Bush said, he was unlikely to invade Iraq for a third time, calling such an action “too derivative.”

“George already did it, and Dad did it before him,” he said. “Call it my independent streak, if you will, but I want to spawn some disasters of my own.”
