Iris Van Herpen

As part of her show at Paris Fashion week, she xi[[ed models into plastic bags and shrink-wrapped them, installing them on the runway hanging from racks. Hooked up to oxygen masks similar to umbilical cords and curled in fetal positions the vacuum packed models looked like very freaky science experiments. To create this weird and bizarre installation Van Herpen collaborated with Belgian artist Lawrence Malsatff, who’s been vacuuming himself since his popular installation Shrink in 2011.

I am very glad to see that the Best Animated Feature Film nominees this year all come from different studios. Not only that, but they’re very different movies, in story (original concepts and adaptations), in design (traditional and computer animation) and include foreign language productions (Japanese and a French/Belgian collaboration).
