The most compelling and emotionally moving arrangement of “A Train”, Ellington’s ear expanded greatly in this era. His arrangements had modern flair but also paid tribute to great composers that came before him such as Gershwin and Debussy. Betty Roche’s vocal is nothing short of amazing and Paul Gansalves’ tenor solo and the later part of the piece is some of the greatest big band tenor-man playing I’ve ever heard.
But they were playing 'The Time Warp'! I hate 'The Time Warp'!
Candy likes it.
I don't care! I hate it! It's boil-in-the-bag perversion for sexually repressed accountants and first-year drama students with too many posters of Betty Blue, The Blues Brothers, Big Blue and Blue Velvet on their blue bloody walls!
