I Want To Write You A Song - Harry Styles Mini Series (Part 26)
It was a few days before Harry’s tour started. Harry had been staying at your house while he got everything in order. You two hadn’t spoken much about the song you had recorded, mostly because there wasn’t really anything to talk about it. The song allowed you lay everything out there and move on from the situation.
You and Harry were at the gym together early one morning. You both were finishing up your workout when he looked over at you with a little glint in his eye. He was up to something and you knew it.
“What?” you asked turning your head towards his direction.
“I’ve not said a thing,” he defends.
“You didn’t have to,” you laughed. “I can tell you have something brewing inside that head of yours.”
“Well, now that you mentioned it,” he smirked. “I’ve been thinking of something for a while now, but I’m not sure how you’d feel about it.”
“That sounds kind of scary,” you laughed. “What is it?”
“Since you got such a huge following after the Live Lounge, I was thinking maybe if you wanted, you could open for me on tour,” he said.
As soon as the words left his lips, your legs stop spinning on the bike.
“Wait, what?” You asked.
“I’m asking you if you want to open for me on tour,” he said. “It’s just an idea, I don’t want you to feel like you have to or anything.”
“But don’t you already have an opening act?” You asked.
“I do, but it’s not like a rule I can only have one,” he said.
“Your tour starts in like a week,” you said.
“I know, I know,” he sighed.
“My album isn’t even out yet,” you said. “I’ve only sung one song to the public, who is to say your fans are even going to like me.”
“They’re going to fucking love you because you’re fucking amazing,” he said.
“You’re my boyfriend, you’re biased,” you pointed out.
“Maybe a little, but I’m telling the truth,” he said.
“I’ve never performed in front of a crowd before,” you said. “I don’t even have a backing band…”
“You don’t need one,” he said.
“I-I don’t know…” you sighed.
“About this, we stop talking about this for right now and you can think about it,” he said. “You can take as long as you want, just because my first show is in a week, doesn’t mean you have to make a decision by then. You can join whenever you want,” he smiled. “If that’s what you choose.”
“Okay, I’ll think about it,” you said.
Harry was at rehearsals later that day, while you were at home. You were sat at the piano staring at it. You had been thinking about what Harry asked you earlier that day about joining him on tour, as an opening act. You couldn’t believe he just up and asked you so soon to his tour starting. Part of you should have been thrilled at the opportunity, but most of you were scared shitless at the thought of getting up there in front of all those people, especially knowing they weren’t there for you.
Plus, it wouldn’t help the rumor that you were using Harry to further your career if you showed up at his concert, singing your songs, as his opening act. And then there was the fact you’d be on stage alone, at least Harry had his band behind him, while you would have no one.
You didn’t know if you were ready for that, but you were going to have to be at some point. If you were going to be in this industry as the artist now, you were going to have perform your own songs in front of other people at some point. And it’s not like you’d be performing your whole album, just a few songs.
Maybe this would good for you. It’d be like getting your feet wet before jumping in completely. You just hoped you didn’t end up sinking to the bottom anyway.
It was the night of Harry’s first show and you had agreed that you’d open for him that night and then see how it goes from there. You were beyond nervous and wished you hadn’t agreed to it all. You would be on stage after MUNA and it would just be you, your guitar, and a piano. You were dressed and ready to go, but you were pacing back and forth in your dressing room.
You were seriously considering canceling it, but that really wouldn’t help your reputation as an artist. Harry had walked in and wrapped his arms around you.
“Baby,” he whispered.
“I know, I know,” you sighed. “I’ve just never done this before and I’m fucking freaking out.”
“I know, but I’ll be standing side stage the whole time,” he smiled. “And you can only sing one song if that’s all you’re comfortable with.”
“What if they hate me?”“ You sighed.
“They’re not going to hate you,” he whispered. “The majority of the fans most likely haven’t heard MUNA’s music before either, but they’re getting out there and fucking rocking it.”
“But they’ve been doing this a lot longer than I have,” you mumbled.
“True, but every one of us had to start somewhere,” he whispered putting his hands on your face.
He pressed his lips against your forehead. “I’ve got faith in you love, but you also have to have faith in yourself.”
“I know,” you nodded. “I’m trying.”
“I love you,” he smiled.
“I love you, too,” you whispered looking up at him.
He smiled pressing his lips against yours.
It was time for you to go out on stage. The stage lights were bright, they were thousands of eyes staring at you. You grabbed your guitar and stood at the microphone in the middle of the stage. The crowd was mostly silent as they waited for you to start. You took a deep breath and started to strum your guitar.
When it was time for you to sing the first note, you couldn’t. Your mouth was open, but nothing came out.
“I-I can’t-” you whispered before turning to head off the stage, but then all of the stage lights went out.
You looked to the side of the stage and saw Harry standing there with a flashlight.
“Just you and me,” he whispered.
You smiled a bit and took another deep breath before strumming your guitar again.
“Man, you really know, how to get someone down
Everything was fine until you came around
And I’ve been chasing after dreamers in the clouds
After all was I the one who said to keep your feet
on the ground?
Man, you really brought me back down,” You sang.
The lights come back on as you sing the chorus and you see the crowd getting into the song as you continue to sing it.
“But I wouldn’t care what it cost me,” you whispered the final line of the song before finishing with a little strum of the guitar.
When you were done, everyone clapped and you smiled a bit.
“Uh, thank you,” you smiled into the microphone. “If you don’t know, my name is Y/N and tonight is actually my first time doing this sort of thing on stage. So, I’m a little nervous. The songs I’m singing tonight will be up on my debut album to be released sometime in 2018 and I hope you enjoy this next song…” you said.
You ended up singing four songs and ended with I Don’t Think About You on the piano. When you hit the final note on the piano, you opened your eyes to a standing ovation and the crowd cheering for you. You felt overwhelmed by the reaction to your music and you waved to everyone before looking over at Harry, who wore the biggest look of pride and love on his face for you.
Maybe he was right, you did have this in you all along, you just had to figure it out for yourself.
Lyrics are taken from 26 by Paramore and I Don’t Think About You by Kelly Clarkson was mentioned as well!
Let me know what you thought of this update and if I should continue with this story or end it here. I could also maybe end it here and work on a sequel/companion to it. Let me know! :)
