#SelfLovingYogis 16-Day March Yoga Challenge Hosted by big-gal-yoga with sponsors @fractal.9 and @stardancerdesigns Day 1-7

#OpenUpToTheNew Day 4–Balancing Table

  • Get onto your hands and knees, with your palms directly under your shoulders, and your knees directly under your hips and hip-distance width apart. Keep a flat back, and you’re now in the standard table pose (neutral spine).
  • From here, lift your right arm and hold it straight in front of your and parallel to the ground. When your have your balance, lift your left leg straight behind you and parallel to the ground.
  • If balance is an issue, your can stay here. Hold for 30-60 seconds, return your leg and then arm to the ground, and repeat on the other side.
  • If you are steady and balanced in the pose, then do crunches in the pose by bringing in your elbow and knee toward your belly button. This should be a controlled movement and focused on your ab muscles. Inhale as you extend your limbs and exhale as you bring them toward your belly. Repeat 10-15 times and then complete on the other side.

#ThePowerOfYoga July Challenge hosted by Big Gal Yoga

Hey everyone this month of July I will be hosting a yoga challenge called The Power of Yoga. I have been wanting to host a challenge for a long while and I am glad to host since there is a lot of fun things happening in July. For one my birthday is this month (July 24th!), and instead of volunteering this time at Wanderlust Squaw Valley I have decided to sit back and enjoy the yoga filled weekend. I called this challenge The Power of Yoga because I feel that I say this saying a lot because practicing yoga has brought me so much happiness that I can’t describe into my life. I feel very humbled to hear that I have inspired many people to start yoga for themselves just by seeing that I can do it, and giving themselves that confidence to go out and try it. Some people think that yoga is just a bunch of silly poses, but it is so much more. People only see the physical, but it’s what yoga does for you internally that helps make you a better person. So let the power of yoga motivate you to go out and practice yoga for yourself. No matter what size you are, you can do yoga!

I will be having both a beginner/intermediate intermediate/advanced pose so everyone can join in and practice! Feel free to modify the pose, whether making it simpler or harder to your level of yoga practice!

#OpenUpToTheNew Day 1–Plank

Tomorrow we start #OpenUpToTheNew, and I’m so excited! Check in the night before for the pose and instructions for the next day.

  • Your core is such an important part of yoga, and the straight-arm plank is a great way to strengthen your abs for all yoga exercises.
  • You have a couple of options in plank–the top one is standard, but if you don’t quite have the strength for this, drop down to your knees as in the bottom photo.

  • Either way, tighten your core muscles, keep your butt down, back straight, and shoulders away from your ears. I find that I maintain better alignment when I pick a drishti (focus point) that’s slightly ahead of me rather than straight down; otherwise I have a tendency to roll my neck and hunch my shoulders.

  • Hold your pose for 15-60 seconds (whatever works for your current ability level), take a 15-30 second break, and repeat 2-3 times. Remember to breathe throughout, because it’s easy to hold your breath as you try to hold to pose.

Trikonasana one of my favorite poses. On the left is a reverse triangle and on the right is triangle from the back cause I wanted to play around with the look of the post. Also remember that @justsmileandnod has instructions/ modifications on her page for all of the poses of the month!

Day 3 Dolphin Plank and Day 4 Balancing Table for the #OpenUpToTheNew yoga challenge with @biggalyoga and @justsmileandnod
For dolphin plank make sure to keep your arms shoulder length apart and try to keep your arms and back straight. This is another core building pose and you can start at holding at 10 seconds or 30 seconds then add more later. In balancing table start off on your hands and knees shoulder length apart. Then lift one of your back legs and the opposite side arm as you lengthening the body. You can try to hold this for 10 seconds on each side. If this is difficult on your knees you put a blanket under your knees.
