SKAM - oh shocks whoever told me to watch this is an angel! love love love love it to the max! who knew norwegian Bl can be this good?
Like love Series 1-2 -I love the uncut scenes the most. And the story gets better xD
Uncontrolled Love 2 - the directors are very mean. i really thought this was a sad ending…but it was not! love the possessiveness the kiss and the after credits <3

***Advance Bravely (Shi bu ke dang) - oh my goodness! another chinese series aiming to break out hearts for another banning! grr. But angelic people have been posting uncut english subs on youtube weeeeee~ this one’s packing with hot bishies with abs tooooo! must watch!

Make it Right the Series - Very Funny and Sweet!! Kyaa! TeeFuse and BookFrame are my OTPs very much like Lovesick!
***Love love you (Love’s Coming 2) - Finally! I have watched this! yatta~ but I got mixed feelings for this one. Because at the time that I watched it, I am already rooting for OffGun pair (Honey Puppy). I wished that they have more kissing scenes than the bestfriend urgghhh. ooops spoiler *wink*
*** Make it right the series 2 - There were missing scenes, I don’t know it just seems that the story is rushed and some questions are left unanswered. I would like to post questions about it later :)
Junjou Pure Heart - sweeeeteeest ever!  really, those awwww moments xD
Fanatic Love - Game themed BL coming through! I loved the side characters especially the sister <3 Must watch!
Waterboyy the movie - a must watch especially to those fans who have been missing love sick series xD Ngern-oppa is sooo hot here.
Uncontrolled Love- Finally, Master x Servant BL!!! the uke is soo cute and seme is sooo possessive can’t wait for the second part!
My bromance:the reunion - this is the series remake of the movie my bromance. and thank goodness that in the first season nobody dies! a different conflict altogether but still the same plot.
Counter Attack Web series - QingYu for the win xDD. they are sooooo married. I also recommend their photoshoot sessions, more kissing scenes than the series xD loving the doctor’s cow licked hair, kawaiiii xD
Addicted/Heroin Web Series - Sweetest punk I ever watched really. I wish for uncut scenes! and I demand a continuation!
Ame to kisu - Love this movie! it made me read the manga and you will love how cute the uke is and how the story was very well portrayed in the movie
The right man - there are only a few BL movies/series who would portray the love of a parent and their worries. i loved this film because other than the love story unfolding, the relationship between the mother and the son progresses too <3
Yandaixie No.10- honestly, the story has a lot of promise! it was very good but I didn’t like how the first season ended being them still in bad terms…then hearing that there won’t be a second season!!!! or so i heard.
SOTUS - hazers! hihihi. if you’re ooking for a cute-tsundere uke then this is what you’re looking for! it has the all goody kissing scenes and a very good college plot. very recommended
Love’s Coming - Nai x Gump xDDD
Love Place 2(Shiawase no Katachi)- A continuation of Love Place 1. Finally an English sub that I’ve been waiting! Typical BL story, most of the time you can read in a manga but you can feel the characters feeling very deeply!
Grey Rainbow - Has every thing I want in a BL,marriage, sweet moments and even a kid! and it also has something I didn’t like…death! why!?!
Doushitemo Furetakunai - the story is great and is really based on the manga. Loved the characters. this is my first BL ever just forgot to post teehee :P !!!
HIStory webseries: My Hero - so this is one of the ghost themed BL. Comedic. but I do not like that the ghost girl experienced all the sweet moments using the boy’s body. oops spoiler. BTW the seme is sooo hot *wink*
To you for me–chocolates - I laughed at this BL so much. It really portrayed the case of miracles to two people that should be in love. wonder when it will end?
Paternity Leave - you’ll love it, Mpreg xDD
eCupid - movie about the greatest app for semes who take advantage of their uke’s love xD
Just Friends? - hottest and sweetest forbidden love I have ever watched!! sadly it was tooooo short for a very good plot movie xD
*** Honey Puppy 1&2 - the reason why I cringe when Love Love you the movie came out! hahahaha. The first season may not have that much bl romance but it is necessary so that you will get the story on the season 2. The hetero couple there, is so sweet too that you wouldn’t mind if it is not a full BL series.
Udagawachou de mattete yo - sooo cute! as in supeer!!! one of the best live action next to Doushitemo Furetakunai <3 <3
HIStory Webseries: Stay away from me - brother’s theme! yehey! though I wished for more sweetness. the eyes of the uke seem to catch my attention a lot in a not so okay way. but I STILL LOVED IT.
Two Weddings and a funeral - I loved the comedy aspect of it. It mainly focused on the life of gays and how the ‘two weddings” conquered it with love. but why Tina !?!?! why ?!?!?!
My Bromance - I love the on-relationship scenes but I just hope the ending was not when one dies. I bawled for this one,it’s like rising you up,then pulling you dooown, why!?!?!?waaah! But the story was really good!
Happy together - loved the couple sooo much! being 6 years together, those fights and make-ups seems like a typical married life
Oppressive Love - half-horror and half BL and they actually became a couple! to bad the older brother had to possess him…ooops spoiler ;-P
Ai no kotodama 2
Bad romance the series - another side story BL but because they started the series already together and the ending was so sweet so it is okay.
I’m here our twelve years is a reincarnation legend - short shounen ai chinese BL. if you’re on to watching just the sweet, innocent stuff, then this is good for you :)
Takuya and Joon jae “the lover” - you may be a bit disappointed because it is missing some smexy moments like kissing and “you-know” but the story is great with lots of laughs and sweetness. hoping for season 2
Love Complex - this is a thai series but the BL part is a side story and doesn’t develop much though it is still on the first two episodes. some of you may not like it because it is on a side story but promise, the main story is very funny.
Docchi mo Docchi - may be low budget, but that romcom theme was perfectly executed xD sooo funny xD
Itsuka no kimi e - loved the story so much. It was like reading Junjou Pure Heart again xD soooo cute! Wishing for more kiss scenes though.
Ai no kotodama 1
Seven Days Monday-Thursday, Friday-Sunday - perfectly executed as of those of the manga
Hollyoaks (Ste and Harry) - lots of problems; closet gay, HIV, parents are against, even teachers then there are also cocaine involvement. wut?! haha but the story and how they still get back together is what makes it great.
Diary of Tootsies - Very very funny!! as in very funny! but they left Gus and Top’s story hanging, which is what I’ve been waiting…sigh
Fujimi orchestra live action - it’s like the BL version of Nodame Cantabile. the movie needs a sequel. it’s not that they did not end up together but the movie ended with the seme still pursuing the uke xD
Go go go G boys - very funny, packed with hot bishies. Last part after credits is a must seen
Farewell my ghost boyfriend - short movie. I’m not on vote on the new ship. i still wish there was some kind of miracle for the ghost. huhu
Love Place - I preferred the part two (2) than the first one, more Bl action, though it is still not translated
Boku no Kareshi wo Shoukai Shimasu - was hoping for more kiss scenes xD
Gloomy Salad days - ep13-14 only. Hidoku Shinaide story, bully and the bullied. You’ll be hoping for more.
Love of Siam - honestly, a good plot, really. It just needs some tweaks on that bad ending, urgh. Hoping for season 2 to change it.
I’m yours - a one-sided love of a robot to a human and he’s quest to help the guy to achieve love. it was badly cut, I don’t know. it was missing some parts when I watched it so I am still heavily confused.
Love next door 2 - Watched XD but still looking for subs. but very promising especially in terms of comedy and hotness.
Mr x and I - First Season: First and Second story only, the other two has horrible ending, I advise this to those who do not wish to see a sad ending. Second Season: Loved the ending, hated the hetero guy, urggghh
Princess Princess D - actually, this is a live action adapted from a shoujo manga. full of fanservice and crossdressers and will leave you laughing at the clichès and corniness.
Love next door - the story escalated quickly and the ‘love’ (sweetness) I was searching for was too short in the plot.
A Pair of Love - so-so xD
Time line - Watch the first couple only, and/or the last one. never ever the second one, it still gives me goose bumps till now
Me my familiar people - uhhh…actually I didnt quite get the story. it was soo confusing. its like he has s*x to another then I don’t know maybe his bestfriend too?
Teacher and student - because I was expecting that light, romantic theme I was deeply disappointed by that twist as it turns out to be too psychological. One of my least favorites next to Kindan no Koi.
Kindan no koi - simple……i hated it. the plot twist at the end was just tooo much, really, too much. Still a good movie though, but definitely my least favorite.

This is an edited list XD those with *** are newly posted as of Nov 3, 2017. Will update for more lateerrr! Ask me for links if ever you are interested xDDD hehehe

Reasons to watch the New Russian Holmes series (2013)

I’ve blogged a lot about this show over the last month or so, but I’ve been meaning to make a big post about it all in one place, so here we go!

A brief intro for those who care:

Sherlock Holmes (2013), or, as it seems to be popularly called, New Russian Holmes (as opposed to the old Soviet Holmes), is an eight-episode Russian-language Sherlock Holmes adaptation directed by Andrei Kavun, starring Igor Petrenko as Holmes and Andrei Panin as Watson. It first aired in Russia in November 2013, but has had no official English release.

So where can I watch it?

Despite the limited release, all eight episodes are available on Youtube, with English subtitles, translated thanks to the excellent @spiritcc.

Yeah but why should I watch it?

Because it is excellent. I don’t want to spoil people too much because discovering things yourself is really the best, but let’s be a bit more specific:

The opening credits:

Even before the first scene, we get treated to a beautiful opening sequence with really great music, but this isn’t just a sequence to shove credits in your face, it’s not even just an aesthetically pleasing series of shots of Watson’s notebook, the opening sequence forms part of the episode and part of the series as a whole.

Every opening is unique, from the images to the voiceover, and is as much a part of the story as the substantive scenes themselves.

The refreshing take on canon:

If you’re going to watch this, you need to know that the fundamental premise of the show is that the ACD canon lies. Watson’s “stories” are just that: stories. Holmes in real life is different, Watson is different, Mrs Hudson is different, the cases went differently, hell, even Gregson is different. So if you’re looking for a faithful replication of canon, this isn’t the show for you, but once you take on board this fundamental premise, it’s fantastic because it forces you to think about canon in a new light, and to consider the implications of Watson as an unreliable narrator.

You’ll get to see how and why Watson came to write “canon” the way he did, and you’ll get to see how everyone reacts to it. Every other adaptation (with the exception of Bert Coules’ radio series perhaps, but even that adheres to canon quite strictly) treats canon as more or less the “truth” and bases their version off that to create an output; this show treats canon as the output, and works backwards to imagine the “true” series of events behind it. This aspect (at least for me) was one of the most delightful themes to watch develop throughout the episodes, and it really shows how much original thought and passion went into the conception and creation of the show.

Watson as the true protagonist:

This sort of follows on from the fundamental premise of the canon stories being mere stories. Watson is the person through whom we get to know Holmes; everything we read is Watson’s doing, so it’s natural that the protagonist should also be Watson. We see the world from Watson’s perspective.

It’s not a story about this genius Holmes and his sidekick Watson, it’s a story about Watson and his adventures with this intriguing man, Holmes, and in that way it makes the show very grounded and very real.

Holmes the nerd:

For some reason, Igor Petrenko’s Holmes has been likened to Robert Downey Jr.’s Holmes, but I don’t think that’s accurate at all. Whereas RDJ’s Holmes veers more towards grubby cocky action hero who happens to be good at reasoning (and I don’t say that with any scorn), Petrenko’s Holmes is very much grounded in the same sheer intellect that defines canon Holmes, only this version is a more flawed, nervous character, which I think makes him more interesting. Petrenko does an excellent job with the quirks and mannerisms of the character. He also keeps insects in jars in his room.

nerd.

Watson the military man:

A lot of adaptations emphasise Watson’s role as a doctor, but few seem to remember that he was also a soldier, so it’s refreshing once again to see this series not only acknowledge that military background, but to explicitly keep it front and centre the entire time.

Watson the surgeon:

For all its joviality, the show doesn’t shy away from graphic realities either. Watson is more than just a doctor, he’s a surgeon. We see him handle the scalpel more than he does the stethoscope.

Watson the badass:

Yeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh

Watson’s facials:

I know I’ve posted a lot about this but seriously Panin’s acting is really one of the highlights of this show, he was such an excellent actor, absolutely convincing in his role.

Brand new revised subtitles by yours truly!

Over the last two months I’ve gone through and edited all the English subs for the series, so hopefully everything will read a lot smoother! Any remaining mistakes are entirely my responsibility.

The humour:

Sort of reminiscent of the tone of the Soviet series, this series shares that light-heartedness, but it sure as hell isn’t a joke either. It’s not dark and edgy for the sake of being dark and edgy. It doesn’t pull the cheap trick of taking advantage of your feels. The series sets out to tell a story and it tells a beautiful story and you will genuinely love the characters for who they are. And you will feel good about it. Yes, you will even love Lestrade.

Watson taking a bath:

The hilariously bad English (I laugh in good faith):

The creepy autopsy  man:

This weird ass scene:

Never has a show felt more genuine or more satisfying to watch when the final credits roll. This is a Sherlock Holmes that has had thought, love, and appreciation poured into its making, and it shows.

So, llamas, go forth! You can watch the entire series here. I hope you have as much fun as I did :)

The Lost Special: The One Way to Tie Up Every Loose Thread

In the last month this corner of the Sherlock fandom has thrown out a multitude of ideas for a narrative that could potentially resolve every last inconsistency in Sherlock series 4. Not knowing it, this community has debated different readings – all perfectly valid with only minor holes in logic – but have missed how they might all fit together into an intricate puzzle, each reading validating the other.

I have found one way to connect every loose thread.

Topics resolved include:

– EMP Theory vs “TFP as John’s TAB”: why both readings are meant to be exposed to the viewer (but we just found them too early)
– Benedict’s insanely long monologue they mentioned him having in Series 4.
– How another episode would only be comprised of a few new scenes
– Mary’s character development drifting far from her original plotline
– Moffat’s Doctor Who narrative that includes Toby Jones as a Dream Lord and what that means for Amy in “Amy’s Choice” and Sherlock in The Lost Special.
– How POVs intertwine in TFP, and how TPLOSH inspired the way The Lost Special would end.
– The entire bizarre nature of Series 4
– Breaking the 4th Wall
– The focus in The Six Thatchers on “The Duplicate Man”, “Twins”, “Two places at once”, and “Dead AND alive”.
– Three Garridebs
– Benedict claiming “Love conquers all” while Steven Moffat facepalms.

So if you want to know the one way this could all work, check out the rest of this post. But hear me out until the end, suspend your disbelief until you’ve finished, because regardless of whether or not you believe we’re getting The Lost Special, this reading which combines everything we’ve talked about for the last year is definitely arguable and until something else gets proposed, it is the one I’m sticking with til the bitter end.

Why Arya threatening to kill Sansa is one of my favorite scenes in Game of Thrones

Growing up, Arya was sure of two things — that Sansa hated Jon, and that Sansa always wanted to be a queen.

  • Of the Stark siblings, Sansa was the only one who treated Jon like a bastard. The others all saw him as one of them. For many years, Arya watched Sansa treat her favorite brother unkindly.
  • Sansa lied about the whole Arya-Joffrey-Nymeria-Butcher’s-Boy affair to avoid hurting her chances of becoming Joffrey’s bride. Arya watched Sansa stick to this lie, even if her retracting it could’ve saved Lady.

Arya reunited with Sansa with neither of the above in mind. She knew they’re not kids anymore. That Sansa’s brattiness has probably faded away. After all, most of their family is dead. Why should she let the past get between her and her only sister?

But then came the lords demanding that Sansa replace Jon as ruler in the North. Arya is right. It is treason for them to even suggest overthrowing their king. And they did it so bluntly too. With utter disrespect in how they voiced it.

Enter Sansa. Her reply to treason… was brief, dull, indifferent. Arya is disappointed. Arya is confused. Then her memories awaken: Sansa always hated Jon, and Sansa always wanted to be a queen. Maybe she hasn’t changed after all… It all began with that. A couple of facts Arya always knew.

Enter Littlefinger fanning the flames with Sansa’s letter to Robb. And just like that, those two facts become cemented in Arya’s mind. She now thinks it’s very likely that Sansa will betray Jon. After all, she betrayed her own father and her trueborn brother before, asking him to bend the knee to the enemy. Why not betray the bastard brother she never cared for, and to achieve a dream she’s always had?

Angry that Sansa betrayed their family and suspecting that she’s going to betray Jon, Arya confronted Sansa. Threatened her life.

There is no way, for now at least, that Arya will accept Sansa’s excuse of having written that letter under duress. To her, Sansa was either a cold-blooded traitor, or a weakling who didn’t love her family enough at best. Either way, she was disgusted with Sansa. Arya is too much like Ned, who chose dishonor then death to save his daughters. Escaping, murdering, dying… Arya thinks these are far better options than cooperating with the enemy.

In Arya’s eyes, Sansa has now become one of the Freys. Someone responsible for the death of her loved ones. Worse, someone who could still betray Jon now. Arya is not a kid anymore. She’s not about to throw another spoonful of food at Sansa. She’s a Faceless Man now. She’s going to throw her a taste of death.

I absolutely loved this scene because of how true-to-character it is. It reminds me of what Arya was like as a child… of how much of a Stark she is… of how important loyalty is to her… of how similar she is to Ned and Lyanna… of how much she loves Jon… of the fact that she’s deadly now.

Many viewers ignore how this scene is a perfect display both of who Arya has always been and who she has become. The Starks are the good guys in Game of Thrones, so they expect nothing but hugs, kisses and smiles from them.

I read the leaks about the whole season even before Episode 1 premiered. Arya and Sansa will reconcile in the end. But I don’t know why people expected everything to be smooth-sailing in Winterfell the whole season. Game of Thrones is a drama series. Of course the writers will always create drama. And this scene was one of the most honest and best-written slices of drama they have given us.

Yuuri isn’t just a badass he’s also a good person. The reason he can come across ‘cold’ is because of his degree of self-loathing, which causes himself to sometimes not acknowledge how much people around him care about him (something he works on as the series goes on! this is a big part of his character arc). It’s got nothing to do with his view of other people’s value of individuals and how much he cares about them and everything to do with how he views himself. He has trouble forming connections with others because he views himself as someone people wouldn’t want to form connections with. This is not necessarily okay, but it’s literally a huge part of his character arc!! He becomes so much better about this as the series goes on, and it’s wonderful to see.

Here’s the thing about Yuuri Katsuki. He’s a selfless person, to a fault. People completely misread the ‘I’ll let the whole world hate me’ scene. It’s not about selfish love. It’s not about possessive love. It’s about making a choice between caring about how people perceive you and not caring about how people perceive you.

Yuuri thinks that if he goes out there and skates his best, people are going to hate him, see him as taking Victor from the world. He says so what, fuck that. It’s more important to me that I reach my goal. I’d rather me be hated than Victor be hated anyway. Hate me for taking Victor from the world, fine. I just want to skate. I’d rather skate and be hated than have you like me and give up on doing something I love. To help himself in that situation, to give himself confidence, he reminds himself that he is the only person who does know Victor’s love the way he does, which is absolutely true. He reminds himself of the love he has in his life. That it’s unique. That’s it’s special.

‘Victor is the first thing I’ve ever wanted to hold onto.’

Victor is the first thing he’s ALLOWED himself to hold onto (and even then, he tries to let him go later on because he’s self-sacrificing).

There’s nothing selfish about that– or possessive, or anything of the sort. It’s someone looking at adversity and going ‘my goal is more important to me than your perception of me’, and for someone as self-deprecating as Yuuri, someone who has struggled with forming emotional connections because they haven’t felt like people wanted to form emotional connections with them due to their own lack of self worth, this is a HUGE DEAL. It’s awesome.

Allowing Yuuri to in a sense, claim something as his, is actually a triumphant moment for him, because he rarely does this. It’s good and right. Yuuri is often selfless to a fault. When he says ‘I wish to eat pork cutlet bowls with you’ we applaud him. When Yuuri wants something and expresses it, we CHEER for him.

Yuuri spends the entire last third of the series trying to sacrifice Victor despite the fact that Victor, to the audience, CLEARLY wants to stay with him. But Yuuri, darling Yuuri, due to his own anxiety and self-worth issues, sees himself as holding Victor back. He ‘wants to stay in figure skating with Victor forever’, but he’s willing to give up everything he loves so Victor can be happy, no hesitations. He smiles, he doesn’t cry. Heck he’s willing to be called selfish without argument even though that’s obviously nonsense. He’s confident in this decision because it’s just what’s right to him. He’s wrong because it’s not what Victor wants, but never doubt that Yuuri is a good person, a selfless person, who would give up anything in an instant for someone he loves.

Yuuri’s mental illness informs a lot of who he is, and it causes him to stumble and sometimes make it LOOK like he’s undervaluing people but he’s undervaluing himself, and he’s such a good person and he’s so filled with love. He’s loving and supporting and sometimes he just needs to find a way to express it and realize that it surrounds him and people love him in return, and the show is so much about that. Don’t underestimate how good a person Yuuri Katsuki is.

“Cousins forever.”

If anyone needs me, I’ll be over in the corner, drowning in feels.

 。・゚゚・(>д<)・゚゚・。

I feel like not enough is mentioned about Yuri and Phichit’s friendship.
Sure, we do see some interaction during the show but I’m actually thirsty for more.

I’m literally the most happy that Yuri and Victor are soulmates and whatnot… But Yuri and Phichit… They’re something very special.  I think Phichit was the first proper friend that Yuri ever had, that helped him open up and helped him get out more.  Sure when he was younger he had Yuko and Takeshi (granted I think that Takeshi might have pushed him around a little when they were younger) but I feel like Phichit was the one who really encouraged Yuri into being more daring and taking risks and whatnot.

I hope that we get to see more flashbacks of Detroit days in season 2 or even more present day scenes with both Yuri and Phichit because, for me, their friendship is really one of the best parts about the whole series.

Harington is now about to go to work on the show’s eighth and final season. How is Snow going to feel when he finds out that the woman he’s in love with, Daenerys Targaryen, is also his aunt? “I really hope that he just nods slowly and goes, ‘Damned right’,” he says, doing a mock-leer. “Something really horribly inappropriate, and you find out Jon’s had a really sick mind the whole time. That’s the way I’d love to play it. I’ll try it for one take, anyway.”

He is close to Emilia Clarke, who plays Daenerys, though owing to the series’ vast geography, the two did not film together until season seven. “But we were very good friends by the time we got to the sex scene,” Harington laughs and squirms. “Which is really weird. Usually, you’d turn up and you’d know the actor, but you’re not best mates. The main thing was trying not to laugh. It was like, OK, if we laugh, we’ll never get this scene done, so we’ve got to do minimal takes, then we can crack up about it afterwards.”

anonymous asked:

which marvel character thats already in the mcu deserves a spin-off tv show the most?

Mockingbird. Marvel should absolutely make a good Mockingbird TV show, not that ‘Most Wanted’ thing they were trying to put out which sounded lame and I’m glad got cancelled. The character has already been introduced but then they’ve done nothing with her. Each episode should be 30 minutes long, and it should be like a modernised version of an 80′s cop show like ‘Miami Vice’, with flashy cars, and speedboats, and fight scenes, and explosions. They should give her the current blue and white costume from the comics. In fact, they should just adapt the recent Mockingbird comic-book into a series. The comic-book won a whole bunch of awards and was easily one of the best female-led comic-books on the stands.

The best thing about the original series of Columbo? Those few little scenes when no one else is around and Columbo suddenly *drops* the shuffling, dishevelled dim-witted detective act. Falk takes on a cold, calm calculating demeanour.

They’re the key to the whole show.

The man knew what he was doing all along.

say what you will about the loz manga but i think we can all agree that the best adaptation that conveys what the canon scene is like within the whole series is when Link needs a canon for Linebeck’s ship in Phantom Hourglass and Eddo’s acting like “it’s expensive af kid, i don’t wanna cause you a heart attack upon telling you the amount” and then goes on to say “IT’S 50 RUPEES YOU GOT THAT MUCH??” flapping his casted arm like a bird

and then Link’s all “‘50 RUPEES’ ????” because we all know that’s jack shit and a freaking steal but then Linebeck’s like “shit that’s expensive” even tho it’s fucking not and then Eddo’s all “i’ll give it to you for free if you really convince me that you want it”

HOLY SHIT! FOR FREE?? THAT’S EVEN MORE OF A STEAL. IN FACT IT IS A STEAL! And so Link (you, the player) starts declaring in a firm voice that you want that canon but Eddo’s laughing at your lame attempts and so you gradually get louder and louder until you look like a fool screaming into your DS microphone with a mouth big enough for a motherfucking honeycomb

until you’ve caused mass destruction in order to get an item that will only allow you to cause even more mass destruction

just for you to pass out from yelling so loudly but you finally get the damn canon for free

My first attempt at a crossover series; “To Belong”! With subtitles! :D (this was when I realised that I need a secretary because apparently I literally cannot see my own spelling mistakes…) I am working on part 3 like a crazy person, but I have stumbled upon a huge problem in on of the scenes. I think I have come up with a solution though… This whole project is a pretty overwhelming task, but it has been so rewarding! I will do my best to make all remaining 5 parts worth the wait! <3

Plot: “In a land where every human has their own animal form, we follow three orphan siblings as they journey far and wide in order to help a young lord find his way back home.”

Rick’s “Fake” Origin Story?

So this could all just be bullshit but I think I have a somewhat plausible theory on what parts of Rick’s origin is true, who Diane Sanchez really is, and a solid idea to explain both Beth’s and Summer’s hair colors. Under the cut to save your dash because this is going to be detailed and long. So here we go.

Good Stuff - THE TROOF ABOUT STEVEN UNIVERSE - Pt. 1

WARNING: Own up to your farts responsibly; people will think highly of you for it. Present any big responses you have in the inbox. Thank you, take care out there, and enjoy.

I’d go on a spiel about why I did this or who am I, but I don’t want to take too much of your time. Steven Universe is a charming, popular show with a quad-polar fandom, and I’m only here to point out what I say is legitimately wrong with the cartoon. Simple enough? Fair enough. Point number 1:

THE ACTION:

Okay, my first point really doesn’t just apply with cartoons, but fights in general. Question: what’s the one thing that people get the most out of seeing a fight? The impacts. Those moments where the opponent is given such a crushing ass blow, that you can feel the effort that went into that attack. Yeah, Steven Universe lacks this. I mean, it can look like the characters are putting effort into fighting their opponents and it can look like they’re getting hurt pretty bad (thanks to applied visuals and sound effects), but it never feels like the characters are actually hitting each other. There are instances of impact, but they’re menial and they’re scattered between the duelists smacking each other like helium filled action figures; feeling as tender as any other motion the characters do throughout. Now if you’re wondering what I mean by impacts, note these prime examples; because animes know their action.

My Hero Academia (2016)

If present, violence can/should provide a contrast to the supposedly grounded world in any series, and the impacts of violence should be escalating with every punch or kick. Attacks should fly with fierce swiftness, the weight/force of any blow can be seen; raw power, speed, and stamina should be pushed to limits unknown. Now, I’m not saying Steven U has to imitate any incredible, well animated fight scene that anime has flawlessly provided by now, but more effort should have been made to escalate the impact of their fights, not keep it steady lined with

*Smear work to make the boring motions look fast paced

*Spiky white marks to show a clash

*quick visual instances of impact that lets you know a character is getting hurt

*and tons of smoke to cover the possibly graphic imagery

Steven Universe has the fundamentals of action down, but they don’t go beyond that (plus ultra). Their fights can look technically similar with the characters being the only real source of variation, especially when you can figure out their attacks ahead of time. So I hate to say this, but if you’ve seen one fight, you’ve seen ‘em all.

Another reason I presented Steven U’s lacking action is because tts not just about fists flying or weapons clashing, but the balance of emotion that goes with the foes putting their heart and soul into taking each other down. But, for most of the time, I don’t see SU’s fights present any real hook of seriousness, even if it wants me to, and most of them feel present for (basic) comedy. I feel less invested in who’s fighting, or why, than I am at how they’re getting beat up. Ironic, being a show that’s all about being open with its “serious” emotions. Combined with its lackluster animation, and they don’t add much contrast towards an otherwise easy going series. Ex., take this highlight:

This here is honestly the most funniest a fight scene of theirs can get (mostly ‘cuz Peri deserved that), but after seeing the pretty slow animation, it can lose its luster no matter how deserving it may seem. Now notice this whopping scene, from the anime One Punch Man, below.

You can know nothing about One Punch Man, who these characters really are, but you can tell from these 5 seconds alone that when a fight happens, there’s a fast, over the top sense of comedy that comes with the brutal nature of a man that can apparently KO anybody in one swing, ironic and even more comedic with said one hit wonder being the most emotionless looking character on the show.

Seriously, that’s his face for almost the whole series

Now I know what you’re thinking, “But Monkey Network, it’s mostly a slice of life cartoon. The action scenes aren’t that prominent in the series as you might think and hope.” And I’d say fair point except for the fact that Friendship is Magic is also a slice of life cartoon that only has a few real action scenes under its belt, and this particular one is the best fucking thing I’ll ever see.

AGAIN, you can know nothing about the series as a whole, or this episode in general, but this fight alone perfectly captures the game Steven Universe has never really utilized since its early days. It has some seriousness with its escalating over the top attacks, the pace never feels constant, and even though they’re evenly matched, the things they do look fucking cool. The only downside is that since the show has puppet flash animation, it does looks limited, but even then they made the most of it. Steven Universe is hand drawn, so with all due respect, they have no fucking excuse. Their fight scenes amount to stay the course animation with glimpses of impact and a flashy style to avoid it from being pod racing levels of BORING. I’ve seen fan animations that would give this show a run for its money.

The Fandom provides more than the actual show

Even before Garnet’s fight with Jasper, Steven Universe’s action sequences was a sweet chunk of what made the show investing to watch, and looking at back at it, I was a bit too invested in something that wasn’t that invested in itself. Again, I know it can’t stack up to the God tier works that the anime world’s made for itself, but compared to other action present cartoons (Voltron, Star vs. the Forces of Evil, Avatar, The Powerpuff GirlsMLP, OK KO, any shonen anime), I think maybe they could/should git a little gooder in providing actual fights, not sparring matches. That, and if Sugar Honey Ice Tea and her crewniverse can put such effort into the facial expressions, they can make the fights more expressive too. Just saying. Computer, a nice way to end this, please.
