Cavitated Pump Diffuser Restored With Belzona

Application Situation:
Theme park pond pump performing below requirements.

Problem:
Cavitation had caused severe metal loss to pump impeller and diffuser. New impeller was available but no diffuser available.

Products:
Belzona® 1111 (Super Metal)

Substrate:
Cast Iron

Application Method:
Application was carried out in accordance with Belzona System Leaflet CEP-1. Pump shop tack welded “rebar” into deeply cavitated areas. Belzona® 1111 applied to replace lost metal. Belzona machined to original diffuser dimensions.

Belzona Facts:
Old pump and new diffuser not available. $450 of Belzona used to quickly and effectively repair this valuable component.

Cavitation Damage Repair w/ Belzona®

Application Situation:
Stabilizer from a MK-5 High Speed Patrol Boat

Problem:
Much like a rudder, cavitation damage will manifest itself on the areas of greatest pressure differential. In this case, entrained solids and cavitation caused metal damage to the trailing edge of the patrol boat’s two stabilizers.

Application Method:
The application was carried out in accordance with Belzona Know-How System Leaflets SOS-1 and 2.

Belzona Facts:
You can TIG/MIG weld aluminum, however this process is both expensive and time consuming. In addition, you risk introducing dissimilar metals during this uncontrolled heat treatment process.This particular vessel is on a constant state of readiness and the dock time is limited to an as needed basis.

GE Steam Turbine Repair

Due to this giant Steam Turbine housing being dropped from a crane, two cracks formed on opposite corners. The method of repair was to terminate the cracks by filling them in with Belzona® 1311 (Ceramic R-Metal). More of the R-Metal was then used to glue the reinforcement plates down, followed by tightening the bolts down. This effective repair is known as a “Turbine Bonnet”.

GE saved a great deal of money thanks to this repair by the Belzona product. There were no replacement options available to GE, so this got them back in service quickly and at a reasonable price.

Belzona® Protects 98% Sulfuric Acid Containment Area

Customer Location:
Power Plant, Alabama USA

Application Date:
December 2007

Application Situation:
98% Sulfuric Acid containment area in water treatment plant.

Problem:
Sulfuric Acid containment area coating had failed and needed re-coating.

Products:
Belzona® 4311 (Magma CR1)

Substrate:
Concrete

Application Method:
Application was carried out in accordance with Belzona Know-How System Leaflet TCC-15. Old coating was removed using high pressure water blasting. Belzona® 4311 was applied to both containment and tank stands.

Belzona Facts:
Belzona has been used for years in many of Alabama Powers plants. Customer trusted product and longevity of previous applications.
