how was everyone shocked that elena loved damon?????? I mean Stefan is a vampire, who has murdered, and she seen him kill before so why whould she care that Damon raped her friend, or killed her exes sister, or almost killed her town??? wouldn't she be hypocrite either way??????????

Because those two things aren’t the same. Stefan is a person who actively tries to be the best version of himself and attempts to atone for his past sins. He saved Bonnie, tries to help Vicki, protects Caroline, sympathizes with Matt, he is a kind and warm and sympathetic man who has a darkness in him that’s his vampirism. Elena fell in love with the *man*. She only says she can be with him after he saves Bonnie’s life, they only get back together when he risks his freedom to save Jeremy, in season 3 she lets herself fully go at the 20s dance after he tells her he’ll apologize to Bonnie and owns up to the fact that he has no right to ask her about details with Damon. Stefan continuously strives to be a better person and he isn’t a constant source of terror for the people she apparently loves. The same cannot be said for Damon and that’s what makes DE fundamentally contradictory to her character

Im starting to think being nice to people is a waste of my time because no one is nice back to me

i can completely understand feeling unappreciated and exhausted when you are always the one to give and care more, but being kind is NEVER a waste of time. it may not always be reciprocated, or even deserved, but it isn’t a waste of time and the point in being kind shouldn’t be so other people are kind to you, it should be because it is the right and the more noble thing to do. it takes courage to be kind and to stay soft, especially when people are not kind to you.

i understand what you are saying, i honestly do, but it’s not a waste of time. go to bed every night and wake up every morning knowing you were the best possible version of yourself that day because that is all you can really do.

Do you think Brody got the best (version of) Carrie? It angers me so much that he had so much more with her in 3 seasons than Quinn had in 5.

I hate to paraphrase Gansa on this but Brody got the less mature version of Carrie. She was in many ways a girl - idealistic, self-involved, impulsive. Quinn got Carrie as a woman and a mother who was clearly grappling with how to love in a far more evolved way.

I, too, am angry that there was no viewer payoff for Carrie/Quinn in a standard way–sex, a love confession, or some Homelandian version of either.

But we did get a love story. There was a singular beauty to it, perhaps amplified because it was so unresolved.

As time goes on I think that’s what we will come to appreciate. Right now the wounds are just too gaping. It’s going to take me a long time before I can make peace with this season.

it’s literally his house
