“Tony, when I said we should talk over dinner I meant like Olive Garden or something.” You said looking around at the candle lit room.
It was a very intimate setting; the candles provided a warm atmosphere, there was the faint sound of classical music coming from speakers Tony had hidden so as not to ruin the aesthetic, as lovely as it was it put a lot of pressure on you.
“I figured you deserved better than Olive Garden.” Tony said as he pulled out a chair for you.
“Tony, I can’t. You clearly have feelings for me, feelings which I can’t return.” You told him trying to avoid any awkwardness.
“Is this because of the Registration Act? We can work through that, it doesn’t matter that you have a different point of view.” Tony said reaching for you.
“Stop.” You said firmly. “This isn’t about the Registration Act. I have a boyfriend.” You explained trying to be as clear as possible, you didn’t want to hurt Tony, but you couldn’t lie to him either.
“It’s Steve, isn’t it?” Tony asked knowingly. “Yeah, we didn’t wanna tell the team because we didn’t think it was vital for anyone else to know. I’m sorry.” You said you didn’t really know what you were apologizing for, you weren’t sorry for being in a relationship with Steve, but Tony’s expression conveyed how much you’d hurt him and you felt the need to apologize for causing him so much pain.
“I’m just gonna go. I’ll, um, I’ll see you around.” You said not really sure how to say goodbye. “I really am sorry Tony.” You added before you walked out.
