Lance being super scary when he starts to be really serious. Like, “I don’t care what you think but you need to shut your mouth and listen to me or I will sew it shut for you.”
Like, the team thought he is joking but then the atmosphere become really cold because Lance, for once, is being openly serious.
And basically the team learned that Lance is a walking time bomb.
Could you be more precise?
I was listening to this podcast …
What do you mean by …?
Well, technically …
Why would people … ?
That makes no sense.
Did I tell you about this already?
That wouldn’t actually happen.
Were you talking to me?
Or, it could be …
Have you considered …?
Just thinking out loud.
What was their name again?
But from a different perspective …
How are you defining …?
What day is it?
I was reading about …
Are you being serious?
I still have time.
Could you repeat that?
I wonder if …?
I’m late for …
What is wrong with people?
It’s a possibility.
Is it that late already?
That’s not entirely accurate.
Where did I put my … ?
I forgot …
What day is it?
I’m trying to think of a better way to …
Just tell me the truth.
Is there more information?
The part I found interesting was …
So anyway …
I’m sure I missed some, but this is a pretty good start. (That actually works, too. … And so does that. I need to stop.)
Things I know now about college that I didn't before
♦️Carry a 1L water bottle everywhere and refill it as needed or you will get dehydrated and feel dizzy walking from class to class in the midday sun
♦️Find out where microwaves are available and save some money by avoiding any overpriced campus food. Watch out for lines though!
♦️Make friends with your TAs I cannot stress this enough. They usually aren’t out to get you and understand the struggles of an undergrad.
♦️You are always going to carry too much stuff in your bag. Planning on doing your econ, math, and bio hw in your two hour break? Think again. Be realistic or your back will pay
♦️Even if you prefer print books over ebooks, the fact that you literally always have access to your ebooks on any mobile device you have will be a blessing
♦️Sometimes certain offices and buildings and labs on campus have their own free printing, separate from the library or your dorm
♦️Invest in a printer if you can (b&w is all you need btw). Share the cost with your roommate for ink and paper and charge anyone else 50% of what your school charges per page. Charge so people don’t take advantage of your kindness!! You’ll save many, many, lives my friend.
♦️Set up an exercise schedule as strict as your class schedule. Try your very best to follow it
♦️Please eat at least twice a day I know it can be hard without having others to remind you.
♦️It’s ok to go a day alone, especially since college involves a lot more interaction than you may be used to.
♦️Work hard to understand and you’ll get the grades you deserve.
♦️Eat fresh fruit every once in a while your skin and insides will thank you.
♦️Invest in comfortable shoes or arch supports if needed. Don’t ignore physical discomfort!!
♦️Some people can regularly stay up til 4am and others can’t. Some people can’t function on less than 9hrs of sleep and others can live with only 4hrs. Everyone’s different!! Follow your own sleep schedule!!
♦️Pasta made with a bag of frozen veggies, a pack of pasta, and a jar of pasta sauce can last you most of a week.
♦️Talk to your professors about general things too like their dog or their weekend plans and all bc heh they’re human too and forming connections is great. Also, remember that being professional doesn’t mean being boring or serious all the time, crack some jokes and don’t stifle your personality.
♦️Set boundaries early on in /all/ your relationships, personal, romantic, professional, all of them. Show people you know you deserve respect and they’ll give it to you.
♦️Lastly, college is mostly for academics but hey you aren’t just a student. You’re someone’s kid, friend, employee, advisor, etc. balance out playing those roles too.
So there were new scans of BNHA official art uploaded recently, and there was one where the girls were flocking over Todoroki. But what most people don’t know is that across them, simultaneously, SOME SERIOUS DEKUBOWL WAS BEING PLAYED.
NOT. I spent waaaay too much time on this, then gave up on the background.
I’ve always subscribed to the idea that these guys were a family of sorts. Miyamoto and Madame Boss were super close, Boss wasn’t great with with kids but was fond of Musashi and cared about her. Sakaki was a bit distant and was always training to be the next head of TR. Miyamoto would tease him about being so serious all the time.
Sakaki didn’t know Musashi well and Musashi didn’t really know him at all since she was so young. Little did she know she’d be working for him one day. I think this connection is a good reason as to why Sakaki hasn’t fired Musashi and her team yet.
A/N: Another Monty imagine is up, even thought it’s kind of short. I definitely need more Montgomery gifs because I struggle on looking for them everywhere. Anyways, I hope that you like this fluffy imagine, although the gif isn’t the appropriated one. Thank you for the support and the love guys, I am trying to write all the requests and, hopefully, I can go all through it. Thank you so much.
P.S: I am not accepting part 2 requests for my prompt imagines. Sorry.
Warning: (Y/E/C) is Your Eye Colour, kind of swearing
“Monty!” You shouted from the top of the bleachers to catch your boyfriend’s attention. Your school’s baseball team had their most important game of the year and you were obviously there to support your boyfriend and his friends, to show them that you were so proud of them, but mostly of Montgomery.
“Babe!” Montgomery’s eyes shone as he finally caught your mesmerizing and unique (Y/E/C) eyes. He was waiting for you since he started his practice, but you couldn’t skip your first period classes to watch him. Unluckily.
You waved at him as you started to run to the first row of the bleachers, obviously wanting to see your boyfriend better. You were so excited to hug him and, luckily, you weren’t separated by any barriers.
“Bye Monty!” Some girls flirtatiously winked and waved at your boyfriend, leaving the two of you to talk of your private things. You rolled your eyes as you felt a little bit jealous and irritated because of them. They were obviously having some irrelevant actions to tease you.
“Bye Monty!” You imitated the girls, murmuring in your most flirtatious voice, while rolling your eyes. You followed them as the space between them and Montgomery increased. You trusted your boyfriend, but you couldn’t stand seeing other girls flirting with him and trying to catch his attention.
“My princess is jealous!” Montgomery mocked you as he unleashed a teasing laugh. He wrapped his arms around your waist to greet you warmly. He loved it when you would show him your jealousy, he somehow felt important to someone.
“I’m not, Montgomery!” You harshly tapped his baseball helmet, miffed. You hated him whenever he would tease you like that, but you couldn’t help it and you couldn’t hide your jealousy.
“Such a pain in the ass!” He complained as he dealt with the effect of your harsh tap. The impact of the tap was loud enough to stun him for a second. You then gave him a death glare for how he called you, nevertheless you knew that he was just kidding.
Montgomery was a professional idiot and he would annoy people a lot, since it was his favourite hobby. He was sometimes fun to be with, but sometimes he would just need someone to talk to about his fit of rage. In the past though, he might have behaved in an inappropriate way towards your friends, but you always knew that he had a good and sweet heart. He would act like an asshole towards them, mostly with Alex and Tyler, but he was the kindest person that you’ve ever met. He would tease you sometimes, but he wouldn’t be Montgomery if he never did that.
“Monty, the game’s about to start!” You heard Jeff calling him from afar, playing with a baseball bat using his left hand. “Hi, (Y/N)!”
“Hey, Jeff!” You waved at him as you greeted him back. You noticed your boyfriend’s annoyed face, but he was so prideful that he would never tell you that. “Go on, little jealous prick, your game is starting.” This time it was your turn to tease him and you found it adorable when he rolled his eyes.
“Idiot!” He suddenly chuckled as he wrapped his arms around you tighter, shaking his jealousy off. He was happy that you were there, just how happy the sun was, it shone and it emanated heat cheerfully, making the weather fine, warm and calm.
“Go on!” You hugged him back, but you quickly broke the hug as you saw Jeff waiting for his team mate.
“Can I have a good luck kiss?” Montgomery flirtatiously whispered as he looked straight in your eyes, being a little bit serious this time. “I will try to do a home run for you, if ever.”
“Do your best, babe, that’s enough for me.” You winked at him and you quickly closed the gap between the two of you by giving him a kiss. You knew how much your kisses drove him crazy. Sometimes, he just needed some love too, nevertheless he would show to people that he was a tough and emotionless man.
The kiss behind you was calm and tender. It was one of those kisses that transmitted love, without any hints of lust. After all, you just wanted to wish him luck. The naughty and scorched kisses were reserved for the night, if his team ever won the significative match of the year.
“I love you, my princess.” Montgomery smiled, assuring you that it was useless to be jealous of the flirty girls before. You gave him your sweetest smile as you melted for his sincere words. Montgomery never lied to you and you knew that you could trust him.
“I love you too, my prince.” You sincerely answered back. “Go on and make your princess proud, like always.” You encouraged him and tapped softly his baseball helmet.
“I will.” He bit his lip and he winked at you. You proudly stood on the bleachers as you watched him running towards his friend, Jeff. You waved at them, being enthusiastic and positive as you already imagined Montgomery’s home run dedicated to you. You would be the loudest cheerleader of the team, but you would be Montgomery’s muse, of course.
After all, Montgomery was the best player for you and you knew that he was so determined to win, although you were already proud of him, just like when you were just one of his secret admirers, just like during that important match, just like always.
He was and he would always be your greatest pride.
[TRANS/INTERVIEW] GRAZIA Magazine April 2017 Edition - Himchan & Daehyun
B.A.P Himchan and Daehyun’s relationship is much like that of ‘Tom and Jerry’. It turns out that B.A.P fans have already compared them to such from a long time back. At the sight of them bickering without rest, (we) asked “(what if you guys) fight at this rate,” Himchan and Daehyun both answered at the same time, “this is playing!” and caused a big laugh.
Daehyun’s thighs vs Jongup’s butt If you absolutely had to have one…, Jongup’s butt. I’ll refuse anything that’s Daehyun’s (laughs).
Bungee jump vs Skydiving Ah… (I) have a lot of frights (I’m scared of it), (so I) give up
Kakaotalk vs Phone call Phone call. It’s annoying typing out texts.
Sleepiness vs Hunger, the thing that’s harder to resist is? Sleepiness. I have a lot of sleep
Party vs Time alone Party with friends and alcohol.
Straightforwardness vs Beating around the bush Straightforwardness. (I) don’t like it when there are misunderstandings because of words (talking).
Ballad vs Dance Still dance (for now). (I) like it more when (both) vocal and dance skills are distributed (and) displayed. Like Bruno Mars.
Mello vs SF Movie Mello. (I) originally (always) liked mello. Especially <A Moment to Remember>(, I) wanted over ten times.
It’s the first time doing a photoshoot with just you two, right? HC,DH (at the same time) yes.
Were the other members not jealous? DH They were making fun of us saying “We’re going to sleep in~” HC (They said that they’re) happy that they don’t have a schedule. But the other members are probably at the practice room right now as well.
(We’re) curious what time of conversation was passed on the way to the studio. HC The two (we) didn’t say a single word (laughs).
Really? (We) heard that (you) two are the most chatty, (I) guess not. HC It’s the truth. (But) in the morning(, we) two (both) don’t have words (don’t talk a lot). Normally(,) even if it’s just (us) two(, we’re) on fire (chatty).
What do you guys do to play normally? HC (I) drink alcohol (laughs). DH (I) eat outside, (and) eat inside the dorm as well. HC But because this friend ran away from the dorm…, DH Look at this hyung? Don’t misunderstand. (He) means that (I) became independent from the dorm recently (left the dorms to live on his own).
Yongguk, who left the dorm first, left with the reason that “the members don’t clean.” Why did Daehyun leave the dorm? DH It’s the same. If (you) see Himchan hyung and Jongup’s cleaning style(,) anyone would want to run away. For example(, they) file (their) clothes on the floor like pancake. (I) suffer from rhinitis and also have sensitive skin(,) so (I) try to be clean(,) but this is impossible in the dorm.
(I) also saw the video where Daehyun scolded Himchan saying to please stop wearing my (Daehyun’s) clothes without permission. How is it recently? DH Yesterday as well(, Himchan) hyung wore without my permission the shoes that (I) left in the dorm and was caught red handed. So I plan to wear Himchan’s clothes (without permission) as well.
(We’re) curious how Himchan will counterattack? HC Daehyun and Yongguk are almost at the level of a neat freak. Especially Daehyun is an FM (Field Manual) type (sticks to the set plan). (He says that) everything has to go the way that it’s been planned for (his) heart to be settled. Sometimes(,) it’s tiring because of that. DH I’ll reveal something again. (Himchan) hyung has a lot of sleep(,) so it’s difficult waking him up every time in the morning. HC Ah! I thought of something to counterattack. When (we) drink alcohol(,) Daehyun often gets up (and leaves) first. Even if serious conversation is being passed(,) if it becomes the time that (he) had set to go home(, he) leaves without looking back. At those times(,) it’s somewhat disappointing (sad/hurting). DH If I don’t get up (and leave) like that(, you guys) are going to keep holding (me) to stay.
(You guys are an) idol group, is it alright if (you) keep talking about drinking alcohol? DH It’s alright, (because) I quit drinking alcohol (laughs). HC Is that why (you) eat so much recently? DH That’s right. Until before the music video recording(, I) lost a lot of weight(,) but because of this(, I) gained 4kg more. HC Ah~ Diet! (I) want to stop eating chicken breast.
(You guys) must be on a diet. DH (We) two both really like eating(,) but during promotion period(, we) control our gluttony. (Our) styles are a little different. (Himchan) hyung likes spreading out a variety of food and eating it(, while) I go for one food. HC Because it’s important for an artist to have a variety of experiences (laughs).
(I) think to gain experiences(,) traveling is the best choice. Do (you) travel as well? DH Early this year(, I) went to Sapporo. It was (my) first out of country travel(, but) it was really good. (I went) shopping, ate good things, (and) saw snow.
What did Himchan do during the break? HC I went to New York and LA and came back. When B.A.P had a little over a year’s worth of break(, I) lived in New York for about three months(; but I) want to go back. (I) traveled around wherever my feet led me.
(We) heard that (you guys are) leaving again on a world tour soon. (And) that (you) plan to open a Seoul concert prior to it in the coming March 24~26. DH Last year(, we) opened large concerts at a lot of different countries(, but) this time(, we) plan to hold smaller concerts at less countries. Should (I) say that it’s closer to a fanmeeting? HC (We) planned a lot of time to communicate with the fans.
During the past winter(,) Bang Yongguk(,) who is both the leader as well as the oldest hyung(,) had to leave the team temporarily due to his panic disorder diagnosis. (We’re) glad that (you guys) could promote again as 6 (and) a whole again. DH (I) believed that Yongguk hyung will return healthy again, but (I) didn’t think that this day would come this quickly. HC (I feel) that finally now B.A.P has become perfect again. Not only just Yongguk, but it feels really empty when someone leaves the team.
Matching teamwork again after a long time(,) what type of conversation was passed? DH (We) each calmly welcomed (Yongguk) hyung’s return in our own ways. (I feel that) this type of method fits the best for someone that is manly and with little words like Yongguk hyung. HC Rather than words(,) it’s more important to show (him) trust with actions.
In place of Yongguk(,) Himchan(,) who is the same age as Yongguk(,) acted as the leader. HC There was a lot of burden. Because Yongguk and I have different methods of leading the team(,) our connection with the members fit well(, but since I) had to act alone as half of a leader. DH The two are complete opposites. If you compare it to a family(,) Yongguk hyung is the simple (and) brave (dependable) father(, while) Himchan hyung(,) should I say(,) like closer to the kind mother who shows plenty of affection? HC Perhaps because of that(,) the dongsaengs (the younger members) treated me like whatever (laughs). DH Hey, we worked harder to treat (you) more comfortably because you might suffer alone. Since Himchan hyung often plays along with the dongsaengs (the younger members) goofing around. Anyways(,) for B.A.P(,) both hyungs are necessary.
When did (you) feel Yongguk’s absence the most? HC When (we) got on the stage. (We were) worried that due to Yongguk’s absence the empty space might look big. DH Moreover(,) it was when we had released a full album and not a single(,) so it’s the truth that we were under confusion as well. But in times like this(, we) as five worked “really, honestly, (to our) greatest extent” the hardest. HC And that is why the result of the single album <Rose> released March 7th is really important. It is of course Yongguk’s return, (but there are also) a lot of situations tied in.
What type of situations are (you) talking about? HC Early this year(,) B.A.P faced our fifth anniversary. While happy in one part(, I was worried) that the days that B.A.P can promote as a whole is not that much left. Firstly(,) Yongguk and my age is now twenty eight…, DH This means that after about 2 years(,) the (Yongguk and Himchan) hyungs have to go to military. HC (I) don’t think that there has been a time that B.A.P as a whole has been able to complete a big picture. So that is why during the preparation of this album(, I) portrayed my opinion strongly more than before.
(We heard that) while choosing the title song(,) it was changed 4 times. In this step as well(,) was Himchan’s influence big as well? DH There were three songs in competing. At first(,) by the company’s suggestions(,) ‘Distopia’ was the prime candidate as the title song. But giving this and that different reasons(,) Himchan hyung persisted on ‘Diamond 4 Ya’. The other members were for ‘Wake Me Up’. HC (I) felt that ‘Distopia’ was too obvious (a choice), (and I) didn’t like the beginning arrangement of ‘Wake Me Up’. But if (B.A.P released) a trendy song like ‘Diamond 4 Ya’(, I felt that) it could be a chance for B.A.P to advance one step further.
In the end(, you guys are) promoting ‘Wake Me Up’. HC (I) quickly folded my stubbornness (gave up) (laughs). Instead(,) while arranging ‘Wake Me Up’, (I) strongly requested that “please have this be done this way, (and) that be done that way.”
Looking over B.A.P’s promotion records(,) there wasn’t a lot of the members’ personal promotions. Is there no plans to release albums as a solo or a unit(,) or to expand your areas toward acting or entertainment? DH (I) feel that it will remain this way for a while. Last year November, while promoting a song called ‘SKYDIVE’(, I) suddenly had this thought. “Ah, (I) should try working harder as a whole group!” HC There are still a lot of people that do not know about B.A.P’s existence (laughs). DH This is the first time I’m saying this here(, but). (I am) really thankful of Himchan hyung(,) and on another side sorry. (Himchan) hyung is talented in many ways in music as well as entertainment skills, but (Himchan) always puts team promotions first.
What part of Daehyun does Himchan think is outstanding? HC Acting, leading (a program), singing, dance, et cetera(,) whatever he does(, it feels) natural. (He also) gets along with whatever group he is with. So (I) often push him saying, “do something,” but Daehyun keeps taking his foot out (not going with it).
Are you following after (Himchan) hyung’s meaning to put team activities first? DH It’s more that (I) don’t think it’s time yet. (Perhaps that I want to) polish up a little more? There has been times that (I) attempted this and that while not completely prepared and ended up disappointed. HC But still starting from the end of this year(, we) plan to expand personal activities. Perhaps (we’ll) start from B.A.P’s main MC Youngjae.
From on forth(,) how will the two people(Himchan and Daehyun)’s life flow on? HC (I feel) firstly that (I) want to focus on this moment (now). (You) can’t tell what’ll happen even tomorrow(,) so how can (you) draw out a far future. DH (I) can’t think of anything else other than practicing so that (I) may become a closer to perfection as a singer. HC But(,) if there is one thing that (I) wish for(, it’s that) even after coming back from military service(,) that (I) want to (still) be a B.A.P member. DH It will be like that. You can believe it. Rather than words(,) I’ll show it through actions, like (Himchan) hyung!

Time to cleanse the palate with a bit of positive
One of the tropes that plagues, and has plagued, romance
fiction ever since the invention of the novel is the idea of female consent not
being necessary as long as the male is desirable and/or really wants her.
Often, the heroine will succumb either to her own desires or his, whether she
is entirely willing to do so or not, and that is framed as being analogous with
Well, two hundred years before Fifty Shades of Grey played fast and loose with consent issues, I
present to you the antithesis of this trope in Mr. Darcy of Pemberley.
Elizabeth Bennet, the heroine of Pride and Prejudice, receives two proposals of marriage that are
eerily similar, despite the outward differences of her two suitors. Mr. Collins
and Mr. Darcy both spring unexpected and unwelcome proposals of marriage on
her, calling to light her family’s lack of financial security and connection,
seeing themselves as condescending to offer for her, and being completely perplexed
by her refusal to accept them.
Elizabeth to Collins: You could not make me happy, and I am
convinced I am the last woman in the world who would make you so.
Elizabeth to Darcy: I had not
known you a month before I felt that you were the last man in the world whom I
could ever be prevailed on to marry.“
Elizabeth’s words leave no ambiguity for either gentleman:
she soundly rejects them both in a similar fashion. From this, readers may infer
that since Darcy and Elizabeth end up together, it is Darcy who is persistent
in his romantic intentions after Elizabeth has said “no.” But in fact, it is
Collins who refuses to take no for an answer, and Darcy who never oversteps his
The first thing Collins says after he hears her rejection is
that she cannot be serious in her refusal.
"I am not now to learn,” replied Mr. Collins, with a formal wave of the hand, “that it is usual with young ladies to reject the addresses of the man whom they secretly mean to accept, when he first applies for their favour; and that sometimes the refusal is repeated a second or even a third time. I am therefore by no means discouraged by what you have just said, and shall hope to lead you to the altar ere long.”
So elevated is his own sense of
self-worth that she has to explain to him that she did, in fact, mean what she
“Upon my word, sir,” cried Elizabeth, “your hope is rather an extraordinary one after my declaration. I do assure you that I am not one of those young ladies (if such young ladies there are) who are so daring as to risk their happiness on the chance of being asked a second time. I am perfectly serious in my refusal.”
What is the result? Collins still doesn’t take no for an answer, again:
“Were it certain that Lady Catherine would think so,” said Mr. Collins very gravely – “but I cannot imagine that her ladyship would at all disapprove of you. And you may be certain that when I have the honour of seeing her again, I shall speak in the highest terms of your modesty, economy, and other amiable qualifications.”
“Indeed, Mr. Collins, all praise of me will be unnecessary. You must give me leave to judge for myself, and pay me the compliment of believing what I say.”
"When I do myself the honour of speaking to you next on this subject, I shall hope to receive a more favourable answer than you have now given me; though I am far from accusing you of cruelty at present, because I know it to be the established custom of your sex to reject a man on the first application, and perhaps you have even now said as much to encourage my suit as would be consistent with the true delicacy of the female character.”
“Really, Mr. Collins,” cried Elizabeth with some warmth, “you puzzle me exceedingly. If what I have hitherto said can appear to you in the form of encouragement, I know not how to express my refusal in such a way as may convince you of its being one.”
must give me leave to flatter myself, my dear cousin, that your refusal of my
addresses is merely words of course. My reasons for believing it are briefly
these: – It does not appear to me that my hand is unworthy your acceptance, or
that the establishment I can offer would be any other than highly desirable. My
situation in life, my connections with the family of De Bourgh, and my
relationship to your own, are circumstances highly in my favour; and you should
take it into farther consideration that, in spite of your manifold attractions,
it is by no means certain that another offer of marriage may ever be made you.
Your portion is unhappily so small, that it will in all likelihood undo the
effects of your loveliness and amiable qualifications. As I must therefore
conclude that you are not serious in your rejection of me, I shall chuse to
attribute it to your wish of increasing my love by suspense, according to the
usual practice of elegant females.“
do assure you, sir, that I have no pretension whatever to that kind of elegance
which consists in tormenting a respectable man. I would rather be paid the
compliment of being believed sincere. I thank you again and again for the
honour you have done me in your proposals, but to accept them is absolutely
impossible. My feelings in every respect forbid it. Can I speak plainer? Do not
consider me now as an elegant female, intending to plague you, but as a
rational creature, speaking the truth from her heart.“
are uniformly charming!” cried he, with an air of awkward gallantry;
“and I am persuaded that, when sanctioned by the express authority of both
your excellent parents, my proposals will not fail of being acceptable.”
In fact, Collins only stops
pursuing Elizabeth when her father puts his foot down and backs her refusal. Pride and Prejudice is a comedy, and so
the tone is light on the surface, but beneath the satire is a very real, earnest
desire to communicate how often women’s words—even their consent—are dismissed
as fickle or inconsequential. Seeing our heroine not fleeing dramatically from
a villain, but pursued by an entitled man who doesn’t take her words seriously,
we feel Elizabeth’s sense of outrage and how belittling it is for Collins to
act this way.
By contrast, though we might imagine a love interest like
Darcy to be overcome with passion and try to make her his own by any means,
Darcy is remarkably restrained and respectful without ever losing his ardent
love for the woman he wants to marry. The first divergence of his response from
Collins’ occurs right after he has been rejected:
this is all the reply which I am to have the honour of expecting! I might,
perhaps, wish to be informed why, with so little endeavour at civility, I am thus rejected. But
it is of small importance.“
The wording here is important. He doesn’t demand that she
explain why she rejected him, but
rather why she was so impolite about doing so (since he has no knowledge of her
dislike of him). He continues to be honest about his objections to her family’s
behavior and place in the world, and to be angry at her for defending the
duplicitous Wickham, but he never tries to convince her that she was wrong in
rejecting him, even though he still views her as a social inferior.
After their heated conversation, Darcy leaves with an
apology that he has occupied her for so long:
have said quite enough, madam. I perfectly comprehend your feelings, and have
now only to be ashamed of what my own have been. Forgive me for having taken up
so much of your time, and accept my best wishes for your health and
This is a far cry from Collins following Elizabeth around
after the proposal and trying to go over her head to her parents for support.
But wait—doesn’t the love interest write Elizabeth a letter,
convincing her to give him another chance?
No. Both Darcy’s letter and its method of delivery are
respectful of Elizabeth’s boundaries and her refusal of him.
It should be noted that an unmarried gentlewoman receiving
letters from a man she was not engaged to resulted in scandal if it were ever
exposed. If Darcy had wanted to compel Elizabeth to marry him, he would only
have had to deliver the letter publicly, or through the post. Instead, he
delivers the letter in person, when they are alone in a park and there is no
chance of discovery. It is still a bit of a risk, though, and so he asks (not
demands) that she read it:
“Will you do me the honour
of reading that letter?“
Right from the beginning, Darcy reassures Elizabeth that he
is not trying to impose on her or get her to accept him after she has made her
"Be not alarmed, madam, on receiving this letter,
by the apprehension of its containing any repetition of those sentiments or
renewal of those offers which were last night so disgusting to you.
While it is more than apparent that her rejection stung and
he is still in love with her, he never brings up the subject of the proposal
again—the contents are a defense of the charges she had laid against his
character, as well as a warning against Wickham for her own safety. He doesn’t
ask for a second chance or demand she reconsider her words, even in light of
this new information. Moreover, he trusts her with the knowledge of his
sister’s near-elopement with Wickham (which could cause a scandal if
discovered), thus risking as much by delivering the letter as Elizabeth does by
accepting it. In every way, he trusts her judgment and keeps her wishes in
When they meet again at Pemberley, Darcy is trying to reform
his behavior. He is cordial to her tradesman uncle and aunt, and has divested
himself of the haughtiness that prevented her from seeing his true worth
initially. Darcy does not give himself permission to pursue Elizabeth as a
result of this change in character; it is only after they have met and talked
cordially that he asks her, not to speak with him alone, but to meet his
sister. In fact, he resists making romantic overtures for the duration of the
visit, which ends abruptly when Elizabeth discovers her sister’s elopement with
Wickham. And even there, when she and Darcy are accidentally alone during her
distress, he makes no move to use the occasion as an excuse to “comfort” her
with his advances. His reaction is, in fact, quite the opposite:
am afraid you have been long desiring my absence, nor have I anything to plead
in excuse of my stay, but real, though unavailing, concern.”
Another opportunity arises for Darcy to compel Elizabeth to
marry him, this time out of gratitude. Unable to see Elizabeth so wretched, he
finds Lydia and Wickham in London and, at great expense, convinces them to
marry. He saves not only her sister’s reputation but that of her entire family.
Yet rather than use that as an example to Elizabeth of what a good person he
is, he forbids her aunt and uncle from mentioning that it was he who saved the
Bennets’ good name. Elizabeth doesn’t even know he was involved until Lydia
thoughtlessly gives the game away (after she, too, was sworn to secrecy).
How then, do Lizzy and Darcy get together? It is Elizabeth
herself who gives Darcy a reason to believe her opinion of him has improved.
During a verbal duel with Darcy’s formidable aunt, she comes out the winner and
point-blank refuses to give Lady Catherine a promise not to pursue Mr. Darcy.
Lady Catherine petulantly tries to cut the problem off at the source by
relating everything to her nephew. It works about as well as you’d expect.
for her ladyship, its effect had been exactly contrariwise.
"It taught me to hope,“ said he,
"as I had scarcely ever allowed myself to hope before. I knew enough of
your disposition to be certain, that had you been absolutely, irrevocably
decided against me, you would have acknowledged it to Lady Catherine, frankly
What prompts Darcy to renew his offer of marriage is nothing
more or less than evidence that Elizabeth had seen his change of heart and
“You are too generous
to trifle with me. If your feelings are still what they were last April, tell
me so at once.My affections
and wishes are unchanged; but one word from you will silence me on this subject
Above is Darcy’s second proposal. After hearing her first
rejection, he takes her at her word, respectfully gives her information that
might have led her to mistaken conclusions about him, leaves even before he is
asked to, reforms his own behavior, never takes advantage of their being alone
to make unwanted advances, assists her and her family without taking any
credit, and once he has seen enough signs to think she might accept him, renews
his offer once and only once. If she says no again, unlike Collins, he will not
continue to pester her or seek her out. He will not try to convince her that
her decision was wrong. It is a sad statement on society that this is a
remarkable thing, no less in the real world than in fiction, and all too
prevalent in heroes of romance even two hundred years later. There is no
shortage of love interests who mistake passion for permission, conflict for
consent, and adversity for flirtation—but there is also no excuse for this to
continue, particularly now. If a novel published in 1813 can understand the letter and spirit of
consent, I think we can do better in our own time.
I really want Evangeline and Ren Allsbrook to bond. I like to imagine that he sees her looking at her scars and knows how awful she must be feeling but points out the scarring on his face (courtesy of Aelin). I like to imagine him exploring the castle with her and pointing out the paintings of Aelin’s ancestors (and of Aelin when she was a child). I like to imagine that he and Evangeline poke fun at Darrow for being so serious all the time behind his back (Darrow acts annoyed, but secretly enjoys seeing Evangeline enjoying herself). I like to imagine that Evangeline thinks of Terrasen as her home.
My top priority is the boys’ well being. Their health and happiness. Naturally, like a lot of us, I was worried when I got word of the upcoming tour.
But boycotting the tour would be nothing but destructive for them. It would really deflate their spirits, and it would be very difficult to get tours for them in the future.
Let’s not jump to conclusions and respond with such harsh actions until we know more information. It’s not called LOE, it’s possibly just a 5-city stop or 10-date tour. They probably just wanted to do SOMETHING for the fans around LOE time, because they love us.
SO STOP WITH YOUR BULLSHIT AND JUST LOVE AND SUPPORT THEM, BECAUSE THAT’S WHY WE ARE HERE. STOP MAKING THEM FEEL BAD.
Alright im gonna put my own analysis of that last page because i got a lot of gross sexual comments on the page and i want to establish some things about elliot’s reaction
Like so many people are like “why isnt he jumping for joy?? he’s hot!” like look. we all saw in chapter 2 that he has a fond attachment to his scars. even ones that don’t have a pleasant origin. Because those are an anchoring point in how he defines himself, those are his stories, his memories of how he overcame so much and still made it through. He knows his body wasn’t the best and he definitely did not like the way he looked at all (especially with all his scars). but at this point he had come to accept himself, accept his scars, accept his body to a point where he could take his sweater off comfortably without feeling like he had to hide himself.
and then he learns that he died, might not even be human, is completely out of his depth and his anchor points in which he grounds his identity in is replaced with something he isn’t sure he even wants anymore.
