before she understands what it means

Hold on, I wanna talk about the cherubs and their shipping and how it relates to the whole “Human vs Alien” romance ordeal and how quadrants are a metaphor for human sexuality. I covered this more here.

I’m gonna start with Calliope because I’ve covered her before. While talking to Roxy, Callie says she doesn’t know if she’s capable of having red feelings, even though she would like to, so the topic fascinates her and she expresses it through fantasies of red relationships. She’s been pressured to believe that she, as a cherub, should have black feelings, because that’s what would be normal of her, be she never seemed to like the concept of black romance to begin with. She doesn’t understand red romance because she was never really taught about it, that doesn’t mean she isn’t capable of those emotions (much like John and black romance).

Calliope is the equivalent to a gay human who has always been fascinated by the idea of gay relationships but doesn’t think that they’re gay, because they were never educated, but has always been pressured by society to believe that it isn’t normal to have those feelings.

Now for Caliborn. He’s the inverse, like many things with each other. Caliborn loves black romance and is disgusted by red romance. He’s seen bringing up blackrom several times and explains it to Jane as what’s normal for his species. He sees red relationships as “pornography”, as if they are something scandalous and dirty. Dirk describes this as Caliborn “Fetishizing his disgust for it”. Make no mistake, he does like it, but for the wrong reasons. This is further driven home by the fact that he starts to draw amateur yaoi.

Caliborn is the equivalent to a straight human who fetishizes gay relationships because they dare disgusted by the concept, but find it sinful and hot. He’s basically the equivalent of a yaoi fangirl, who sees a gay couple holding hands as dirty, and thus something to get off on.

The outlets for both of the cherubs are their shipping, see how Calliope handles hers with respect and finds genuine interest in the topic, while Caliborn demands pornography and treats it like something dirty.

  • What she says: im fine
  • What she means: ive been waiting literally nearly four fucking years for season two of attack on titan. attack on titan first aired way before pepe existed, and season two came later than his meme's death. most people think waiting one or two years for a new season to start is painful, but do you understand how painful waiting four fucking years for season two of a show to come out? no, you don't. dont give me that "it took how many years for finding dory though" bullshit because nobody was anticipating it. finding fucking dory was never postponed multiple times. ive been suffering the postponed season two for four years. you better believe im not fucking fine.

If you have a complicated relationship with your mother because of abuse or neglect, you don’t have to feel guilty regardless of how much or how little you choose to interact with her.

I know there’s a lot of pressure to acknowledge her even if she’s hurt you badly. If you choose to (or wish you could) keep your distance or even end your relationship with her, you’re not a bad child or ungrateful or mean.

If for any reason you do something nice for her, that doesn’t mean you give up your right to be angry or hurt by what she did before that. It doesn’t mean you give up your right to keep your distance or even end your relationship with her later on.

You don’t owe her. But it’s complicated sometimes, I understand. Just do your best to be gentle with yourself, and try to remember that you didn’t deserve what happened. You have always deserved care and respect.

I believe Spencer’s twin is coming.

In this post I want to give a list of reasons why Twincer is my prime suspect as AD. I know a lot of these ‘clues’ come from interviews, but they’re still really convincing for me at least. I’ve definitely missed some of the clues from within the show because they’re not as easy to spot - we need to know for sure if Twincer is happening, then we can dig further. (The fun won’t instantly stop once the finale airs.) But for now, enjoy these, and at the end, I give my theory as to the motive.

Please note: none of this is overly new. This is just the summation of everything we’ve been talking about on my blog for the past couple months. I wanted to put all the ideas into one post, rather than 31529 mini posts scattered here and there. I will be updating this as we find more.

  1. The famous airport scene from 715.
We all already think it’s weird that "Spencer" asked Ezra to not tell anyone he saw her there with Wren. What’s weirder, is the fact that Wren and “Spencer” were arguing. Amongst muffle, I heard Spencer say "stop calling me that" (let me know if you heard differently). Did Wren have a slip-of-the-tongue moment and call her Spencer rather than the twin’s real name?
  2. Dr. Cochran’s story is very telling.
We all already know the ambiguous implication that Mary had more than two babies, because Dr. Cochran said he dealt with “two of Mary’s babies”. What’s more interesting is the second baby he dealt with. The first baby (Charlotte) he gave to Jessica. He said that the second baby that he delivered was placed in family county services. This could not have been Spencer, since Spencer was delivered to Veronica within 5 minutes of birth. So, who was that second baby that was placed in family services? I believe it was Spencer’s twin. Why? Dr Cochran referred to that second baby as “underweight but tenacious” - lo and behold, the next episode, Toby calls Spencer tenacious. This was the writers foreshadowing the similarities between this second baby, and Spencer. Twins.
  3. We all know Hanna’s ‘dream’ in 701.
It makes no sense that Hanna was able to dream ‘Spencer’ saying the name A.D. since Hanna was kidnapped before these initials were even revealed. Perhaps Hanna was visited by Twincer; the one holding her captive.
  4. A.D. needs to stand for something.
Spencer’s twin could literally have the initials A.D., since we know she would be Mary Drake’s child. Her first name would start with A and the D would stand for Drake.
  5. Brendan and Ian both confessed to being confused by the identity of A.D.
They needed the backstory to understand it. Is that because they had no idea who has the name “Alex Drake” (for example) ?
  6. Tyler said before 7B aired that “you’ve never met AD. You kind of have. You’ll know what I mean”.
This can be interpreted in two ways: you’ve never met Twincer but since you know Spencer, you kind of know who AD is. Or. You’ve seen Twincer over the years, but thought it was Spencer. Either way, Tyler’s comment screams twin-theory to me. This could apply to any twin theory, but in this context, I’m using it for Spencer.
  7. Ian said (0:57) that “fans will be satisfied to a point. Right when it seems it’s gonna be really great, it might do a little [downwards hand motion]”….
That cheeky smile on Ian’s face when he said “it seems it’s gonna be really great”… what could be greater than a liar being AD? Ian could be referring to the fact that they initially show us Troian under the hoodie, making us think Spencer is AD. Then, after commercial break, they will reveal it’s just her twin, hence the “it might do a little [downwards hand motion]”. We will be satisfied to a point, he said. It’ll start off amazing by thinking it’s Spencer, oh wait, it’s another twin.
  8. Ashley said (0:14) that she didn’t even know the A.D. reveal is possible.
Because she did not expect a second pair of twins to come along?
  9. “It’s like there are two of you living in this house. You, and you’re evil twin, and we’re not sure who’s coming down to breakfast".
said Veronica to Spencer in 423. Foreshadowing at it’s finest.
  10. Spencer doesn’t remember this flashback.
Was it her twin? And oh how coincidental, that the writers tell us a time Spencer doesn’t remember, in the same scene Veronica makes the above comment about Spencer’s “evil twin”.
  11. “Where are they?”
said Mary as she entered the Hastings house (flashback from 717). Who is they? The twins? She proceeded to say that Spencer is the only good thing she’s ever made. Maybe Mary knows Spencer’s twin is evil, and is neglecting her.
  12. “You look very much like your sister. Almost like twins”.
said Mary to Spencer in 701. The writers wanted us to think that Mary was talking about Spencer and Melissa, since Mary was holding a picture of the half-sisters. But, were the writers, and therefore Mary, hinting towards Twincer? Is Mary being blackmailed/forced (by Peter?) to keep quiet on Twincer, and she had a slip-of-the-tongue moment here?
  13. Marlene is very aware of the Twincer theories.
Back in 2014 she said that Troian sent her an online fan theory regarding Spencer having a twin who is A. Marlene was blown away by it and she thought it was a very well thought out plan with detailed evidence across the series. Watch from 1:35. Whilst you may be saying “there’s NO WAY Marlene spoilt her own show’s ending in an interview!!” - I feel like she had no idea the show would go on for 7 seasons, and once they got renewed, she panicked. “Shit, we need a new Uber A. Let’s go with that brilliant fan theory Troian sent me”. She probably regrets making this interview now. You can tell her passion for Twincer in this interview. She talks so damn highly of it.
  14. Marlene has said that the person who plays A.D. had known for a while.
We know that Marlene told Troian the entire ending of the show years in advance. “Just like I had story time with Marlene, you all now get story time with Pretty Little Liars” said Troian.
  15. The girl in the coffin in the opening has the exact same black puffy shirt as Spencer.
  16. Why does it seem that A.D. is always going after the Hastings?
Why shoot Spencer, out of all the liars? Why demand Aria to plant the audio device in the Hastings? Why not ruin the Marin household? The jealous twin wants her ungrateful sister dead, hence the shooting, and the jealous daughter is angry she never got adopted. Too much of the story is Hastings-oriented.
  17. “They’re all some pretty. Good. Theories.”
Was Janel’s response to being asked about the Spencer-twin theories. (22:20)
  18. And, I’ll just leave this here. Good one @prettylittlesessions !
  19. “Spencer’s” weird comments in 718.
In 718 “Spencer” says to Toby “you know what its like to be the outsider. Removed from friends and family”. What made her say this? Nothing was said or done in 718 to prompt our Spencer to say this.
  20. Keegan said there are no more Spoby kisses in 7B.
“I can honestly say that there is not another Spoby kiss.” Yet - there was one in 718. Either Keegan lied, or that was Spencer’s twin. (10:15)
  21. “It’s somebody you have seen.”
says Marlene in regards to who AD is. Was she talking about the Spoby kiss in 710, which Twincer referred to in 718 when she kissed Toby again? Marlene was very careful to avoid saying “it’s someone you KNOW”. We don't “know” Twincer. But, we have seen her.
  22. “That’s not the Spencer I know”
said Toby in 718. Writers are foreshadowing.

Setting all this aside, I want to add my theory on the backstory and motive:

  • Twincer, who’s name is A_____ Drake, was born in Radley, as Dr. Cochran told us in 7A.
  • Twincer was raised in Radley - not because she needed to be at a psychological hospital, but as a form of daycare, because Mary was deemed an unfit mother, and also she kept Twincer a secret from Peter… he already hated her (to the point of planning her murder, later on) enough for having one baby together, imagine Peter’s reaction to having twins.
  • There, Twincer met and bonded with her sister Charlotte. Charlotte became Twincer’s only friend. (Twincer might even be Bethany, since we already know of this bond between Bethany and Charlotte, and how Bethany was drawing Charles being taken away by a monster. But for this theory, let’s just forget Bethany for a second.)
  • When Mona came to Radley and started telling Charlotte about everything she did to her sister, Charlotte and Twincer wanted to play. They wanted a turn at harassing Spencer and her friends.
  • For Charlotte, as we know, it was the feeling of finally succeeding at something in life that made the game her drug. For Twincer, it was something far darker.
  • Harassing Aria, Hanna, Emily and Alison is all about driving a wedge between the girls. Twincer wants to break up the girls. Turn them against each other. Hopefully by throwing fire at the girls, they will break up, ultimately, to ruin Spencer’s life. Again, jealousy. Twincer’s plan is backfiring because it’s exactly A’s threats that makes Spencer say “we need each other more than ever” and “always stick together”. The writers keep making the point of SPENCER being the one to make the comments about “always” sticking together. Twincer cannot break Spencer and her bitches. This is fueling Twincer’s anger. Nothing is working.
  • That’s why AD/Twincer recently shot Spencer. “If I can’t break the girls up to ruin Spencer’s life, why not just become Spencer?” Twincer shot Spencer in an attempt to assume her identity and squeeze her way into the loving friendship group that she could never crack. “These girls are so loyal to each other… they don’t even break up after even my threats. Damn, I want to be a part of this. It’s my turn to live a happy life. You had your turn Spencer.”
  • Note: I do not believe that AD has been operating since season 1. Mona’s time as A is completely independent from Charlotte and Twincer’s story. Mona started the game, and now someone is ending it, and she wants to know who. Charlotte and Twincer are their own duo; their own A-team, which stemmed as a result of Mona coming to Radley. Charlotte revealed herself - next up in the A team is Twincer, who is carrying on the game she once played with her sister.

I know a lot of my followers are American and maybe don’t know what’s going on with Scotland/Brexit/independence referendums, and I’m really fucking mad about it, so I wanted to make this post.

Theresa May, the UK Prime Minister, has told us we aren’t allowed to have another Independence Referendum before 2019. Scotland’s first minister, Nicola Sturgeon, had been meeting with the PM to try and negotiate a suitable time for us to take another vote on Independence, and she (along with most Scots I would think, I know I am) is shocked that the PM has turned around and said no to a vote before 2019.

Why do Scotland want another Independence Referendum? We want one because Scotland voted to REMAIN in the EU. We don’t want to leave, and if we stay a part of the UK we will be forced to leave the EU. We don’t want this to happen, we’d rather be a part of the EU than be joined with England any longer. That’s the shortest way to say it, EU > UK.

Why 2019? Nicola Sturgeon and other members of the SNP (Scottish National Party, the party that holds the most chairs in Scotland) have been thinking about making autumn 2019 a good time to hold another referendum. This means, if we chose to leave the UK, Brexit wouldn’t be in full effect yet and we could happily stay in the EU. It’s also far enough away to give everyone a good amount of time to campaign, and think about how they want to vote.

Why has Theresa May said no to 2019? May has said no because she wants to give Scotland an ultimatum. Basically by saying no to 2019 she’s telling us, sure, you can have another vote after that time all you want, but you can’t have it before the whole UK is already out of Brexit. She’s done this because she thinks that us Scots should give Brexit a chance and see what it’s like before we go leaving the UK. It also means Scotland would have to go through the hassle of joining the EU again, and she thinks this will deter us from voting for Independence.

Why is all of this a problem, and y u so mad about it Moody? Well, friends, lemme tell you a thing. First of all Theresa May is the leader of the Conservative Party, a party which out of 59 available House of Commons seats in Scotland, only hold 1. They hold 1 seat. And they’re dictating to us when we can and cannot hold a vote. Forget that she’s the PM for a second. Think about that. 1 out of 59 seats in Scotland, and she’s telling us how to run our country and thinks she understands what the Scottish people want? No.

Secondly, she’s made this decision before she even hears what the SNP have to say on the matter. The SNP are holding a meeting on Wednesday (from me posting this, next week) to talk about another referendum. May doesn’t even know what the SNP fully want to do yet because they haven’t had their meeting yet, and without hearing the SNPs general opinion post-meeting, she has said no. Jumping the gun a bit, huh?

Thirdly, it’s not up to her, it’s up to the Scottish people. I mean sure, she’s the PM, she’s said no to 2019, that was her decision. But what exactly is that achieving? Other than making it harder for Scotland to join back with the EU after we leave the UK. Nothing. She just doesn’t want to deal with Brexit and Scotland leaving the UK at the same time. Learn to multitask, PM, or hand your job over to someone who can.

Scotland want independence because we are sick and tired of having to follow everything England does. The entirety of Scotland voting one way could be overruled by the entirety of London. Just London, one city. We have less say than one English city. We’re sick of this bullshit. Did you know that England’s nuclear weapons program, Trident, is located in Scotland? That’s right, just in case someone decides to bomb us to get rid of our weapons, they put them in Scotland so they’d bomb us instead of England. Tough shit on you if we get our independence, looks like you’ll be having to deal with your own nuclear weapons from now on. Get that shit away from us.

I am angry because my country doesn’t have a say in its own future, I am angry because the English government that rules over us doesn’t give a crap about us, I am angry because we are treated as worthless ‘lesser Englishmen’, when our culture and people are entirely different to England’s. I am angry because I’m tired of the English government shitting all over my country. Fuck you, we want Independence, and delaying it won’t stop it from happening.

I just had the most random thought that I now really want to happen.

let me set the scene. the squad is at school, as usual, and marinette, for some reason, has alya’s phone. (wouldn’t put it past her to take someone’s phone considering her track record ayy lmao) she’s taking selfies on it, some super cute but most just pulling incredibly dumb faces.

then, on the cusp of one hella gorgeous photo where she looks like an actual angel, sunshine boy™ adrien agreste comes over from behind with a friendly and slightly awed* “hey marinette!”
(*he’s a one woman man, of course, but dang. she looked real cute in that almost selfie. can ya really blame him?)

she sees him in the phone screen and she’s shook. her expression transforms into one of pure unadulterated joy and somewhere in the seconds that pass instantaneously and yet feel like hours, she captures a photo right then. he’s in the background, looking incredible as always, and her eyes have just shifted toward him, and her expression is lovestruck. like, undeniably so. but something happens in the moment that prevents her from even noticing or looking back on the photo, and she gives alya her phone back later without having even seen said glorious selfie.

then alya. oh, alya. being the wonderful friend and impeccable wingman she is, she spams the squad group chat (bc don’t even try to tell me they don’t have one) with several of marinette’s selfies, pretending to be mad about mari taking her phone. but they’re all stunning photos, of course. and (, of course, ) the one is included. adrien sees the photo and.. oh dang. has this always been a thing? has this always been her beautiful reaction to simply seeing him? is there a reason she’s so happy? and how has he literally never noticed such elation on her face before?

he messages nino immediately. ‘dude. this photo. marinette looks really happy to see me?? I mean, it looks like she does anyway- maybe I’m reading into it. does this mean anything? is she normally this excited to see her friends?’

nino’s reply is instantaneous.

‘dude. DUDE.’

'what?’

'are you actually that blind? pay attention to her expressions and mannerisms the next time u see her. hopefully you’ll understand. we’ll see.’

he follows nino’s instruction and after surprisingly very little time at all, it hits him like a ton of bricks.

she does not, in fact, act this way around all her friends.

that spark of light in her eyes, that elated smile; those are marinette specials reserved for very few things. raspberry macarons, fashion, and apparently:
himself.

“plagg, I think.. I think marinette dupain-cheng likes me.”

characterization, filters, and characterization to be found in the lack of filters

Talking about Jane earlier got me thinking, you know, Jane is not at all the only character that uses this device to show off the less desirable traits lurking in the psyche of all these damaged teens. Like. So many characters have these lurking deep seated issues that stay hidden deep down because the characters are pretty good at projecting a less damaged and more together version of themselves.

If that sounds familiar it’s because it’s a fucking outrageously relatable quality and part of what makes the Homestuck characters RESONATE so much. Why they feel like they have all this dimension and depth that makes us grab on to them and never want to let go.

I’m just going to run through some examples here while I’m thinking about it. The first OBVIOUSLY since thinking about her is what got me going on this – Jane. Crockertier Jane removing the layers of self-imposed filter on Jane’s festering insecurity, entitlement issues, jealousy and so on. I’ve already talked enough about that today.

Grimbark Jade! You notice Jade says what she’s thinking WAY more easily while she’s mind controlled, and she still sounds like herself – she sounds kinda like she does when she’s owning Karkat repeatedly, doesn’t she? Because angry Jade has that same effect of pushing her nice girl filter aside and letting the angry witch (not a cutesy slur, her literal witch class) within fly free. Grimbark Jade tells us that behind that nice girl front Jade Harley actually thinks some pretty uncharitable thoughts sometimes, she just keeps a tight fucking lid on it because – well, don’t most people? Relatable as fuck.

Jadesprite! Since we’re talking about Jade anyway. Jade likes to think she has everything together, that her visions from Skaia and her scientific prowess and the tools her Grandpa left her are more than enough to handle everything that comes her way, she’s independent, she’s capable, she’s certainly never LONELY oh no of course not certainly never CRUSHINGLY OVERWHELMED by the responsibility of her own existence nah those are weak feelings for weak girls who aren’t as awesome as Jade! And then – Jadesprite. Why do you think Jade got SO ANGRY at Jadesprite? Because she was being confronted with something she knew deep down was a reflection of weaknesses in herself (totally normal ones that her later arc reinforced were a mistake to pretend weren’t there – Loneliness and fear and regret are all tied in with Jade’s character progression and learning how to deal with those things is where I imagine her arc would have gone if Homstuck’s ending hadn’t been the literary equivalent of chopping off a limb and cauterizing the wound.) Jadesprite is Jade without the filter of implacable strength Jade imposes on herself to fuckin cope with living on a hell island with the stuffed corpse of her grandpa who she grew up thinking literally killed himself at BEST.  god damn

Davesprite. Dave Strider with a slow long agonizing depressing arc wherein he realizes his coolkid persona won’t make anyone think of him as their best friend anymore, and in the absence of the security that persona afforded him when he was The Real Dave he has no idea what to do with himself. He’s lost, he feels aimless, untethered, incapable of being happy – and yes, Davesprite is his own character, but you can still infer a lot from Dave’s character about him – for instance, how he completely ties his self worth up in how useful he is to his friends or how worthwhile they find him and has no idea how to even BEGIN the hard journey of looking within for worth instead of relying eternally on changeable external sources. Davesprite is Dave not WITHOUT a filter but certainly with a VERY DIFFERENT one.

Homestuck does this with almost every single damn character on its roster at some point. Shows a version of them with a different or lesser or completely missing filter to highlight flaws and issues and internal struggles of all kinds.

Homestuck is a damn deep dive into an exercise about analyzing nature vs nurture and what we’re predisposed to do and what comes from within and what is put upon us by forces out of our control, and how that line is blurry and messy and everyone has the potential to be either the worst or best version of themselves. Even Caliborn was given a choice. Hussie-The-Character explained it to him at great painstaking length.

There are so many other examples. Jasprose is Rose without a filter, and the way Jasprose goes around gleefully calling every hot girl she sees hot and delighting smugly in knowing more than just about anyone else and lording over the information and playing smarter-than-thou games – that tells us a LOT about Rose! A LOT about what sort of urges Rose tamps down on every day in an effort to just be fucking cool!

I bet you have things like this with yourself, right? Doesn’t everyone?

Tricksters! Look at how they act. They’re not themselves but there is plenty to glean from them. Jane immediately goes for Jake, the object of her desire, to pursue an exaggerated version of her idealized future. Trickster Jake is a passive fucking ragdoll who immediately acquiesces to everything everyone demands of him because their happiness becomes his happiness – Jake hates confrontation, so Trickster Jake is just a fucking doormat. Roxy goes for Jake AND Dirk because divorced from the guilt she normally feels for harboring desire toward either one of them she knows exactly what she wants! ETC ETC. Of course they would never do any of this shit if they weren’t high as balls and incapable of understanding the meaning of the word “consequence.” That’s the point. Seeing what they do in this situation is an interesting window in!

Brain Ghost Dirk is a version of Jake (yes, of Jake, not Dirk) without a specific filter Jake runs his own personality through before he’s comfortable presenting it to others, and you’ll notice, it’s EXTREMELY biting and critical sometimes. Jake knows what he’s about. He just buries it most of the time because that’s easier than dealing with it.

I could seriously keep going.

Homestuck loves to show us what our favorites do and say and ARE when basic filters go out the window. Those filters that most of us employ to make other people believe we don’t all have intrusive thoughts or bad desires or just plain old weaknesses we’re ashamed of and want to keep hidding at costs – or that we occasionally think things or think about doing things we would never ever ever do in real life are demolished or changed or temporarily suspended.

It’s brilliant tbh. It lets us see facets of characters that would normally never really get full spotlight reveals by their very nature, especially with protagonists.

Vriska vs (Vriska) – (Vriska) is just Vriska with some more self awareness and more willingness to let down her self-imposed filter and actually examine the shit she wants and why because watching Aranea fuck the timeline over out of motivations eerily similar to her own hardcore shook her enough to develop in that direction. (which makes sense since HER original motivations are copying Mindfang who IS alt-aranea lmao I love Homestuck)  (Vriska) is still Vriska, it’s just a very very different lens through which to view her character.

blah blah blah blah etc there are so many examples

anyway I love Homestuck and good character writing what up

I like the kinda girl that’ll give me a key to her place & tell me to be in her bed before she gets home or else & she actually means it. Someone who will put me in my place when I’m trying to be cheeky as fuck but nah she won’t let me get away with it. I need a girl who will talk me out of my angry self destructive decisions because she knows deep down I do what I do because I’m hurting & I don’t want to admit it. I need a girl who understands my loud mouth attitude is only a defensive layer of protection for the extremely soft & affectionate person she’s going to big spoon to sleep that night.

“Sangwoo, can you come here for a second?” The boy looked up from where he was drawing in the back of the class and locked eyes with you. He was sat alone in the corner, away from the other kids and it broke your heart to see him like this. Sangwoo was usually active with the other kids and used to always participate in class, but lately he had been pulling away from everyone.

The boy cleaned up the items he had been using and he slowly got up from where he was sitting. The sluggish movements of the six year old worried you and a frown came across you face. His eyes seemed to be locked on the ground as he walked towards you, not wanting to make eye contact. The action seemed to be his way of hiding from you and you sighed, slowly crouching down to his height.

“Sangwoo, do you have something you want to tell teacher about?” You asked. You hoped the words would be enough encouragement for the boy to speak but the words he said weren’t the ones you had been looking for. You became even more worried as you heard the words that left his mouth and you wondered if something was going on at home.

“I’m not in trouble, am I?” Sangwoo questioned. His tone made your heart clench and you quickly shook your head, cancelling all fears of his. He seemed to calm down a little bit at the fact that he wasn’t in trouble.

Poor Rapunzel. Look at your trauma, at your damage. You think that people can’t possibly understand the depth of your love, because the day after you turned eighteen, you found out that the one person you thought had loved you your whole life didn’t actually care about you at all. That every barb she stuck you with then laughed off was intended to inflict a wound.

Now, you’re stuck with this complex, thinking that every little thing you do that might go against that love you have means that they don’t understand it at all. You rejected Eugene’s proposal, so he must think you don’t love him. You failed to notice that Cassandra didn’t want you in the competition because she wanted to garner respect away from you, so you think she doesn’t know you respect her.

How many more people are going to hear this sort of sentiment from you? Don’t you know that anger and disappointment doesn’t wash away the love? You poor, abused girl.

Bucky Barnes x reader

Notes: trigger warnings! Implications of sexual abuse, mentions of torture, swearing, injuries, memory loss, recuperating, fluff, angst and obviously, eventually: smut.

Summary: Bucky comes back from a mission, not remembering who he is or who anyone else is. He doesn’t remember Steve, Natasha or the woman he loves. She does immediately catch his eye, though. He thinks she’s the most beautiful woman he’s ever seen, and he’s not afraid to say it in front of people he doesn’t know anyway. What does he have to lose? As far as he knows, he has nothing. On top of being somewhere he doesn’t remember ever being and being stared at by people who seem to know him, but he doesn’t know in return, he hears a voice in his own head. Because, of course, he must be insane.

A/N: Here we are! The sequel series to Remedy :) I was gonna go somewhere else with this, but it kinda hit me out of nowhere and I thought this could be as sweet and cute as it could be heartbreaking and funny at the same time. Get ready for some awkward situations (and boners), people!

I don’t know where I am, but I feel no threat, not from the man in the blue combat-suit next to me, not from the red head that’s next to him, holding his hand and looking equally sad as the woman before me. Not even from the man with the glasses and a doctor’s coat on my left. They all look at me as if they know me, and.. like me? They look nice enough, I guess. But I can’t help but stare at the woman standing only a feet away from me, tears in her eyes. She looks so sad.

Yeah I know this is going back, but a lot of things in this episode always bothered me, and hardly anyone ever seems to mention them.

One of the things I feel gets totally overlooked or brushed aside both within the episode itself and by fans,is that Amethyst was actively encouraging Peridot to make jabs at the other Gems.  It  started out as a single mildly frustrated comment about “permafusion” from Peridot and her venting about her lack of understanding,  and probably wouldn’t have gone any further, but  then Amethyst started egging her on.

Also don’t forget Amethyst found Peridot insulting the other Gems, including Steven really funny up until a negative comment was made about her. Then suddenly Peridot was wrong, being mean, and had to apologise to Amethyst and ONLY to Amethyst (Steven got made fun of too, and at Amethyst’s request  "do Steven next!!“ ) .

Peridot at this stage was still new to Earth social skills and what is and isn’t acceptable behaviour on Earth , so  I can understand why she was confused by Amethysts sudden angry reaction when she was doubled over laughing at similar comments made just moments before.

Don’t get me wrong, I like Amethyst, but I feel like she was being a total hypocrite here , and  her own blame and behaviour was never, and has never, even been acknowledged, let alone addressed.

Yes, Peridot was wrong and needed to apologise, and to Steven as well, really, not just to Amethyst,  but it wasn’t exactly unprovoked and Amethyst was in the wrong too.

I liked the episode overall, just not how all the blame was dumped on Peridot (who by her own admission was still learning, and did feel bad that she upset Amethyst even if she initially didn’t understand how) , yet Amethyst who encouraged her to throw insults around and so escalated the whole thing in the first place , was made out to be the poor innocent victim by everyone including Steven.

Also, getting away from Amethyst for a moment, the whole leash thing in this episode bothered me too. I can understand why Garnet would find being asked to unfuse  offensive, but Peridot didn’t, and at least tried to be polite in how she asked. Keep in mind that on Homeworld fusion is only done for practical reasons (officially anyway, the off colours prove some Gems break the rule, but its frowned on and they are severely punished if caught), and mostly that practical reason is  fighting.

Peridot later reveals she understands and is fine with Opal because she can clearly see  and understand the practical reason for them fusing.  Peridot’s  initial discomfort with Garnet was not her objecting to the romantic relationship but her feeling intimidated because, thanks to Homeworld mentality,  she  associated fusion with violence/fighting. She’s actually fine and very quickly accepting when Garnet actually takes the time to talk to her and explain why, and that their fusion is romantic in origin, and doesn’t say another word about it.

In fairness to Peridot if someone was hanging around me with a sharp knife  drawn and I could see no rational practical reason as to why they needed it in context,  I’d get uncomfortable and nervous too. Ok probably not the best metaphor, but you get the idea, and Peridots are not trained or meant for combat in the first place. She was probably feeling especially vulnerable from the still quite recent loss of her limb enhancers too. and all Garnet had to do was actually talk to Peridot about it. Instead Peridot was simply  tied up and kept on a leash like some disobedient animal, which would be a completely humiliating and degrading punishment for anyone, and again, no one objects  or questions it and she’s even left leashed for most of the episodes remainder.

Apart from Steven she’s also pretty much excluded from the group for the rest of the episode too.

This is also hypocrisy, because they are all expecting Peridot to empathise with and understand them and their viewpoint   without taking the time or effort to extend the same courtesy to her.

The Gems got better in subsequent episodes, but I feel like their treatment of her in this episode especially was overly harsh and very  unfair in general.

She was not going to instantly understand or magically just know all the new rules , and confusing her by teaching her the wrong behaviour (Amethyst) was completely unhelpful.

<sarcasm> But hey, it was all Peridots fault, and humiliation as a punishment is a great teaching tool… </sarcasm>

My Fake Boyfriend Part 11 (Final Part)

@drinkfantasy thank you so much for being my beta. You are the best.

You are so happy, you can’t believe that today you are finally going to sleep on your own bed. “You know, I really like to see you wearing my clothes.” You smile at Bucky’s words as he hugs you from behind.

“I like to wear them, they smell like you.” You are wearing a pair of leggings and one of his sweaters. It’s so big and comfortable. “You can keep it if you want, it looks really good on you.” You turn around kissing him on the lips. “You are going to regret this, in a couple months you are not going to have any more clothes to wear.” You say playful, taking his hair out of his forehead.

“I don’t mind, I can always steal them back and this way they are gonna smell like you.” He is so sweet, you can’t believe how kind and precious Bucky Barnes can be, especially after everything he has been through.

in which y/n is harry’s first love…

She detached herself from his body, and rolled over to plug her phone into the charger next to their bed.

“Hey!” Harry protested, making grabby hands toward her waist. “Come back. You’re so far away,” he whined.

“Calm down. I’m just plugging my phone in. Jesus,” she chuckled, setting her phone down and rolling back towards him. He quickly settled back down, tucking himself into her, always the little spoon. “You just want to rest your head on my boobs."

He snuggled further into her, not denying the accusation, draping his arm around her waist and squeezing tightly, then kissed just above the swell of her breast that peeked out from his t-shirt that she was wearing. "I just really freaking love you."

She hummed and kissed the top of his head.

"That’s a bit weird, innit?"

She furrowed her eyebrows. "Is it?”

“Not the fact that I love you. Just the fact that I love another person."

She mulled it over in her head before nodding in agreement. Loving someone who wasn’t in her family, in the fullest sense of the word, completely honest and open, the way they loved each other was a weird concept, but it was one that she was in love with. "Yeah, it’s a bit weird."

He sighed out. "I don’t think I’ve ever felt this way about anyone else."

A dopey smile graced her face. "Am I your first love, Harry?"

"I…” He had never thought about it like that. “Yeah. You are.” The truth made him press his body even closer to hers. He valued the physical intimacy just as much as the emotional intimacy. He cleared his throat before he asked the question that floated through his mind when she asked him that question. “Am I yours?"

She thought about it for a second almost agreeing before she remembered the boy she dated for a bit in high school. Most days, he’s not even a passing thought in her mind, but sometimes he sneaks up on her and she remembers how he made her feel and she gets warm and tingly inside. Before her and Harry were an item, she’d reminisce on their time together and wonder what it might’ve been like had they not split up. "I’m… not sure…"

He props his head up on her chest to look her directly in the eye. He lets out breath, slightly disgruntled. "What do you mean?"

"Well, there was this guy back when I was a teenager, and I’m not sure what I felt, but it was something and it was strong."

Panic began rising within him. "Was it like us?” he asked, trying to sound casual.

“It… was… not? I don’t know. It was a long time ago, H. But, I don’t want to talk about this if it’s going to make you upset."

"I’m not,” he said, his voice raising up an octave.

She looked down at him. “There are multiple ways to feel your pulse. Yours is way faster than it should be.” He felt her hand resting at the juncture of his neck and jawline. “Besides, it doesn’t matter who your first love is, what matters is your last love."

He sat up obviously jarred by the thought of his love with another man. He didn’t like the thought at all. She immediately latched onto his back, her arms wrapping around his waist. "Baby… Come on.” She hooked her chin over his shoulder. “It doesn’t matter."

He eventually relaxed and laid back down tucking into her once again. He doesn’t know why, but for some reason it was like he could feel her slipping away from him, so he held her as close as possible. "What about you, huh? What about your first girlfriend? The one you used to catch the train for every weekend? The one you wrote that poem on Facebook about? What about her?” He could hear the teasing in her voice, but he wasn’t up to par for it.

“I worshipped the ground she walked on,” he stated plainly. He tried checking for her pulse, laying his head in the middle of her chest, but he couldn’t detect an increase. It was the same as it always had been, steady and, if you had asked him at any time prior to today, only beating for him. She giggled. “Why doesn’t that bother you?"

"Why should it?” she countered, waiting for him to fire something back at her, but she could tell he wanted an actual answer. She let out a breath. “Because I know you Harry. And, you wouldn’t be with me if you didn’t want to be. There’s obviously a reason you’re not with her, or any other of your exes, anymore, and there’s a reason you are with me. No sense in focusing on the past, when we could focus on our future."

"You’re right."

"I know I am. It’s one of my many redeeming qualities."

He snorted, but there were still questions and doubts niggling him. "But… but why don’t you know if you loved him or not?” He was expecting her to get massively annoyed at him for continuing the discussion after she tried to bring it to an end, but she was surprisingly calm and patient.

“Because I don’t want to invalidate my feelings. If you had asked me back then, I would’ve sworn up and down that, yes, I was very much in love with him. But, now? Now, I’m not so sure. Now, that I’ve been with you it kind of seems like everything before was child’s play. That doesn’t mean that what I was feeling back then doesn’t count, though."

He nodded his head, understanding where she was coming from.

She continued speaking. "What I do know, however, is that I cared about him a lot. I’m sure of that. I still care about him, to an extent, if we’re being honest. Don’t you care about your exes?"

He nodded.

"I think I’ll always care about him. But, I don’t think he ever made me feel the way you do. I don’t ever recall feeling so special and important and full of love.” She untangled herself from him, slid down so that they were face to face, and grappled the back of his neck, pushing their foreheads together to look him directly in the eyes. “Only you have made me feel this way. You’re the first. And, I certainly hope you’ll be the last."

He basked in the warmth of her words with a dimpled grin upon his lips, pink tinged across his cheeks, and a swelling feeling in his heart. He was so in love with her. He pressed a hard kiss to her lips before sprinkling butterfly kisses across her cheeks and making a mental note to always remember this moment. Because wherever life took them, whether it was together or apart, he always wanted a reminder of how he felt in this moment. It was the happiest he’d ever been.

Summary: when Bucky’s in hiding in Romania, he finds a girl he’s sure needs his protection. He doesn’t remember who gave him the mission; but he’s so sure some one gave it to him. After setting it all up, he notices that there’s more to this girl than meets the eye. She might need him watching over her more than he initially thought.

A/N: Hi guys! It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything; I just had to get something out there. Part two will be here soon, there might be more parts after that, because I have an open ending atm. (I do love me some open endings now and then)

He doesn’t know who she is. He doesn’t know why she’s important, but she is. He knows the only thing that matters is that she’s safe. It’s his mission to protect her from all harm, to make sure she lives her life however she wants, without any disturbance. Often he tries to remember who it was that gave him this mission; maybe it was Pierce, maybe Rumlow, which would indirectly mean it’d have been Pierce. Or maybe it was the Captain. The last time he saw the Captain was about a year ago, before he ran to try and get all of these things floating around in his mind in order. He’d listen to the Captain. He used to, he thinks. Before his commander was Pierce; even before it was Karpov. He sometimes imagines that the Captain was good to him, and the others.. Were there others? He thinks so.

By the end of my first full day with Dorothy Evans and her customers, I had come to realize that although the Smithton women are not accustomed to thinking about what it is in the romance that gives them so much pleasure, they know perfectly well why they like to read. I understood this only when their remarkably consistent comments forced me to relinquish my inadvertent but continuing preoccupation with the text. Because the women always responded to my query about their reasons for reading with comments about the pleasures of the act itself rather than about their liking for the particulars of the romantic plot, I soon realized I would have to give up my obsession with textual features and narrative details if I wanted to understand their view of romance reading. Once I recognized this it became clear that romance reading was important to the Smithton women first because the simple event of picking up a book enabled them to deal with the particular pressures and tensions encountered in their daily round of activities.

Radway, J. A. (1984). Reading the romance: Women, patriarchy, and popular literature. Univ of North Carolina Press.

Before Joanna Russ or Patricia Frazer Lamb and Diana L. Veith had tentatively started writing about Kirk/Spock slash, and before Henry Jenkins or Camille Bacon-Smith had begun their ethnographies of fandom, before fan studies was even a thing, Janice A. Radway sat down with a group of women who avidly read romance novels, trying to understand why. As the quote above indicates, Radway’s initial interest was in romance novels as a textual form: how do they work, what stories do they tell, what messages do they send, and just why are they so damn popular? What she didn’t expect was how deeply romance novels were intertwined with her research participants’ day-to-day lives. She found she couldn’t just focus on the texts - she had to look at the practices of those who read them too. While Reading the Romance isn’t a fan studies work as such, it marked a key shift in cultural studies, from looking at texts alone to looking at what audiences did with texts, from viewing audiences as entirely passive to recognising their agency. This in turn enabled others to start asking the kinds of questions that eventually established fan studies as a field.

(Oh, and the book helped establish popular romance studies as a field too - talk about overachieving! Over the next few weeks I’ll be posting some more quotes from popular romance studies research, partly because a lot of it is fan-centric, and partly because fanfic and romance have quite a lot in common, so understanding one helps with understanding the other.)

I’ll leave you with a quote from one of Radway’s research participants on what happens when she picks up a romance novel: “Because I think men do feel threatened. They want their wife to be in the room with them. And I think my body is in the room but the rest of me is not.”

I totally believe Jean Valjean is one of those dads who’s completely clueless about modern technology. He still thinks clap phones are cool and refuses to call the hotline because he thinks its a sex phone service or something.

He’s also the dad who spent three weeks texting.like.this. because he couldn’t find the space bar on his phone and who always ends his perfectly spelled texts with a period, unknowingly making them sound passive-aggressive.

And then he does embarrassing stuff like innocently sending wink emojis and asking why the eggplant emoji exists, bless his heart. At some point he starts calling Cosette “bae” and that’s when she draws the line.

“ ‘Bae’ doesn’t mean what you think it means, dad.”

“Doesn’t it mean Before Anyone Else?”

“It…. does, actually. I-Just don’t call me that. I know where you’re coming from but out of context it’s just weird.”

Little Even and Sana things :))))
  • Sitting cross-legged on the floor, listening to music and discussing Isalm together
    • Bonus: Sana answering questions Even has about it, because he’s never had anyone – other than Mikael, who he doesn’t talk to anymore – who is so willing to openly talk to him about it
  • Texting each other bits from the Qur’an which they find particularly moving, then discussing it, and the texting turns into hours and hours and paragraphs upon paragraphs of them just…discussing it
  • -Sana sharing little details of her life with Even, like how she sometimes feels really lonely, or how she doesn’t get on with Jamilla. Even doesn’t necessarily say anything, he just listens to her and nods; tries to be as understanding as he can, and just the fact he’s sat there, listening, trying to understand, willing to understand, makes Sana feel a bit better already
    • It gets to the point where Even becomes someone Sana can really trust; who she can talk to and confide in, because he just understands her that bit better than her other friends
    • Sometimes, after a particularly bad day, she’ll find herself calling Even, and she’ll just rant and rant and rant, and Even listens and listens and listens, and afterwards – even if Even hasn’t actually said that much – Sana feels a little lighter
  • After a while, Even opens up to Sana about his bipolar disorder. He tells her that he got into the Qur’an just before a manic episode, and that no one seems to believe his interest in it was genuine; that he’d always been told it was just a manifestation of his illness
    • That night, Sana spends hours and hours googling bipolar disorder, because she really wants to understand Even, too
    • She ends up telling him that whoever told him that his interest in the Qu’ran was disingenuine was talking bullshit, because from what she can see, bipolar disorder doesn’t really work like that; it can intensify your passions but doesn’t really change what you’re passionate about
    • And Even really can’t express how much that means to him; it means so so much, that all he can do is just nod and smile, and he wants to thank her, but he can’t quite find the words. It’s okay, though, because there’s this silent understanding passing between them; they don’t always need words to communicate - they can express how they feel through little knowing glances and nods
  • DRAGGING PEOPLE TOGETHER. Oh GOD, does this happen. They’re this powerful little educational duo; they have different strategies, of course, in tackling ignorance – Sana is slightly more aggressive, whereas Even is much more…passive aggressive, but together?? People need to take a seat
    • One day, it comes out that Even’s showing an interest in the Qur’an, and someone makes a snide comment – says, “What the fuck, you’re white, you can’t be a Muslim”, and Even kind of looks at the floor, a little…unsure; doesn’t know what to say, and that’s where Sana steps in, saying, “Islam is a religion, Einstein, anyone can follow a religion if they want to”
    • And sometimes Even will step in too; when Sana is tired, when she can’t quite bring herself to be her normal, firey self, he’ll step in and shut people down…and they can just read each other, make each other feel better, and make sure no one – absolutely no one – brings the other one down or makes them feel bad or scared or embarrassed
    • When it’s less explicit - when the ignorance is more subtle - they don’t necessarily call people out on it. Instead, they’ll share little knowing glances; roll their eyes at each other and laugh a little, smile a little, as if to say, this person is chatting shit, I know it, you know it, you’re not alone, I see it too, and I’m here with you

To conclude: Even and Sana have the potential to have a beautiful, beautiful friendship and I am SO READY for it to rise in S4.
