(this is basically a scene from deathly hallows, with y/n replacing hermione & paired with draco.)
The rope dug into my wrists and my sides as we were led down a long, dark, high-ceilinged corridor. I had no idea where we were, as the Snatchers had blindfolded us on the way over here. With Ron on my right and Harry on my left, Greyback and his men shoved us into a large sitting room, in which stood Bellatrix Lestrange, hair frizzy and eyes ablaze, cackling when she saw us enter.
“Well, well. What do we have here?” she inquired, grinning and striding towards us.
“We caught them in the forest. They had this - the sword of Gryffindor.” Fenrir Greyback sneered, holding up the sword Harry had found in the lake. “I’m pretty sure that one is the Potter boy.”
I hoped with all of my being that they didn’t recognize Harry underneath the sting charm I put on his face.
Bellatrix stared at the sword, raising an eyebrow. “Draco! Come here, sweetheart!” Bellatrix yelled, directing her voice in a different direction.
My breath caught in my throat and my heart lurched. My mind raced, and I mentally cursed at myself for not realizing whose house we were in sooner.
Draco emerged from another room and made his way over to us, worry written all over his face. When his eyes met mine, his lips parted and his left eyebrow twitched. Bellatrix and Greyback didn’t seem to take notice.
“Draco dear, come.” said Narcissa Malfoy, whom I hadn’t even noticed before. Draco’s father stood next to his wife as she asked, “Is this Harry Potter?”
The blonde boy stopped in front of Harry, looking at his deformed face. Draco was so close to me that I could smell the startling scent of his cologne.
Draco hesitated before saying, “Um, I’m not sure.”
He knew it was Harry; I was sure of it. If Draco saw Ron and I, he knew that Harry Potter was with us.
“Son,” Lucius Malfoy said, walking over and placing a hand on Draco’s shoulder. “The Dark Lord will repay us, greatly, if we are the ones to hand Potter over.”
Draco looked down and swallowed, his adam’s apple bobbing up and down.
“Well, what about her?” Bellatrix asked, pointing right at me. My heart rate tripled. “Isn’t that the Mudblood that’s missing? She’s associated with Potter. Do you recognize her, Draco?”
Draco stepped in front of me. He looked directly into my eyes, and I was reminded of that blue-grey I’d come to be so familiar with.
— SEVEN MONTHS AGO —
We were kissing. The security in the Slytherin dormitories was very scarce, so I had gotten into Draco’s room very easily, many times. One cloudy Friday night, my hands were tangled in his platinum-blonde hair as my cold lips pressed against his warm ones. His hands wandered from my cheeks to my waist, his fingertips sending chills down my spine.
My hands found their way to the bottom of his sweater, but he immediately shoved them away, as if it were a reflex.
I pulled away from the kiss and asked, “What? What’s wrong?”
I was genuinely confused, because that had never been a problem in the past.
“Nothing, nothing. Sorry, love, I’m just not in the mood…” he said, looking down at his hands.
“Okay.” I said. He wasn’t making much sense, as he’d seemed fine just a moment earlier.
I looked at him, his hair messy from my hands running through it. His right hand ran up and down his left forearm. I stared at it, my mind reviewing the past few weeks. Draco had been quieter than usual, and had fallen into a daze as I was talking to him several times. His skin had become faded, and dark circles resided underneath his eyes. I thought about how he didn’t want me to take his sweater off, and realized he’d been wearing a lot of long sleeves lately. I didn’t know why he was acting like that, but I needed to find out.
“Draco, let me see your arm.” I said, holding out my hand.
His head snapped up to look at me. “Why?” he asked, sounding nervous.
I quickly grabbed his left wrist and pulled it towards me, pushing his sweater sleeve back. My mouth dropped open as my eyes fell on the ink black mark of a snake and a skull embedded into Draco’s fair skin.
“What the-” I started.
He pulled his arm away suddenly, causing me to look back up at his face. “Look-” he said.
“My parents forced me, okay? This was not my choice!” he stated, shaking his head.
“That doesn’t matter! I can’t-”
“Y/N, please,” he begged, grabbing my hand. “Don’t-”
I yanked my hand away. “No, Draco!” I said and stood up, knowing he was going to say leave. “Harry’s my best friend. This… isn’t going to work.” I said, coming to the realization just as the words came out of my mouth.
I felt tears rush to my eyes, but did my best to blink them away.
Draco got up and came closer to me. “I love you so much-”
“And I love you too!” I said, backing up towards the door. “But, I can’t…”
I pressed my back against the door, my hand wrapped around the handle. I closed my eyes, not wanting to see the tears leak out of his eyes anymore.
I had started to turn the door handle when I felt Draco’s lips gently press against my forehead. I opened my eyes and let the hot tears cascade down my cheeks.
“I’m sorry.” I whispered, looking up at him.
Then, I opened the door behind me and left.
— THE PRESENT —
“Draco?” Narcissa said. “Is it her?”
“No,” he said, still looking me in the eye. “It’s not her.”
“Are you sure?” Lucius asked.
“Yes. I’m sure.” he said, before finally breaking our eye contact and walking away.
I had to swallow the lump in my throat to keep from bursting into tears.
Ron shifted beside me, and I remembered that he had been the first one that I had told about Draco and I. He had been very surprised, but also very supportive.
Harry, on the other hand, took a while to get used to it.
I heard paper rustling, and saw Greyback walk over to Bellatrix with a copy of the Daily Prophet. “I’m pretty sure that’s her, see?” he said, pointing to a picture in the paper.
Bellatrix looked at the picture, then strode over to me. She grabbed my face with one of her cold hands, squeezing my cheeks. “You’re right.” she said, inches from my face. “Which means this must be Harry Potter. Greyback, take them to the dungeon - except for the Mudblood. Leave her with me.” she snarled, finally releasing my face. I swallowed, hard.
“No! Wait-” Ron yelled.
“Shut up! Go, Greyback! Now.” Bellatrix shouted.
Greyback cut me out from the rope connecting me to the boys and handed me over to Bellatrix, who grabbed my arm, my hands still bound in front of me. Her sharp fingernails dug into my upper arm, and I had to bite my tongue to withhold from expressing my pain.
I looked back at Harry and Ron, who were struggling as they were being led away.
“Wait! Don’t touch her!” Harry yelled, “You can’t-”
“Shut up, Potter!” one of Greyback’s men yelled, shoving the two of them away to the point where I couldn’t see them anymore.
Bellatrix grabbed my face again and forced me to look back at her. “So, Mudblood. Where did you get that sword?”
“We found it.” I replied, which was the truth.
“Liar!” she screamed. “Crucio!”
An excruciating pain spread through my entire body, and I couldn’t help but crumble to the floor. It hurt so badly that my thoughts were blinded by flashes of white. All I could do was scream.
The curse lifted, but the pain didn’t. Bellatrix crouched next to my face, saying, “I’m going to ask you again. Where did you get the sword? Did you take it from my vault?”
“I don’t know anything about a vault. We didn’t take-” I started, but she yanked me into a sitting position by my hair. “Stop lying! CRUCIO!”
The pain multiplied, and I screamed at the top of my lungs. My body felt as if it were on fire, and I was slowly burning alive.
“Stop!” I heard, faintly, through all the pain and screaming. The curse lifted.
I gasped for air, feeling tears on my face.
“Draco?” Bellatrix said, sounding surprised.
“Expelliarmus!” Draco yelled, pointing his wand at Bellatrix. Her wand flew out of her hand, and she went quickly to go get it.
Draco ran over to me. A jinx hit my wrists and the ropes disappeared. He dropped to his knees and pulled me into a tight hug. My entire body shook as I wrap my arms around him, sobbing and gasping for oxygen.
With his cold lips pressed against my ear, he whispered, “Are you okay, love?”
I melted into him, but reality hit me like a wrecking ball when Bellatrix cackled. Draco and I pulled apart, one of his hands holding mine, the other drawing his wand.
“Looks like Draco and the Mudblood have had themselves a little love affair!” Bellatrix said, laughing.
Narcissa and Lucius were both speechless. Draco never told them about us, for obvious reasons.
“What did you just do?” I said to Draco, under my breath. He probably didn’t even hear me, because Bellatrix had viciously yanked him back, causing him to drop his wand.
She had one arm wrapped around her nephew, the other holding her wand to Draco’s throat.
I stood up, weakly.
“Bella!” Narcissa exclaimed, shocked.
“Expelliarmus!” Lucius shouted, making his sister-in-law’s wand fly out of her hand. She kept her grip on Draco, who I hadn’t taken my eyes off of.
“Fine, Cissy. We’ll do this the muggle way.” she said, looking at me. She then pulled a pocketknife out of nowhere, holding it to Draco’s neck.
I stepped forward. “No-”
“One step closer and I’ll slit your boyfriend’s throat.”
I had imagined that Lucius and Narcissa were staring in shock, but my eyes stayed glued to Bellatrix and Draco.
“We’re going to try this again, okay? What did you and your little friends take from my vault?” she said.
I stared at Draco, then back at his aunt. “I’m telling you. We didn’t take anything.” I said.
“STOP LYING, YOU FILTHY MUDBLOOD!” she screamed, pushing the knife onto Draco’s throat just enough to make little beads of blood run down his neck.
A tear ran down my cheek, my heart thumping against my ribcage. “I’m not lying! I swear! Just let him go, please!”
“EXPELLIARMUS!” I heard from behind me. I turned around to see Harry and Ron, who’d just made both of Draco’s parents’ wands go flying.
Bellatrix laughed, but was thrown off her feet, along with Draco, when Ron yelled, “Stupefy!”
“Petrificus Totalus!” Harry yelled twice, binding both Lucius and Narcissa, causing them to fall to the floor, immobilized. Ron hurried over to me and pressed a wand into my hand.
“Come on.” I said, grabbing Ron’s hand and making my way over to Draco as fast as I could, my knees still weakened from the curse.
I kneeled next to Draco and Bellatrix, who were both passed out. I grabbed Draco’s limp hand and yelled, “Harry!”
Harry hurried over and grabbed Ron’s wrist. I apparated the four of us away from Malfoy Manor and into another forest.
I opened my eyes, and found myself lying on a dirt floor. I sat up, and caught a glimpse of blonde hair a few years away. I crawled over to Draco, my body drained from Bellatrix’s curse and the apparation.
He seemed to be unconscious. My mind raced to the possibility of that knife slipping as him and Bellatrix were stunned, and my heart rate multiplied.
His neck looked fine, albeit smeared with dried blood. His eyes were still closed.
“Y/N! Why in bloody hell did you bring Malfoy? He’s going to tell them where we are! I thought you two-”
“Shut up, Harry! It’s fine. Will you let me check if he’s still bloody breathing?” I yelled. Harry fell silent.
I pressed my fingers against Draco’s neck, feeling for a pulse. I couldn’t find it, and my breathing quickened.
“Draco? Draco, can you hear me?” I said, gently patting his cheek.
After a few painful seconds, his eyes fluttered open. I sighed out of relief.
“Thank God.” I said, grinning, as Draco sat up and pulled me into another hug.
“Are you okay?” he asked me, pulling away from the embrace.
“Yeah.” I said, grabbing his hand. “Are you?”
“I am now.” he said, cupping my cheek and kissing me softly on the lips.
“Aw, come on! It’s bad enough that we brought him, but you’re gonna be bloody snogging him the whole time?” Ron said, reminding me that Draco and I weren’t alone.
Draco pulled away just to say, “Shut up, Weasley.”
I laughed and pulled him in for another kiss.
