because this show is just so pretty

anonymous asked:

do you have tips on comic compostions and angling/framing of scenes beacuse holy fudge what the actual hell your mob comic is An Expirience

hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhOOOOOOOOOOOO BO Y AIGHT

I’m gonna take this ask as a chance to masterpost about this comic.

Since there wasn’t a set time limit for this comic, I went all ham for it, which means there’s a lot of thought about angles/framing n shit in this sumbitch. (keep in mind i’m still learning this craft myself as i go along so FEEL FREE TO IMPROVE WHEREVER)

I’ll go in depth about it but all of my tips can be summed up with :

go for the emotion of the scene.

Everything I do, I do to try and heighten the feeling in a scene. Everything I’m about to describe were all choices to try and maximize the emotional impressions.

Angles

First off, everything in this comic (with the exception of panels 7-9 on page 4) is from Mob’s POV. Everything is built from there. keep in mind goin forward -

We start with Mob terrified of being spotted, of running into anyone. So I strained the perspective to make it feel too close for comfort, despite how far away his other limbs are. I also used the angle to emphasize the “spotlight”, pushing Mob into further discomfort, like he’s being watched anyways.

Mob fears he just murdered someone ? At his lowest moment in this comic? This is where the camera looks down on Mob the most.

Time for shock and awe that the man’s alive ! So Reigen is angled UP, building his Bigness in Mob’s eyes. Most subsequent shots repeat this, keeping us grounded in Mob’s perspective.

Here, Mob is literally on his knees asking for answers. So I pushed for an angle to make him seem really tiny. I wanted him to look as small as he feels.

In the next few pages, the angles basically level out (and I’ll talk more about why in other sections***) until

Mob has just touched back. This was a direct action on his part, so just as I’d built Reigen with that tilt up, it’s Mob’s turn to share that space.

Once Mob fears for the lives of the police, we shift back to high angles. Using a high angle to make a character seem small isn’t groundbreaking but it’s something to chew anyways.

This is less about the angle and more about how cramped everything is. Mob feels backed into a corner unless he can get Reigen to relent. So the tightness and how Reigen looms reflects this.

And here, I mirrored the very first panel. Once again we have a shot of Mob’s back, walking into the light of a streetlamp. But this angle is gentle in comparison, even if slightly off center. We can see where the light comes from so it ceases to feel less like an omnipotent threat and more mundane. Perhaps even hopeful.

Paneling

I’m sorry to say I feel this is one of my weak points as a creator. I’d like to improve here the most. Most of my panels can be summed up with ‘slant = energized’, ‘straight = stable’. BUT. I did take a few liberties here and it’s good to point them out.

Broken glass to heighten the ouch on Mob’s part.

Salt man don’t give a fuck. he IS the panel. //adds to the energy of this moment

This break from the panels is meant to make Mob hitting Reigen a more immediate threat.

Same with Reigen reaching around it here. He’s still in danger of being shreddy shreddy at this point.

Sometimes a panel will bleed off, to give a more ‘open space’ feel. I like to use it in subtle “oh” moments. That’s the best I could describe it.

annnnnd nothin like a casual reminder on the edges of panels about what would happen should the police show up.

Staging/Body Language

Once Reigen shows up, he dominates the frame, even in shots where mob is closer to the audience. Again, this is all to emphasize how Big Reigen seems to a scared Mobbu.

Mob pushes himself to corners, Reigen’s given the bulk of the space.

He stands taller than mob and makes the frame uneven.

Even his hand feels huge in comparison.

***That is, until Reigen has a better perception of what’s going on.

Then his actions and staging reflect this.

Reigen kneels down, trying to make himself smaller both to Mob, and in the frame.

The staging reflects Reigen’s attempts to get on even ground, literally and metaphorically.

Mob’s still pushing himself into corners, but now Reigen has actively surrendered some of the space.

Still just, trying to get some of Mob’s perspective.

And from this point onwards, Reigen and Mob share the space/frame more evenly.

Even in shots where Reigen’s kinda large, he no longer seems so imposing.

Mob still looks up to him but we no longer have such dramatic shots tilting him up and having him hog the focus of the panel.

And we save the closest-closeup, both in staging and in how close our characters physically feel for last. Because bonding and shit.

Coloring

Decided to make the use of color sort of uncomfortable. Hinted at in edges but not really a presence of their own. Hard to tell what the color of anything is because it’s all nonsense in ur peripherals.

Until we get to humans. But this color seems more invasive, and doesn’t really touch mob in a positive way.

Till we get to these splash of color, messy and kinda unorganized but it’s exactly what Mob needs to bring some order.

From here we get a muted color wash, there but still slightly dulled.

The first hint we get of the saturation to come is centered around the touch.

We slowly fade into full blown saturation once Mob reaches back.

Fanfic bonus

The name meanings of Jun and Tetsuo, since this is the street where they live and why not ahaha.

There’s a lot of bird imagery in ABoT so I

“Kid, it’s like lifting a feather.”

And even tho Reig gets a cool halo from the streetlights n shit

We all know who the real angel is

Other fun shit

Mob’s outfit is based on Sakurai’s outfit when he was orphaned as a child.

I literally put the streetlight directly behind the hand in this shot because I lack subtlety and love it.

There are 2 times where I cut out a bit of (frankly beautiful) wordage in order to show things better visually. Both times happen when Mob’s stopped paying attention.

First with Reigen’s words just becoming a flood of nonsense pretty sounds.

The second when Mob’s thinking about the possibility of his barrier being gone.

also here u guys can have some behind the scenes shenanigans

Today I went to an anime con and it inspired me to do this, so many cool cosplays out there *^* At first I wasn’t planning to make AJ cosplay, but then I remembered how much she looks like BoW Link and I couldn’t not draw it, now I can die in peace. Rarity cosplays as Mami from Madoka Magica. This idea is so silly but still possible because Rarity watching Madoka Magica and showing off a cosplay (totally made by her of course) seems pretty legit. And AJ? Just accompanying her girlfriend, but Rares convinced her to wear a cosplay too because the more outfits she gets to show, the best (and besides AJ totally rocked it and caused a sensation and everyone ended up asking her for a pic, so everything was pretty great and fun for both at the end)

I’m still over the moon from how much fun I had at last night’s show! Which is so odd because I went by myself to the venue, which I’ve never done before. I can’t remember the last time I had this much fun playing a solo set. Because when I’d play with Josh and Daniel or Connor or whoever I’d be performing with, it was obviously a blast because creating music with other people is a pretty magical and high-energy thing. But ahhh!

When I got to the venue, a couple of guys were unloading their equipment and they said, “HEY! YOU WRITE THE FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST SONGS! ARE YOU PLAYING ANYTHING NEW TONIGHT?” And it was just. So kind and genuine and filled me with all of this positive energy. (Also, they opened the show and were A M A Z I N G. I snapped some of their set!)

Then, because I was alone and am a painfully awkward human being, I sat by myself during soundcheck and read BNHA on my phone (ALMOST CAUGHT UP, BTW!!). But once the show began. MAN. ALL THE BANDS WERE SO EXTRAORDINARY. Probably the best lineup I’ve ever seen at Artistic Vibes. Although my faves Pandarama weren’t playing that night. That was the only thing missing that would have made it perfect.

This band called Nostalgic Minds performed and W O W, you guys. I couldn’t stop smiling throughout their entire set. They were so infectiously high energy and their musicians are so talented. I won’t forget that as long as I live. They were all just rotating instruments throughout the set AND PLAYING EVERY SINGLE ONE MASTERFULLY. I was so awestruck. It was indescribable. And they had a kickass lady switching from keyboard to lead vocals to percussion and KILLING IT and, dang. Goals. She was amazing. I talked to her after the set and was just. *bows to senpai*

The past few times I’ve performed, I’ve felt really nervous and awkward and end up busting out something mediocre. But this time was slightly different? My vocals weren’t any better than usual, but I felt calm on stage because the audience was so receptive and because so many people had been kind and welcoming to me when I’d entered. I had, like, no game plan getting up there. I ended up playing ‘Phantom Flowers,’ ‘Curse of Winter,’ ‘Broken, Beautiful Brilliant Divinity,’ and a cover of Guren no Yumiya (the first snk opening). I botched a few chords throughout the set but nothing earth shattering. And I slipped off pitch a few times, but again, nothing I couldn’t recover from thereafter. When I played Guren no Yumiya people who recognized it cheered so loud which made me feel so happy and giddy and excited to keep going. AHHHH. IT WAS JUST SUCH A GOOD FEELING AND I REALLY ENJOYED IT. I HAD SO MUCH FUN AND I’M STILL FEELING THE BUZZ.

SKJGHLSJDGH. I just wanted to share that with you guys. <3

Close the balcony at the Rainbow
Because the promoter says so
Aviators and a buckskin frontier hat
How come they dress like that?
They break the news to me so gentle
But I start to feel sentimental
This used to be the place to go
Still draw pretty good in Ontario

Nobody wants to hear the twelve bar blues
From a guy in platform shoes

Let’s just have a good time when the show’s done
Ask where the good clubs are and go find one
Roll up to the curb
Spill out of the car
Everyone’s dressed up like corpses
I brought my guitar
Set it down by the stage
The singer’s locked up in a steel cage
Shaking the bars
Eyes wild with fear
I don’t belong here

Nobody wants to hear the twelve-bar blues
From a guy in platform shoes

-Same asker from the secretly demon thing- S/O lost a very close friend a long time ago, and are afraid of losing UT/UF/HT Sans. So, for some reason, whenever Sans is in danger of being killed, they will randomly show up and protect him. Reactions? Sorry, my mind is really wierd.

My mind is weird. Have you seen my Horrortale Sans? Or my Yanderes? Yeah. I’m pretty fucked up. No judgment here.

UT! Sans: just because you’re immortal, doesn’t mean he’s okay with this. You’re not suppose to sacrifice your safety for him, even if you aren’t in any real danger. It hurts his even more that you’re the one getting hurt. He’ll flip out and tell you to stop. He gets you wanna protect him, but he wants to protect you as well, even I you don’t need it. It’s not like he’ll stay dead for long. Although you probably don’t know that.

UF! Sans: he’s actually fine with this. You assured him you couldn’t die, so it’s okay. Dying fucking hurts, so thanks babe. He’ll always try to treat your wounds afterwards even if that isn’t necessary, he still feels the need to do it.

HT! Sans: you’re fucking insane. You’re giving him panic attacks and he’ll tell you to stop. If you still won’t stop, he’ll tie you up in the shed. He can’t handle the thought of losing you. Even though it’s not possible. He’s psychotic, what do you expect?

Whenever I’m at family functions the shy kids always find me and just like… drag me to whatever they’re passionate about. One time this shy kid dragged me to his room and showed me (in extensive detail) about his basketball fantasies. Idk what it is about me but like everyone who normally doesn’t open up opens up to me. Like, kids love me. I theorize it’s because I’m very short like them

This Teen Got Extra Credit Because She Did An Amazing Drawing Of A Meme On Her Math Test

“He handed me my test back and I was looking over it and I just immediately lost it, I was laughing so hard I was crying,” Maeve Lindell said. “I showed it to my friend and pretty soon half the class was laughing about it.”

Teacher Jordan Marks told BuzzFeed News he gave Maeve the extra points because he appreciated her artwork all semester. He said he picked the number at random.

“It’s the end of the school year and she really deserved it,” he said.

Marks added that he often tries to do things to make math a little more fun for his students.

“Anything I can do to try to get a laugh out of the kids I try to do to break up the monotony of the classroom,” he said.

The definition of Fast Friends

I have already spewed endlessly on how much I love Yuri on Ice and the way they present their narrative. What I love most is their theme of mirroring and contrasting certain elements.

I’m not sure if this particular point has been brought to attention yet. I think in establishing Yuri and Otabek’s friendship, what the creators want to show is how close they got in an immense short span of time. What I have noticed in the imagery is the following.

Take note of how Yuuri and Victor first sit together at the beginning of their story arch:

They sit apart, indicating that they have to grow towards each other. This of course has to do with Yuuri’s character development: learning to accept help from others and in his turn place trust in himself and his abilities.

Compare this to how Otabek and Yuri sit together on the beach in Barcelona, about two days into their friendship:

There’s literally no space between them. What this implies is how willing Yuri was to accept Otabek into his life as a friend. Whereas Yuuri is hesitant to let people near because of his self-doubt, Yuri is pretty much desperate for a friend; a peer who will understand him in the way he wants to be seen. It’s why Yuri is so clingy. I think he feels completely understood by Otabek from the very beginning and things in their (platonic) relationship happen at lightening speed. There is immediate trust, because Yuri (and Otabek too, for that matter) are so willing. They are the definition of fast friends.

And I got all of that just by how they are sitting on a bench, which shows how well the YOI creators think out their characterization.

One of the most satisfying things about witnessing Harry’s success is knowing that he’s a genuinely good person. Like we’ve seen time and time again how lovely and kind and humble he is, and how no matter how huge he gets he appreciates every positive thing that comes his way. For as long as he’s been in the public eye, he seems to have always understood the transcience of fame and commercial success and so has never taken any of the overwhelming support for him for granted. Even a few days ago when he was doing one of his radio interviews, he kept thanking the host for playing his song and having him on the show, and the interviewer let out a chuckle like ‘are you kidding me???’ and said “No, thank YOU.” Because he’s Harry’s Styles so of course being interviewed and praised should be something that he’s pretty used to by now. But after all these years, Harry still makes sure to stay kind and grateful and thoughtful about how he interacts with people around him and what he puts back into the world. Like there is something so wonderful about knowing that Harry is both tremendously talented and fiercely good-natured and that he’s someone you can just root for wholeheartedly. In case it isn’t clear, I’m so proud of him and I’m so proud to support him in any way I can because he is loving and deserving and so much the kind of person I aspire to be someday.

Bum’s backstory was always going to be horrific but I think the real tragedy behind this chapter was the fact that he could have had a normal, happy life. Despite the fact all the information came from his uncle I think it’s clear Bum’s father would’ve had a good job, had been raised with affection and I get the feeling he probably loved his wife. If Bum’s uncle’s behaviour this chapter was anything to go by, he probably beat Bum’s mother and that’s why she ran off with his brother. I mean Bum would probably have still had BPD but he wouldn’t have been beaten, starved and sexually abused and I get the vibe his parents were probably decent people.

Another interesting trope Koogi has used this chapter is the idea of the sins of the father. Over the course of the chapter we discover Bum’s beatings are in part due to the fact of who his parents were. Though Bum’s uncle claims his father was the favourite son I’m guessing his own fell out of favour when he married his brother’s girlfriend. At the moment, I’m fairly confident Bum resembles his mother and that’s why his uncle has this overwhelming urge to punish him. Whether Bum’s Grandma ignores her sons actions due to guilt over having a favourite or because she can’t deal with Bum’s criminal record is unclear. I mean she calls him a wicked child so I think it’s a mixture of both, making out that almost everything that happens to Bum is his fault because he doesn’t learn from his uncle’s actions. After hearing the story I wouldn’t be shocked if Sangwoo takes her as a victim as well.

Finally I want to talk about a Sangwoo - after the small snippet we’ve seen of him I feel fairly confident that my prediction he was going to be the one person to react to Bum’s story with sympathy/a need to protect is right. Koogi shows us the minute he snaps. Sangwoo is smart and I think he can read Bum’s subtext pretty well in this situation which is why rather than flying off the handle at being lied too he tries to coax the truth out of him instead. Honestly the screen shot I’ve used of Sangwoo for this post is one of my favourites because it’s so obvious his switch has been flipped but he doesn’t lash out at Bum. The need to protect his property is stronger than his desire to hurt something in that moment which just shows how much their dynamic has developed since the beginning. I also think he looks a little concerned/worried about what exactly Bum is going to tell him so I’m excited to see whether Bum’s story triggers anything about Sangwoo’s
own backstory next chapter.

I figured out why Viktor is so awful at seducing Yuuri

And I mean, for someone who has pretty much yearned for a guy for an entire year, it’s not like Viktor didn’t have enough time to mentally imagine and plan how he was going to seduce Yuuri.

Like, what was this, Viktor? Just show up at his house naked unannounced, and immediately expect him to sleep with you? It literally took Viktor several months to even get a kiss from Yuuri.

So, why is he so appalling?

To be honest, I think it’s because Viktor has never pursued anybody himself. From a young age, he’s always been Viktor Nikiforov Figure Skating Legend, people naturally gravitate towards him. In general, too, rather than romantically.

We do know that Viktor has at some point done something with someone, as he mentions it in episode two. However, we see after his engagement to Yuuri that he’s neglected love in his life until now. Which would kind of make sense if Viktor only ‘dated’ people if they approached him, as relationships kind of need to be a mutual thing.

Also, don’t forget the Eros routine. As we learn, it’s a huge part of Viktor’s personality that he feels the need to surprise the audience. So, if he was planning to skate it, he must therefore not view seduction as a part of his own personality.

So Viktor has never courted anyone before, and has no experience on how to do it. I mean, who does he have for influences? Yakov? Georgi? Christophe? He had no hope.

characterization, filters, and characterization to be found in the lack of filters

Talking about Jane earlier got me thinking, you know, Jane is not at all the only character that uses this device to show off the less desirable traits lurking in the psyche of all these damaged teens. Like. So many characters have these lurking deep seated issues that stay hidden deep down because the characters are pretty good at projecting a less damaged and more together version of themselves.

If that sounds familiar it’s because it’s a fucking outrageously relatable quality and part of what makes the Homestuck characters RESONATE so much. Why they feel like they have all this dimension and depth that makes us grab on to them and never want to let go.

I’m just going to run through some examples here while I’m thinking about it. The first OBVIOUSLY since thinking about her is what got me going on this – Jane. Crockertier Jane removing the layers of self-imposed filter on Jane’s festering insecurity, entitlement issues, jealousy and so on. I’ve already talked enough about that today.

Grimbark Jade! You notice Jade says what she’s thinking WAY more easily while she’s mind controlled, and she still sounds like herself – she sounds kinda like she does when she’s owning Karkat repeatedly, doesn’t she? Because angry Jade has that same effect of pushing her nice girl filter aside and letting the angry witch (not a cutesy slur, her literal witch class) within fly free. Grimbark Jade tells us that behind that nice girl front Jade Harley actually thinks some pretty uncharitable thoughts sometimes, she just keeps a tight fucking lid on it because – well, don’t most people? Relatable as fuck.

Jadesprite! Since we’re talking about Jade anyway. Jade likes to think she has everything together, that her visions from Skaia and her scientific prowess and the tools her Grandpa left her are more than enough to handle everything that comes her way, she’s independent, she’s capable, she’s certainly never LONELY oh no of course not certainly never CRUSHINGLY OVERWHELMED by the responsibility of her own existence nah those are weak feelings for weak girls who aren’t as awesome as Jade! And then – Jadesprite. Why do you think Jade got SO ANGRY at Jadesprite? Because she was being confronted with something she knew deep down was a reflection of weaknesses in herself (totally normal ones that her later arc reinforced were a mistake to pretend weren’t there – Loneliness and fear and regret are all tied in with Jade’s character progression and learning how to deal with those things is where I imagine her arc would have gone if Homstuck’s ending hadn’t been the literary equivalent of chopping off a limb and cauterizing the wound.) Jadesprite is Jade without the filter of implacable strength Jade imposes on herself to fuckin cope with living on a hell island with the stuffed corpse of her grandpa who she grew up thinking literally killed himself at BEST.  god damn

Davesprite. Dave Strider with a slow long agonizing depressing arc wherein he realizes his coolkid persona won’t make anyone think of him as their best friend anymore, and in the absence of the security that persona afforded him when he was The Real Dave he has no idea what to do with himself. He’s lost, he feels aimless, untethered, incapable of being happy – and yes, Davesprite is his own character, but you can still infer a lot from Dave’s character about him – for instance, how he completely ties his self worth up in how useful he is to his friends or how worthwhile they find him and has no idea how to even BEGIN the hard journey of looking within for worth instead of relying eternally on changeable external sources. Davesprite is Dave not WITHOUT a filter but certainly with a VERY DIFFERENT one.

Homestuck does this with almost every single damn character on its roster at some point. Shows a version of them with a different or lesser or completely missing filter to highlight flaws and issues and internal struggles of all kinds.

Homestuck is a damn deep dive into an exercise about analyzing nature vs nurture and what we’re predisposed to do and what comes from within and what is put upon us by forces out of our control, and how that line is blurry and messy and everyone has the potential to be either the worst or best version of themselves. Even Caliborn was given a choice. Hussie-The-Character explained it to him at great painstaking length.

There are so many other examples. Jasprose is Rose without a filter, and the way Jasprose goes around gleefully calling every hot girl she sees hot and delighting smugly in knowing more than just about anyone else and lording over the information and playing smarter-than-thou games – that tells us a LOT about Rose! A LOT about what sort of urges Rose tamps down on every day in an effort to just be fucking cool!

I bet you have things like this with yourself, right? Doesn’t everyone?

Tricksters! Look at how they act. They’re not themselves but there is plenty to glean from them. Jane immediately goes for Jake, the object of her desire, to pursue an exaggerated version of her idealized future. Trickster Jake is a passive fucking ragdoll who immediately acquiesces to everything everyone demands of him because their happiness becomes his happiness – Jake hates confrontation, so Trickster Jake is just a fucking doormat. Roxy goes for Jake AND Dirk because divorced from the guilt she normally feels for harboring desire toward either one of them she knows exactly what she wants! ETC ETC. Of course they would never do any of this shit if they weren’t high as balls and incapable of understanding the meaning of the word “consequence.” That’s the point. Seeing what they do in this situation is an interesting window in!

Brain Ghost Dirk is a version of Jake (yes, of Jake, not Dirk) without a specific filter Jake runs his own personality through before he’s comfortable presenting it to others, and you’ll notice, it’s EXTREMELY biting and critical sometimes. Jake knows what he’s about. He just buries it most of the time because that’s easier than dealing with it.

I could seriously keep going.

Homestuck loves to show us what our favorites do and say and ARE when basic filters go out the window. Those filters that most of us employ to make other people believe we don’t all have intrusive thoughts or bad desires or just plain old weaknesses we’re ashamed of and want to keep hidding at costs – or that we occasionally think things or think about doing things we would never ever ever do in real life are demolished or changed or temporarily suspended.

It’s brilliant tbh. It lets us see facets of characters that would normally never really get full spotlight reveals by their very nature, especially with protagonists.

Vriska vs (Vriska) – (Vriska) is just Vriska with some more self awareness and more willingness to let down her self-imposed filter and actually examine the shit she wants and why because watching Aranea fuck the timeline over out of motivations eerily similar to her own hardcore shook her enough to develop in that direction. (which makes sense since HER original motivations are copying Mindfang who IS alt-aranea lmao I love Homestuck)  (Vriska) is still Vriska, it’s just a very very different lens through which to view her character.

blah blah blah blah etc there are so many examples

anyway I love Homestuck and good character writing what up

Video games are the perfect form for storytelling — and succeed where movies fall short

There’s a moment in What Remains of Edith Finch — one moment among many, really — where I had to pause while playing.

“You have to experience this,” I said to my partner, passing over the controller, as it thrummed softly, rhythmic and steady. The controller’s haptic feedback played a key role in how the story was being told in that particular moment. I won’t spell out what happened — it’s a pretty big spoiler. So let me just say that it involves a heartbeat.

Where an Edith Finch book would tell or a movie would show, the game can force players to feel its most intimate stories. My experience playing Edith Finch habitually transcended passive digestion. Holding the controller meant more than reading the words on the screen or hearing Edith’s voice through the speakers.

Writing for the Atlantic in April, Ian Bogost argued that video games are better without stories because movies and books “tell them better.” But the reductive reasoning peppered throughout Bogost’s article fails to take into account a vital interactive imperative. Some stories need the interaction only video games can offer to achieve their powerful, climactic sequences. It’s something that other, more traditional mediums simply can’t match. tbh alex's style in the show was the fucking best. for some reason i keep headcannoning him in my head as more flamboyant (and bi) and wearing sweaters with things like "pretty boy" or "nancy boy" bc he's a bit effeminate. like just TELL ME that wouldn't look Good as Shit on him. its triggering my anxiety just thinking about it lmaooo.

so basically the way miles heizer is irl

I’m worried about Kevin. He discovered Jason’s body and watched Cliff murder Jason. His friends are constantly ranting and complaining to him. His boyfriend left town because he was an accomplice in covering up a murder. And it’s Riverdale, so Kevin probably gets bullied for being gay.

But through all of this Kevin doesn’t seem to have much of a support system in his friends. I mean, we hardly see him with them. I’m just getting visions of Kevin sitting at home and binge-watching crime shows and then his dad coming through the door and sighing and hanging up his coat because Kevin’s home again. He wants Kevin to have a life and he’s worried that this murder negatively affected his kid significantly. And in addition, he knows that Kevin’s hiding something from him.

Also, I’m pretty sure Kevin lost his mom. And his dad probably tries his best but he’s the Sheriff, how much is he really able to be there for his kid?

Please Riverdale, let my son feel his feelings on screen the same way your straight characters do. Let him be traumatized and maybe sad, dammit.

I honestly tried so hard not to ship Destiel but it's just one of those ships y'know you just kinda accidentally ship and I really don't wanna cause some of the fandom is kinda toxic but I can't help but to ship it

Dude, SAME.

Honestly, I’ve never shipped anything before (I liked it when Spike x Buffy did eventually go somewhere and was kinda beautiful but I didn’t really ship it), I didn’t even know what shipping was until I found tumblr a few months ago, I’m mostly straight (I’m a bit fluid but meh, mostly straight), and I never really thought about representation that much beyond ‘yeah, thats a great thing, there should be more of it’.

So I just watched the show (on my own) with no previous knowledge of anything at all and…. well…. it was so obvious?!

I mean, I just binge watched the show last year because I love sci-fi and I was in a bit of a bad place and needed a distraction and had watched all the Buffy/True Blood/GoT I could and was looking for something new.

I loved seasons 1-3, I did, but then, enter Castiel and literally, my life has kind of changed?! I have an obsessive personality anyway but…. jeez. What a character and WHAT A ROMANTIC GLORIOUS LOVE STORY!

And then it just dragged… and dragged…. and yet also GREW so much?!

So, like, what exactly are they doing? Well, I believe they know exactly what they are doing, especially since Dabb took over, but hey, let’s see…. but my blog description is ‘endgame Destiel positive’ so you know what I mean ;)

It’s all THERE, they all know its there, the writers USE it in their plots, the editors make it visually obvious, it’s even referenced in the show, the actors all KNOW, I mean come on!

It’s not our fault if they use all the romance tropes with these two.

I think it is very relevant that so many Destiel meta-writers and shippers have a background in understanding stories, being teachers, journalists, book worms, cinematography students etc etc and therefore can make pretty good conclusions from the material that is being shown.

I mean, the overall story of these two characters is that one is a fallen, rebellious Angel who just wants to feel Human and belong somewhere and loves caring for others and one is a faithless man with abandonment issues who just wants someone to stay with and care for him.

Said fallen Angel rebels and does it, all of it for Him, eventually looking to Him instead of God, is in return called ‘family’ and cared for himself.

Said Human learns to have Faith in and through his Angel and through this in himself, which is a key part of his overall story in the whole show.

They’re WRITTEN as each other’s canonical other half (see this post about how its a romantic and not a buddy story according to literary guidelines).

Their story is like so many rom-com, shakespearean and classical for that matter love/mythical stories where they start out on opposite sides and kind of meet in the middle you know? The idea being that they ‘complete’ each other and lead themselves to be the best that they can be and who they really are and want to be deep down? As these two clearly do?!

I’ve said before and I’ll say again, Dean and Cas are canonically central to each other’s CORE CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT and their endgames are INTERLINKED.

I mean, if this was a guy and a girl and it was a movie, so all the story was shown in 1h30 minutes and at the end they were like oh, no, but you see, they’re just FRIENDS. Literally everyone would just be like WHAT?!

The fact that Disney movies and romcoms are so highly parallel-able with Destiel, because it fits that literary box - as a romance, not a buddy story or a drama or even a familial story, it does up to a point, but it definitely transcends this and moves into romance realms pretty early on, like, season 5 FFS.

It’s not our fault, the show made us do it.

If fandom wank is a problem for you, well, I don’t like it either, I guess no one does apart from the ones instigating it who seem to get a high off it, I just blacklist on tumblr and I don’t attend cons, so… meh, I have this gorgeous little space where we all know and all discuss what is happening and it is lovely, feel free to join us :)

Anonimus opinion: you're great person! And btw, everyone in naruto fandom talk about some "SP" ...what sp present?

Awh! Thank you, anon ♥(ˆ⌣ˆԅ)

SP is the abbreviation for Studio Pierrot who is a Japanese animating studio and they are the ones who animate Naruto.

Many fans dislike the studio because a lot of their work is at a very low standard. Here are a few examples:

That doesn’t mean that they can’t do good animation. They are actually capable of outstanding animation. But, they like to spread their budget around and put money on more important parts of the story. Another element is their favouritism with certain characters. This leads me onto my second point of why people dislike SP so much.

To put it simply, they absolutely adore Hinata but they don’t like Sakura. Some people say it’s due to their characters, some say it’s because of their chest sizes or just simply because of their popularity amongst fans. You can read this short analysis which shows how much effort was put into one short scene where Hinata was confessing compared to other episodes.

I’d just like to add my own two cents into this from recent episodes. So, I’m sure you know that the last few episodes of Naruto Shippuden were filler episodes about Naruto’s and Hinata’s wedding. This is what the first few episodes consisted of:

You get the point. Now, as soon as Hinata shows up in the episode, she gets all the spotlight.

You can see just how much effort was put into animating her. Her hair, eyes, clothes and even lighting has so much precise detail. SP is basically pushing it all out just for her. Whereas Sakura is made to look like this:

In one episode they even made Sakura and Ino fight over who is more womanly and Ino used the argument that Sakura has a small chest so she is obviously less feminine. This just shows how sexist the studio is. In their view, big boobs = more womanly. And that is the main reason why Hinata gets the spotlight and why she ended up with Naruto.

In The Last, the animation is probably at it’s best and it’s pretty obvious why. Because the movie is Hinata-centred. It’s so obvious how much time and effort they put into that movie just to show-off Hinata and obviously make her look better. They even put her in an outfit which showcased her boobs even more (proving further how sexist SP is).

Even in the new Boruto series, Hinata is getting so much unnecessary screen time (even more than Naruto himself).

I’ll just leave these here:
