big eight

on a scale of one to ten how sad are you.

you almost say seven but the answer floats in your lungs like rising mud. you shift your shoulders. some part of you is already forming an excuse. that it’s not that bad sometimes. one, two, three on a day that the clouds are out. you’re just complaining about stuff. yesterday you laughed past a brick of a four, does that make the brick come down to a two-point-five.  the solid seven panic attack of last tuesday feels somehow like a little thorn, just a regular day full of a gentle three-point-nine earthquake rocking after yesterday’s close-to-an-eight. see but if tomorrow you have a real bad day, it will make today look simple.

and what if. what if tomorrow it’s a big old red eight-point-nine. like one of those days where sirens are going off in every part of you but you’re stuck behind a glass window watching it all burn down. like one of those days that your skin against the air feels foreign. like too much of everything. like sitting-in-the-shower, like can’t-eat, like the tide isn’t just coming in, it came while you were sleeping and now you’ve gotta learn how to swim. like bounce me against a bullet hole kind of day.

you keep numbers like nine and ten way out of reach. those are for the people who really are suffering. you’ve got no excuse. nine and ten are funeral numbers, for real problems, not yours, no. and sometimes you’re fine. and you’re kind of used to it. and it’s not sad, it’s just numb like a television caught on static. numb like i can’t remember if i care about this. numb like nothing works but i can’t be bothered to fix it. that’s not sad that’s every day stuff. everybody feels like this, right? feels like they’ve been shut off. right.

maybe five. right in the middle. like not gonna shoot myself but i’m not wasting your time. a nonanswer. like could be worse could be better. like i need help but i don’t want you to worry even though i need someone to worry about me because i can’t worry about myself. maybe five. but what if five is too small. what if five is too big. what if -

“on a scale of one to ten,” he repeats into your silence, and then pauses. “and please be honest about this.”

Soups! Kitchen Witch Masterpost

One of the easiest and most heartwarming recipes for a kitchen witch, soups! Their recipes are easily manipulated to suit your intention, plus they’re perfect for the upcoming winter!

Basic Ingredients:

- Carrots, Onions, Celery. These are the holy trinity. I also like to add garlic, potatoes, tomatoes, and others.

- vegetable/chicken broth and/or water.

- many recipes call for crushed tomatoes. I like diced, and can find them canned in any grocery store, but it’s up to you!

- (Optional) beans or lentils (if you buy dried lentils, cook them beforehand)

- (Optional) meat–sausage, beef, chicken. Cook before adding to the soup please!

Directions:

1. Cut up vegetables and sautee them in a big pot for about eight minutes. This is to soften them up and sweeten up the onions. Don’t add herbs yet!

2. If you bought canned beans, drain and rinse them. If you want thicker broth, you can crush up a can of beans into a paste and add them to the broth, or even throw them into a blender.

3. Set pot aside. Add tomatoes, beans, meat, broth. Bring to a boil, then let simmer for 20-30 minutes. Add any herbs you wish.

Common Vegetables:

Carrots - sex (with parsley for best results), fertility

Cabbage - lunar food, protection, wealth, prosperity, luck

Onions - protection, purification, healing, exorcism, wealth

Celery - sex, peace, psychic powers, mental strength

Beans - wealth, sex, protection

Potato - protection, compassion

Mushrooms - psychic powers, strength

Common Herbs:

Thyme - love, psychic powers, purification

Basil - love, protection, money, exorcism

Rosemary - protection, consciousness, memory, healing, love

Parsley - protection, sex, love, wealth

Dill - wealth, love, consciousness, studying, luck

Bay - protection, psychic powers, healing, purification, strength

Garlic - protection, healing, strength, psychic powers, exorcism

Ginger - love, wealth, strength, success

Black Pepper - protection, purification, exorcism

Salt - purification, protection, healing

Most herbs are not put into the broth until the broth is simmering, to prevent burning. The exception to this rule is bay, which is put in at the beginning. BEWARE of pepper! The longer the pepper cooks in the soup, the spicier the soup will be!

IF YOU’RE ADDING MEAT:

- Do not cut your vegetables with the same knife you cut meat with.

- Cook meat beforehand, but remember that it’ll be cooking in the broth for a time afterwards, or be careful not to overcook.

- Most meat is diced into half-an-inch-squares.

Other Tips:

- Stir clockwise to create, counter-clockwise to take away.

- You can carve sigils into some vegetable slices.

- Cook with a crystal near your pot to boost a spell’s effectiveness.

- Fire and water are prominent elements here! Draw upon their power.

And that’s it!! Have a lovely winter full of great company and nourishing meals!

i’ve been following eighth doctor fandom members for years, how come nobody ever forewarned me about the time that eight thought he’d accidentally murdered an entire species and then proceeded to purposefully put himself in harm’s way because he felt so guilty about it that he wanted to die

bc i just listened to embrace the darkness and that happened and holy shit

i wanted you to be better

Written because this was announced about Peter Parker and Iron Man 2 and I have a lot of emotions about it. Also based off of this amazing art by the lovely @artinggrace i hope you don’t mind that i wrote this off your art. So here it is! (Cross posted to Ao3)

Peter could hear his parents talking to his aunt and uncle in the other room, but he wasn’t paying attention to what they were saying. His eyes were glued on the evening news that had been left on when everyone had left the room.

The newsman was talking about a press conference that had happened earlier that day, something about Tony Stark and a new robotic hero that had been seen fighting at Stark Industries over the weekend.

Peter’s hands clenched around the toy robot he held in his hands as he watched the red and gold one on screen. The picture was shaky and blurry, but Peter could clearly make out the red and gold robot fighting the big gray robot on screen. The face of it looked angry, its eyes radiating a bright blue that matched the circle of light in its chest. Peter gasped as the robot - Iron Man, as the newsman called him - caught the car that the other robot threw in his arms, gently placing it on the ground before taking off after the other guy.

“Woah,” Peter whispered, clutching his toy tighter.
