When I was in 6th grade, my school bus used to cross this dinky bridge across Ten Mile Creek in Bonifay, Fl twice a day. I attended Bethlehem High School which was (and might still be) one of the only all white public schools in Florida. When asked what would happen if blacks tried to go to school here, a classmate of mine said ‘They wouldn’t be let in’. Another said his cousin would 'come up here to the school and mess up their car’. It was very puzzling to me. The school house was built in 1926 I believe. I remember one teacher arranging all our seats to maximize the coverage of the one window A/C unit behind her desk. It was torn down within the last few years and a new building built. If anyone has some more info on BHS, please feel free to respond.
