because she's blind

  • One of the storyboard artists put a photo of Sokka in Toph’s cave at the storyboard stage.  They found it hilarious, but decided it didn’t work because she was blind.  They said it could have worked as a joke, though, with the photo being something Sokka gave her unthinkingly and being hung upside down.

I’ve just realised why I love the Final Agni Kai so much (and why it’s the best fight in Avatar). They are both fighting like each other.

Zuko is confident and at peace with himself. His firebending is the best it has ever been and Azula is unhinged. So he stays on the defensive, exploits her weaknesses and exploits her unhinged mentality by antagonising her into fighting on his terms (e.g. “No lighting today?”) and making her do what he wants.

But Azula is fighting like Zuko. She is constantly on the offensive and driven by rage and a desperate need to prove herself. She’s caving under her family issues, feelings of abandonment and the slights that have been made on her honour. Because of this, she is blind to Zuko’s actions and can only focus on giving the battle her all and proving herself to her father. Hence why she falls for Zuko’s trap (e.g. “I’ll show you lightning!”)

I just love this show, and I find even more reasons to love it every day.

The Fall of Sunset Shimmer + Lullaby for a Princess

A quick juxtaposition. Because reasons.

After Hook cast the Dark curse, we were shown three waves of rainbow magic sweeping across town. It seemed like overkill at the time, but they were the perfect way to distract us from the fact Hook’s Dark Curse was never broken. Since the curse seems to follow the desires of the person who cast it, I thought it would be interesting to look at what that might mean.

“I want to hurt you, like you hurt me.”

Apart from Hook wanting what he always wanted when he cast the curse - revenge on the Dark One - he also revealed what he wanted to do to Emma when he found out he was the Dark One in Storybrooke. He wanted to hurt her like she hurt him… so how did she hurt him?

  • Turned him into a villain again, a person he didn’t want to be
  • Lied to him
  • Stood in the way of his revenge
  • Took away his agency
  • Controlled him
  • Chose to save Regina over being his happy ending
  • Stole his memories

Right away we saw him hurt Emma in retaliation by taking her memories after finding out he was the Dark One in Storybrooke. It was her last crime - in his eyes - that wasn’t accounted for under his curse. All the other ways in which she hurt him, he knew about when casting it. This means they already were part of the curse and his memory loss was the last thing that kept his curse from taking on its full effect in Storybrooke, but they were a slave to it as soon as they landed, maybe as soon as the smoke came. They were already compromised. Emma may have taken their memories without anticipating she would be under his spell once in Storybrooke. After she got there, she may not have been capable of cleaning up her own mess. It was only a matter of time before their entire world was bent to his wishes.

When Hook cast the curse, he was incredibly angry about Emma controlling him with Excalibur.

Emma: “I’m never going to try to control you again. I love you.”
Hook: “It’s just I’m usually the one who has to say that first.”
Emma: “Yeah, well…”

After that exchange - with Hook showing surprise about Emma expressing her love - they go to Camelot’s displaced Granny’s where Hook casts his curse almost right away. The anger driving him was all about creating a world where nobody controlled him - and one where he controlled Emma specifically.

Emma: “You were playing me the whole time.”
Hook: “Once you lied about Excalibur all bets were off. I knew it was just a matter of time before you tried controlling me. And now, no-one will ever control me again.”

She just promised him she wouldn’t try to control him again and she follows that up by telling him she loves him. Their kiss didn’t work to break the Dark One curse. Hook later goes to talk to Belle. He already suspected and now he knows for sure she was lying, especially if he feels certain of his love for her. If he wants to hurt her like she hurt him, it makes sense for the curse to take complete control of Emma. He would use emotional manipulation on top of the curse itself and take her lie about love and force her to live it.

In this light, the conversation where Emma tells Regina there is no Savior for the current curse takes on a new meaning. If Emma can’t really control what she does, she was working within the limitations of Hook’s curse already. She may not even be capable of being nice to Regina anymore - Hook was jealous she chose to save Regina - and she is incapable of telling her the truth. So she antagonizes her, trying to challenge her into being their Savior.

This conversation may mark real Emma’s final moments of resisting Hook’s curse, before she lost control over her life completely and became a slave to his desires. It was the only way to try and let Regina know she was powerless.

“Good you, still in there.”

The scene where Emma angrily tells Regina to step up and do what needs to be done reinforces this. Regina specifically describes seeing good Emma shining through. She’s right but the thing she doesn’t realize is that Emma isn’t limited by the Dark One curse, she isn’t compromised in the way Regina assumes. She’s limited by Hook’s curse. The good part of Emma is the one yelling at Regina, trying to give her a message. That’s why Regina doesn’t understand what Emma’s trying to say.

Gold warns her that ‘you always lose the ones you love the most’, after which Emma goes into the shed to cry over her memories in private. Just like the others Gold assumes she’s only under the influence of the Dark One curse. We are once again misled because we see Emma choosing Hook over and over again and the person who is most familiar with the Dark One curse tells us that she has a choice. Right reasoning, wrong curse. Emma can still cry in private, but she can’t tell anyone what’s really going on. She feels she’s already lost them at this point. It’s telling that the people she hurts the most as the Dark One are the people Hook has a vendetta against. Hook turns Emma into a villain like she did to him. Since then we’ve seen her become selfish and judgmental, acting like an addict when it comes to Hook.

When Hook regains his memories and takes her memories instead, it seems like Hook made it particularly easy for Emma to find the stolen memories, but can we be sure they weren’t edited? They were stolen and added to the curse with just one dreamcatcher™ while in Storybrooke there were several ones. Technically both Emma and Hook could have done their own editing. There may be memories the characters - and the audience - still don’t know about.

“Evil doesn’t always look evil. Sometimes it’s staring right at us, and we don’t even realize it.”

What we do know for sure is that this seems to mark the end of Emma fighting back. His Dark curse seems to be taking full effect. Hook gets forgiven for everything by everyone, Emma endangers her entire family and takes them to the Underworld for him after he tries to kill them all. Nobody questions it because the Dark One curse was lifted and Emma looks like herself again, but we were warned by Regina herself that evil doesn’t always look evil.

Emma seems to have identified Regina as the key to breaking this curse. Was it because there actually is a Savior for this curse - built in by Merlin who put it together? Darkness wants to snuff out the light, we know it came for Regina right away when it was free. The curse isn’t just Hook’s, it was described as the darkness using him to get what it wants. So his desires serve a greater purpose. If Regina is the one to bring back light together with Emma, then the darkness fighting the light and using Hook as a vessel - because it wants Emma and Regina apart… seems to have worked.

Or is it because Emma knows there really is no Savior, only leaving the most powerful magic of all as an option to break this curse? Knowing that it can only work if Regina loves her back. Was Emma giving Regina the dagger a way of telling her that she loved her and had the power to save her or destroy her depending on Regina’s feelings? After all True Love’s kiss up to that point was the only way we’d seen the Dark One curse almost being broken. Is Regina’s insecurity about being worthy of love the key to breaking this curse?

We’ve all noticed that Emma seems more like her old self as soon as she gets close to Regina. Regina is the only one who stands up to Hook and has expressed criticism since the curse took hold. It does seem like the curse has less of a hold on her. If all the heroes are compromised except for her, then at some point she will have to realize her power. She will have to rely on her inner compass instead of on mimicking what Emma and the Charmings do. Right now it could be she’s blinded because she still sees herself as a villain and them as heroes just because of their old labels.

“It’s like my whole life is darkness and when you’re around, things are brighter.”

When Lily told Emma she made her life more bright, Emma didn’t listen, now it seems like she is in the same position. She couldn’t understand how Lily could have everything she could only dream of and throw it all away. How she could still be unhappy. Now technically Emma too has everything she ever wanted and yet… it’s not what she needed.

Regina seems to be to Emma what Emma was to Lily in the past. We’ve seen it before. Regina doesn’t try to save Emma. In Neverland she taught Emma magic so she could turn on her own light while Hook and Neal were fighting over her. She has been loving and supporting Emma, going to the Underworld for her without expecting anything in return, saving her from the wish realm. Regina has been a light in that she tries to remind Emma of who she is, remind her of her own power. A light that brings clarity in its brightest moments.

The power of the Dark Hook curse seems tied to Storybrooke and Storybrooke’s magic. Emma acted more like herself when they left Storybrooke for New York and the magic was tied to the crystal. Proximity to the crystal seems to impact them. Regina and Emma were interacting like before and parenting Henry together. As soon as magic came back into the crystal, Hook came back and when they arrived back in Storybrooke, she went right back to him. In the wish realm Emma also acted more like her former self once she remembered who she was… until she returned to Storybrooke. Same with their time in the land behind the mirror where they were working together. Seems like there’s a bit of a pattern there.

“I should have known that Operation Cobra: Part Two wouldn’t have been as simple as I thought. Because it’s a sequel, and they’re always more involved than the original.”

What unifies the entire story is the Black fairy’s Dark curse. Everyone used and adjusted her basic recipe to cast it, but beyond that we can actually divide the story in two parts. Regina’s Dark curse was the original. Emma broke its hold and Regina herself destroyed it completely after sending Emma and Henry away taking them all back to the Enchanted Forest. The second part starts right after the missing year with Snow White’s curse. We know everyone’s memories were returned, but that part of the curse was Zelena’s addition, so since we never went back and Emma started giving in to Hook as soon as that curse was cast, we may also still be influenced by Snow’s desires. She even admitted she started planning Emma’s wedding after the first curse. Then Hook cast his curse and Emma marrying him while singing and dancing would definitely seem like something that would happen where Hook and Snow’s desires intersect.

The Black Fairy’s curse is now added to both of these curses, but they seem to form a whole. It seems like Regina possesses a particular power she is unaware of, so it makes sense that the Darkness used the desires of people like Snow and Hook to set the stage. Snow carries resentment towards the Evil Queen. She may want Regina to be happy, but that’s not all there is to it if you look at what happens as soon as Snow’s curse is cast. Regina falls for a man she previously wasn’t interested in, but she always keeps losing him… just like Snow kept losing Charming because of the Evil Queen. Marian showed up, putting Regina in the same position she was in when David was married to Kathryn. Snow also wishes very traditional things for her daughter, like a marriage and a man. Where Emma always kept a bit of a distance with Hook, after Snow’s curse, she started to let him in. Hook’s curse took all these things to the next level, with Emma torn by the desires of others and Regina far away from her. They barely interact.

Emma & Regina were always the power couple. Together they have defeated most of the threats to the town. So what did the darkness achieve, exactly? What did those two curses achieve? They weakened Emma and Regina’s bond and they kept them apart. We weren’t made to fear the Black fairy. She’s not the scariest villain we’ve ever had. What we are made to fear is that this is really how the story ends. What is everyone really going into the Final Battle for? What are we worried about? About the Black Fairy or about the fact that Emma Swan doesn’t seem like herself anymore and that Henry’s parents are talking even less now than back when they seemed to hate each other? What set this story in motion in the first place? We can sense that the Black Fairy and Gideon are a summary of all of Emma’s fears she needs to face in order to win. Emotionally, however, we all feel exactly what this battle is about.

The songs in Emma’s heart are all the elements that go into the final battle. In the past Hook says he doesn’t need Snow & Charming’s treasures, their gold or their title. In the present he married their golden-haired greatest treasure, which technically makes him a prince… but he’s shown right for the wedding he’s still driven by that same revenge from the past. Meanwhile Regina’s Evil Queen song is one about resisting love. She tears Emma’s baby blanket up, she gets upset when Granny sings about the princess and when Snow and Charming sing about their daughter, she sings about her happy ending at the same time. Emma carries this conflict in her heart. What’s different between Hook and Regina is that Regina isn’t the Evil Queen anymore. She has let love in. Self love. She loves Henry. She let Robin love her and cared about him. She has profoundly changed since singing that song.

As the Evil Queen mentioned earlier, there is a very thin line between love and hate…

…and they’ve both worked too hard to have their happiness destroyed.

So, this is it. The Final Battle indeed.

So a lot of people are interested in a Hanahaki AU

And that just makes me ridiculously happy. A few people have messaged me for more, and so here’s Part 2

So while Lance is waking up in the hospital after the surgery, Keith is just silently fuming with the others while they eat. Everyone’s avoiding the elephant in the room. Who was Lance in love with?

Keith didn’t know who she was, but there was a girl out there who almost killed Lance because she was too blind to how amazing he is and made him go through the pain of an unrequited love that almost killed him.

Then Shiro texts and says Lance is awake and Keith almost leaves everyone at the McDonald’s because they were taking too long to get in the damn car but they arrive at the hospital and everyone floods into Lance’s room just as the doctors leaving. Everyone’s hugging and crying and just making a mess of themselves because they’re so happy Lance is ok.

Then Lance looks over at Keith

And his smile dims a bit and he looks confused. “Uh, who are you?”

Everyone in the room freezes. Keith can’t breath. He tells Lance to stop joking around because he’s not funny, but Lance is genuinely confused and a little annoyed because this complete stranger just waltzed into his hospital room and now he’s insulting him? Fuck him… who ever he is.

Thats when the reality of the situation starts to hit Keith. It was him. Lance was in love with him. His world was falling apart.

“Why didn’t you tell me?! You idiot, why didn’t you tell me?!” Shiro has to drag him out of the room to calm down but he can’t calm down because Lance was in love with him and he broke his heart.

Inside the hospital room, everyones trying to get over their shock and explain to Lance that no, Keith wasn’t a stranger. They ask if he can remember anything about Keith, but nothings there. He can remember getting into a fight on the first day of school with …. someone. He can remember getting birthday gifts, but can’t remember giving them to anyone. He can remember an empty space between Shiro and Lance, just enough for another person to stand. Keith’s just became an empty space or a blurry face in his memory.

Once outside the hospital Keith makes a confession to Shiro. He’s at the first stage of Hanahaki himself and takes medication to keep the flowers from blooming. He’s been in love with Lance for the past year but it was unrequited. And now Lance doesn’t even remember him.

(Now he needs to start over and make Lance fall for him one more time)

please consider trying to help maybe...

hi my name is lennon logan and i’m a soon to be 17 year old trans boy living in allen, texas. i’m walking a very thin line in my current household with a very unpredictable verbally abusive mother who is currently on disability because she is slowly going blind.

the jist of this situation is that i’m not doing very well in school because i am mentally ill- and with lack of decent health insurance, i currently have the same diagnosis i received when i was 13 years old despite the fact it’s clearly inaccurate; as a result my mother reminds me every single day that if i fail one class this second semester, i will be kicked out of the home with nowhere to turn.

i’m aware of the fact this could easily be avoided if i devoted every second to my school work, but i am unable to sit down for hours on end and do a single task without being overwhelmed, and eventually dissociating.

i’m not trying to say i’m not going to try at all, but i’m afraid i’m just very uncertain of whether or not i will be able to pass every single class; in the event that happens, i need somewhere to go until i can figure something out.

the tensions in the household are currently very high so in all honesty, sometimes i feel as if i’m not even guaranteed another night here.

i am simply trying to prepare for the worst because if i am to be ejected from the home, my mother is planning on stripping me of any personal electronics and funds, leaving me with nothing but a pack of clothes.

if this is to happen, the ideal plan would be to have someone’s phone number i could reach via a telephone at the walmart only 2 minutes away from my current home by foot, and hopefully have a ride to a safe location…

i have not planned this out very much, but i could use the help to execute something similar by someone who is willing while also having the ability to do so…

please, please message me via IM if you’re in a position where you could provide any assistance! and if you don’t mind, please try to reblog to spread this around.

Snape x blind 6th year student reader where snape makes fun of her in class without realising that she's blind because she's always managed well, until she makes some sassy comment and he then realises and then later on he finds her crying in a corridor because some Slytherin's decided to drag her somewhere and get her lost..

continued: Snape brings her back to his room as it’s too late to get into the gryffindor common room and she asks if she can do something odd and he accepts so she feels his face to see what he looks like. And can she also mention something about how nice his voice is? Thanks :))

Hey sunshine,

Sure, I will do my best! I hope you like it.

AND I proclaim that it happens before Potter comes along (like a year or three before that); so Snape is relatively young, but not tortured by Lily’s death.

Name: I do not want you to leave.

“Ms. Y/L/N,” you hear Snape’s voice right over your head, so you flinch, almost dropping your wand in the potion. “Do you know the difference between red and yellow? Or are all colors of the Gryffindor flag same to you?” you freeze. You were sure you did everything correctly, checked the tags on the chemicals at least four times before using each one of them. They all were correct.

“No, sir,” you answer quietly.

“Then why on Earth would you put in the powder of rat’s bones instead of the powder of the poppy seeds? Or did you decide to improve my own recipe by exploding the whole castle?”

“I… I am sure I put in the right ingredient. Are you sure you wrote the right instructions?” Snape’s breathing gets quieter and must more hateful, so you can almost feels how much he wants to strangle you.

“Are you questioning my ability to write, miss?”

“No, only your ability to label the ingredients properly, with the correct usage of Braille,” you answer calmly. “I used the ingredients with the correct tags.”

“Braille?” you nod. “You are blind.”

“Uhm… So hard to notice the dark glasses, cane, and the weird way of walking? Professor, you may need to check your ability to see students, you are doing much worse than I am,” your classmates pulls your sleeve, hoping that you would stop before Snape decides to kill you, but he seems to not be willing to.”

“My… apologies,” he answers finally, much quieter than before. You hear him whisper something under his breath, and the potion in front of you disappears. “I will make sure the ingredients are labeled properly from now on,” you nod and hear him walk away, his robe swishing by your side.

“Hate those Slytherins,” you murmur later that evening, as you are walking around the basement, trying to find your way out. The most annoying thing ever is probably when those morons get you as a group and abandon you in the middle on the basements, so you spend there whole night, trying to find a way back to the Gryffindor tower.

“Miss Y/L/N?” you hear Snape’s voice coming from somewhere, so you turn around.

“Oh, Professor Snape? What a lucky meeting, I’ve been looking for you all over the place,” you smile at him. “How are you doing, sir?”

“You have been looking for me just to ask how I am doing?” you nod. “I am doing well despite having a student walking around the castle in the middle of the night.”

“Then I shall return to my room, professor,” you answer calmly, turning around, then stopping and turning back to him. “Uhm… Professor?”

“Yes?” you can almost feel how he is sarcastically lifting an eyebrow - your classmates told you that’s what he keeps doing to show sarcasm.

“Could you… Could you point me in the direction of the Gryffindor tower, sir?” Snape walks up to you and gently grabs your shoulder. “Sir?”

“Let me walk you, miss. You don’t have your wand or your cane, I suppose it’s only adequate that I make sure you make it to your room before morning.”

“Thank you, sir,” you murmur, and Snape simply keeps pushing you forward, one hand almost wrapped around your shoulders.

“I do need you to tell me who did that,” he notices at some point, when you are walking upstairs. “Who was it?”

“Just a Slytherin kid,” you shrug your shoulders. “It’s always them, but you may have guessed that I am not that good at remembering faces.”

“Very funny. I will make sure they are punished. Careful,” Snape quickly pulls you closer, as the staircase, which you almost stepped on, starts rapidly moving.

“Thanks,” he nods, not hurrying to let go of you.

“You really should be more careful,” Snape slowly releases you and leads you in the tower, then to your room. “You have your own because of the vision impairment?”

“Yes, sir,” you drop on the bed and smile. “God, I missed this place.”

“Well, now, that you are safe…”

“Professor, may I ask to do something… odd?” you ask quietly, and he agrees, sitting by your side. You do wonder why he seems to care for you. “Sir, permission to… see your face?” he doesn’t answer, so you lean forward and slightly touch his face, brushing your fingers against his eyelids and lips. “Wow.”

“I suppose you understand that this act should remain between us and not be discussed with other students, miss?” you smile and nod quickly, your hand sliding down his jaw and neck, when Snape catches your fingers. “Miss?” you smile apologetically, and Snape lets go of your hand.

“I am sorry, sir.”

“That’s alright. Miss Y/L/N, you really should go to sleep. It’s past midnight,” Snape slowly pulls away, as you smile sadly.

“You do have an amazing voice, sir… It fits you,” you murmur, as you lean back and crawl in a ball under a blanket. Snape giggles, or makes somehow similar sound, not going anywhere for some reason - just sitting there next to you.

“What career are you going to pursue after you leave Hogwarts?” he asks finally. “I never ask that, but your case seems rather…”

“Unusual?” you grin. “Yeah, people tend to believe that I am not complete without the vision… I was thinking of doing potions, but that seems quite impossible without a good assistant. So I will probably stick to the ministry work… And kill myself because of it,” you grin again.

“You may want to stay in Hogwarts.”

“As a librarian? I don’t think so.”

“As my assistant. I am looking for one, and you are doing quite well for your disability. Incredibly well, actually, you could become a good potions master,” you sit up, not understanding what the hell was happening.

“Professor, what is wrong?”

“Only that Dumbledore requires for me to hire an assistant from the current students, and I dread the thought of hiring any one from the Slytherin… our dear director is a Gryffindor, there is no way he will let me get one more Slytherin. Also, you are very good.”

“Sounds… too flattering. Professor, I am blind, but I am not dumb. Why are you offering me this job? It’s Hogwarts, a great place, officially the highest salary in the educational institutions in magical Britain… Professor, why?” he sighs, raising his hand and slowly stroking your cheek, brushing his finger against your lips. Snape breathes in, terribly slowly.

“Because I do not want you to leave,” he answers quietly, and you freeze, really wishing you could see his face right now. And, as if knowing it, Snape gently takes your hand and allows you to touch his face, your fingers running by the his stressed forehead and the tensed muscles, as if he is about to erase your memory and run away if anything happens.

“I don’t want to leave,” you answer just as quietly, your fingers stroking his jaw, as Snape carefully puts his hand on your waist and pulls you closer, pressing his lips against yours.

yes-everhopeful  asked:

Who do I have to bribe to get a hug out of Bellamy and Marcus? I feel like if they've gotten this painful part of their history out in the open maybe it's another step to actually being the father and son neither have known but it's really like a tease of when it'll happen. After kabby it's my favorite relationship.

So here’s what I think.

I think the theme of “from the ashes we will rise” is being applied very literally to a couple of these characters, most clearly so far Kane and the Blakes (which is ironic because a few episodes ago they were the three where I was the most concerned the show had no idea what to do with them, but they CLEARLY do after that fucking fantastic episode last night).  Kane, Bellamy and Octavia all are getting burned down to ashes.  They’re literally hitting their absolute lowest point.  We saw Octavia turn the corner in tonight’s episode, after being so distraught that she tried to kill herself by walking out into the black rain and then having sex with Ilian just to give herself something to feel besides crushing, miserable sorrow.  That was her “ashes” moment, everything burned away, reduced to her lowest, darkest point.  But then she woke up in the morning and she threw her knives into the water and left them behind, because after she almost died, she’s become a person who can’t kill anymore.  Ilian was right that whatever release that used to provide for her is gone.  And she’s already different, as we can see from the way she can see Ilian’s humanity in a new way that she couldn’t before because she was blinded by anger.  So now Octavia has come out of the ashes and she’s about to rise.  I don’t know what she’s gonna do but I know that every single person involved in the show who has been asked which character has the best arc this season has said Octavia, so it’s probably going to be something awesome.

I think for Kane and for Bellamy, both separately and together, what we got last night was their “ashes” moment, with the turnaround and resolution still to come.  Bellamy is overwhelmed by the sheer number of people he can’t save, by his feelings of failure, by his fear for Octavia, and by the collective series of losses he’s experienced that all came back up again at once when he was stuck in the Rover in the mud.  And Kane is in a similar position; all he wants to do is help everyone and he can’t help anybody.  He can’t comfort Bellamy, he can’t save his two stranded people, he can’t protect Harper from her guilt or heal the man she’s watching die, he can’t be there with Abby when she has to do the hardest thing she’s ever done in her life, he can’t bring Octavia home, and also - crucially - he can’t erase the things that he did on the Ark, even though he’s been trying since he landed on Earth to repent and be better as though that could wipe those sins away.  So they both end this episode at the lowest of their low points in four whole seasons, and I don’t think it’s accidental that it happens when Clarke and Abby - who are the people who keep both of them grounded and make them feel understood - are so far out of reach.

But Octavia was down in the dark place too, and she turned the corner and came back around into the light.  She’s rising from the ashes.  So I think Bellamy and Kane are next.  I think Kane’s arc for the rest of the season was set up very neatly by this episode and that it’s going to connect in some way with Jaha’s, and that we’re going to explore the question of whether Kane becoming a better man made him a less effective leader, and whether Jaha’s political savvy and ability to manipulate a situation to his advantage was, as Clarke tells Jasper in that scene in the brig, a whole lot more vital to keeping the peace on the Ark than anyone (INCLUDING ME TBH????) ever gave Jaha credit for.  So I think a Kane/Jaha team-up where we see maybe an inversion of Season 1 (Jaha as Kane’s second-in-command instead of Kane as Jaha’s?) might emerge as the connective thread between the Cadogan story and the Arkadia story and that Kane is going to be instrumental in finding a way to lead his people and prove himself and save them.  And I think his relationship with Bellamy will be key to that; we got that “you turn the page and you don’t look back” moment from them in the season premiere that I think was really significant and it feels like the show is setting us up for their big “rise from the ashes” moment to be something that involves them working together.

Because the important thing to remember is that every facet of their complicated relationship can be equally true at the same time; Kane is the man who floated Bellamy’s mom, and neither Kane nor we can dismiss that even if we want to; but he’s also one of the only characters in this entire show that Bellamy has ever opened up to like he does when he talks about his mom and baby Octavia in that heartbreaking scene over the radio.  So his anger at Kane for the loss of his mom, which is real, and which has always been there, does not erase the relationship they’ve built on the ground, because he’s still someone Bellamy feels safe enough with that he can let Kane see him cry.  I think looking at it like “ugh Bellamy was being a dick” misses the depth and complexity of all the different emotional truths that were contained in those scenes.

This relationship is so, so hugely important to both of them individually and to the show, but they had to confront the one big thing between them that they’ve never confronted before - just the way Octavia had to finally, finally, finally really confront her grief for Lincoln - in order to burn all the way down into ashes so they can rise.

I’m not giving up on a Kellamy hug yet, and neither should you.  They’re still a family.

Hi! Big fan of you cfau fic! Was just wondering if you have any detailed descriptions of the clexa apartment? How many bedrooms, which kids share rooms, if they have bunkbeds, which room was originally the nursery, do they share a backyard/pool/common area with the rest of the building, how big is Lexa's office, does Clarke have her own studio inside the apartment.. from what I can imagine, it seems massive and hella expensive? Thank you for your time ❤

Hey! Sorry that I didn’t have a chance to reply to this yesterday. Yes, I obviously know exactly what this apartment looks like. I actually have a pretty clear layout of it in my head, but seeing as I can’t draw and I’m not an architect who can do it digitally either then pictures will have to do.

I’m approaching this as I would if I was having this conversation with my production designer, set dresser, art director, and prop master for one of my films. I’m going to pull up references with the caveat that each individually aren’t exactly The Look, but if you take pieces from all of them and add a few original touches then you can kind of figure out what these sets are like in my head.

APARTMENT BASICS

The apartment is fairly big. 6 bedrooms (1 master bedroom, 4 for the kids, and the other one is Lexa’s office) and there is a back room/laundry room thing by the kitchen that Clarke also uses as her home studio. That one is not huge, but it does the job. If she has bigger commissions for paintings or the rare sculpting/installations she does, then she has tons of artist connections and friends that let her use their bigger studio spaces as needed.

  • How can they afford this in New York?

Clarke’s family has never been Rich, but they’ve always been well off. On top of that, Clarke was the person named in Jake’s life insurance policy and his sole heir. All of that was in a trust until she was 21. Lexa was already around by that time and if there is someone who is stingy and good with money it’s Lexa Woods. Lexa, being the perennially responsible one, insisted Clarke was careful with that cash. They got a professional to manage that money and do some investments for them. They live in New York after all and no city has a surplus of finance guys like NYC. They never touched any of the money and on top of that saved for like five years before they decided to become homeowners. Between all the money/assets Clarke inherited, plus Jake’s life insurance, plus their savings, plus the fact that Clarke makes GOOD money working at the gallery not only selling her own stuff but being Dante’s main art dealer, they were in a pretty comfortable place when it came down to actually buying an apartment. Knowing that Clarke also sells a considerable amount of pieces through commissions for the private clients she has, Lexa sort of gave in when Clarke insisted they splurge and get a really fucking nice place. They were buying. It was their forever home, so why not go all out? That was Clarke’s sell.

Keep in mind though that Clarke and Lexa have always had starkly different approaches to money. Lexa grew up poor and logically she’s very careful with it. Lexa’s not like a cheapass, but she’s very measured and pragmatic about managing money and finances. Typical Lexa. Lexa is also a public servant. She isn’t getting rich out of working in the DAs office. Lexa could go work at any of the private firms that try to reel her in constantly and make as much as what Clarke makes (if not more), but Lexa loves what she does where she does it so she pays no mind to the fact that Clarke’s checks put hers to serious shame. Clarke can make as much as Lexa does in a year if she has a good couple of months worth of sales commissions at the gallery. Easily. It actually happens more than anyone would think. Because of how she grew up and because she knows she’s in a very comfortable place at the gallery and her career in general, Clarke sometimes borders on reckless when it comes to spending. Just another way in which Clarke and Lexa balance each other out.

So yeah, it took a lot of convincing, but they had the money to put a really nice amount up front which meant the mortgage wasn’t going to be outrageous. Lexa also made Clarke promise that if there were some good sales of her work throughout the year it was all going to the mortgage just so they could pay it off sooner and get it off their plate. Clarke agreed and they started looking for places in the best parts of Manhattan. They found one they both fell in love with and they bought it. They didn’t move into the new place until Anya was around eleven months old. The apartment was paid off around the same time Costia left for college, meaning they kept to their plan and got done with that in less than half of the 30 years their mortgage was for.

COMMON AREAS

The apartment has the typical Living Room, Dining Room, Kitchen areas plus Lexa’s office.

Lexa really couldn’t care less about furniture or what pillow goes with what couch so Clarke obviously takes point on all the styling/interior design/decoration of the place. She only really has two parameters: not too many colors because Lexa really is a fan of simplicity and to not make Lexa cry with the number of zeroes on things. More than once Lexa has been known to utter “That chair cost HOW MUCH?!!!” to which Clarke usually has a “Don’t worry. The designer is a friend. He’ll give it to us for half.” reply all ready to be fired. And Lexa has an aneurysm because “Half is still more than I make in a month, Clarke!”. Sometimes it takes a little smooth talking (and by that I mean Clarke asking while they’re having sex) but Clarke always gets the things she wants.

Clarke tends to keep the furniture and the walls pretty neutral. Where the bursts of color come in is in the art she picks for the apartment. The walls are covered with really strikingly vibrant pieces that make every room rich and feel thoroughly alive.

Here are some references for what I see the Living Room, Dining Room, Kitchen, and Lexa’s office looking like:

BEDROOMS

  • CLARKE & LEXA

Like I said, Lexa is a fan of minimal and clean. In the chapter where Clarke wakes up in her bedroom after they have sex for the first time I believe I described Lexa’s bedroom as “monochromatic” and that is so accurate for Lexa. She’s a fan of white, black, greys, and browns. Unless Clarke is the one who buys her something, Lexa would stick to wearing those colors exclusively. That translates pretty clearly to the decor around the house, but specially their bedroom. Clarke knew she could go crazy anywhere else, but she would give Lexa the simple black and white bedroom.

There may be a pop of color with a piece of art or a new duvet or something, but overall, Clarke keeps it pretty sleek and minimal.

  • THE KIDS

Clarke spends A LOT of time making sure each of the kids gets the room they want. They all have some sort of mural or intricate wall design that Clarke spent hours doing specifically for them.

    • Costia

Costia’s room is all about music. It has a lot of personality even though it doesn’t have a lot of color except for the collage wall that her and Clarke put together. Being Lexa’s mini me as she is, Costia is really into greys and whites and black. She doesn’t necessarily stick to them when it comes to her wardrobe, but her room has always been fairly muted in regards to furniture, bed dressings, and general decor.

    • Anya

Anya is OBSESSED with neon. To like a crazy and absurd degree. She’s also an Aesthetic Hoe so her room is probably the most unique one. They let her put neon signs all over her room and Clarke painted a mural with glowing UV paint on her walls so during the daytime or if the blinds are open her walls look plain and white, but once the lights go off they turn into this crazy ridiculous thing and Anya adores every bit of it. Needless to say, the sun doesn’t shine much in that room because she keeps those blinds closed as often as possible.

    • Jake

Jake’s room was about baseball. They got him a custom made bed frame and custom made furniture to fit the theme. His is probably the room that had the most external influences because everyone got stuff that was already made for their furniture but Jake’s was unique. All Clarke did there was the mural.

    • Roa

Roa’s room is worthy of a kid with her imagination. It’s bright and colorful and fun. It’s also about her favorite thing in the world: The Lion King. Clarke paints murals on each wall AND on the furniture to make every single thing in there jungle themed.

    • Aden

Jake’s room eventually turns into Aden’s nursery. Clarke keeps it pretty simple yet classy blue and grey for the little dude.

I think that should cover all of it??? Hopefully I touched on all the info you requested and that this helps picture the living spaces better! We spend a lot of the story here after all. :)

Detective! Bodhi x Reader

Plot Summary: John MacArthur was found dead in his home on March 3rd, 2017. His family, especially his wife and sister in law, are emotionally distressed. His neighbor is strangely nonchalant, a former prostitute has been demanding child support, and the weapon is nowhere to be found. New LAPD detective Bodhi Rook has been assigned to this murder, and has been paired up with you, one of the precinct’s finest. Try not to let your emotions hinder the case, detective.

Bodhi exited the conference room with a skip in his step when you had left to fill out a line-up for Jyn’s investigation. However, Cassian had stopped him.

“Bodhi… I heard what you said to Y/N in the conference room.” Cassian sighed, as Bodhi nodded.

“I know, my heart was just racing that whole time! I thought for sure she was going to say no!” Bodhi chuckled, until Cassian groaned. “What? Was that bad?”
