because real life is.. too much

Friday

Saw a different doctor this week because of scheduling, I liked her , I don’t know if I go back to seeing my regular doctor next time or not

So, I guess we watch game of thrones now

Also watching the leftovers, toby doesn’t real like that one but I do

Trying to sew a dress , it makes me feel crazy but satisfied all at the same time

New responsibilities at work, so much training, such a headache. My mother and I are both too old for this shit. I have to master it so she can retire for good

Sometimes I change my mind about people, sometimes I change my mind about myself. Sometimes I like things I thought I’d hate and sometimes I grow to hate things I used to love. Sometimes I can’t make up my mind because I don’t like any of the options and sometimes it’s because I like all of them too much. No one has everything figured out and some people don’t have anything figured out, but that’s called living and it means we’re real.
Heartbreak is not being in love at 16 with some silly boy who doesn’t love you back, despite what they say. Real heartbreak is not getting to experience the important things in life because you’re too damn strung up on a boy who won’t remember your name in a month. So, darling, find happiness in the smallest things, like being awake at 5:38am and watching the sunrise, or staying up until 01:30am sat outside looking at the stars because “looking into infinity you’ll realise there’s much more to life than what you do everyday.” Find happiness in the way your best friend laughs at your jokes that no one else besides her would understand. Find happiness in the way your mother makes your favourite dinner just because she saw you in a bad mood. Or find happiness in finally finishing your favourite book that you took forever to pick up and read. But most importantly, find happiness within yourself.

I was in the studio and I was thinking about all of the people that I probably could’ve had really cool relationships with that I didn’t give the time of day to because I was too insecure to interpret their feelings as real. It was easier for me to write them off and think ‘Oh, they must say that to everybody’ or 'Oh, they don’t really love me’ or to create problems in them because of my own insecurities, to think they didn’t really like me that much. It was like 'When I love myself then I can love someone else.’

This is your heart, and you should never let it rule your head…I’ve always assumed that love is a dangerous disadvantage. Thank you, for the final proof.

gravitality  asked:

I have two questions! First: have you ever thought of doing a tarot card suit for your characters? I think it'd work really well for them! And two: help me how do I draw legs

@gravitality

Hi!! I’ve absolutely been thinking about that, yeah, in fact I recently talked about that to my boyfriend just recently. It’ll likely happen after october! And to answer your second question! I made a thing on legs that i hope you’ll find useful!!

So. I’ve already explained basics on legs here, but I don’t think it hurts to go through some extra details to help you understand legs some more.

The very basic thing is to imagine legs as teardrops. Again, this has already been covered in said tutorial above, but I figured it’s still good to mention even the most basic thing that I know of. I still highly recommend you check it out to get in more detail and to see some other examples and practices that you do. But basically, think of legs in the shapes of teardrops, when it comes to shape. If you need a simple stick-figure to connect the legs in the first place, make sure that they bend at the knees a bit so that the legs don’t come off as stiff and unnatural.

As you can see, this method works perfectly for realistic legs as it does for stylistic ones. Remember to use these as a guideline, never to be the exact base of the legs you will be drawing. If you draw traditionally, remember not to draw these guides too hard, or they will be hard to erase/do freestyle!

But how do you actually draw out the legs without drawing them perfectly straight, as shown to the left? The trick is to add volume to them, and how you do that can be winged to your own liking. The idea is to think in curves. As no leg is perfectly straight. You may make these curves minimal if you don’t want them to be curvy, but keep in mind, still, that not even your own bones are perfectly straight, so it is highly recommended that you make them bend, at least a little.

It all depends on how you draw them as well. Say you put your legs together, as shown in this picture, what happens to the fat and muscle? Naturally, they press together, much like how thighs squish on the surface when you sit down (I’m sure most people know what I’m talking about). Make sure this shows in your art! This is very important to keep in mind, because it makes it all look more natural and believable. Try to cross your legs or stand up and sit down again for real-life examples!

The same applies for stretching your legs, more or less, except they appear to become more ‘hollow’ and slimmer. They become less soft to the touch, too, and might show. Try stretching your legs and feel where the muscles tense and where it feels ‘hollow’. This is very helpful with your art.

Many leg tutorials talk about legs without mentioning the behind. It requires a tutorial on it’s own, in all honesty, but this is the most simplest way to draw it connecting to the legs. Remember that it comes in many different shapes, and this is just a super basic guide! Two circles overlapping, while following the line and flow of the legs. Remember the muscle/fat as mentioned above!

Okay, so we got the basics of leg shapes figured out? What if you want o draw them in a certain pose, or with a certain silhouette, but perhaps do not have the reference for it? Or you want to blend your style into it? The key is to not shy away from doodling the form. Make mess, draw lightly and don’t care about the anatomy. That way you’ll get everything down without it appearing stiff. You can clean up the sketch later, always, and if you can, use a reference after you have drawn your pose, to correct your drawing.

Remember that the hips do a lot to the pose of the legs! Make sure they are in flow with your legs, so that it can look more natural. Remembers that hips ‘rotate’ with the spine.

I’ve talked about this method before when it comes to posing, and the same applies for the legs. One way to make legs appear ‘steady’ is to picture them standing in a line, and one of those legs need not to stray from the lines too much, making it steady. If you want a dynamic pose despite the steady pose, you can always have the other leg stray from the line, since it only matters that one leg is steady. This method can create good, casual poses without making them appear boring. (also notice how the teardrop shapes are used here, despite the highly stylized legs)

Do you want a highly dynamic pose, or them to appear unsteady, then skip the line entirely and make both legs aim away from it completely. As you can see, the legs appear more moving, in action, as if they’re fighting, falling, or dancing. As you can imagine, this is not a pose that one could stay steady on, suggesting that it’s taken mid-movement. More about posing and this ‘line’ method is talked about in this tutorial.

Hope this helped you, if you have any questions let me know, and if you’d like to check out all my tutorials they can be found here!

Problems with the Witchblr Community

There are some serious fucking problems occurring on this website, like:

  1. Peoples’ grimoires are way too artistic. Like seriously you all need to tag that shit like “hey this may trigger you because this Van Gogh beautifully-crafted art style might blind you and gush your morality with its beauty and cause your perspective of your own grimoire/BOS to wilt like a flower on fire”. I don’t take the time to even update my BOS, never mind decorate it with these gorgeous illustrations.
  2. The quality of pictures are way too high. I don’t know where people are getting all these professional cameras. Like I take pictures with my phone or shitty Samsung and post them, and I know I wouldn’t even reblog that shit, the quality is way too low. This results in a standard of high quality Instagram-worthy pictures that is too high for me to keep up with, y’all need to lower your photography skills.
  3. Peoples’ altars are too perfectly positioned in the sunlight, like bathing in the holiness of the sun or moon and washing any of vestige of mortality away from that spot. This kinda weaves into the photography complaint but basically, y’all stop being so artsy.
  4. Digital sigils are too easily and perfectly displayed. I don’t know how people make those sigils, it’s like an elusive angelic society that just sprinkles down talent and useful spells like falling stars. Seriously y’all need to post a how-to on that shit because I don’t have a tablet and just take pictures of hand-drawn sigils, but even those who post their hand-drawn sigils draw them incredibly better than I draw my sigils.
  5. The witches on this site are way too creative. They’re all thinking of tips and techniques I never thought of before, and it makes everyone else feel dumb because they didn’t think of them first.
  6. Pretty much every witch on this site seems to have a green thumb. They say taking care of plants doesn’t require a green thumb, but I beg to differ because pretty much every plant I own dies. Like I don’t know if it’s because I’m a death witch and am literally radiating death energy, but I can’t keep plants alive for my own life. Green witches gotta share their real secrets, HOW are you keeping your plants alive.
  7. Then there are some problems like elitism, transphobia, homophobia, racism, nazism, blatant disrespect for peoples’ religions and cultures, the hatred with which we argue, and the fear that I’m always being scrutinized and that no matter what I say extreme SJWs will cherry-pick the things I say and misconstrue my argument into something i never said in the first place so i might as well just not even say my opinion on anything which i’m doing right now so i’ll just shut up and continue the joke
  8. The spooky and ethereal Witch Aesthetic™ is too on point. All the hanging herbs and lit candles and smoke from incense are too entrancing and immediately calm my mood and cause me to daydream about the eloquence of the witchy aesthetic. It’s too romanticized. It causes me to enjoy my own craft too much, and I reblog too many of them. We need to cut those down by a bunch.

Just had to get that off my chest.

Being with you is my favorite thing and when I leave you I almost feel like it wasn’t real. Like I dreamed it all up. I usually have so much control over my feelings and I will be completely honest I have tried so much to not think of you but nothing ever works. You fill my entire mind and you have ever since that night in November when you talked to me about music and let me wear your flannel when I was cold. I am a fool for you and I’m done with hiding how I feel because it’s all too much.

Libra & Emotion ♎️🎭

(I’m not a professional but I’m a Libra Sun, Libra Moon, with Libra Dominance, and a 7th house stellium so I think this comes from a place of first hand experience)

Libra suns, like other air signs, do tend to detach from their emotions but not in the same way. Libra hates conflict. They hate tension and uneasiness. They need stability and reliability. Because emotions can be unpredictable, Libras feel the need to water their feelings down. Think of it as a filter. They try to rationalize and sort each emotion, find out the source, and put it into its proper place. So say if someone was rude to Libra, instead of reacting like their sister sign Aries would, Libra would accept the rudeness and then continue about their day thinking how and why that happened.

Libra also tends to put their feelings on a larger context. They ask themselves, I feel this way because this happened to me, but doesn’t everyone feel this exact way when this happens? So by concluding that everyone experiences a certain feeling, Libra decides they don’t need that feeling. If emotions don’t help a Libra, they get rid of them. And by get rid of them, I mean they either try to rationalize them so they don’t exist or they just try to ignore it.

Libra will ‘reject’ feelings if they do not believe they have the right to feel that way. For example, if a single Libra sees a cute couple they might have a pang of envy and feel resentment towards the couple in love. But then Libra will go “oh this is just my own bitterness, they haven’t done anything wrong, I’m just being unreasonable” and they’ll tell themselves to stop feeling like that.

Libra will also pick and choose what emotions to experience based on their environment. This sounds really weird I know. But if they’re in a group and everyone is wild and goofy and impulsive, Libra will match their behavior and try to match their emotions. For example, I won’t be excited about a something until someone else is and I feed off their energy.

Libra moons are a little more difficult to understand. They filter their feelings based on what’s “just and proper,” what benefits those around them, and what benefits themselves. Libra moon will choose to delete emotions they don’t know how to deal with. They also tend to never talk about their feelings. Or, and I’m guilty of doing this, will complain about small things so that their friends won’t ask what’s REALLY wrong on a deeper level (because if I never complained about anything, they would be concerned). Libra moons will avoid talking about their feelings. They like to help others though and by helping others, they learn about themselves. They can sometimes act as therapists, asking others how they feel about a certain situation and then those Libra moons will apply what they learned to their own lives.

After talking to other Libra moons on here, I’ve learned that I’m not alone in that Libra moons often feel hollow. Like there’s a cavern in our hearts. Most days it feels unfillable. Our emotions can overwhelm us and so we feel numb. Happiness is dulled, sadness is dulled until everything feels “meh.” There are many days when by all accounts we should be happy or excited but aren’t. It’s like eating bittersweet candy. You don’t really understand the flavor. It has both the sweetest and the sour mixed up together. Our emotions get all jumbled up together, we have trouble trying to separate them because we see how things can have both pros and cons.

Many Libra moons (and suns and 7th house stelliums) feel a continual longing. Specifically, longing for a relationship. There’s an incessant need for partnership, for a companion, to be understood. When that isn’t being fulfilled, it makes our lives imbalanced, throwing our emotions even farther off balance. At the end of the day, despite deflecting attention onto others, we secretly need love and a lot of it. The angsty phrase “I build walls just to see who cares enough to climb over” really applies here. Yes, we give other people a lot of attention. Part of that is to weed out who just likes us to listen and who actually wants to listen to us. We sort out the people who use us for validation from the people who actually care about us. When we find that there’s way more people who only use us, we can become depressed. There’s nothing quite as disheartening to a Libra moon than realizing that all your friends and family don’t ever stop to genuinely wonder how you’re doing. Despite Libra being called the fakest sign, we put that front up on purpose just to see who’s brave enough to look underneath. And unfortunately, very few people are willing to do so. Libra is a people pleaser and will seek companionship even if it is only superficial, but we will never be satisfied until we get that soulmate level connection we are looking for.

EDIT: thanks to @airmom I was reminded of a couple more key features When we do accept our emotions for what they are, it can be extremely hard to let go of them. It becomes like a grudge. Years can go by but when reminded of a situation, our feelings are just as strong as the day it originally happened. Libras tend not to hold grudges, but when they do, they hold them forever. Betrayal really hits home with this sign. If you betray a Libra’s trust, they may act like everything’s fine, they might still be friends with you, you might never even know your actions upset them, but Libras will never truly forgive you for it. This type of resentment just builds up over time. And Libras know logically that they should just get over it, but won’t. (Never tell a Libra “That was years ago, just get over it.” We can’t. We won’t. We’ll hate you for saying this because it implies we haven’t tried. We’ve tried moving on, and we already water down so many of our other emotions, just let us have this, ok?) Libras also will push to the side stuff they don’t want to deal with. They shove it into their closet so to speak. They won’t speak about it or acknowledge that it’s even there. But eventually the closet gets full and it all comes bursting out. Libras can be volcanoes. One little thing can set them off. If a Libra ever snaps seemingly out of nowhere, it’s because they’ve put off dealing with their emotions. Likely, they’re not mad at one little thing, but rather a whole month or year’s worth of frustrations. So if a Libra yells at you, it’s best just to shut up and listen. If they’re in this frame of mind and you start arguing back, they will never ever ever open up to you again. If a Libra actually trusts you enough to tell you what they’re feeling and you try to argue with them or put the blame on them, know that you’ll never earn their trust back. Ever. The next day they might act completely normal, but know this is a front and that they are mentally stabbing you. Again I just want to reiterate here that Libras do not often publicly express their anger (for fear of how others will react) so if they cry or scream in front of you, they’re at their most vulnerable and need your support. Most of the time, support in that situation is just shutting up and listening. Don’t give advice unless they ask. Just nod. Just care. And if they’re up for it, give them a hug. Not a wimpy one. A real hug. Squeeze them and tell them you love them. Libras just want to be understood.

Libras (especially moons) are daydreamers. This is a way out of dealing with reality. Libras escape in their fantasies. They write novels, direct movies, become superheroes, act out music, etc all in their heads. They’ll imagine real life situations over and over. This is why when things don’t go according to plan, they’ll become frustrated. Sometimes they just wish people could read their thoughts because it’s just hard to communicate them. The on,y time you’ll ever find a Libra unfiltered is in their fantasies. It’s the one place they let themselves be free and selfish. The world demands so much of them, their daydreams are their only escape. Libra has a strong martyr complex too. If they can’t find their inner peace, they’ll help you find yours. If they can’t be happy, they’ll try to cheer you up. If they haven’t laughed in ages, they’ll tell jokes until your eyes water and stomach hurts from giggling. They know what hollowness is like, what chaos and imbalance and self hatred is like. They help you be strong so they can tell themselves they will be strong one day too.

Because Saturn exalts in Libra, many Libras feel extreme self-hatred, unworthiness, guilt for no reason, and fear they will be dependent forever. This complex relationship between Saturn and Venus (which is Libra’s main ruler) creates tension. There’s a pull between wanting the beautiful things out of life like clothes, romance, confidence with feeling like they are undeserving of it. — Please be gentle with Libras.

Moments of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 (MAY HAVE SPOILERS)

-Drax’s infectious laughter through the whole movie.

-Additionally Drax’s continuous ineptitude for social interaction, especially with Mantis.

-Gamora truly becoming Space Mum and suffering the whole time.

-The entire family dynamics within the team and the fact romance was vaguely alluded to, but wasn’t more important over family unlike most other hero movies.

-Kraglin being the Best Boy!!! The purest character in the movie who deserves only good.

-Groot being brilliant comedic relief, but ultimately also being a 3D character who pulls through in the end.

-More trAGIC BACKSTORY FOR ALL!!

-Nebula having the best redemption arc and the saddest reasoning behind it all.

-#Let Gamora and Nebula hug more 2k17.

-Also someone give Rocket more hugs because he suffers too much. Real revelation of his character and his scene with Yondu fuCK!!

-Yondu = true dad and hero of the movie.

-FUCK EGO AND HIS STUPID FUCKING ASS HE CAN BURN IN HELL FOR WHAT HE DID TO PETER!!

-Movie should be renamed “The Incredibly Shitty and Horrendous Time in Peter Quill’s Life”. Let him rest.

-The unabashed hints and references dropped. Every five seconds they references someone and it was amazing.

-The soundtrack once more!

-The reference they did to the first movie where Groot freezes while dancing when Drax sees him.

-Groot. That’s it. He was amazing.

-Mantis and Drax’s incredibly weird but endearing platonic relationship that I hope stays platonic forever because it’s too good.

-Someone must tell Mantis she’s beautiful every day this girl needs it.

-Teach Mantis to smile and love herself !!!

-Big Sister Gamora must take Mantis under her wing and teach her not to take shit from anyone.

-Dad Peter at the end with Groot. Takes after his dad Yondu. Next he’ll threaten to eat Groot.

-The inappropriately times jokes.

There’s so much more good parts to this movie but I’ve rambled on too long already. It must be watched!!

Hey Viria, sorry to bother you but this is something I really need to talk about with someone and your blog has always been a safe space to me. I'm turning 20 this year and I've never been in love, nor have I had a boyfriend/girlfriend before. I don't know, if I'm too picky or if my standards are to high, but I never felt something like a crush before. I don't know if it's normal but I really just want to feel having butterflies in my tummy. I don't know what to do or what is wrong with me.

there’s nothing wrong with you, please don’t think this way!

There are few things I can offer about this:

- don’t feel alone if the insecurity you feel is connected to the age, you aren’t alone, there are so many young people in their twenties who hasn’t been in relationship before. Even for me, even though I had minor school crushes, I only had one relationship and it wasn’t serious and I now know it wasn’t love. So for me it happened when I turned 22.

- it might be that you feel the red flags about people and haven’t met someone you connect to yet. I know a few people who are close to their 20s but haven’t had crushes before, it’s normal too, we all are different.

- movies always make us feel like we have to be in love to be complete, because EVERY teenager is in love in the movies. They show the morally high educated girls and say they always have to be in love to be good. Don’t be too pressured by the movies; they aren’t real life.

- as for butterflies: they aren’t always good. I mentioned minor crushes I had: I used to have all the knees buckling, heartbeating too fast, and I have to say that it wasn’t the healthiest. With as much as I had of physical stuff happening, I could never even talk to that person. So..not feeling the butterflies, but feeling warm and cosy and content and just, very secure, is what I think matters more. Deep connection matters more. Attraction is important too, of course, but the physical stuff fades over time, bonding stays.

- THE LAST BUT NOT LEAST. Try looking up aromantiсism, asexuality, demisexuality. I am not the most educated person with this; but there are people who don’t feel romantic or sexual attraction towards others. There are people who need to really spiritually and mentally bond with someone to start being attracted to them. You might be aromantic or asexual or demisexual!

Hope it helps at least a bit, remember you aren’t alone and there are always people who feel the way you do! You will have it all figured out soon, don’t worry<3

I think that with this clip we had 2 characters development.
I don’t care if u don’t care about Chris but is pretty obvious that he feels feelings for Eva. He pushed her to admit that they were cute together and they could be a real thing, without be rude or assholes: with his funny side, and a little bit of love maybe. So he changed, because he was the “no relationship boy” and now he’s the one who’s begging for one.
And at the other side there’s Eva, who suffered too much for love and now she’s the one who wants no strings, even it’s clear that she feels something for Chris or she would kick his ass out of her life with no regrets time ago. Maybe she don’t wanna make the same mistakes all over again, maybe she’s a little bit scary that this relationship won’t work as the one with Jonas.
So they both adults now and they learned from there mistakes. And I’m crying.

queenconsuelabananahammock  asked:

Were Mila and Danny a thing??? I mean I had ~a feeling~ that they may have been at some point but...what's the tea 👀

They weren’t, as said by them plenty of times and the facts one can add.

I’m not much of a RPF fan, so I’m going to try and make this response as clear and informative as I can. But,

  • She was underage for most part of the show. He being 7 years older than her would had been a little bit crazy and honest to god disgusting if they were a thing. Which I don’t believe they were because
  • Both were on relationships by the time the rumor of them being a thing was spread. He has always present as a very monogamous man, liking and having serious and long-term relationships, which he had during the show and after, before marrying Bijou Philips. While Mila was also in a long-term serious relationship with actor Macaulay Culkin.
  • Another thing to add is the fact that both had refer to the other as their brother/sister, which makes sense since he seemed to have bonded with her pretty early during filming.
  • After the show ended, and their relationships too, they didn’t had a reason to hide if they had been together, but to this day they keep saying the same: they never dated, they see each other as brother/sister, it was only a rumor.

IMPORTANT, 24/06/2017: This post is constantly updated. It has gotten to long, so the rest is now under the cut. You can ask me whatever you want about it.

I always believed that Black Sails is about Flint’s tragedy. But the more I think about it and the more I recapitulate the whole series, I come to realization that it’s actually about Silver’s tragedy.

how can people cry “FETISHIZATION!!!!” immediately at the fetishization of non-Asian POC but are completely fine with sexualizing k-pop stars all they want, have entire blogs dedicated to shipping them in real life, borderline stalk them into their personal lives, and treat them as if they were gods just because they’re asian as if that doesn’t count as fetishization, too?

do you not think Asians count as a race that can be fetishized? or is it because “i’M POC TOO!!!!!!!!” as if your experience with oppression means that you can contribute to the oppression of another group? that you’d target another race with the same thing you despise people doing to yourself? or is it because you’ve called yourself a weeaboo/koreaboo so much that it’s lost the original meaning behind the word where it was meant to be a label on people who fetishize asians? that you’ve been contributing to the fetishization of Asians for so long you don’t realize that what you’re doing is fetishization?

just admit you don’t care about the fetishization of Asian people if you pull this sort of thing, at least you can say that you’re honest about it and let people know they should avoid you.

I think the most underrated bit of genius in 17776 is the overlap with real life items. Items, not really places or people. So far all of them have been related to the main themes of 17776 in some way:

Bee States Ballroom: doing busy work because not only can you afford to do pointless work, it’s the only thing you CAN do in your current situation

Livermore Bulb: eternal but meaningless life

Koy Detmer balls: arbitrarily enforced scarcity and conflict for pure entertainment value. also football

The fact that this much information is being expressed through objects goes in line with what Nine said about humans becoming machine-like. In their quest for entertainment and meaning, humans have centered their entire lives around things that would normally be incredibly boring and worthless.

Every human we’ve met has been totally dedicated to whatever game they’re playing and all of its bizarre conditions. Nobody does anything for the hell of it anymore, they need something concrete to work towards, no matter how stupid it is. Sure, there are mentions of people that don’t play football, but even these people are completely sunk into their daily routines and a sense of constancy.

The most human beings in 17776 are machines millions of miles from Earth. They deal with immortality well because they were always supposed to be immortal.

Do you have any tips for learning ASL?

I do! I don’t know if they’ll work for you, but I’ll share my experience with you.

The course I use to learn ASL is ASL University. It not only has diagrams but videos and gifs of the signs, and the lessons are a combination of vocabulary words that graduate to sentences and history/culture concerning the Deaf community. I am very happy that Dr. Bill made these resources public.

Here are the things I do to help the lessons stick:

Skyping with others that want to learn

  • If you’re okay with video calls, they’re the best way because you can help each other in real time
  • If you’re very shy or have anxiety when talking in real time, video messages work just as well. You record yourself doing the signs and someone can respond as quickly or as slowly as you want.

Keeping an ASL notebook

  • “But Rivkah!” I hear you say. “This is a Sign Language! I can’t just write the vocabulary words!” “Ah,” I say. “You can draw them!”
  • Seriously! I promise it isn’t as complicated as it sounds. I make very simple drawings with basic shapes as the head and torso of a person, and then I very quickly draw about 3-4 of them in different positions so I can clearly see what the sign is. I only draw fingers if they need to be in a specific position, otherwise I draw mittens.
  • You can even do stick figures if you want to keep it really simple!

Daily practice

  • This one seems obvious, but you really do need it with ASL, because holding on to gestures and grammar in ASL is much harder than holding onto flashcard-applicable Spanish or German.
  • Set a daily goal and use a tracker in your planner or calendar. Try not to break the streak! Make the goal small, though, like “practice 2 old and learn 2 new signs a day” or or something like that. That way, it’s not a huge issue to complete it every day, and if you get too busy, it’s easy to pick back up.
  • Try to buddy up with a friend in real life to learn it! If not, find someone in the langblr community. At the very least, you can track up on each others’ progress.

Other methods

  • Print out pictures of the sign process for unorthodox flashcards
  • Find Youtube channels that teach or use ASL, because seeing it used is very helpful for comprehension
  • Find Youtube videos of Deaf music videos
  • Find an ASL club, group, of Deaf cafe to practice in
  • Find ASL DVDs
  • Find ASL dictionaries or sign-teaching books
  • Start with signs that are most useful to real-life situations (google 100 most commons nouns, verbs, adj, etc, to have an idea of where to start, or think of how you’d naturally have a conversation)
  • Master the alphabet, because finger-spelling is always my go-to if I don’t know the sign
  • Remember your facial expressions - along with posture and length of gesture, along with other key things that courses should be teaching you, your expressions are a serious help in determining the mood of your words/story and whether you’re asking or telling.
  • Try to learn how to lip-read if you can, even if/though you may be a hearing individual. Lip reading is often used in conjunction with your signs, where you mouth your intended words as you sign them.
  • Use mnemonic devices to help you remember vocabulary or grammar
  • If you can find a class to take, they’re very beneficial! But it’s a great idea if you to do that to find a Deaf teacher, because they teach it best. Hearing teachers are fine as well, but you should be aware that they are experiencing the culture (much like I am) secondhand and may be prone to mistakes or errors in judgment.

I am a hearing individual, so if any Deaf individual would like to correct me on any errors I may make, please do! I am relatively new in my attempts to learn it.
