Sooo, I should be studying Physics, but I can’t shake the feeling that Sirius Black sucked at Astronomy, then I decided to write about it.
In my imagination, Sirius was one of that students that didn’t do shit in class and still got an A (or, in this case, an O). In every subject, all he needed to learn it all was to pay attention in one class. To me, he had an incredible memory, almost a photographic one, and was an astonishing talented wizard.
When Remus or Peter had a doubt in any homework, they’d ask Sirius (who was a better teacher than James), and he misteriously knew the answer. Later, when the Marauders became friends with Lily, even she would turn to him when she had a problem with Arithmancy or Ancient Runes. And he would borrow her book, for he didn’t take thoses classes, read a bit about it, and then explain to her. When he failed in any exam, everyone would know that he was simply too sleepy or lazy when he took the test.
But it was all different with Astronomy. Walburga tried to teach him a few things about the stars they were named after. However, young Sirius would always get bored in those lectures about the names, the stars and the valuable ascendents of the noble house of Black. He used to let his attention float during this lessons, and, for that, Walburga smacked him, saying he didn’t aprecciate his blood purity enough.
Every lesson about that he’d travel in his own thoughts, then get slapped more and more. He started to hate the stars, the names and that bloody tapestry.
So, in every Astronomy lesson that he had to learn about the stars, he’d get angry. In every essay he ever had to write about that, he put too much pressure on the feather and tore apart the parchment. And it has only gotten worse throught the years. He couldn’t remember where the stars were located ‘cause every time he heard their names, he would block his mind and travel throught his thoughts.
He tried to ask for Remus and James’ help on that, but not even his friends could calm him down. At the begging, he would just be sarcastic about how useless all that crap was. But as his frustration grew, he’d punch the table and swear everything around him. He liked being one of the best students, always one of the smartest, getting better grades than everyone else. And because of his bloody family, he couldn’t pay attention in Astronomy like everybody else without remembering the slaps and that stupid tapestry. And it was such an easy subject! Even Peter could get an O, but him, Sirius, would get at best an A.
So he would not give up and get madder every time he could only get an ‘Acceptable’ on the exam. Until one day he gave up. A single stupid subject wouldn’t make a difference, he still was more intelligent than most students at Hogwarts. He wouldn’t learn that stupid crap his mother wanted him to, and still would become an Auror and hunt that sons of a bitch down.
He had never been so happy about a ‘Troll’ like when he received his O.W.L’s and was more than pleased to drop Astronomy after the fifith year.
