Casanave House, Washington DC | Benjamin Latrobe (built 1802)

Working in Georgetown has piqued my interest in its 5th mayor (1794-95) and my ancestor, Spanish immigrant Peter Casanave. He was married to Ann Young, daughter of Notley Young, and their daughter married Major Parke Howle.

In 1802, the famous architect Benjamin Latrobe designed their home (on land inherited upon Notley’s passing) which remained for a little over a century until it was sadly torn down to create the Bureau of Engraving and Printing.
