Can you tell me some about tarot cards? Im getting the golden thread deck next week. Im highly interested in it, but know very little.

Hello Dearie!

Is there anything in particular you want to know? I’ll put some general info down but you’re welcome to send me a message with further questions if I don’t answer them for you! I wasn’t sure if you were looking into the history of tarot cards or ‘ohmygodihavethisthingwhatdoidowiththething???” So I kinda answered both to the best of my ability.

History of Tarot (ish)

-Tarot goes back as far as the 15th century when it was just a card game. It wasn’t until the 18th  century that it started being used for divination (Wikipedia is my source because as much as I love you all, I’m too lazy to do real research)

-Traditional Decks: A good beginner deck is the Rider Waite Deck. It has the most ‘universal’ imagery that a lot of decks are based off of. A  traditional deck is made up of the Major and Minor Arcana. The Major Arcana has 22 cards starting with the Fool and ending with the World. Major Arcana cards usually represent major life events or changes. The Minor Arcana is Made up of 4 Suits (Wands, Pentacles (sometimes called coins), Cups, Swords). Each Suit has ten numbered cards (Ace-Ten) and four Court or Face cards (Knight, Page, Queen, King), and usually has an element or area of your life related to it. Court cards can often represent an important person in your life.

-Non Traditional Decks: There are so many tarot decks out there, not all of them will follow the imagery or ideas of the Rider Waite deck. They’ll often come with a guidebook that helps you understand their imagery and whatnot.

“I have this Deck. What do I do with it?”

-Start by taking a deep breath and remembering that tarot is meant to be fun. Sure, we’ll get scary and deep and meaningful readings, but ultimately we’re here to have fun and bond with our decks. Tarot is meant to guide us, not be set in stone. They tell us what could/ will happen if we stay on the current path we’re on.

-Get to know your deck and bond with it. Each deck has a different personality.  There are several ‘deck interview’ spreads you can do. I personally like this one and this one. Doing some sort of interview will help you learn the limits and strengths of your deck. You can also pull a card a day, spend time really analyzing it, the imagery, the meaning, what it makes you think of or feel. Bond with your deck by shuffling it absentmindedly while watching TV or listening to music. Sleep with it under your pillow, or take it in your bag when you run errands. Let it get to know you and your energy.

-Find your reading style: How do you shuffle? For how long while asking your question? Do you cut the deck or pull the cards straight from the top? Each deck has its own preference so make sure you take that in mind as well, but do what feels most comfortable for you

Okay, now you’re ready for a reading.

-Start by picking a question. Open ended is usually best. Shuffle the cards while thinking of your question. When you’re ready, pull as many cards as you need (this can be for a specific spread or just pulling a certain number of cards. I usually do 3 or 5).

-Decide if you’re reading reversals or not (I’ll get to that soon). take a look at each of the cards individually, think about what they mean to you. Take into consideration how they interact. Each card has its own meanings, but combined with the cards next to it can be even more important. Try to look at the bigger picture as well as the details

-Don’t be afraid to be critical. There are times, rare times, where the cards just don’t work. None of the cards make sense together or in your life. Sometimes this is because what they’re talking about hasn’t happened yet, but sometimes you just have a bad spread, it happens. Shake it off and reshuffle if that’s the case.

Tips, Tricks, Random things

-Reversals: Reversals are when you draw the card and its upside down. There are lots of ways to interpret reversals. Some read them as the opposite of the original meaning of the card, some read them as the person is experiencing a block in the area of their life the card appeals to. Others see it as excess. Some people don’t read reversals at all. This can be a personal preference or have something to do with the deck. My oracle deck doesn’t like reversed readings, so if a card in that deck is drawn upside down I just flip it right. With my shadowscapes deck I try to look at it intuitively before deciding if the reversal means anything at all.

-Jumper Cards: These are cards that literally jump or fall out of your deck as you’re shuffling. Some believe that these cards really need to be paid attention to. Sometimes you just did a really poor job shuffling. Just like with reversals, its up to you to decide what to do with them. I tend to put it aside and see how it fits with the rest of the spread before deciding if its important or not.

-Stalker cards: that one card you pull every time. Every. Time. For a while I was pulling the Emperor in every single spread I was doing for others. Ugh, it was torture. Stalker Cards will appear over and over until you get the meaning its trying to present to you. They’re important and should be paid attention to. @oceanwildatelier has this really cool idea of going through your deck each day, finding the card, and looking at the card on either side of it to get some deeper insight into what its trying to tell you.

-Spreads: you can use them if you want, but you don’t have to. There are several 3 card varieties, and tumblr is a great place to find all kinds of spreads for every situation. I like to use them sometimes, but most often I just pull three or five cards depending on how in depth of a message I want.

-Yes/No Questions: some people can do yes/no with tarot. I personally find it very difficult because my cards don’t give me consistent answers this way. The Easiest way to do yes/no with tarot is to ask your question and flip over the card. If its right side up, it’s a yes. If its reversed, its a no. You can also do this with three cards, two up or all up means yes, two down or all down means no.

-don’t be afraid to joke around with your deck. I call my cards sassy all the time because they are. I’ve spent several minutes shuffling and redrawing spreads because I didn’t want to hear what the cards had to say, just to get the same cards over and over. I called them sassy and rude each time. Like I said at the beginning of this post: the cards are meant to be fun, don’t get too stuck up in the process, find what works for you and only use them if its enjoyable for you.

Remember that tarot is meant to be fun, but it can hold a lot of meaning if you let it. If you pull a spread warning you of something big and scary to come, listen. Don’t let the fear consume you, but be alert. There is power in these little bits of card stock and ink, as weird as that is sometimes.

ummm… I don’t know if I have anything more to say for now… peeps feel free to add to this, or send me questions if there’s something more specific you wanna know about!

Hi there, my name is Josh and I’m from Western Canada. I’ve never done this before, but I would like to expand my worldview and find new friends who share my interests. I’m kind of aloof but if we click I’ll warm up to you over time. My best language is English, but I know a very small amount of German and an even smaller bit of French. If you know these languages well I would love for you to teach me more about them! (Also, if you are from Switzerland, I would love to learn about your country, I want to study abroad there in university!)
My passion is world history- I aspire to become a historian, and I want to learn as much as I can about the history of our world and its cultures- it does not matter what country. Right now, I am especially interested in military history. Acting is another thing I love, but I think I have a long way to go to act well. I love travelling a lot, too- if you gave me a chance to go on any trip, I would go in a heartbeat. I also like gaming, JJBA, watching classic movies and reading classic books (my favourite writers are Hemingway and Dostoevsky) My favourite music artists are Mac DeMarco and Parquet Courts, but I have a lot of different kinds of music in my playlist.
If you’re interested in any of these things, don’t hesitate to contact me! I’d prefer to start off with email or social media, but I wouldn’t mind snail mail eventually (I don’t have the best handwriting though!)

Preferences: 15-18 please. The rest doesn’t matter so long as we can have a good, open-minded conversation!

“Mom they said my dad is dead”

Through high school and college Kawhi worked at his dads 100% by-hand car wash in Compton California. The phone rings on the way home from a game as a senior in high school.

“Mom they said my dad is dead”

He thought,

“Is he really gone?”

“Is there a chance he could still be alive?”

“Is this the wrong person?”

The next night he burst into tears after a game in the arms of his mom.

Leonard says he still thinks about his dad everyday because “he still could be here” but he wants his dad “to be amazed at whats going on and how I have grown as a man in life.”

His right arm is a dedication to his father Mark Leonard (R.I.P. tattoo in the image above). The lessons of dedication taught by his father translated into his game on the court. He was titled “Mr. Basketball California” as a senior and went on to lead San Diego State University to its best season in college history.

Kawhi looked something like this when his teammate Tim Duncan was first drafted to the Spurs. On his own draft night (2011) he was selected15th pick in the first round to the Indiana Pacers.

This doesn’t look right does it?

5 minutes later he was traded to the San Antonio Spurs. According to the San Diego Union Tribune, he lived in a two-story home with his mom during his first 3 years in San Antonio.

All that matters to Kawhi is winning titles. After returning to San Diego in 2014 with the Spurs 5th Larry O’Brian trophy he didn’t even take it out of his condo.

“I don’t have time to do anything with it” he said, “I’m just a low-key guy. I’m just happy we won it. I don’t even care about the trophy. The title matters most.”

When asked why he doesn’t smile he says, “You might see it, If we win the championship”

All this humility and success deserves recognition. At 24 he is already an NBA Champion and the youngest Finals MVP (age 22) since Magic Johnson.

Who doesn’t like a good success story you know?

Share with the Kawhi fans out there.

Julia “Hurricane” Hawkins became the oldest female athlete to ever compete in the USA Track and Field Outdoors Masters Championships. Her 40.12-second, 100-meter dash shaved more than six seconds off the world record for women aged 100 or older.

Astonishingly, that wasn’t even a personal best. This month, at the National Senior Games in Birmingham, Ala., Hawkins ran the dash in 39.62 seconds. If either of those times get certified in December, she will become the official world-record holder.

And to think, she may have missed her shot at making track and field history if she opted to follow her original plans for the day.

“[I] missed my nap for this,” she said (via USATF) on Saturday at the event at Louisiana State University, not far from where Hawkins lives in Baton Rouge.

Ulala Serizawa (video game - Persona 2)

ULALA. Besides having one of the coolest character designs in the history of video gaming, Ulala is one of the most badass ladies as well. She has confidence issues and drinks fairly often but these issues are kind of refreshing to see – she’s not just “Maya’s sidekick/best friend” or “the chick who can punch the universe in the face” – she has her own quirks and traits. There are so many amazing ladies in the Persona series and so many of them are fleshed out so well. Also, the battle cry of “SO, WHO WANTS TO HAVE THEIR FACE SMASHED IN?” – is too awesome.

Juve vs FCB

Hello, Valverde! Please, don’t ruin our team and don’t let stupid Bartomeu sell our best players! I’m begging you.
What I love:
√ I could taste the desire of revenge from the 1st minute;
√ 14’ Vidal that was awesome but we missed that chance;
√ Ney, I will kill you if you leave. It will be your biggest mistake bish so DON’T. That was such a beautiful goal tbh;
√ the speed, ball touches, quick passes Ohhh I missed my team so much;
√ Neymar, I swear to the universe it feels like we never went on holidays and are playing in the finals. Pure joy;
√ Neymessi has unbelievable connection. The best in history hands down;
√ 44’ Leo wtf. That desire/hunger to play is palpable 👐
√ Buffon and Messi hug!!!
√ Jordi to Denis to Aleña goood;
√ over 82,000 people at the friendly FRIENDLY game 💸💸💸
√ I trust only Umtiti goodbye.
What I don’t:
~ we were so rude wtf;
~ 41’ DRAMA. That wasn’t necessary Ney. Let it go;
~ my commentator was talking about Neymar’s “possible” transfer during the whole game. I’m so tired, leave us alone pls we are already dying of anxiety. If psg pay 222 mils they will break the fair play rule and won’t play in UCL for a season. What’s the point?!
~ 55’ Suarez being Suarez I’m not even surprised;

Neymar 2+0
Messi 0+1
Alcacer 0+1

The true life story of a Dallas native once considered one of the city’s best basketball players in the late 1980’s. He attended Spruce High School from 1986 to 1989. He only played 3 years of high school and 3 years of college. He was the first ball player in the history of the Dr. Pepper Tournament in 1989 to lose the championship game and still be named MVP. He was named All-State and Honorable Mention All-American in the 1989. He went on to play college ball at the University of New Mexico, where he led the Lobos to their first Western Athletic Conference (WAC) and was named Tournament (MVP), and 1st team All -Conference. He later became the 24th Leading scorer in Lobo’s history in only 3 years of play. He became a free agent with the Los Angeles Lakers and was drafted 3rd round in the CBA. After leaving the CBA, he played in the United States Basketball League, and later overseas in Caracas, Venezuela. Then it all went bad. He made a drastic turn to the street life, where he fell into the bottomless pit of the underworld. Fallen. Never to get up. But he survived to tell his story. This is my story. “From The Court To The Streets.”
Sick of the Tifa hate?

Since her introduction, Tifa has received an extremely positive reaction from both critics and fans

In 2000 - GameSpot readers voted her as the fifth best female character in video games, with the site’s editors noting they agreed.

Here’s just a few about what was said about Tifa.

“A lot of people think that because she has a big chest means that she is just a sex object. Wrong. She is a complex and beautiful character whose willpower helps Cloud to overcome his enemies and finally lets her show her true feelings for him, after keeping them bottled up since childhood.” -Kenan Alpay

The strength of a lion and the heart of a dove. She can kick butt and assemble the pieces of the most fragmented mind, both at the same time. Says something about her, doesn’t it?” -Peter H.

“Tifa or Aeris? It was a tough call, but in the end I always thought Tifa was the best. Though insecure about herself at times, she could kick the hell out of any monster with her fantastic limit breaks, and she stood by Cloud until the end no matter what. And she’s truly the most ‘alive’ female character in any computer game I’ve ever played.” -Erling Hagen

She emotionally pushed the game along, providing many hints, and she was powerful.” -Sean Wheeler

Despite everything that has happened to her, Tifa was always the strong central link that kept Cloud going. With Sephiroth killing her father, that further made her determined to become strong to eventually face him and help defeat him. Before the destruction of Sector 7, she owned her own business (the bar), which isn’t an easy venture. She is an accomplished martial artist studying under Master Zangan. So if anyone ever says that Tifa is a weak character, they should really play Final Fantasy VII and realize just how strong she truly is.” -Galen Henderson

As tough as Ms. Croft, yet emotional like Aeris, Tifa is the perfect balance. She looks right at home punching out enemies or sitting on the water tower stargazing with Cloud. None of the other candidates has such a sweet blend of everything you could ever ask for in a female companion.” -Pascal Van Pul

Let’s move on

In 2001 - In 2001, The Beaumont Enterprise cited Tifa as an example of a strong female character in video games in the wake of Lara Croft’s introduction.

In 2004 -  Play featured Tifa in the first issue of their Girls of Gaming annual periodical, describing her as “the most adored female in recent history.”

In 2007- Tifa was named the eighth best character of all time in Dengeki PlayStation 's retrospective awards feature about the originalPlayStation, the third highest ranked character from Final Fantasy VII.

That same year, Tom’s Hardware listed her as one of the 50 greatest female characters in video game history, describing her as “one of the more richly drawn and intricate female characters around.”

In 2008 -UGOlisted her as one of the top “girls of gaming”, placing her at number five, and stating a preference for her over Aerith, adding “Tifa’s outfit is a marvel of understatement – but it’s her natural assets and unforgettable personality that earn her a spot on this list.”

That same year, Chip ranked her as the tenth top “girl of gaming”

In 2008 -  Joystiq named her their top pick out of 20 characters from the Final Fantasy franchise they wished to see in Square Enix’s crossover fighting game Dissidia Final Fantasy, describing her as one of the series’ “greatest heroines.”

 IGN listed Tifa as the 13th best Final Fantasy character of all time in 2008, describing her as an attempt by Square to “give Final Fantasycharacters real sex appeal,” and someone who “could take care of herself in a pinch”

 In a 2009 - IGN article focusing solely on Final Fantasy VII characters, Tifa placed fourth, with a comment that while her sex appeal contributes to her popularity, “Tifa helped drive a tradition of tough, independent RPG heroines.”

In 2009 -  IGN named Tifa one of the ten best heroines in gaming, describing her as “without a doubt, a legendary heroine of the Final Fantasy universe.

 In 2010 - a poll by Famitsu named her the 19th most popular video game character by Japanese audiences.

In 2010 - Mania Entertainment placed her tenth in the list of “video game women that kick ass,” stating that while subsequent games in the Final Fantasyseries introduced other memorable female characters, “Tifa is our first Final Fantasy girl and holds a special place in our hearts.”

 In 2013 - Complex ranked her as the 13th greatest heroine in video game history.

In 2013 -  In 2013, Gus Turner of Complex ranked Tifa as the 12th greatest Final Fantasy character of all time, stating that “next to Lara Croft and Samus, Tifa Lockhart stands out as one of gaming’s most independent and empowered females ever.”

Also with Final Fantasy Airborne Brigade.

Square Enix also held a survey for the game’s two year anniversary in Japan and asked players to vote on their favorite Final Fantasy heroine.

Living The Dream

This morning with my adult students we did everyday health problems and cures – acne, dandruff, headache, sore throat, etc.  All well and good.

But this being Korea, of course one of the problems was diarrhea.

Lo and behold, I got to hear a good 20 minutes of heated – heated! – debate on the best remedies for diarrhea.

I’ve decided to write an ESL textbook aimed at the South Korean market based solely on situations and interactions involving diarrhea.  At the doctor.  At the dentist. On a picnic.  At your child’s first birthday celebration.  At a baseball game.  Your great-grandmother’s traditional diarrhea cures.  King Sejong’s first list of diarrhea remedies.  What to do if you have diarrhea while visiting Dokdo Island.  Why Japanese and Chinese diarrhea cures are inferior to Korean ones.  Etc.

I shall be the richest ESL textbook writer in the history of the universe.

The End.

getting started

introductions: i’m alana, i’m nineteen, i’m in my third year of a history/spanish MA @ the university of glasgow. as the url suggests, i’m about to undertake my year abroad - although perhaps ‘dreaded’ isn’t the best adjective for it.

i’m definitely nervous about the next nine months or so; but that’s mainly because i’m still unsure of where exactly i’m going yet. i know that i’ll be working as an english language assistant in galicia, spain; but as for the specific details, i’m currently out of the loop. the application process via the british council started some months ago in january, so it’s been quite a long time already. some good news, however: i should know the specifics of my post within the next week. the silver lining is visible.

i’m excited to start documenting my time away, and to become more involved in the whole studyblr thing (even if that portmanteau is grossly cutesy, and probably to be used sparingly from now onwards).

Virginia Oldoini was born to minor nobles in Tuscany in 1837. When she was 17, they married her off to a guy 12 years older than her. But a year later her cousin decided that it would be a lot more convenient to his career and country if Virginia was available to have sex with someone else. Namely, Napoleon III.

See, at that time, what we now call Italy was a bunch of smaller countries, and Virginia’s cousin was part of the group that wanted them to unify. He took one look at his hot, young, close relative and realized the best plan was to get her to cheat on her husband with Napoleon and hope some political pillow talk could turn the tide. Because 19th-century Europe was apparently an alternate-universe Game Of Thrones, complete with a short guy and creepy family relationships. Virginia managed to become the emperor’s mistress for over a year, and shortly after it ended he sent troops to unite the peninsula.

you guys want to observe a bit about changes in style within th same franchise ? Or how plots/designs change depending on time period ?

three words : Sonic The Hedgehog.

This comic has been going on since 1992, before i was even born, and is still ongoing to this DAY. it is the longest running comic based off not just a video game, but a single franchise period. It has 279 issues to date unincluding spin-offs such as Sonic Universe, Sonic X, Knuckles the Echidna, etc.

But more to th point, how each one looks.  Th style varies HEAVILY.

Just….i’m sorry for making this so long but please check out th variance.

please look to these comics when studying cartoon history i think they’re actually really important in stylization, figuring out which is best, and not being afraid to change ! ((uhh also they’re really fucking cool i fuckign love sonic))

i see in the picture you drew of apollo and klavier one of the attorneys went to columbia. what other universities do you think athena or apollo attended?

Aw man, I’m so happy people noticed the law degrees! Here’s what I’m thinking. You all should send me asks if you agree or disagree.

+Apollo Justice - Columbia University

Since he was adopted, I imagine Apollo had a tough childhood. I think part of his strength and personality stems from having to work hard and prove himself all his life. The title of an “Ivy League” school would be gratifying for Apollo to strive for. Especially since his best friend was training to be an ASTRONAUT. And given his ability, history and personality, I don’t think it would have been far fetched for Apollo to have gotten a full ride.

I think Phoenix went to a good University, but nothing too prestigious. I don’t think he cares about the label, is inherently gifted, would prefer to save on tuition and stay in CA. Honestly, I’d pick a community college if it weren’t for the other people he met at school. In the game, it says he went to “Ivy University” for both art and law. UCLA has both these program. It’s the 3rd best law school in CA (17th in the US) and even has an Lit and med program for Dahlia and Swallow.

+Athena Cykes - University of Strathclyde, Glascow

Okay, for Athena, I specifically tried to find a school that specialized in combining psychology and law in Europe. Strathclyde popped right up. It’s located in Scotland (which I could definitely see Athena running around in). The school seemed focused on the betterment and helping of people, and the campus is very diverse. Plus, they seem to have great study abroad programs Athena would have loved to explore during her college years.
