because there was no proper gifset for this movie

They all deserve to die. Tell you why, Mrs. Lovett, tell you why! Because in all of the whole human race, Mrs. Lovett, there are two kinds of men and only two. There’s the one staying put in his proper place and one with his foot in the other one’s face. Look at me, Mrs Lovett! Look at you! No, we all deserve to die… Even you, Mrs Lovett, even I! Because the lives of the wicked should be made brief. For the rest of us death will be a relief. We all deserve to die…

i'm curious - why do you get upset over sirius saying one thing in the movie and one in the books? would you rather have him say the things from books?

They sort of completely changed Sirius’ character on screen. In the movies he’s the godfather Harry needed but in the books he was reckless, a bit cruel, and still kind of mentally stuck as a teenager who really didn’t know what to say or how to comfort Harry. Like in that scene from the gifset in particular, book Sirius says what he says and just pats Harry’s shoulder and walks out without really providing him with any comfort because he doesn’t know how to handle it and let’s be real, he’s probably really freaked out by it and runs from it, while in the movie he puts both hands on Harry’s shoulders, looks him straight in the eyes, and tells Harry what he needs to hear to keep him going and then says the whole “when all this is over, we’ll be a proper family” thing and hugs him which happens quite a bit in the films compared to the one short, awkward one-armed hug Harry receives in the books. Movie Sirius is the one we would have liked for Harry to have, but book Sirius was ill-equipped to be who Harry needed. I’m not saying Sirius was a terrible godfather because he did the best he could, but both Harry and Sirius were looking for James in each other, but they needed different versions of him and those versions rarely matched up.

chocolatecoffees if it was me I doubt I put it in those terms, I try not to bring the “SJ” acronym into my Tony posts because I really don’t need the kind of backlash that would inevitably ensue. And idk about sj-friendly like?? Mm

BUT while we’re at it, yes narratively speaking, Tony’s arc is about bettering oneself and atoning for mistakes so like???? Unlearning bad stuff is actually the point? And I’m not saying the franchise did it particularly WELL but it’s still the IDEA – and honestly we could have A LOT of useful discussion about tumblr SJ hot topics using Iron Man movies as a base if fandom didn’t have the pathological need to frame it as “Tony is a terrible person”

Let me tell you a thing about bad writing and demeaning jokes: THEYRE ALL OVER THE DAMN FRANCHISE

Like heeeeey Pepper calls Christine trash in IM1 and slyly slutshames her in IM2 but that’s celebrated in “Pepper is sassy and badass” gifsets. The movies painted Pepper as the actual posterchild of Tumblr definition of proper white feminism and fandom promptly follows suit like people genuinely whined when Helen Cho was announced because apparently that threatened the ship I’m just??? I’m still so salty. The Iron Man franchise fucked up in too many ways and not just via Tony

Tony gets shit for making a transphobic joke in IM1 but Rhodey reacts in a transphobic way and no one ever brings it up, Tony is scrutinized for responding to a confirmed anxiety attack like “ME????” but when Rhodey is all “don’t freak out on me” there’s not a single offended person

Trust me I’m all here to call bullshit on lots of Iron Man movie stuff, whether or not it’s in or out of character, realistic portrayal of an issue or just bad writing, but fandom likes to pretend it’s about “SJ” and that they don’t have a personal Tony problem lmao please

Also oh my god listen I just loooooove thinking about fandom hypocrisy too like

Tony is an immoral terrible person for hacking into SHIELD and Steve’s lack of trust in him is entirely justified to the end of times but when Steve does the same thing in a physical level and finds the old tesseract guns he’s brave and rebellious

Steve gets ALL THIS PRAISE for demanding honesty from a broken system whereas Tony LITERALLY USES THE PHRASE “TIME FOR A LITTLE TRANSPARENCY” WHILE CALLING POLITICIANS OUT ON THEIR SHIT but oh no he’s a terrible person

Tony shuts down the weapons manufacturing division of SI without prior planning and that doesn’t count as taking responsibility but then when Steve literally breaks SHIELD he’s fighting the system

I fucking see you fandom I’m just saying
