best goal keeper in the world ~

anonymous asked:

Who is 'Kop'?

You mean THE Kop?  THE Haley Kopmeyer?

Well lemme just tell you a lil’ about this Michigan Native!

Born and raised in Troy, Michigan. Her parents signed her up as a kid to Rec, went to 5 tryouts but didn’t make a team until one needed a back-up.  Eventually became a starter and from then out performed for her team. In high school, she was named to the all-state first team, the all-district first team, the all-conference first team, and all-region first team. She then attended the University of Michigan! Go Blue!

She had a terrific career at Michigan. During her best season, which was her 1st after a season ending injury her freshman year, Kopmeyer led the Big Ten in saves (56), save percentage (.862) and saves-per-game (5.60) during conference play while topping the conference in overall save percentage (.848) and sharing the lead in saves (95). She played in 16 games, making 15 starts and set the school rookie record for shutouts with six.  She was awarded the University of Michigan Athletic Academic Achievement Award for the second year running and earned Academic All-Big Ten honors.

After 4 incredible seasons, this Michigan product, to her surprise, was drafted 31st overall by the Seattle Reign in 2013. Kopmeyer didn’t believe she’d even be drafted and thus already had plans working somewhere else in marketing. She even watched the 2013 NWSL draft until the 29th pick and stopped there and went to work bc she thought she wasn’t going to be drafted only to get a call from her father to which she started bawling.

Unfortunately, she was released from the team due to league roster constraints; however she was re-signed by the team for the 2014 season to back up Hope Solo.

In 2014, as back up to Hope, Kopmeyer believed it was a year she and Hope had began their relationship which was ‘massive’ , in her own words, in the sense that she had the opportunity to grow and learn from the best goal keeper in the world. She finally had someone who believed in her and thus from there on out kept improving as a GK.

On her first ever start in 2014, something only our Kop would do, she went to the wrong goal and so ran the entire field to get to the right one.

However, she did keep a clean sheet and the unbeaten streak while bringing the club to its fifth shutout in twelve games. Not to mention, some really good saves

cr: here

Kopmeyer has been the back up since 2014 but in the years 2015-17, she’s taken a bigger role as Hope is in rehab now and taken a break from football. She is now the No.1 and has been putting on stellar performances for the Reign.

From being rejected as a kid in rec games, to starting in the wrong goal as a professional to being Player of the Week and now Seattle Reign’s No.1, Haley Kopmeyer is a Seattle Reign FC Original and forever a gem to our team.

This has been a Haley Kopmeyer Appreciation Post. <3.

I’ve been thinking about Hope a lot recently. I don’t care what you think about her personality, I don’t care if you think that she’s overrated. You have to admit that she’s done SO much for USSF. There are thousands of fans, and super fans, that at one point weren’t fans. They probably had heard of a few of the ‘99ers and Hope Solo. She is the best goal keeper in the world and has been for almost TWO decades. She pushed women’s soccer to get better GLOBALLY (and domestically) just by being so talented. She gave her life for 17 years to the federation. She got beat up doing it, with a laundry list of injuries, and of course you might argue that all professional athletes take a beating- but not all professional athletes make comebacks as well or as quickly as Hope did. And you can argue that she did all of this because she loves soccer and she loves goalkeeping. But that doesn’t mean that she shouldn’t get credit for all of the work she put in and all of the time she dedicated. Not to mention that she’s helped grow the game from inside of USSF and the NWSL, by helping train other keepers (literally and also just leading by example). It’s complete bullshit that they’re firing her now, saying that it’s been a build up of all of her scandals, when either: a) those scandals were dealt with by USSF b) those scandals were ignored and Hope was supported by USSF c) some of those scandals were not directly a result of Hope’s actions d) other players (Abby…99ers calling another team B*****S) have done things but their actions were swept under the rug e) whether or not USSF likes it, those scandals drew more attention to women’s soccer. Just saying Hope deserves better and i hope she’s able to live the rest of her life in peace and enjoy it because USSF has been messing with her for so long that she deserves it

Some of the things people said of Neymar through his career:

He only scores at Paulistao (state championship). He will never score at brasileirao (brazilian league)”. “He’s never gonna make it to the seleção”. “He only scores against small teams. He never scores against big teams or important games.“He’s overpriced and overrated”. “He and Messi will never get along. You can’t have two stars in one team. Ego will get them.

 Neymar stats:

  • 23 years old. Best brazilian in activity in europe.
  •  Best young talent in the world.
  •  Main star of the brazilian national team and holds the armband.
  • Neymar is the ONLY active player to have scored vs the last 4 WC winning keepers: Marcos, Buffon, Casillas, Neuer.
  •  Surpassing Ganço (Santos) Messi is now the one who gave him more assists (13).
  • Is part of the most effective trio of the season ( 115 goals).
  •  Most Barcelona goals in a season, not counting Messi: Neymar 37 (2014/15) - Rivaldo 36 (2000/01) - Eto'o 36 (2008/09). With 37 goals, Neymar is Barcelona’s best 2nd top goalscorer ever.
  •  Neymar is the 2nd player in HISTORY to score in both legs of the UCL QF and SF in a single season.
  •  Neymar Jr has scored in seven consecutive matches, and is the first FCB player to do so since Messi in 2010/11.
  •  Messi and Neymar have become the first duo from the same club to score at least nine goals each in a single edition of the Champions League.
  •  Neymar with Barça’s shirt: 89 official games. 52 goals. 18 assists. Again Just 23 years old.
If Casillas and Buffon weren't good enough, what makes Neuer?

Gianluigi Buffon:

Best Seasons:

  • 2007-2008 Season: 34 games, 94 saves (save per game ratio of 2.7) 16 clean sheets
  • 2013-2014: 33 games played, 86 goals saved (saves per game ratio of 2.6) 18 clean sheets

Iker Casillas:

Best season:

  • 2007-2008 Season: 36 games, 128 saves, (save per game ratio of 3.6) 14 clean sheets

Manuel Neuer

Best Season

  • 2013/14 Season: 31 games, 72 saves, (save per game ratio of 2.3) 15 clean sheets
  • They have all won the world cup
  • Gigi Buffon has 4 IFFHS Goalkeeper of the year, goal keeper of the decade, goalkeeper of the past 25 years,
  • Iker Casillas has 5 IFFHS Goalkeeper of the year, and every possible team award

Neither Iker Casillas nor Gianluigi Buffon ever won the Ballon D’Or, despite both being named the greatest goalkeepers of their time. So please explain to me why Manuel Neuer deserves to?

It´s been almost 6 months since Hope was suspended and USWNT still doesn’t have a “replacement”, because both of the candidates are the extreme between two different styles. This show how much of important part of team Hope was. With her on the goal, the back line knew they were safe, because Hope is the best goalkeeper in the world, she is on the same level of legendary keepers like Edwin Van Der Sa, Claudio Taffarel, Rogerio Ceni, Gianluigi Buffon, Petr Cech, Oliver Kahn and Manuel Neuer. I am pretty sure that Jill might bring her back if things remains like this.

some people say that if Neymar played, the result could’ve been different

If you KNOW football,if you watch matches, you must know that This sport? is about working as a TEAM,it does not matter if You have Neymar or Messi or Ronaldo, one player could never make a diiference against 11 others.Germany won becuase they play as a TEAM,you feel their connection, you can see how WELL they understand each other, they play in a very very smart way. They have NOTHING wrong in their attack, even their defence is SERIOUSLY amazing : They take the ball from between your feet,no matter who YOU ARE.Even their goal keeper is good with his feet,he PLAYS ball very well and he’s very confident,he makes players inconfident !

Germany won,and they deserved it,a national team like that is a blessing,it’s the best team you could ever ask for.

Canada fucking won the Group of Death

Before today, Canada had never beaten Germany. Canada had never even tied Germany before. In 12 games and over thirty years, Canada has suffered 12 losses at the hand of the Germans.

That all changed today.

Canada beat Germany 2-1. They didn’t tie. They didn’t lie down. They fought against a stalwart German defense and despite a PK goal from Germany in the first half, the girls bounced back and Melissa Tancredi scored two incredible goals to bring her country it’s first ever victory against the European Champions.

Before this tournament, no one was giving Canada a chance. Everyone was saying, “Don’t sleep on Australia”, and “Wow, what a group of death. It’s a shame Canada will come third”. And yet here they are.

Canada fucking won the group of death.
This all coming a year after a rough performance at the 2015 Women’s World Cup.
This all coming after one of the best goalkeepers to ever play the game, Erin McLeod, suffered a torn ACL and the untested Stephanie Labbe was forced to become the starting keeper.
This all coming after people were calling Christine Sinclair washed up and past her prime.
This all coming after everyone wrote Canada off, except the 11 players on the pitch.

I’m so proud of this team. I can honestly say that this team is playing the best soccer I’ve ever seen them play in the past four years. They are peaking at exactly the right time. Yes, the next opponent is France and that is a tough task. But, I think that this group of girls is feeling more confident than they have ever felt. They are beating teams that no other Canadians have ever beaten before.

Before today, Canada had never beaten Germany. They beat Germany
Before today, Canada beat France. They can sure as hell do it again.

People are getting pretty mad about my post saying I believe Erin McLeod is the number 1 goal keeper in womens football…. here’s the thing, she doesnt have the statistics to match Hope Solo or Nadine Angerer because those two are known for having the best defensive lines in the world. The dash (and canada but lets not talk about that, too soon) back line has been broken and left Erin in 1v1 or even 2/3v1 situations and she has consistently come through with massive saves that have kept this team alive. She is also much more of an influential player on and off the field than the likes of Solo or Angerer. As a keeper, you can only be as strong as your backline and Erin has absolutely crushed anyone expectations. And she’s only getting better.

(But hey this is just my opinion)

A day in Valdebebas with James Rodriguez by El Mundo magazine.

In the physical recovery room of Valdebebas sounds a song loud. A Flamenco called “El Barrio”. James Rodriguez listen the song moving his chin a little like filling himself with the new rhythm.  12:30 pm and they have just completed the recovery session Mr Ancelotti has prepared, soft work and massages in the legs while everyone slightly watched the match between Athletic and Sevilla, Athletic is winning and that result tied with their victory against Granada the saturday and the defeat of Barcelona puts them in the top of La Liga. Its hard to hide the atmosphere of happiness in that room. The players leaves the locker room while joking around, mostly Sergio Ramos who likes to mess around with everyone.

James, according to the employees of Valdebebas it’s part of the ones that takes the longer to finish their massages and get ready “A calm boy, for everything” says his uncle Alberto who is currently staying with him in Madrid. Rodriguez poses for DXT hours after the game against Granada, his first goal in Los Carmenes stadium was something memorable, his teammates asked him if he shoot the ball with intention or without thinking I shoot it well, I saw the goal keeper was a little off his line” summed up about the first one and when he got asked about the second “Things are working out well” said recognizing the good form of the whole team. Sergio Ramos is still playing his Flamenco music in the dressing room, but in the field this comes out of Modric, Isco, Kroos and James.

“I have another interview James. Imagine if I was you, ¡I couldn’t handle it!” screams Chicharito Hernandez when they cross each other in a loud morning of sunday at Valdebebas. Walking through the hall and entry there can be seen Keylor Navas relatives waiting for the goal keeper. James learned fast the names of the whole staff working there and across the windows of the coach office there is Jesé Rodriguez in the south field, sprinting and pulling hard on goal,  about to finally leave the last phase of his recovery.  An employee carries a huge framed photography of Cristiano Ronaldo celebrating his first goal in Anfield last week, the star wants it for his museum in Madeira. “He is the best in the world, I’m impressed by the way he works” says the Colombian. Lastly when asked about James “Its a good boy, very serious” says the people from the club, surprised with the professionalism of a player with only 23 years that take good care of every aspect of his profession.

[T/N] More pictures from the photoshoot here.

Ozil is so freaking selfless. It might not have been his best game but the fact that he was in a 1v1 situation with the keeper and chose to pass to Muller shows how much of a team player he is, and even got an amazing goal out of the rebound off of Muller’s attempt.

Basically, Durm and Ozil have managed to turn me into a Germany fangirl.

what she says: The booing doesnt bother me, I’m glad they had fun.

what she means: The booing FUELS MY RAGE and makes me play better. The joke’s on you Brazil! You don’t know me! I AM THE BEST GOAL KEEPER IN THE WORLD, WHAT IS YO ASS? I HAVE OVER 100 INTERNATIONAL SHUT OUTS! WHAT. IS. YO. ASS???

hereitgo  asked:

Why should Ellis put in harris?

Not only is Ashlyn Harris an amazing goalkeeper, but she’s the #2 in the USWNT right now. Let’s not put in the NWSL into the equation because ultimately it IS a different game.

Let’s take into account Hope Solo’s record right now, her future for Rio is uncertain and while the chances of her not actually playing are decreasing as time goes by there are 2 über qualified goalkeepers in Ashlyn Harris and Alyssa Naeher.

Both of them combined have no more than 10 caps I think?? And how many does Hope have? To me that screams experience. Exprience that those 2 qualified keepers do not have. It’s games like these where we should be testing out what we have and seeing what works and what doesn’t.

This isn’t hate against Hope and favouritism on Ashlyn, because as a lover of the sport I KNOW who the best in the world is, and yes in games of utmost importance I would not be complaining if Solo was on goal. But what bothers me is that when we have to test these keepers in situations that ARE important and then they don’t deliever, people tend to blame them. But how can we expect the best performances out of them when our own coach doesnt even believe in their ability?
