Quotes by Homer Hickam:

“I had discovered that learning something, no matter how complex, wasn’t hard when I had a reason to want to know it.”

“I didn’t care…about heroes who could read minds or walk through walls or do magic. The heroes I liked had courage and knew more real stuff than those who opposed them.”

October Sky (1999)… based on the true story of Homer Hickam, the son of a coal miner who was inspired by the launch of Sputnik, the Russian Satellite, in the 1950s to study the field of rocketry and aerospace engineering with hopes of one day working at NASA.

I watched this movie for the first time when I was in my 8th grade science class, and watching this film has never failed to inspire me today to pursue happiness and my dreams against all odds. The fact that the film is based on a true story is truly inspiring in itself, for that if one individual can truly turn his life around for the better with determination, persistence, and knowledge despite his poor background or other lack of fortunes, then any other individual can also do the same.
