The Efficiency Expert- The Value of a Hard Day’s Work
Wonderful little Australian film that I caught in the theater during the brief time it passed through our town. It seems to have dropped off the face of the earth ever since then, and it was even hard finding a decent picture to go with this post. Called ‘Spotswood’ when it was released down under, this one stars Anthony Hopkins as a corporate raider (under the guise of an ‘efficiency expert’) who is enlisted by the owner of a small moccasin factory to help 'improve his bottom line’. The workers at this small quirky factory are all expecting 'modernization techniques’, but unbeknownst to them, he’ll more than likely be firing them all and liquidating the company. Quietly funny and has some great things to say about our modern outlook on profits and stockholders and the true value of 'work’, and is a really uplifting and enjoyable story.
