because we are heroes

“We’re all Jerome, because Gotham has no heroes.”

T’was a pleasure meeting Sean Pertwee and David Mazouz at Toronto Comicon this year and they were both impressed by our mad Dwight and Jeri cosplays. I think David stole the show here with his crazed expression, haha! Also, Sean gives the best hugs. :)

Dwight is me and Jeri is my buddy @magnetictrifles

A few reasons to start Boku No Hero Academia, if you haven’t yet:

  • A cinnamon roll MC who’s all brains and only beginning the brawn part when the story begins
  • Wonderfully different characters that work well together
  • Said characters are also very wonderfully flawed
  • Said characters undergo some form of character development as the story progresses, but not at any point is it a 180 degree one or unrealistic to their pre-established characteristics
  • Logical explanations, limitations to everyone’s abilities and powers
  • Flawed, not-as-OP-as-you-would-think mentors
  • Actual consequences of actual actions taken - nope, not even your fave gets a free pass
  • Minimal fan-service. And where it does happen it’s usually with the character themselves depicted as being comfortable with it
  • Main female character not subjected to fan-service
  • The one lecherous character is deliberately depicted as unappealing and a general loser, and even his redeeming moments include no form of lecherousness on his part
  • No other character - especially the “cool” ones or general favourites - supports/indulges in lecherous behaviour
  • What are minor characters?
  • Most parents are alive, well and supportive of their kids in their own way
  • Dick behaviour in “good” characters not justified with a sad, tragic past so much as their own decisions/characteristics leading them to behave in that manner
  • Amazing action in every arc so far
  • Power-ups that are earned with time and effort put into towards earning them
  • MC isn’t always the problem solving, enemy defeating star of every arc
  • Genuinely interesting, memorable villains whose presence actually leave consequences
  • Wonderful writing in general tbh

Seriously, 12/10 recommend

Shout-Outs to the Teams in the Voting Gauntlet

Shout-out to Team Lucina: For picking the winning team

Shout-out to Team Eirika: For picking the only princess representative of an older game (Sacred Stones) and putting up the closest fight against Lucina

Shout-out to Team Sharena: For standing your ground and backing up a new princess despite all odds

Shout-out to Team Elise: For supporting the little sister of the battle and doing so from the depths of your heart

Shout-out to Team Alfonse: For supporting him SIMPLY because you like him and would fight for him

Shout-out to Team Leo: For giving one of the closest Round 1 battles and a good fight

Shout-out to Team Chrom: For the kickass fight that is undoubtedly the best battle of the Voting Gauntlet if not the best thing to happen in the whole game and for the bromance that was the result of it

Shout-out to Team Ephraim: For fighting the best fight (and for pulling a lead out of your asses somehow because damn it was anyone’s game) and for finding the strength to fight one last time

Lena after single handedly saving the entire alien population in National City and leading to the arrest of her evil step-mom, aka the leader of CADMUS.

I had to learn how to be a monster
and I taught every lesson myself.

My claws were just nails
before I dug them deep into earth
and they emerged as sharp branches.

My teeth were just teeth,
blunt with river rock polished edges,
until I broke them on the forest floor,
chewed flint like fudge
and spat out the last softness
that sheltered on my tongue.

I took the human being I had been
and shaped her into a shadow, a demon,
a being of power.

My hands forgot to be anything but fists,
holding only strength and resolve,
my mouth forgot what it was to smile,
forgot kindness, but it learned how to bite,
it learned how to bare teeth like knives

My heart was the hardest part,
still weak with each beat,
because even monsters can learn how to love
but you don’t need to hold hands
when you can hold the world at your feet.

I had to learn how to be a monster.

Because the world wanted me weak,
and afraid and ashamed.
It wanted me docile.

And I wanted to prove I was more.

So when even our heroes were bowing to pressure,
I remade myself iron

This time on PJO/HOO Discourse: Are the women of the Aphrodite Cabin allowed be complex characters who have lead difficult lives which lead to problematic behavior?

alec hirch: its so weird that people like ford!!! after all hes so unlikable and unemotional and disgusting and yet people relate to him??? i cant see why!!!

survivors of abuse and trauma who see themselves in ford:

Okay but there is canon that Superman finds out that Captain Marvel is literal homeless orphan Billy Batson and reveals his own secret identity. So because I’m a sap, I was just like: “obviously Clark adopts him and they become a pure hearted domestic singularity of super heroism” That didn’t happen in canon. That’s why we have fan fic. Because then for Billy, the real hero isn’t Superman… It’s definitely Clark Kent burning Eggo waffles and panicking about being a decent legal guardian.

okay sO

i would just like to share my thoughts on the fire emblem: heroes voting gauntlet so far….

at first. i was a little skeptical of the whole thing. I already knew who the heroes were for both princes and princesses and i already knew who i was going to pick (i picked chrom). we had actually breezed through the first round (sorrryyy team alfonse!!)

and when i saw who we were going up against. it was ephraim! i was actually extremely surpised. my immediate thoughts were, “ephraim??” “i didn’t think he’d make it to the second round…” so i did a battle and closed my game.

i got on the next time to do a battle again. the counter said “same” but ephraim was just a BIT higher than ours. i did the battle got off. got on later, it said the same thing. but chrom’s score was higher this time. that’s when my interest was piqued just a bit.

i got off. then got on to do another battle. same thing but reversed. ephraim was putting up a fight against us. and when i realised that. i had felt actual, genuine joy. this was going to be an ePIC war.

and it was. and i wasn’t upset in the LEAST when we lost to team ephraim. in fact i was ESTATIC! it just goes to show you. that even though a character isn’t NEW. it doesn’t mean they aren’t loved.

so i’d love to thank team ephraim from the bottom of my heart. and everyone from team chrom that chose to side with them like i did. we most definetly will not win this next round. but at least we can say that we tried. we can say that we stuck together to the very end. and that, more than anything, brings joy to my heart.

I’m holding out for a hero to awaken the Light,
She’s gotta be strong, and she’s gotta be fast,
and she’s gotta be fresh from the fight!
(Racing on the Falcon and rising with the heat,
It’s gonna take a Jedi Knight to sweep me off my feet~! )

Riffing off the Disney/fairytale theme once more, because Rey is the hero we all need and I’ve always dreamed of, I’m in love…….. *__*

also having fun with potential “level-up” Jedi outfits! (I know this is more PT than OT style, but I really like the PT tunics…) I can’t decide between Rey making her own classic lightsaber, or making a dual-bladed saber to complement her quarterstaff… the dual blade was just fun to draw :D

Remember when the teachers visited the kids at home to ask their parents if they could stay at the UA dorms?
What about Todoroki?
