best person in the world award!

Some of the most talented women in comics, on Tumblr and beyond, are joining us for a special Women’s History Month Issue Time.

Maytal Gilboa is the founder and CEO of Emet Comics, a publishing company focused on empowering female comic book creators. In 2016 Emet Comics acquired Fresh Romance, a romance comic anthology from publisher Rosy Press.  Fresh Romance Volume 2 is currently in production and being crowdfunded through Kickstarter.  Prior to starting her publishing company, Maytal spent 4 years working as an executive at animation house, ReelFX Creative Studios, where she worked on films such as The Book of Life, and Freebirds.  Emet’s latest webcomic is Zana.

Sally Jane Thompson is an artist and writer whose work includes comics from Oni, Dark Horse, Image, Oxford University Press, The Phoenix and more, as well as live art, sketch reportage and illustration. She drew The Ruby Equation (with Sarah Kuhn, Savanna Ganucheau and Steve Wands) for Fresh Romance Vol 1, and is returning to the series to both write and draw Under the Oak Trees.

Born and raised in Chicago, Ashley A. Woods is an illustrator who got her start through self-publishing her action-fantasy comic series, “Millennia War”. January 2015, she met Amandla Stenberg and Stranger Comics at a convention; six months later, she began working on “NIOBE: She Is Life” which went on to sell tens of thousands of copies and inspired many cosplays.

Afua Richardson [ pronounced Ah FOO wah ] is an award winning American Comic-book illustrator best known for her work on Marvel’s Black Panther World of Wakanda. Some of her other works include Wildstorm, Attack on Titan, X-men 92, Captain Marvel, All Star Batman to name a few. Afua is also a musician, voice actor, activist and mentor. As a recipient of the Nina Simone award, she is aptly called a Jane of All trades.

Suzana Harcum and Owen White of the webcomic Tripping Over You are a two-person comics team currently based in Arizona. They are a married lesbian couple who once flirted with each other by creating characters and drawing together, and continue to make LGBTQ positive comics today for the love of writing stories together.

Our panelists will start responding on Monday 27 March

Acceptance Speech

Summary: (Modern!AU) In which Bucky uses his time on stage at the Oscars to let the world in on a secret he’s been keeping for more than two years.

Pairing: Bucky x Reader

Word Count: 2,217

A/N: Happiest of happy birthdays to my twin, @imaginingbucky . You are a queen and I adore you with every single ounce of my being. I know how much you love award shows, so I hope you enjoy this too.

Bucky feels like a nervous teenager as he sits in the backseat of a stretch limousine, waiting to arrive at his destination. His hands are clammy, his heart is beating too quickly and he can’t stop tapping his foot on the floor. After six years in the acting business, he shouldn’t feel this way. He’s attended more than his fair share of award shows to know all kinds of techniques to keep any concerns at bay. Yet here he is trying his hardest not to hyperventilate and hold his water bottle without spilling it all over his expensive suit. He’d never hear the end of it from his stylist if he did.

“Looking forward to the show tonight?” Vision asks, momentarily catching Bucky’s gaze in the rear view mirror.

Bucky pulls at the collar of his shirt before shifting slightly. Usually this backseat offers him the comfort he needs, no matter how he’s feeling. Today he might as well be sitting on rocks. “Yeah.”

“You don’t sound it,” Viz observes, as he makes a right turn down a side street. He’s an expert at getting you where you need to go while also avoiding all of the LA traffic. “Is it because you’re up for ‘Best Actor in a Leading Role’?”

Running Out Of Time

pairing: Lin x reader

warnings: ANGST

requests: “Anonymous asked: because I’m a literary masochist (apparently), pretty pretty please may I have just all kinds of Lin angst? Ruin me with your words” (i didn’t write this for the request specifically, because i have another fic in the works that’s angst as well which i wrote for the request)

summary: Nine years of being married to Lin, and each of them was a blessing. (idk how to summarize it, just stay for the storyline please)

Okay wow this fic really took a lot out of me. Thank you to @sunshinemiranda for the advice and for generally being amazing! This was somehow inspired by What I’m Proudest Of by @ourforgottenboleros, who also inspires me daily. I don’t know how to feel about this fic. Enjoy!

words: 4050 lmao oops

Lin paused the episode of Gilmore Girls and turned to you.

“Remember how our first conversation was about how boring parents were?”

“We were 4, though, so that’s perfectly acceptable.”

“Remember when you avoided me all through primary school?”

“That was because my friends wouldn’t stop singing ‘K-I-S-S-I-N-G’ whenever you talked to me!”

“Like I would’ve kissed you then, girls had cooties.”

“That wasn’t what you said in high school at that party.”

“God, shut up. I was drunk, we were separated in middle school, and that was the first time I saw you in a dress, okay?”

“Funny how we became best friends, though. Our friendship prevailed through the violent road of high school, college and after college.”

“Funny how we had such faith in platonic sleepovers and we really believed it when we said ‘Oh, we’re just friends.’”

“Funny how I told myself I wouldn’t marry you because my mom thought you were the perfect guy.”

“Funny how I’m getting married to my best friend and nothing has ever felt this right.”

“That, I can agree with.”

Dame Julie Elizabeth Andrews, is an English film and stage actress, and an operatic singer, who was born in Surrey, England. She was the original singer for the stage musicals of The King and I, My Fair Lady, and Mary Poppins.

In 1957 she became the 1st person to play Cinderella on-screen. She made her feature film debut in Mary Poppins (1964), for which she won the Academy Award for Best Actress. She later married Hollywood writer Blake Edwards.

She had the lead role in the blockbuster film The Sound of Music, an when Adjusted for inflation, this is the third-highest grossing film of all time.

She acted in other big films an was directed by Alfred Hitchcock, making her the most successful film star in the world in the 1960s. In 2000, she was made a Dame by Queen Elizabeth II for services to the performing arts.

In the 21st century her film career still continued, with the successes of The Princess Diaries and its sequel, plus the animated-films of Shrek (2004–2010), and Despicable Me (2010), for which she provided her ladylike voice.

In addition to her Oscar Award, she has won 5 Golden Globes, 3 Grammys, 2 Emmys, and a great many other awards that are too many to list here !

ENTP and INTJ. These two are…crazy. It’s not uncommon for them to hate each other on the first encounter, since they’ll likely end up fighting once they start talking, but over time the “magnetism” can be too strong to resist. They have a similar view of the world, both think that most people are stupid (I dare an NT reading this to disagree), and are very, very nerdy people. They very rarely get bored of the other, since the whole Ne-Ni, Ti-Te thing can be incredibly intriguing and refreshing (do you hear that personal bias coming through??) This is the pair that you see in the grocery store arguing over whether rice or corn would be the best staple food to have during the apocalypse, and the pair that, while watching an award-winning movie, is commenting to each other how ridiculously historically inaccurate the setting is (while annoying the people around them (*cough* SF types) too, of course)). They can be brutally honest with one another and share their thoughts on things openly, knowing their partner will listen and respond with a question or criticism. However, with no F in either one of their types, it may be hard for them to express their feelings or understand the feelings of the other. Because of this, the ENTP x INTJ pairing is best between these two if they’re both mature and have developed their feeling function, and/or have learned how to pick up on their partner’s subtle cues that mean the feelings are still there. All in all, it’s a great pairing, but work has to be done to make sure that their arguing doesn’t go too far, and that their feelings are expressed from time to time.

The description of a ‘Mary-Sue’ is a character (usually female) who has no flaws and has a perfect life. Now. Let’s see what Riri is in canon:

Rarely had any friends

Compulsive and stubborn

Lost her best friend and stepfather on the same day

Suffers depression and PTSD from the shooting.

Was not born wealthy, so she had to find cheap parts (normally stolen) to build things.

So, because Riri is intelligent and she is REWARDED for being intelligent, that makes her a Mary-Sue? Then you might as well hate every person in the world who got awards, degrees, and decent jobs in real life.

Just say you hate black girls and go.

Why I love Bastille

I would just like to express once again how much I appreciate Bastille as human beings and as a band. Their talent and hard work put into their music alongside their humble personalities just combine together perfectly to make a lovable band that not only myself adores, but the millions of other people around the world and I can not express my love for them enough. They deserve every award they are nominated for, and even if they don’t win it they are still considered to be the best band to me and that’s all that matters.

Ski Jumping Awards - Germany

1. Athlete of the season (male): Andreas Wellinger. After not that good first part of the season his form exploded in Wisła. From then he was alomst in every competition on podium. He beat his personal best. He has 3 medals from lahti (1 gold, 2 silvers). And he’s just 22 years old!

2. Athlete of the season (female): Carina Vogt. She may not be the best in th world cup, but at the most important events of the season she always do her best. In this season this means two gold medals.

3. Team of the season: Markus Eisenbichler, Stephan Leyhe, Richard Freitag, Andreas Wellinger. This team was on every place of the podium. This team won in Zakopane. This team proved that Germany is strong enough to win a competition without Severin.

4. Top newcomer/breakthrough: Markus Eisenbichler. From the first competition he was showing that he’s strong. He achived his first podium ever in Lillehammer. He holds the record of Germany (248 meters, Planica) and he’s very important to the team, but most important he won gold and bronze medals in Lahti.

5. Most impressive win of the season: Severin Freund, Kuusamo. His jumps were perfect and long. It was a great pleasure to watch him then. This competition showed everyone that Severin would’ve been higher in the overall classification if it weren’t for his fall.

6. Best competition: Zakopane, individual. This competition was a rollercoaster. Andi and Richi on the podium, Markus right behind. Most points from any competition by teem Germany (229)

7. Best podium: Lahti, individual normal hill. Both Andi and Markus on the podium on the most important even of this winter. Could it have been better?

8. Best jump: Markus Eisenbichler, 248 m, Planica. National record. Impressive jump with good landing.

9. Most touching moment: Andreas Wellinger losing in Raw Air. It may not be a happy moment but it deserves this palce. Disapointed Andi is something I will never forget. Fortunately he didn’t give up and in Planica he fought like he used to earlier.

10. OTP of the season: Andreas Wellinger and Markus Eisenbichler/Stephan Lehye. Andi is just to cute for having only one ship mentioned. Wellenbichler is #podium squad goals; Lellinger is just #cuteness overload.

11. Crush of the season: Andreas Wellinger. Duh. It was obvious choice, but for me it was the only right choice. I mean, look at him:

Ski Jumping Awards:

fanon kon: would receive the supportive boyfriend of the year award but hes too humble and probably gives it to tim instead with a speech about how tim is the best boyfriend in the world and hes lucky to have him, with zero dirty jokes or quips during the entire thing. (whats a personality?)

canon kon: would be given the supportive boyfriend of the year award as a joke, but puts it in a trophy case. when tim complains about kons awful sense of humor and/or complains about kon telling him to take it easy, kon points to it and says “sorry babe i cant hear you over the sound of me being awesome”

So despite hating my job I sometimes like to find things to do which might be more work but amuse me enough that it makes it worth it.

We got an email today saying we can win an award for having the best projection area in the world (from a certain large projection company i won’t name) and I kind of can’t resist entering it. It’ll be a project, but i just find the idea of putting so much effort into something so silly really amusing.

Plus the prize is three and a half grand and a little statue and while the money will get taken by work I’m nicking the statue and taking it to job interviews.

I’m not expecting to win, but I am hoping it will have the benefit of changing certain other things that I want changing for the better so… Fingers crossed?

Marilyn may not have ever picked up an Oscar, but her many talents were recognized in a variety of ways during her lifetime.

During her school days, Norma Jeane won a fountain pen for her essay “Dog, Man’s Best Friend.” She also received a certificate “in recognition of the personal service rendered by her as a member of the School Safety Committee” at the Sawtelle Boulevard School.

  • Working for the war effort at the Radio Plane Munitions Factory in 1945, Norma Jeane Dougherty, won an “E” certificate for excellence.
  • “Miss Press Club” 1948, from the Los Angeles Press Club
  • “Miss Cheesecake of the Year,” 1951 Stars and Stripes
  • “The Present All GIs Would Like To Find in Their Christmas Stocking,” 1951
  • “The Best Young Box Office Personality,” 1951 Henrietta Awards
  • “The Girl Most Likely to Thaw Alaska,” Soldiers posted to the Aleutians
  • “The Girls Most Wanted to Examine,” the 7th Division Medical Corps
  • “The Girls They Would Most Like to Intercept,” the All Weather Fighter Squadron 3, San Diego
  • “Cheesecake Queen of 1952,” Stars and Stripes
  • “Most Promising Female Newcomer,” 1952 Look Magazine Achievement Awards
  • “The Most Advertised Girl in the World,” February 1953, Advertising Association of the West
  • “Fastest Rising Star of 1952,” Photoplay Magazine Awards, March 9, 1953
  • “Best Young Box Office Personality,” Spring, 1953, Redbook magazine
  • “The Best Friend a Diamond Ever Had,” July 1953, the Jewelry Academy
  • “Female World Film Favorite 1953,” March 1954 Golden Globe Awards
  • “Best Actress,” March, 1954 Photoplay Magazine awards for Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and How To Marry A Millionaire
  • “The Thank-God Award: To Marilyn Monroe, who in a sweeping public service has made no movies this year,” 1958, Harvard Lampoon
  • Nomination for 1956 British Academy Award, “Best Foreign Actress,” for The Seven Year Itch
  • Nomination for 1958 British Academy Award, “Best Foreign Actress,” for The Prince and the Showgirl
  • “Best Foreign Actress of 1958,” 1959, David Di Donatello Prize (Italian equivalent of the Oscar), for The Prince and the Showgirl
  • “1959 Best Actress in a Comedy,” March 8, 1960 Golden Globe Awards, for Some Like It Hot
  • “Female World Film Favorite 1961,” March 1962 Golden Globe Awards

Some Like It Hot and All About Eve scored positions fourteen and sixteen respectively in the American Film Institute’s 1998 list of America’s 100 Greatest Movies. In June 1999 Marilyn came sixth in the American Film Institute’s list of the top twenty-five female stars of all time.

Since her death, Marilyn continues to top lists and polls of sex symbols. Sporadic suggestions that she should be awarded a posthumous Academy Award continue to fall on deaf ears.

The signs as a celebrity
  • Aries: everyone speculates whether they're high a lot, known for doing wild stuff at parties, admired, talented and very fast paced with their career
  • Taurus: looks beautiful even in candids, owns a shit ton of Range Rovers, probably gets scolded by their personal trainer a lot so they sack them, honestly flawless
  • Gemini: somehow in every selfie ever taken at an award show, active instagram account, knows how to appeal to the public eye
  • Cancer: everybody wanna be their lover so bad, they endorse every product in the universe because they want to be polite, always publicly thanking their fans every 3 seconds, probably has a tumblr account to check up on fans
  • Leo: always gives back to their fans, throws the craziest and best after parties, generally well loved and popular without even trying and has every celeb thirsting for them
  • Virgo: know how to keep themselves relevant, every fan encounter is usually pleasant, wins a ton of awards
  • Libra: friends with every celebrity in the world, always looks amazing when they're out in public, charitable, aware of social matters, always on twitter, probably has a crush on every celebrity they meet but covers it up
  • Scorpio: the one everyone thirsts for, maybe not a person of many words but when they do speak they always say something iconic, knows what their fans want to see, very successful
  • Sagittarius: no fucks were given ever, swears in interviews, lights up a joint on stage, downs some vodka before they go up and accept an award, aside from that tho, they're charitable, talented, and appreciate every one of their fans, very admirable
  • Capricorn: so cute even if they don't think so, always neat in appearance, always some nice shit going on w their hair, very very VERY good at their job, inspire and help their fans without even realising, enigmatic, probably disappear from time to time tho
  • Aquarius: very weird and very cool, always stand out even in a photo of them with bigger celebrities, on the front page for something that never even happened, probably always accused of dating some celeb they made eye contact with 3 months ago, extremely talented but not always aware of it
  • Pisces: slept on so damn much, honestly one of the most talented and original people out there, always coming up with ways on how they could use their fame to make a difference, underrated af
I’m shocked, not in a good way. People of color have always been here. Women have always been here. And for a genre that supposedly prides itself on, to quote Gene Roddenberry, infinite diversity in infinite combinations, and being more progressive than the rest of the world, though there are some that don’t think we should be, for a genre that prides itself on that to have never given the best-novel award to another black person, that’s just bizarre. It’s also indicative of a general tendency in literature. We tell ourselves we’re more progressive, we’re more futurist, we’re more forward thinking, and that’s just not true. If we don’t make the same effort at antiracist and anti-oppressive thought, we’re not going to be any better about it than anybody else, and I’m glad that this is changing.
—  N.K. Jemisin upon hearing that she is the first woman of colour and the first African-American writer to win the Hugo award for best novel.

I know for a fact that Liam enjoyed his afternoon at the Q awards. But, what a lot of people don’t realize is that he actually hackled every single person that moved that afternoon, not just rubbish.

It was like: ‘and the winner of the best live band in the world is Oasis.’ And he was sat there ‘That’s rubbish, ru- oh that’s us’, you know.

[He] even hackled me on the way up, he was going ‘you’re rubbish you can’t even play the guitar’, you know.
So it’s like, he sort of didn’t discriminate.

—  Noel Gallagher on Liam Gallagher at the Q Awards (2000)

Two of my photos from tonight’s (December 7, 2016) red carpet at the Make-a-Wish Foundation 4th Annual Wishing Well Gala, honoring Robert Downey Jr. with the Shining Star Award for his many contributions as a wish-granting hero.  Thank you to Make-a-Wish of Greater Los Angeles for the carpet credentials and invitation to cover the gala - and permission to share photos on Tumblr.

“Over the years, Robert has granted dozens of wishes for children around the world, and has personally brought hope, strength and joy to Wish Kids and their families.  In addition, he has donated funds through his foundation, Random Act Funding,” providing resources to help make other children’s wishes come true,” reads the award citation. “One of today’s most popular actors, Robert is best known by Wish Kids for his role as Iron Man in the Iron Man and Avengers franchises, as well as his title role in the Sherlock Holmes franchise. Superheroes are of special importance to Wish Kids, as they provide escape from difficult medical treatments and embody the power that kids need to fight and stay strong.

“Among the many memorable wishes Robert has granted include: helping nine-year-old Domenic, who has cystic fibrosis, fulfill his wish to be a superhero; surprising seven-year-old Alex, who was born missing most of his right arm, by presenting him with a specially made replica of Iron Man’s famous arm; and welcoming 17-year-old Cameron, an enthusiastic Avengers fan, to spend the day with him during production on the set.”

Of course he did.

Congratulations, Robert!!!
