best anime post of all time

So busy preparing for AX (find me in the artist alley at table K21), no time to draw Q_Q I’ll be starting up Fisheye Placebo and Knite again once I get back. All the models for season one of Knite is finally complete. Now my team is just tweaking the renders and figuring out the best work flow. I’ll post some teasers soon!

This quick doodle of Frey was just done by hand. I miss drawing.

Okay, but I wanted to say something important….

When you see fanart that isn’t that good, fanart that still needs improving or fanart that isn’t of really good quality, can you please take 1 second of your time to like their post and maybe if you are feeling generous leave a comment or reblog. The artists that are still starting are trying their best to improve. They like all other amazing and professional artists on any platform enjoy a series/anime/band/kpop group etc and are trying to share their love with all of the other fans and contribute to the fandom. But then it gets really frustrating to see that their art gets no recognition at all or very very little recognition after working for hours and hours on a piece of fanart that they thought would be really popular. Some of the art that gets little recognition isn’t even that bad, it just needs a little more work.

It breaks my heart to imagine how many people that could be amazing fan artists if they continued to work hard and improve have given up because they got discouraged after posting their art online.

It only takes you a couple of seconds to like a post, but I guarantee you that the artist will be extremely happy and motivated to keep working and improving until he/she becomes another brilliant fan artist.

Retirement

Hello everyone!

First, I want to say how grateful I am for having this opportunity to manage this blog and get to know a lot of the followers for the past 5 years! I’ve been able to learn so much about Japanese music and anime from fulfilling requests, and I have gotten pretty hooked on a lot of it over the years. I still can’t believe that a blog I started on a whim grew to be this big. It’s really something.

However, as I’ve grown older, I’ve found that I can’t dedicate quite as much of my free time to this blog anymore. The other mods and I have discussed this matter and we plan to retire the blog this summer. But don’t worry! Requests will remain open until the official closing date on Friday, June 30th.

As for the future of this blog, I plan on leaving it open as an archive without my main blog attached to it. This is in order for people to still enjoy the music that is posted without the fear of Tumblr slamming me and the mods for copyright and deleting our personal blogs. Hopefully this won’t happen, but you never know! I don’t have any plans or interest in leaving it to someone else to take care of the blog for me. I will probably still upload some seasonal anime music whenever I get the chance, but I won’t be accepting any requests after June.

I really hope you all understand and will wish us the best. I’ve had a really great time running musicinanime all these years. It’s going to be different for me to not manage it daily, but I hope that this change will be good for me.

As thanks for all of you who have followed us, whether you are longtime listeners or new to the blog, I’d like to run a special giveaway to commemorate our retirement! I’m still working out the details as far as prizes go, but I will make a separate post for it sometime this week, so look forward to it!

I appreciate you all for supporting this blog for the past 5 years. It’s been a real pleasure!

10 Reasons To Watch Gintama

1. Character designs—go google Sakata Gintoki. Or Hijikata Toshirou. Or Okita Sougo. Or Kamui. Or Katsura Kotarou. Or Takasugi Shinsuke. Or Kagura. Or Tsukuyo. Or Kyuubei. Or any Gintama character for that matter.

2. It makes you laugh. And by laugh I mean desperately muffling your face in a pillow with tears streaming from your eyes at 2:00 a.m. because you’re watching Gintama’s Owee or Vacation Arc while everyone else is asleep.

3. It makes you cry. And by cry I mean desperately muffling your face in a pillow with tears streaming from your eyes at 2:00 a.m. because you’re watching Gintama’s Shinsengumi Crisis Arc or Beam Sword Style Arc while everyone else is asleep.

4. Characters and character relationships—tired of the same old Mary/Gary Stu? Watch this anime. Even a side character who only appears once or twice will be ingrained into your mind. All characters have multiple layers; there is no flat, boring character without depth. The relationships are solid, and the characters do not need to say “I love you” every 21 seconds to get the point across. Love is seen in their familiarity and actions.

5. It is a perfect blend of genres—want some sci-fi? Watch Gintama. Want some tragedy? Watch Gintama. Want some peak comradeship/shounen fighting? Watch Gintama. Want comedy? Watch Gintama. Want some historical Japan? Watch Gintama. Want samurai? Watch Gintama. Want action? Watch Gintama. Want slice of life? Watch Gintama. Basically just WATCH GINTAMA.

6. Soundtrack—so good. Go listen to any Gintama opening. The song will surely be stuck in your head.

7. It is unique and original. Tired of the same old shounen, with the underdog tween hero and the big dream, training montages, and unrealistically relentless determination? Gintama presents to you a fresh protagonist, Sakata Gintoki. If you can name another anime that has an arc based on a popularity poll then darn, you got me. If not, then GO WATCH GINTAMA.

8. There’s Elizabeth. That’s it. Just Elizabeth.

9. The stories are so beautifully told. In 3 episodes, it can convey the same messages and stories that another anime may take 20 episodes to tell. Are you busy? Can’t go on an anime binge? No worries. Just watch one of arc Gintama to pass your time. Maybe 2-8 episodes. Plus the backstories hurt.

10. Gintama blows everything out of the park. (You can trust me, as I’ve seen tons of anime but once I found Gintama it was like I found something I never knew I was looking for, as if this whole time I’ve just been watching anime in search of Gintama.) I can’t watch anything else anymore. It all seems mediocre compared to Gintama.

anonymous asked:

Hi! How are you? I saw the pictures of your previous trip to Japan. They are awesome. I plan to visit Kyoto this April and I would like to ask which Shinsengumi related places are worth the visit? Are there any places where I can buy Hakuouki related things? Last year I watched the whole Hakuouki anime series (all of the seasons, movies, specials) and I became a fan and I would like to visit the places which were mentioned in the anime. As you were there in April was it crowded? Best wishes, Éva

Thank you! I didn’t post nearly enough of them, honestly, I have so much more to talk about because the whole experience was just… completely surreal, but what is time?

There are books dedicated to touring Japan to visit significant sites relating to the Shinsengumi, including two Hakuouki ones (one of which JUST came out). Of course, the biggest issue is that this information is all in Japanese and that’s something you’re going to come up against if you want to visit these places. You definitely don’t have to understand Japanese (I’ve heard of people managing) but it honestly helps.

My personal trip started in Tokyo, then we went down to Kyoto, back up North to Aizu-Wakamatsu and then onto Hakodate. We really just focused on many of the big spots but there’s just so much to cover, two weeks was never going to be enough, especially as it was my friend’s first time in Japan too so we had other things to do.

As to the crowds, being hanami (cherry blossom viewing) season Tokyo and Kyoto were crowded, but I feel like that’s always a thing since it’s Japan, but the more you go off the beaten path, and the Shinsengumi sites kind of are off the beaten path, it’s not so bad. Aizu and Hakodate are definitely not as crowded, especially with foreign tourists. My friend and I were definitely standouts.

As far as being able to buy Hakuouki related goods, if it’s related to the Shinsengumi your chances of finding Hakuouki things to buy is high but it really depends on the location. I had the best luck in Kyoto, Aizu, and Hakodate since… they’re kind of big Shinsengumi hot spots, but we didn’t spend a lot of time in Tokyo for me to really go looking for stuff there. (I will say there is a disappointing lack of stuff in the Animates I went to.) I’ll be going back in April and focusing more on the sites in Tokyo so I’ll have to report back on that.

Here’s some of the major highlights of my trip that might be most worth noting:

**Warning: Long post is long! Click the location names for relevant links!**

Tokyo

Hijikata Toshizou Museum

The Hijikata family residence where Hijikata’s family resided during his lifetime has evolved to include a museum. Since the site is still a private residence, the added on museum is only open during certain days of the year. Typically two Sundays each month. Hino is considered part of greater Tokyo, but it’s quite a hike from the city itself. This is one of those places you have to be prepared to go to and spend a good chunk of your day at. The museum is small and you won’t be there long but it’s a wonderful place to go. The family runs it and is very pleasant to visit with. This is also where you would go to see Hijikata’s beloved sword, Izuminokami Kanesada.

Sekiden-ji

Being that Hino is Hijikata’s hometown, there’s more than just the museum to visit. Just a few minutes journey from the museum is the Sekiden-ji or Sekiden Temple which is one of at least four places, I believe, with a grave for Hijikata. It’s a temple with a cemetery, containing many members of the Hijikata family, so it’s important to be respectful but it’s easy to find the stone marker and the grave itself is nearby.

Hino also has a big Shinsengumi festival every year in May. One of these days I’m going to go to it.

It’s good to wander around the city a bit. There’s so many houses with the Hijikata name plate and it’s clear this town is proud of it’s famous historical figure. I’m looking forward to going back and exploring it more on my own to see what I missed last time.

Itabashi - Kondou Isami’s Grave Marker

Itabashi is where Kondou was executed and after the war was over, Nagakura Shinpachi built the grave to memorialize the commander in 1876. Hijikata’s name is also inscribed on the stone pillar. Nearby is also a grave for Shinpachi as well. It’s a straight shot from Itabashi station so it’s not too difficult to find. The grave honestly is a memorial to the entirety of the Shinsengumi, but being that this is where Kondou was executed, it has special significance for that reason.

Other places to visit in Tokyo, that I intend to visit when I go back this year, include:

Shieikan dojo - There’s nothing much remaining here beyond a stone marker, but this is the origin of the Shinsengumi and worth visiting.
Ryuugen-ji - Kondou’s body was brought here (sans his head) after his execution and buried.
Imado Shrine - This site is primarily famous for being the birthplace of the manekineko or ‘lucky cats’ but it’s also significant for being the site of the hospital where Okita Souji was supposed to be recovering from tuberculosis. It’s not his grave or where he actually died though.
Sensou-ji - But his grave is close at the famous Sensou-ji, however, it is only open one day a year.
Chofu/Mitaka City - Birthplace of Kondou Isami and many members of the Shinsengumi.
Kashio Bridge - Former site of the Battle of Koushuu-Katsunuma, the battle the followed the Battle of Toba-Fushimi and Kondou Isami’s last battle before his execution.

Kyoto

Mibudera / Yagi House

One of the sites of the Shinsengumi’s headquarters, these two places are a must see. The nice thing is that once you find one, the other is right down the same road, practically around the corner. You’ll see big “makoto” banners that signify they’re Shinsengumi sites. The Yagi House does do tours but they will not be in English (hopefully you get the nice man with the strong Kansai accent–he’s super nice). After the tour you get to go to the little shop that’s out in front for some tea and a treat as part of paying for a ticket for the tour. There’s a little garden in Mibudera that you pay 100 yen to get into but that’s where all the statues and memorials are that are the highlight. Including this really neat prayer board:

Nishi Honganji

The second headquarters of the Shinsengumi. It’s HUGE and it’s beautiful. Definitely worth a visit. Seriously, my pictures do not do the size of this place justice. It was immense. No wonder the squad wanted to relocate here.

Ikeda Inn/Hana no Mai Restaurant

Now the site of the Hana no Mai Ikeda Inn branch but there’s a stone marker outside that states that this is the site where the Ikeda Inn used to stand. You need to make reservations but worth it for a good meal and where I drank my way through the Hakuouki Shinsengumi XD

Nijo Castle

Nijo Castle is a good place to visit just because it’s Kyoto and it’s where the Shogun lived when he was being protected by the Shinsengumi. As I recall it’s the site in the Hakuouki game where Kazama and the other demons reveal themselves to Chizuru while the Shinsengumi are guarding the Shogun.

Sanjo Bridge

We weren’t able to make it here, being on a time crunch, but it is near the castle. A site that is also famous to the Shinsengumi and all of Kyoto in general. This is the bridge where the notice was that Sano protected in Hakuouki. It’s also said that there’s a sword wound on one of the pillars on the east side from the Ikeda Inn Incident.

Shimabara

Our ryokan was here so we got kind of an intimate experience of the area but it’s a nice little area to explore if you have the chance. The infamous red light district, this is where many men, the Shinsengumi included, would go to relax and drink off-duty. The entrance gate is kind of the major tourist attraction but this is where you can find the Sumiya.

Sumiya

This is the ageya famous for being visited frequently by Serizawa Kamo and the location where Hijikata and Kondou got Serizawa drunk before later assassinating him at the Yagi House. It’s also the oldest remaining example of an ageya still in existence. There’s sword marks inside made by Serizawa on the first and second floor. You need to make a reservation to see the second floor but it’s so worth it. We weren’t allowed to take pictures inside (which is pretty typical) but there’s one room that is just covered all over with inlaid mother of pearl and it’s just insane. And they still don’t know how they did it!

You are allowed to take pictures on the first floor and this is supposedly one of the sword marks from Serizawa:

Our ryokan was literally two houses down from this site and when I realized where we were I might have had an emotional freak out… >_>

There’s soooo many places in Kyoto though, one day I hope to go back and find the others that I know we missed. Fun side-story, one of the things one of my friends wanted to do what do some Shinsengumi cosplay, so he found us a shop that did it and on our last day in Kyoto we dressed up and got to visit the Mibudera in our outfits, it was pretty embarrassing but I’m glad we did it XD

Here, have a picture:

Ironically, it was the one day in our stay that it was RAINING LIKE CRAZY -_-

Aizu-Wakamatsu

Tsuruga-jou (Tsuruga Castle) aka Aizu-Wakamatsu Castle

When Saitou talks about defending Aizu, this is the castle at the center of it all. Tsuruga Castle was the home of Lord Matsudaira Katamori, who is the man responsible for sponsoring the Shinsengumi in the first place. He is the man that they feel indebted to and is basically the man they answered to, ultimately, and this is where he and his family resided. And for me, this is where my fascination with this period in history started, so naturally I had to go back. The original castle had been so riddled artillery fire during the Battle of Aizu, that it was demolished by the new government in 1874. The tenshu, the largest tower of the castle, was reconstructed in 1965 and currently houses a museum on the inside. It really is a must-see for anyone interested in the Bakumatsu and the Shinsengumi.

Iimori-yama (Iimori Hill) / Byakko-tai Memorial

The Byakko-tai was a squadron of young teenage boys from the Aizu domain that fought to defend Tsuruga Castle and the city of Aizu during the Battle of Aizu. They were fighting along with the remnants of the Shinsengumi that stayed behind (such as Saitou), perhaps not directly though under the same banner of Aizu, but tragically, when the boys saw Tsuruga Castle burning they assumed the castle had fallen and each committed ritual suicide on the hill. While the castle would eventually fall, the tragedy is the boys’ death was premature. At the top of a long path of stairs climbing up the side of the hill (mountain? Feels like a mountain lol) is the memorial dedicated to them. This was the site where I really felt my first interest in the Bakumatsu and the Boshin War blossoming, so while not exactly a Shinsengumi site per se, it’s still related history and worth visiting.

Hakodate

Goryoukaku

The famous site of the last battle of the Boshin War. Goryoukaku fort is where Hijikata retreats with what remains of the pro-Shogunate forces when they flee to Hokkaido, at the time called Ezo. Now the site is a park that is infamous for it’s gorgeous cherry blossoms. I was sad that unfortunately we were there a little too soon for the cherry blossoms but practically all the trees on the site are cherry blossom trees so when they are in full bloom it is quite a site I’m told.

The Magistrate’s Office (lower picture) was only recently rebuilt as a museum over the site of the original office and is the location of Hijikata and Chizuru’s infamous kiss in Hakuouki ;) Though in reality it is the last stand of Hijikata and his beleaguered men. Walking through it is rather incredible as much detail was put into the restoration and one of the rare sites that lets you take pictures throughout the interior. They had DVDs for sale that went through the details and the lengths that they went through to reconstruct the Magistrate’s Office and it is beyond fascinating, I purchased a copy and hope to be able to share it some day.

Goryoukaku Tower

Not necessarily a Shinsengumi site historically speaking but if you want a nice aerial view of Goryoukaku Fort this is where you want to go. Also, personally, there’s two wonderful Hijikata statues here that are worth seeing, and a whole blow-by-blow of the Battle of Hakodate that’s really neat and that I have pictures of that I hope to share at some point.

Shomyo-ji (Shomyo Temple) / Memorial Monument for Hijikata Toshizou and the Shinsengumi

Here’s a description taken from the sign on site:

“After joining Enomoto’s army, Toshizo Hijikata (deputy leader of Shinsengumi) was killed in the battle of Hakodate. Opinions are divided regarding the exact location of his burial; Ippongi in Wakamatsu-cho, Tsuruoka-cho, or Eikokubashi in Jujigai. A record taken from the Kongoji Temple in Hino, Hijikata’s hometown in present-day suburban Tokyo, only noted that Hijikata’s memorial monument was erected in Shomyoji Temple in Hakodate. The monument did not survive three fires during the Meiji era, and the present monument was erected in 1973 by volunteers.

Four others names of Shinsengumi members’, whose tombstones in Shomyoji Temple were destroyed during a typhoon in 1953, were also engraved on the monument.”

Monument Marking the Site of Hijikata’s Death

Located in front of a rather normal office building, this was the end of our pilgrimage, which I’m not a religious person necessarily but the weight of standing here and having come so far, I cried. Finding this was a little difficult but we had managed to get lucky and when I explained to our taxi driver why we were there and what we were doing and he literally drove us to our last two destinations pointing out highlights and patiently waiting for us at each site. It’s really cheesy, I know, but coming here was the pinnacle of a long journey and I really hope I can go back again one day to pay my respects again.

This person’s blog has some great suggestions of things to see in Kyoto relating to the Shinsengumi:

http://matome.naver.jp/odai/2140320228711779601?&page=1

Of course, as I said earlier, the only downside is that none of it is in English, which is going to be the struggle for anyone really wanting an immersive Shinsengumi or Bakumatsu experience. While you can get around not knowing the language I feel like, honestly, there would be a lot lacking. Especially if you try to venture further North to Aizu or Hakodate, Aizu in particular would be tough for non-Japanese speakers.

There were so many places to see and since I was not on my own there was just not enough time to hit them all, but these were the major stopping points on our tour along the path of the Shinsengumi.

If I had to make an anime guiness book of world records...
  • I’d put izuocha as the first canon ship in manga/anime no one cares about.
  • Kaneki as the anime/character who’s gone through the most changes in life.
  • Attack on Titan, or Fullmetal Alchemist would be the most unique plot.
  • Assassination Classroom would be the most unique shounen.
  • Fairytail would be the non-shoujo/romance/slice of life or whatever with the most chest/panty/booty flashes aka fanservice.
  • Subaru (re: zero) would be the most annoying anime main character.
  • Kabaneri of the Iron fortress would be the first ripoff anime to succeed. (don’t get me wrong, I love Kabaneri but it is way too similar with attack on titan)
  • Tokyo Ghoul/ Attack on Titan/ One Punch Man/s first opening as the most popular/ parodied.
  • Boku no pico as the anime with the most memes.
  • Boku no Hero as the fastest growing fanbase… I guess?
  • Izuku as the cutest shounen mc ever.
  • Bakugou Katsuki as the best character with a inferiority complex/overblown ego.
  • Kiznaiver as the most unique anime op
  • Yuri on Ice as the best/most popular anime representing LGBT ever.
  • Boku no Hero as the first fanbase with BL ships overlapping every other ship. (well at least that I’ve seen)
  • Big Order as the anime with the worst/most plot holes ever.
  • Dragonball Super’s Gohan as the character with the most wasted potential ever (although I think he’s training with piccolo currently…idk)
  • Beerus the destroyer/ Whis as the most loveable villains ever, I just love those guys damn…
  • Naruto Shippuden with the most fillers.
  • Naruto Shippuden as the worst handler of romance…does that make sense? (I know it’s a shounen anime, but they could have at least put more detail in the wedding DX!)
  • Tanya Degurecheff as the best female child in anime.
  • Magical Girl Uprising Project as the most deceptive title in anime ever!!!!!! That anime is not what it seems or sounds like…at all, it’s really…dark.
  • Mob Psycho 100 as the anime with the most unique animation.
  • Shingeki no bahamut s2 as the anime with the best visuals.
  • Your lie in April/Erased anime op as the catchiest.
  • I can’t say best anime op because there are way too many good anime op’s out there.
  • Re: creators as the most creative storyline.
  • Clockwork Planet as the anime that made me cringe so hard, so many times after only watching 3 episodes.
  • Daizai from bungou stray dogs as the most badass, non op character ever.

People are probably going to think I'm quite macabre now, but I think the scenes where the senshi dies in all seasons are the best ones. Not because I think they deserve it, but because those scenes are the most brutal and heart-wrenching deaths I have ever seen in anime, I still cry my heart out whenever I watch those scenes despite having watched them oh so many times through the years.

I totally agree.

The classic anime made their deaths so heartbreaking, moving and unforgettable that these scenes remain as one of the most memorable ones in the entire show.

In order of events:

🎑 Sailor Jupiter’s death

🎑 Sailor Mercury’s death

🎑 Sailor Venus’ death

🎑 Sailor Mars’ death

I just posted the first season deaths because Tumblr won’t let me embed more and because the last two episodes of the first season are simply the most iconic of them all.

These poor sis giving their lives for Sailor Moon and the safety of the world.

When will Crystal senshi tbh?.

I didn’t take many photos at ACen, I wasn’t there long friday, and after fainting on Saturday and coming out with a concussion (CONcussion if you will), I didn’t take any more photos. So basically I only have pictures from Saturday. Which is when I met @moderatelyokaycosplay ! (And I met him twice!) He is my favorite cosplayer and such an inspiration and I was overjoyed to meet him. And then fainted in front of him. Whoops.

As I promised in my last post, more info. I have no idea why I fainted. Wasn’t dehydrated, I had eaten, wasn’t feeling particularly off that day or anything. I realized I was really shaky when I was going to take my photo and afterwards I felt really heavy and weird. Then I guess I collapsed. It’s all fuzzy.

John was really sweet about it from what I hear (I wasn’t really conscious), he helped with the crowd and all! I haven’t really properly thanked him either, so if you see this, thank you a ton, John! I had a great time meeting you twice and I’m sorry for causing a scene and worrying you there.

The left picture is when I first got to meet him! He was really sweet and it was honestly a great experience even if I fainted afterwards.
I was really overwhelmed when coming to and while in the ambulance so my make up is bad and no wig but the second picture is after all that mess.

Looking at it now, ACen was such a great experience despite me fainting. Even if in the time I wasn’t feeling my best, I met amazing people and had a great time. Thanks for an amazing ACen 2017!

anonymous asked:

I hope this doesn't sound rude but can you please tell me some of the canon ereri moments in the series?

Hey anon! This isn’t rude at all. I’m glad you asked :)

I came across a post on tumblr describing a LOT of ereri moments in the anime & manga. I would write everything here, but I think this post describes it so good, It would be best to read it.

http://erensjaegerbombs.tumblr.com/post/92186415110/a-look-at-eren-levis-relationship

I recommend all ereri shippers to read it. People can take it different ways, some can say that this is just a platonic and respectful relationship facts, some can say that that’s just how their characters perform, etc. But in my eyes, there is so much ‘ereri’ in those scenes. You can definitely see their concern for one another, and how their relationship change as time goes on.

Also, there are other posts i’ve came across on other sites, which gives information on canon moments in the manga, here are the links-

All of these gives us canon ereri moments. So it would be great for you to read it!

I hope this helps anon ♥

anonymous asked:

how have the trends in art style in the warriors/cat animator community changed over the years? i only joined near the end of the reign of spottedfire25, so i'm not really sure.

disclaimer: i’ve only been in this fandom since 2008, so i’m going to start from there! any earlier and i’m out of my depth. i’m going to begin with allikatnya and end in the present.

in 2008, allikatnya uploaded her iconic “bones shatter” amv. this amv introduced two incredibly important things to the then-tiny warriors fandom: frame by frame animation and the anime art style. allikatnya’s work mimicked the style of kimba the lion (the japanese predecessor to the lion king), and her style gained a lot of traction for a couple big reasons: it had anime influence (which was exciting to a lot of middle school weaboos i.e. the entire fandom at the time), it was well-suited to frame by frame animation, and it was accessible. allikat’s art style was easy to mimic, and it gave a ton of kids who otherwise had no artistic ability a chance to participate in the fandom. many more artists entered the amv scene around this time and the fandom became a sort of anime art style arms race…

darkkokiri generated interest in the fandom with their famous “frontlines” amv…

and flightfootwarrior’s art brought darkness/graphic violence to the fandom that hadn’t really been there before, which excited a lot of fans because it was “edgy” and “portrayed the dark subject matter of the books accurately.” i know their art sure excited ten year old me for both of these reasons… more importantly, flightfootwarrior’s exclusive use of paint and windows movie maker encouraged an entire generation of kids, who had previously been discouraged by a lack of access to “proper” art programs, to draw. if they could make videos using only default programs, so could everyone else.

ssswarriorcats rocked everyone’s world with the highest quality project to date: a mock opening they’d made in a style reminiscent of a lot of classic 90′s anime.

since all of the fandom’s best work was being done in an anime style, that style took over for the next six years. almost every big animator in that time period (i like to call 2009-2012 the “golden age” of warriors fandom in my head, but that’s just me) had an anime-influenced art style: sitavara, chrissietheeevee, spottedfire25 (as you mentioned, anon), duckfeatherz, ryulovestsute, silverwolfnyght, myself… i could go on for hours but this post is already long enough, haha.

there are two animators that are “anomalies” to the anime art style popularity rule, though: tribbleofdoom and bluekyokitty, whose art had more of a classic cartoon feel to it. both boasted fantastic animation and influenced the fandom in really huge ways.

blue’s mastery of ms paint was incredibly inspiring to beginner artists trying to master the program themselves, and unlike a majority of popular warriors artists, he spent time drawing elaborate backgrounds and scenery. he also had distinct, consistent designs for every cat and was experimental with markings, which pushed the fandom to new levels design-wise. his tigerstar design in particular gained a lot of traction… you’d be hard pressed to find one in the fandom even now that escaped his influence.

tribbleofdoom’s videos, on the other hand, were inspiring because of their length. they were the longest in the fandom by far and are still pretty substantial, even now; every video of theirs averages six minutes and has thousands upon thousands of frames. their style of airbrush shading was popular for a while, and their lip syncing animations were the most advanced the fandom had to offer for years.

but then something happened in the warriors fandom in 2012: the animators got older. most of us had spent our middle school years in the fandom and had gotten tired of the constant bickering and emo rock, and high school/college were fast approaching… so we left. i like to call this period the “mass warriors artist exodus.” i honestly have no idea what happened in the fandom from 2012-2014 because i wandered away, so if anyone wants to fill me in, that’d be awesome! what i do know, though, is that when i came back, things had changed significantly.

ginjaninjaowo’s work had become a fandom favorite, and for good reason! i remember being blown away by how exquisitely animated, sharp, and professional her work was when i returned to the fandom last year.

velocira’s work was also noteworthy to me upon my return because of its minimalism and distinct style. the experimentalism present in many of her videos (especially her creative incorporation of text and her skill with lineless art) inspired a lot of artists to think outside the box.

niftyapplestar, on the other hand, had mastered her unique style of both art and animation over the years and set the new standard for just about everything. her work boasted fantastic animation, awesome color theory and very professional concept art/character design, which introduced the fandom to the value of individualistic, distinctive character design. artists set out to destroy “same face syndrome,” something that had been plaguing the fandom for years.

i’m not sure if it’s because young artists these days have easier access to good art, or if it’s because the warriors artists who returned to the fandom have come back older and wiser… but lately the work the fandom has produced has been more experimental and, for lack of a better word, “artsier” than it’s even been. here’s a frame by hullumel from one of allikat’s maps that displays what i’m talking about pretty well…

one theory i have is that since maps (multi animator projects) have taken over the warriors youtube community lately, consistency is no longer as important as it used to be. artists/animators are given a handful of seconds to show everyone what they’re capable of and what their artistic vision is, and since every map has a different theme/set of rules, artists’ work is expected to vary drastically from part to part. this allows for a much broader range of experimentation than before. here are a couple quick examples…

gingajeketsutei’s work plays with texture and color in a lot of fantastic ways!

and artists like xishka and maplespyder are introducing digital painting to the fandom, which is amazing.

overall, the fandom has gotten infinitesimally artsier and more diverse, and i’m really excited to see where it heads next!!!

A List of Future Endeavors!

Hahahahaha- I don’t know why I keep doing this to myself. I have so much real world stuff to handle, but I also want to do a lot of art and fandom stuff. Just to help me keep track and give you, my beautiful followers and friends, an idea of what is to come, here’s a list~

 (1) More String Cup icons! (´∇ノ`*)ノSeries that I know I’m doing are Yuri on Ice!!!, Stardew Valley, Soul Eater and Hero Academia. Ones that are still up in the air include Love Live, Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid, and the Tales of series

(2) Mystic Messenger English Voice Actor Choices. I’m a slut for dubbed anime and even more so for dubbed voice actors (send your “EW DUB” and “YOU’RE NOT WATCHING ANIME RIGHT” complaints to Idontcare@supportEnglishDubs.com) And I’ve always been curious what the MysMes cast would sound like in English.

So I’ve been listening attentively and making lists of the best VAs for the main members + V, Unknown, and Rika. It’ll take a bit because I also have to gather voice clips, but I’m really looking forward to posting this one.

(3) Jumin and my Custom MC stuff. Given how much I draw him (which is like three times, all Chibi, not counting Juminyan), most won’t guess Jumin is actually my second fave. Hehe. It’s his hair man. But I have so many ideas for him and his MC that need to be done. Expect a similar comic setup like I did with Zen and his MC. And expect all four of them to appear together. A lot.

(4) Zen dress up. Literally, just me drawing Zen dressed up as my favorite characters from other games and anime. Why? Because I need to practice drawing clothes. And I’m Zen’s bitch now. I can’t stop drawing him. It’s a curse. SAVE ME.

(5) YooSeven and ZenxMC AU. This one is tricky because I’m still working out the story in my head. But basically I’ve had this AU in the works where both MC and 707 are stuck in the 11-day loop and are aware of it and retain memories after every reset. Deep down they know the only way to stop it is for the two of them to “end up together” because the “game” they’re in dictates they SHOULD be together. But they’re both in love with other people, and as long as they keep pursuing that love they will always reset. I doubt I will go further with the idea past a comic or two (I stopped posting fanfiction years ago), but I really wanted to get this idea out there.

That’s basically it. Short but heavy. I’m still doing the challenges you all have sent me, as well. I just take long to answer them because I tend to ramble or be a perfectionist with each request (;☉_☉)

And of course, I’m doing something for Zen’s birthday. Can’t let a holiday go to waste now can I?

Anyway- if you managed to get this far, thank you for reading! Hopefully you’re looking forward to the final products as much as I’m looking forward to finishing them (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧

How I got into Fairy Tail (the love of my life)

I was tagged by @summylise AND @lucy-heartflawless Thank you so much, my loves~

Oh goodness. I know I’ve grazed over how I got into Fairy Tail, but I suppose it goes deeper. I started watching anime that wasn’t DBZ or Pokémon when I was 12. I distinctly remember rollerskating with my best friend in 7th grade (no longer my best friend). She told me about Death Note and Soul Eater, and so I watched those two first. But I digress.

My best friend from 8th grade-present, was the first person I heard about Fairy Tail from. I doubt she remembers too much LOL, but I remember seeing her post about Fairy Tail and Erza all the time for about 2 or 3 weeks, before she ended up not watching more of it. It was probably around winter of 2013-2014 when she was posting about it. I was very interested, but due to being in the middle of other series, I did not start it.

Flash forward to the autumn of 2014, my freshman year of high school. I was struggling to find myself, in this giant and useless world of high school. I didn’t have anything I was distinguished by, besides having a twin sister in cheerleading. I was “someone in band” or just that kid that passes you in the hallway. I was so shy, even though I’d come out of my shell a lot in middle school. I didn’t have many friends, and due to my quiet nature, I didn’t make friends. Few people knew I identified as bi my freshman year, and I felt like no one knew me. Everything was made worse my freshman year when my grandmother, the most important person on this earth to me, passed away. I never got to tell her how much I loved her. I stayed home that summer instead of taking her up on her offer to hang out, because I wanted to play my stupid new xbox instead. I never got to say goodbye. I’m really going off trail here wow. Anyway, yeah, super hard year.

SO NOW IS WHERE I’M INTRODUCED TO FT, TRULY. Early winter, 2014-2015. My other best friend, 6th grade-present, told me all about this fantastic series that I simply must watch, and it was long, so it could take my mind off things! Fairy Tail. Little did I know what a….incredible impact it would have on my life. My goodness I’m tearing up. I remember the moment I started Fairy Tail, episode 1. When I watched the first opening for the first time I remember smiling so hard, I was just so happy! I binged it for weeks on end, and it became a part of me. I imagined it to be so much different, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything else.

The characters, believe it or not, made me come out of my shell. I started to actually talk to people without them talking to me first. If someone tried to roast me, I got a reputation for roasting back even harder. I got into Tumblr, I got into memes, I became the meme queen. After 2 and a half years of FT and what it gave me, I can say with a straight face that I’m well-liked and well-known. It wasn’t even that FT was a conversation starter, I just felt more empowered with it. It was my life source, it still is. It’s a part of my heart, and probably a part of my brain. My energy is boosted by it. It’s simply amazing tbh.

I will be devastated when it ends.

I will tag… @arikafd @daydreamingburrito @aessire @sutormu @rayskittles33

Why the Stardust Crusaders OVA is actually pretty good: a post

So, the Stardust Crusaders OVA gets a lot of shit from, at least, Western fans on tumblr - idk how Japan took to it. And while the art style is a different brand of strange from the original, and while it takes a lot of liberties, it’s actually pretty fucking good? I mean christ, Satoshi Kon was called in to help out with showing Dio’s timestop - the people making this were clearly trying to do the series justice. Like, Skywalker Sound was involved in the making of this OVA?? Apparently, the only time they have worked for an anime.

Tho that doesn’t stop it from being a bit…messy. The first episodes were made in 1993, starting with the introduction of Iggy and fight with N’Doul. This half is 6 episodes long, and highlights the following fights: N’Doul (spanning 2 episodes), D’Arby, and then 3 episodes following the Dio fight. If you’re not a fan of the series, and don’t know the backstory, you’re going to be horribly lost. Especially when it opens up with this:

Even if you’re a fan you’d probably see this like “since when is this a Battle Tendency OVA???????”

ya know, it's kinda funny how y/o/i technically has only existed for a few months & the fandom has done so much shit that it's kinda impressive how fast it went bad, someone should make a Top 10: Stupid/Embarrassing Things the y/o/i Fandom has Done! here i'll start it off: Tried to sue Hall/mark for "copying" their precious anime.

9. Saying that there are y o i fans in the BNHA production team because they showed a katsudon in one episode

8. Comparing real life skaters (esp yuzuru hanyu) to y o i characters

7. Listing off stupid things that multiple anime has already included (natural hair color, pets, different clothes, you rmb that post) and claiming that y o i is special because it has all of those ‘’’qualities’’

6. Saying that vicsucc is the first gay anime characters who kissed on screen (which they didnt cuz it’s censored)

5. Voting y o i for best animation and then calling mob100 fans stupid and butthurt when they didnt win, but at the same time latching on every opportunity ever to tell people to VOTE FOR Y O I

4. Every 5k meta they have ever written, ever

3. Worrying about vicdick when someone’s brother was murdered for his sexuality

2. Worrying about vicdick when there are real people in russia being sent to a concentration camp for being gay

1. Still saying that vicsucc is ~canon~ and is not queerbait material for fangirls to drool over
