At only 25 years of age, Ricochet became the youngest competitor to ever win the New Japan Best Of The Super Juniors Tournament on Sunday night! After defeating KUSHIDA in the finals, Ricochet is officially the winner of the 2014 Best of the Super Juniors tournament. He’s also the first American to win the tournament in 18 years, and the first EVER non-NJPW athlete to win. Congratulations, Ricochet!

NJPW BEST OF THE SUPER JUNIORS XXII FINALS Review (June 7th, 2015)

1, Ryusuke Taguchi & Yohei Komatsu vs. Jushin Thunder Liger & Sho Tanaka **¾

2, Tiger Mask vs. Chase Owens **

3, Mascara Dorada vs. Barbaro Cavernario ***¾

4, Bobby Fish vs. Trent Barretta ***½

5, Rocky Romero vs. Nick Jackson ***½

6, TenKoji & Tomoaki Honma vs. Yuji Nagata, Manabu Nakanishi & David Finlay ***

7, Kazuchika Okada & Gedo vs. Yujiro Takahashi & Cody Hall **½

8, Tanahashi, Goto, Makabe, Shibata & Captain vs. Shinsuke, Ishii, Yano, Sakuraba & YOSHI-HASHI ***½

9, BOSJ XXII Final: KUSHIDA vs. Kyle O’Reilly ****¾

This was a really good card, packed with fast-paced action and entertaining match-ups, highlighted by a phenomenal, MOTYC main event. In notable happenings:

Mascara Dorada pinned Barbaro Cavernario in their first ever singles encounter, which was a tremendous display of high flying moves. The bout was going great guns until things fell apart at the finish with a blown spot, which dampened an otherwise excellent match. Bobby Fish submitted Trent Barretta with an achilles lock in a very entertaining collision that told a really good story and Barretta’s Roppongi Vice tag partner, Rocky Romero, scored a victory over Young Buck Nick Jackson with a cradle in an entertaining match.

This years G1 Climax participants were revealed. There were literally no surprises this year as it remains virtually unchanged from the 2014 line-up. Regardless of this I’m sure many of the potential matches will be tremendous. David Finlay continued to impress in a decent six man, that saw him stare at the lights for Honma’s Kokeshi. A Shinsuke Boma Ye set up Tomohiro Ishii’s match winning Brainbuster on Captain New Japan to end a really strong ten man tag encounter, even if we have seen a seemingly endless variation of it throughout 2015 thus far. The main goal here was essentially to hype up several of the Dominion matches. All but one of which we’ve also seen several times this year.

And the main event saw the top two participants in this years BOSJ, KUSHIDA and Kyle O’Reilly, collide in a phenomenal match that far exceeded my expectations, and is one of 2015′s very best matches. After 30:45 of exceptional back and forth action, KUSHIDA got the win after making O’Reilly tap to his Hoverboard Lock kimura.  As a result of the win, KUSHIDA gets a shot at Kenny Omega’s IWGP Jr. Title at Dominion, which should be another great match. If theres any justice, KUSHIDA will walk out of Osaka-Jo Hall on July 5th with the strap, as he’s more than deserving after his performance here.
