so i bought this dress ~a month ago and it came today and i’m v excited!! i bought it because it was a maxi dress and it was $13 which holy shit that’s cheap and i really need floor length skirts if i wanna visit the masjid in town (i own one)

i was a bit wary bc it was a “"one size fits all”“ thing and even tho the only other maxi skirt i own is a medium and this was advertised as being basically a medium i’m short and tiny so i have justifiable fears

turns out it’s actually a bit short but other than that i’m v happy with it!! the fabric is lightweight and it goes perfectly with my chocolate pashmina and it didn’t take a lot of effort to hijab-ify and it is v comfy

so anyways tidestore.com sells cheap clothes and i’ll prob buy stuff from there in the future (even though shipping takes forever bc it’s coming from china)

Basically theres a group of people and the person next to you can ask you anything they want and you have to answer it, but it has to be a “who here” or “who would” type question, So you point to some1 to answer the question but noone else knows what the question was til the very end. it’s pretty funny and kinda hard to explain wallahi

argued with a woman at a bar once because she said, Nubian means African Queen"

I’m not surprised. :/ The worst is definitely how they romanticize Nubians. They act as if they’re extinct or something?? (when Nubians are a real people).

i sympathize with where it comes from but its really problematic and easily frustrating

Same. When I first heard about it, I thought it’d be a very positive thing. But it isn’t. That’s not where you’ll learn positive West African history for example. And even if they came from North Africa or East Africa, it’s just dealt with in a very inaccurate and objectified way. It’s really frustrating as you said.

Hey its not all bad! Thats where I found your blog in the first place, we were both yelling at someone for it :D

Hell yes, I remember. :D There were so many notes on that stupid post. I thought i couldn’t be the only one who argued against it. Your commentary made me pleased haha. :p

things that have reminded me of people while on vacation:
Sarah: there’s this really cool exhibit at the museum of natural history on genomes and genetics and I think you would love it. definitely dissuade your brothers from navy ships in the future.
Len: the museum of natural history has an exhibit showing the skeletons of lots of animals. the bat ones were kind of cute and I know you would have liked them. will post pictures.
Len, James, and Allison: there’s an insect zoo in the museum of natural history where they have lots of little bug friends in aquariums. they were all so cute and it was one of the best things I’ve seen.
Julie: you would hate the DC metro system. the pricing is so complicated compared to the subway. the stops are spread far enough apart that a lot of times it’s faster to walk places. the stations are very unfriendly and it’s just generally ugh.
BCTW: there were a few sections on Somali people/culture in the African voices exhibit. they had this Somali proverb posted that said “a man without a wife is a man without a house” and was talking about how women do a lot in Somali culture. plus every time I saw a camel I’d tell my mom that Somalia is the camel capital of the world.
I miss all friends on here ask much I hope you’ve been having a lovely week so far!!!
