best tv family to ever

The last time a black actor won the Lead Actor in a Drama Series trophy, it was Andre Braugher for Homicide, back in 1998. And the last time an actor in a broadcast series won this prize, it was James Spader for ABC’s Boston Legal in 2007.

Sterling K. Brown’s highly deserved win for This Is Us, then, stood out in multiple ways. (Broadcast dramas, in particular, have struggled mightily in the 2010s, with This Is Us the first nominated for Drama Series since The Good Wife in 2011.)

Brown plays Randall, the black adopted son of the otherwise white Pearson family, and his quest to find his biological father and explore his racial identity made for riveting television in the show’s first season, especially in “Memphis,” the episode Brown submitted for awards consideration, which involved a road trip Randall took with his biological father.

But Brown’s win was memorable for more than just its historic qualities or for his very deserving work. It’s also memorable because his speech was probably the best of the night, with a stirring tribute to performances that had won in his category before (including Breaking Bad’s Bryan Cranston and Mad Men’s Jon Hamm) and a terrific nod toward Braugher himself.

“I just want to say Mr. Braugher, whether at Stanford University or on this Emmy stage, it is my supreme honor to follow in your steps,” Brown said, before pivoting to thanking his TV family. “Milo, Mandy, Justin, Chrissy — you are the best white TV family that a brother has ever had. Better than Mr. Drummond, better then them white folks at Webster.”

Then when the orchestra kept trying to play him off the stage, Brown refused to leave, shouting to be heard as he thanked the show’s writers and directors.

It’s a fun speech and one of the best moments of this year’s Emmys. Watch it above.

I’m recently getting back to watching NCIS Los Angeles and I’ve completely fallen for this show and Densi (one of the best most beautiful and healthy OTP’s I’ve ever had) once again and I would love to see more of it on my dash! So please like/reblog if you post or reblog about NCIS Los Angeles or/and Densi and I will check out your blog!

We shed cells, and grow new ones, and my new cells love you more than the old ones, which is why I love you more every day than I did the day before. It’s science. And when I die and they burn my body and I become ashes that mix with the air, and part of the ground and the trees and the stars, everyone who breathes that air or sees the flowers that grow out of the ground or looks up at the stars will remember you and love you, because I love you that much.

Peak TV Treasure: One Day at a Time

NETWORK | Netflix
CREATED BY | Norman Lear; adapted by Mike Royce and Gloria C. Kellett
NUMBER OF EPISODES | 13 episodes (in Season 1)

PREMISE | This reimagining of the Lear classic puts the focus on Penelope Alvarez (Six Feet Under‘s Justina Machado), an Afghanistan war vet now working as nurse. Recently separated, she is raising her two kids — teenagers Elena (Matador‘s Isabella Gomez) and Alex (newcomer Marcel Ruiz) — with the help of traditional Cuban mother Lydia (EGOT winner Rita Moreno) and friendly building manager Schneider (Grace and Frankie‘s Todd Grinnell). Also in the mix is Dr. Berkowitz (Silicon Valley‘s Stephen Tobolowsky), Penelope’s boss who eventually takes a liking to Lydia.

WORTH YOUR TIME IF YOU ENJOY… | Traditional family sitcoms — not that there’s anything wrong with that. Despite the recent popularity of single-camera comedies, an old-school, four-camera comedy still has the potential to be great. Just ask Lear, who spent most of the 1970s churning out some of the very best multi-cam fare ever on television (see All in the Family, The Jeffersons, Maude). The 94-year-old auteur might not have a writing credit on any of the new episodes, but his signature brand of forward-thinking comedy is not lost here; it’s specifically what makes this reboot shine, and adaptors Royce and Kellet (who hail from Everybody Loves Raymond and How I Met Your Mother, respectively) deserve kudos for honoring both the original One Day and its creator in that regard. And if nothing else, you’re bound to enjoy Moreno’s performance. The woman is a national treasure.

YOU SHOULD PROBABLY ALSO KNOW… | As alluded to above, this show delves into heavier topics than most of the traditional multi-camera fare on network television today. Over the course of just 13 episodes, the show deals with gender inequality, healthcare and veterans’ benefits, depression, religion, alcoholism and PTSD, among other subjects. The series also does a terrific job with the coming out story of one of Penelope’s children.

IS IT COMING BACK? | Yes. Netflix announced back in March that it has renewed the comedy for a 13-episode Season 2. (Premiere date TBA.)
WHERE CAN I WATCH IT? | The complete first season is streaming on Netflix.

"They're in love...?"

2So this is a true story (I swear!) & it made me so happy :-D

My parents are divorced and I live with mother. A few days after Christmas 2016 I visited father’s family and had really interesting chat with my little half-sister (6 years old).

She watched pictures in my mobile phone and with childish interest asked me who are these people… I have photos of some Hannibal characters there.

Then she saw this photo:

And without any knowledge about Hannibal she said immediately:

“They’re in love…?”

“Yes, they are,” I answered.

“Two men? Chi chi,” she noted with amusement.

“Yes, why not?” And she responded naturally:

“So they’ll marry maybe?”

Well, can Hannigram be more explicit? :-D Even little children see it while there are still some adult people who are denying it…Huh :-D

I was only able to remember some old tweets (maybe from Red Dragon Con?) which claim that Mads Mikkelsen said Hannibal and Will got married and have dogs. So I answered with pleased laugh:

“According Mads, they already did it…”

And then we continued to next picture.

Also, now we have this marriage license signed by Bryan Fuller, right? ;-)

Later that day she asked me why he’s picking his nose on DVD I’ve got as a Christmas gift :-D

But it is another story… (:

(firstly posted here on AO3 as I didn’t use my TB back then)

ANOTHER young Fannibal - feel free to tell me your story, too :-)

Dear many, many people who are currently looking for happy, non-dead queer ladies on zee telly!

May I present to you the awesome that is the Canadian series Lost Girl?

It is about a bisexual (ok, let’s be real: omnisexual polyamourous) succubus named Bo, her canonical girlfriend (Lauren) and boyfriend (Dyson), friend-with-benefits (Tamsin), and most importantly BFF (Kensi).

It is ridiculous, cracky, hilarious, fun, will make you laugh, and will probably at least once also make you cry. It is not all rainbows and kittens all the way through (gird your loins near the end of the series and invest in at least three boxes of Puffs with lotion and probably at least one bottle of Jack), and not everyone from episode one makes it to the series finale.

BUT BUT BUT Anna Silk’s breasts are MAGIC, and Bo & Kensi are THE BEST BFFS EVER OMG I CANNOT BEGIN TO TELL YOU, and it is full of LOTS of sexyfuntimes with the ladies as well as the boys and is super sex-positive, and mostly is a rocking crackfest of epic proportions from beginning to end (tho you may choose to fast-forward through chunks of Raynor and I WILL NOT JUDGE YOU I HAVE ONLY LOVE TO GIVE).

I know that SF&F telly has an unfortunate history of queer ladies not getting happy endings, and all too often only tragic endings.

But I thought I’d let folks who may not know about it yet that this show exists, and is dear to my heart, and is chock full of good times. And I’m pretty sure it’s on Netflix and/or Hulu. If not, I will find out where it’s streaming, and update this post.

ETA: also, while there are happy endings for some of the queer ladies, NOT ALL. Tho it’s kinda hard to explain. But it seems fair to warn ahead of time.
