because jars!

a note about jars and herbs and mold

i’ve seen posts that both warn witches not to put herbs in jars because it causes them to mold, and then other posts exclaiming about how jars have been used to store herbs for centuries. and i have yet to see a post that actually focuses on the problem. because they’re both right if they don’t focus on the actual issue

do not put fresh herbs in jars. only put dried herbs in jars.

you know when you leave bread out of its airtight bag and then it gets stale? that’s the water evaporating from it. now it’s a dried husk.

same principle, things with water in them, over time the water inside them leaves, evaporates, and then you’re left with something dried up.

however, when you put fresh herbs in jars, they still have the water in them. if you seal it up, it still naturally seeps out of the herbs, but then it has nowhere to go and collects inside hte jar, and molds.

tl;dr dry your herbs first so you can avoid moldy jars, store herbs to your little heart’s content

The Great Aviation Transformation Begins

On this National Aviation Day, we’re going “X.”

Today we celebrate the birthday of one of America’s original U.S. aviation pioneers — Orville Wright. But this year we also celebrate the pioneers of right now — the women and men of NASA who are changing the face of aviation by going “X.” We’re starting the design and build of a series of piloted experimental aircraft – X-planes – for the final proof that new advanced tech and revolutionary shapes will give us faster, quieter, cleaner ways to get from here to there.

So, what is an X-plane?

Since the early days of aviation, X-planes have been used to demonstrate new technologies in their native environment – flying through the air aboard an aircraft that’s shaped differently from the tube-and-wing of today. X-planes are the final step after ground tests. They provide valuable data that can lead to changes in regulation, design, operations, and options for travel. Two of the most famous historical X-planes are the Bell X-1 and the X-15.

Why can’t I fly supersonic now, say from New York to Seattle?

Because of the loud, jarring sonic boom. Commercial supersonic flight over land and, therefore over communities, is currently prohibited. Our supersonic X-plane will fly “quiet”; there’ll still be a sonic boom but it’ll sound more like a soft “thump.”  The Low Boom Flight Demonstration X-plane, scheduled for first flight in 2021 and to begin community overflight testing in 2022, will provide the technical and human response data to federal and international regulators so they can consider lifting the ban. If that happens, someday commercial supersonic passenger flights between U.S. coasts would be less than three hours.

This is a preliminary design of the Low Boom Flight Demonstration X-plane. Its shape is carefully tailored to prevent the formation of a loud sonic boom.

Will I ever be able to carry on a conversation when a plane flies overhead?

Yes. Our next X-plane will be one that flies at regular speed, but has advanced design technologies and a nontraditional shape that drop perceived noise level by more than half. It will also reduce fuel consumption by 60-80 percent, and cut emissions by more than 80 percent. Design of this piloted X-plane is expected to begin around 2020.

This possible X-plane design is a blended wing body, which reduces drag and increases lift, and also reduces noise because the engines are placed above the fuselage.

Will I ever fly on an airplane powered like my Prius?

Probably. All- or hybrid-electric aircraft that can carry 12 – 120 passengers are becoming more likely. For a larger aircraft and possible future X-plane, NASA is studying how to use electric power generated by the engines to drive a large fan in a tail-cone and get additional thrust for takeoff and reduce fuel use.

This possible future subsonic X-plane would use electricity to power a large fan in the tail-cone, providing extra thrust at takeoff.

We – along with our government, industry and academic partners – have begun the great aviation transformation. And you’ll witness every important moment of our X-plane stories, here and on every #NationalAviationDay.

Happy birthday @purgatory-jar!!! I started this before you told me you weren’t going to Florence, so… oops! Hope the day was great :)

“He’s so…” Castiel’s gaze slides over the sculpture as he sighs, blue eyes drinking in every curve of marble with flushed cheeks. To his left, Dean raises an amused brow, nudging his boyfriend playfully.

“Should I be jealous?”

Despite the fact that Cas snorts, it takes just a hair too long for his gaze to be torn away. Dean whistles lowly in response. “Oh man, Cas, you got it bad.”

“He’s beautiful!” Castiel shoots back, wrapping his left arm around Dean’s right. “Look at him, you can’t tell me he’s not gorgeous.”

Dean hums, critically looking the sculpture over. “…His dick’s a little small.”

“You’re ridiculous.”

“You love it.”

“Unfortunately.”

🌛Remember Your Dreams Spell Jar🌜

I made this jar because I couldn’t remember any part of my dreams, not even enough to write down. Nothing. This has helped. :)

Ingredients

—a white or purple candle
—a jar (I used a really small jar)
—mugwort (to remember dreams/vivid dreams)
—lavender (peaceful/healthy sleep)
—lemongrass (protection from nightmares)

What You Do

Light your candle with your intent. You want this to be burning while you are working, you will be needing the melted wax later.

After you cleanse your jar, put the mugwort in it. Use as much as you need, but I put more mugwort than the other ingredients because this is the main ingredient.

Then I put some lavender. I feel like its important to sleep soundly, and to have the ‘correct’ (I don’t have a better word) sleep so you can dream more easily.

Last you put the lemongrass. You don’t want some nasty nightmares.

Remember to visualize and feel your intent with each ingredient. Then you cork it and cover the top with the melted wax to seal it all up.

Place beside your bed when you sleep, keep it close to you, and it should help! I would still advise writing dreams down when you can remember them, that will help you remember them even more! This is just to help you get started!

This charm jar can also be charged when ever you feel you need the boost!

Happy dreaming!

This line if anyone doesn’t know comes from Tony and Fury’s conversation during Age of Ultron. The conversation where Tony says that the vision Wanda gave him, is the future. He blames himself.

This is not just the end of the path the group started them on, Tony claims all responsibility. I started us on. This idea that Tony tries to push off the blame for his actions, is honestly baffling. Tony consistently accepts blame for other people’s actions.

Let’s go through some of the movies and see where Tony takes responsibility.

In Ironman 1 we see Tony Stark, talking with Yinsen in Afghanistan. He’s scaredd, confused, and in pain. Despite all of that, one of the first things he notices about his kidnappers, they have his weapon. Which he finds absolutely jarring because he only sells his weapons to the US military.

He is absolutely shocked that these terrorists have his weapons, because Obidiah was the one selling to them behind his back. However, he takes responsibility for his weapons getting in the wrong hands, and sets out to personally destroy every stockpile of weapons.

He took full responsibility for something that was not his fault.

What about Age of Ultron.

The entire movie in Captain America civil war, is Tony attempting to make up for what happened. Notice he again says my fault. He has taken every bit of blame, he doesn’t blame Wanda for what she did to him, or for what she did to help Ultron with his plan. He doesn’t blame Bruce for helping him study the scepter. He doesn’t blame Ultron because ultimately Ultron’s actions were his own, he was a sentient being. Tony takes all of the blame on his shoulders, and supports the accords as a way of preventing further tragedies like Ultron.

Tony consistently accepts blames for things he was only marginally connected to. Other people expect him to, and he gets blamed for the actions of others regularly.

Example:

This man blamed Tony Stark for the crimes Howard Stark committed against his father. Tony is expected to pay in blood for crimes that are not his own.

Or what about

Who after years of planning, and evil deeds blames Tony for all of it. A drunk celebrity said he would talk with him and then didn’t. I understand maybe Aldrich was devastated, and dealing with depression. However, his crimes are still his own, he still chose to commit them. He has had years to get a good therapist, he chose to develop a serum that kills people, and causes them to explode.

This is not Tony’s fault, this is Killain’s. He made the decision to be a villain.

Now let’s look at some of the other Avengers accepting responsibility for their actions.

Well, that doesn’t sound like accepting responsibility for unleashing the Hulk onto a city of innocent people, and completely disrupting Dr. Banner’s peace of mind. She has to have accepted blame at some point, Captain America wouldn’t let her get away with this type of thing, would he?

“She’s just a kid.” Oh, of course well at least he accepts responsibility for his own mistakes.

“Did you know?”

“I didn’t know it was him.”

“Don’t bullshit me Rogers, did you know?”

“Yes.”

Well he admits that he hid the truth for years after having his own lie waved in his face, not exactly taking responsibility.

What about Clint, he’s well known for considering the consequences of his actions. Mr. Clint “They’re considered.” Barton.

Oh no wait here’s another example of someone breaking the law and then blaming Tony for their own crimes. Wow the Aldrich Killian parallel I never wanted to make with one of my favorite comic book characters.

Now, all of the original team Cap is guilty of refusing responsibility for their crimes. What about Natasha? While we haven’t seen much of her origin Story she is supposed to be known for clearing the red off her ledger, and while we never see her take blame for much in canon, I blame Marvel’s shitiness with female characters and screen time.

Or Bruce? Bruce is the only original Avenger we see taking blame for things other than Tony. He’ll take blame for any event the Hulk was involved in, that’s why he leaves at the end of AoU, because of Johannesburg. He still blames himself for breaking Harlem, despite the fight being necessary to protect people.

Tl:dr this idea that Tony never accepts responsibility is really baffling to me, because team Cap never seemed to accept responsibility for anything they did wrong. Whereas Tony is constantly accepting blame, and working to improve himself and the situation.

How to Zookeep: Job Interview Basics

So I was tagged by @why-animals-do-the-thing in a post about what not to say in a job interview. It’s a bit overdue, but I figured this was a good opportunity to continue some of “How to Zookeep” and give y’all some insight on interviews. I’ve actually conducted quite a lot of interviews for an entry-level position. Here are just a few Do’s and Don’ts…

General Maybe Do’s:

  • Wear an outfit that looks pretty nice, but don’t go too formal. You should be able to get muddy or hop a fence - just in case. Most of the time you’ll know if it’s a true working interview, but some interviews will involve a tour, meeting an animal, or other situations where you might get messy.
  • Show that you’ve researched the facility and the position. This is especially true for phone interviews or if you’re not from the area. If you’ve ever visited the facility, mention that. Mention specific parts of the job description and why you’re interested or why you would excel at it. I know I always make a good note if candidates reference something on our website or from the job description because it lets me know they’ve done their homework. (One time a candidate quoted something verbatim and it was a little jarring only because I wrote that part of the website and it was strange to hear someone quote me).
  • If at all possible, have specific examples from your past experiences that you can talk about. These could be examples of training, working well with others, strengths & weaknesses, general animal care, etc. Try to be able to tell a story about when you worked around a training difficulty or resolved an issue with a coworker. And yes, have a real answer for “strengths and weaknesses”.
  • Try to use the most ‘updated’ zoo language you can. Zoo terminology changes so fast it’s hard to keep up. Try to use some of the research (website and job description) to see what kind of language this particular facility uses and attempt to mirror it. Examples are “in human care” instead of captivity or “habitat / enclosure” instead of cage/exhibit. It’s just a bonus way to make a good impression.

General Maybe Don’ts:

  • Don’t get political. This is what @why-animals-do-the-thing was asked about - mentioning animal rights activist groups in the interview. Unless you are completely sure that it is specifically relevant to the position try not to get into any heavy areas of debate, any controversial news stories (think Harambe), or politically charged organizations like PETA, HSUS, etc. And even though you might think that everyone in the zoo world agrees that US politics are terrible for zoos/the environment or something along those lines, a job interview is not the time to mention it.
  • Don’t ask for tips about a specific facility on a public forum. It’s important to do research, but this one crosses a bit of a professional line. I would advise against going on any public forum (like the facebook groups You Know You’re a Zookeeper When and Zookreepers) and asking for interview advice about a certain facility. Most people won’t want to comment publicly about their facility as it can be seen as unprofessional and a lot of their coworkers will see it. Most of the time the research you need can be done on the website and with some googling, but if you feel you just need to talk to someone who works there, try flexing your networking muscle a bit.
  • Don’t say you love animals. This sounds contradictory but hear me out here - this job is about much more than loving animals. A lot of interviewers are used to hearing this answer or seeing it in cover letters of people who think that liking animals is all you have to do for a job. Yes, you love animals, we know that. But what do you love about working with them? Do you like enrichment, exhibit design, training? What do you love about the career of zookeeper / aquarist / etc? It’s important to go beyond the surface of just wanting to be around animals and go into the details of how you will improve their lives when you literally have their lives in your hands. I’ve heard from a lot of interviewers that they’re tired of hearing about ‘passion’, they want to hear about action. They want to hear about cleaning, hard work, the real nitty-gritty of the job. This don’t also leads to a general tip (what if you don’t have examples of what you like yet?)

General Tips

Here’s a common problem: you’re applying for your first entry-level position and you don’t have any animal experience yet. What do you talk about? Here’s some ideas:

  • Academic research or fieldwork - did you go on birding trips? Did you do mist-netting? Have you worked in a lab that uses live animals? Those things can be beginner animal experience.
  • Volunteering - zoos, vet clinics, etc.
  • Formal domestic animal experience - even if it’s not with exotic animals, the basics of caring for small domestics (cats, dogs, rodents, fish, etc.) in a formal setting (vet, pet store, rescue) has some aspects that apply in zoos, such as restraint and medical care.
  • Personal pets (very carefully) - It’s not that personal pet experience isn’t helpful when you’re just starting out, but sometimes newer keepers come in with an idea that their pet experience is on the same level as caring for animals in a formal career setting. It is not. Caring for your own animal in your own home is VERY different from caring for it in a zoo, aquarium, vet’s office, etc. In a formal setting, there are legal guidelines to follow, teams of people to communicate with about animal care, and lots of formality/red tape that doesn’t exist in a home setting. Pets can be useful as examples in interviews if it is relevant (medicating, enrichment, restraint) but they are almost never seen as an actual qualification. Side note, please don’t list personal pet care on a resume.

Overall in an interview, you want to try to be as collected and confident as possible. BUT if you get nervous and you’re really struggling, just tell us! It’s better to just laugh a bit and say sorry, I’m nervous, than to completely freeze up. I have done plenty of interviews where the person is nervous and that’s okay. I’ve hired people who were nervous or misspoke in their interview.

If you have any other questions, feel free to drop me a line. I’ve interviewed and hired people for just three years now, so I may not be particularly seasoned, but I can lend a little of my expertise.

“the door, get the door.” was all magnus was able to gasp against alec’s lips as they stumbled into his bedroom, hands fluttering and mouths moving like wildfire, quick and passionate. alec made a noise of agreement that made something warm and wanting pool in magnus’ gut as he blindly reached for the door with one hand while his lips remained attached to magnus’. it was almost comical, how frantic alec was in trying to push the door shut while attempting to maintain contact with him. it was like magnus was the only oxygen left in the world and alec felt like his lungs were going to burst because he was suffocating. magnus cupped the back of alec’s neck and his face, smiling as alec finally managed to close the door and reach out for his forearms, tugging him closer.

they tipped and swayed a little as alec began to try to take his boots off, hopping a little on one foot so that they wouldn’t lose their balance. it was like being intoxicated, uncoordinated movements and whirling minds, and magnus began to laugh as alec just gave up and pulled away for a few seconds to get his shoe off.

and he was smiling, too and god, wasn’t that beautiful, wasn’t he beautiful. alec was smiling at him like he was the sun and his forehead was against his and he smelled so good, like aftershave and laundry detergent and just alec. his hand was on magnus’ chest to steady himself as he let out little breathy laughs, laughs that were like fireflies that seemed to glow and that magnus wanted to catch and put in a jar because they were so precious.

and it was all so funny, wasn’t it? how a shoe, a damn shoe, was interrupting their moment, how magnus had forgotten that first times weren’t as flawless as they were in the movies, how life wasn’t set out like actors with blocking, how alec had seemed to believe that this was all supposed to go one way but it was not going entirely as planned.

a shoe, a boot to be more specific, had been preventing them from getting their groove on.

hah. screw you, shoe magnus thought triumphantly when he heard alec’s boot thud on the floor.

they were both giggling now, kissing forgotten as they held each other in the dimly lit room, and magnus only realized now that sex wasn’t always sensuous or intense; it was clumsy, it was educational, and at times, it was joyous. it was uniting and connecting with someone in the closest way possible. that’s what they were doing, that’s what him and alec were about to do: connect.

it had been a long time since magnus actually laughed during a makeout session or a heated moment, but it felt….right. like it was okay to be messy and not super elegant with alec because alec didn’t care. it was relaxing, comforting, to know that they were in the same boat, that they could be like this, laugh at each other and with each other, even as they were fumbling with buttons and stumbling towards a bed. at the same time though,  magnus was positive that alec could practically hear the butterflies in his stomach through his chuckles, the pounding of his heart. he could certainly feel it, with his hand on his chest, but he just kept looking at him like that, in that open honest way that magnus had never before and that made him want to weep because of how exquisite alexander lightwood was.

and then they were kissing again and wow, did that feel bloody incredible. the thing about alec was that he was so eager and so giving and was willing to give anything he tried his all, so kissing him was incredible. his lips moved almost desperately, breath ghosting magnus’ cheek and chin and his hair was tickling his forehead and his hands were moving all over his body and it was so much and magnus suddenly realized that there were too many layers of clothing between them and he needed to feel alec’s skin and the scars and the coarse hair under his fingertips or else he was going to die, he was sure he was going to die if this didn’t happen soon enough.

magnus grabbed at the back of alec’s shirt and tugged and alec at once got what he was trying to do and he graciously helped magnus’ wish come true, breaking away to hastily take off his shirt and throw it aside somewhere. magnus wouldn’t have cared if that shirt had ended on top of the empire state building, waving in the wind like some strange flag because alec was now kissing him again and he could feel the warmth of his skin radiate through his own shirt as he slipped off his own jacket. alec’s hands went to magnus’ shoulders as if to help him push his jacket off, but magnus already had that covered and his hands kind of wandered for a few seconds, not sure what to do. magnus found that strangely endearing.

but, of course, all horrible things come in pairs, as alec was walking around with only one shoe on  and he pulled away to take off his second boot, forehead touching magnus’. and then this for some reason made them laugh again and magnus felt like he could fly when alec was looking at him like that. the second shoe practically sailed across the room and magnus was so overwhelmed with emotions for the man in front of him that he took his face in his hands and flipped them over , both of them falling rather smoothly onto his bed.

and this, wow, this was the jackpot. alec’s weight underneath him, his chest rising and falling and a bright look in his eye. his lips were already shiny and a gorgeous pink from kissing and his hair going this way and that. it made magnus’ heart practically ache. alec lightwood was going to be the death of him.

“that was graceful.” magnus observed, shifting so that he was able to situate himself between alec’s legs, planting his hands on either side of his head. these were the first words that they had exchanged since their conversation in the living room and magnus tried not to sound as wrecked as he felt.

“shadowhunter.” alec replied breathlessly, making no attempt to hide his state at all. and that was….lovely. it was really, really lovely to see alec, a man who had been unable to express himseflf and his true emotions for all of his life be so open about what he was feeling in this moment. in this moment with magnus.

a sense of honor filled magnus’ chest, that he was the only one, had ever been the only one, to witness the true alec lightwood.

“huh.” magnus mustered before alec was pulling him down by his face for a kiss, a kiss so deep and slow like caverns or waves rolling gently towards the shore. magnus hummed in response, his brain short circuiting when alec craned his neck and chased his lips when he started to sit up a little.

it just all felt so wonderful, everything about this moment was perfect, and magnus wasn’t sure if he wanted to faint, cry, or both when he felt alec’s hands slip under his shirt to pull it up his back oh so slowly, like molasses or sap dripping from a tree.

magnus wanted to memorize every little detail about this moment: the feel of alec’s body underneath his, their chests pressed together, hands exploring his own back and exposing his skin to the warm air, mouth pulling kiss after kiss from his own lips,  every little sound coming from alec and how his body tensed and shivered under magnus’ touch, how alec’s heart was thudding against his chest at a million miles per hour.

it had been centuries since someone had touched him like this, with such care and preciseness and with a craving and an itch for more. and magnus wanted everything, he wanted so much as well, as he held alec’s face in his hands, and suddenly the room started to spin and the combination of alec’s hands on his body and teeth tugging at magnus’ bottom lip and his back arching just so he could be as close to magnus as possible made something in magnus snap, like a cable or a wire, and he felt the familiar spark of the glamour hit his eyes at full force.

he remembered lovers in the past cowering at his eyes, sometimes sneering at them and calling them hideous. some, like camille, had laughed at him, shaming him for who he was. others, like etta, didn’t understand, even if they weren’t cruel about it. guilt and fear washed over magnus and he sat up right away, getting off of alec and turning to face the opposite wall, squeezing his eyes shut and trying to snap the glamour back on. the blood rushing in his ears and the dizziness and arousal and joy clouding his mind were making it very frustratingly difficult to do so.

he faintly heard alec’s confused voice in the background and picked up on him saying, “am i doing something wrong?” and of course alec would ask that. the perfect soldier, the man who wanted to get everything right all the time. his first concern was that he had messed up, had made magnus unhappy, was seeking answers on how he could fix his supposed mistake and that made magnus want to turn to him and hold him, but he refrained. the nerves over his eyes were eating him up inside and he felt sick to his stomach.

“no such thing.” he responded, attempting to put on a breezy air, but the anxiety seeped through his words like water through paper.

magnus heard alec sit up and he wanted nothing more than to run from the room or kiss alec and pretend like everything was okay.

“do you not want to?” alec asked curiously and that was the last thing magnus wanted him to think.

“no- yes, of course i do.” magnus pinched the bridge of his nose, still not looking at his boyfriend.

why me? magnus thought miserably. why can’t i have this one good thing with this one great person?

alec stayed quiet for a moment before magnus felt his hand on his back, comforting and grounding but also terrifying at the same time. “magnus, what is it?” alec tried slowly and carefully, waiting patiently for a response.

magnus hesitated, taking a deep breath before saying shakily, “it’s just…sometimes i lose control.” and before he could stop himself, despite the voice screaming in his head telling him not to, magnus turned around, facing alec with his unglamoured eyes and pure terror in his heart.

alec stared at him for what felt like the longest five seconds of his whole  life, his face unreadable. magnus felt a lump form in his throat and was already preparing what to do and what to say next: this was fun while it lasted. here’s your shirt. i hope you have a nice night.and he reprimanded himself for ever opening up his heart again, for every trusting a shadowhunter, for ever being this foolish.

but then.

but then alec smiled.

he was smiling.

it was a soft smile, a gentle smile that made magnus’ heart soar and instantly calmed his fears. it was unguarded and sweet , the kind of smile you wouldn’t expect to see on the face of a soldier, especially alec lightwood. but here he was, smiling at magnus and his eyes.

his real eyes.

alec scooted closer until their legs were touching, his smile never faltering.

“magnus,” he began tenderly, licking his lips before cupping magnus’ face with his hand. his eyes were welcoming and looked like stars, twinkling and gorgeous in the moonlight. “they’re beautiful. you’re beautiful.”

and that, well.

magnus didn’t know what to say to that.

all the air whoosed out of his lungs and he felt his chest tighten and his heart began to hurt, like physically hurt, because of how in love he was already with this man, how much his comment meant to him, how he was still smiling at him and wasn’t scared or disgusted.

he thinks i’m beautiful, magnus giddily processed. it had been along time since someone had called him beautiful, but it had never felt quite right when they had said it

when alec called him beautiful, magnus felt complete, he felt alive. he felt like he wanted to throw his arms in the air and twirl around.

he felt like…happiness.

no words could sum up what he was feeling in that moment, so magnus settled for taking the wrist of the hand that alec was cupping his face with and squeezing, smiling fondly at him. they stayed like that for a few moments, smiling and peaceful, until alec started to smirk at him.

“what?” magnus smiled a little and alec’s smirk only continued to grow.

“not gonna lie, you losing control of your magic because of me is really sexy.” alec said flirtatiously and magnus scoffed, pretending to be annoyed. the smile on his face was a dead giveaway.

“oh, please.” he laughed, alec’s hand still on his face, his thumb stroking his cheekbone.

“it is! quite the confidence booster.” alec scrunched his nose up and magnus rolled his eyes, slapping his chest playfully.

“don’t be so smug, alexander lightwood.” magnus warned. “you weren’t oh so cool and collected a few moments ago either.”

“okay, okay,” alec surrendered, smiling as he tilted his head to press kisses up magnus’ jaw, fingers hesitatingly brushing the hem of his shirt.

“if you still want to-” he started, his mouth against magnus’ jaw, slight nervousness in his tone before magnus cut him off.

“with all my heart.” he finished before pulling alec into a sweet, passionate kiss, slowly but surely resuming the pace they once had. and then it was like nothing had happened, magnus back on top of alec, but at the same time, everything had happened. everything felt in place, right and secure, and magnus sat up as alec’s hands moved to his shirt’s hem again.

“go ahead, love.” magnus smiled and with slightly trembling hands, alec pulled magnus’ shirt over his head with his assistance. the shirt fell on the ground beside the bed, but magnus paid no attention because the feeling of alec’s hand, running slowly down his chest and the sweet, awestruck smile on his face was taking over all of his senses at that moment.

“this is so unfair.” alec said after a bit and magnus looked at him in confusion.

“what is?”

“that i’m the only one who gets to see how utterly, completely radiant you are. it’s not fair to the rest of the world.” alec replied like it was the easiest thing to say and magnus was so overwhelmed with emotion that he pulled alec in by the back of his neck for a kiss, lips crashing together as alec’s hands trailed and traced patterns on his body. magnus pulled away to kiss along alec’s deflect rune, making the shadowhunter stretch his neck for easier access.

and magnus couldn’t help but smile when he moved to kiss alec again and alec stopped him so he could take his face in his hands and press two soft kisses on both of his eyelids.

Bottle / Jar Spells 🍾

🍾what is a jar spell, and how is it different?

a jar spell is when the ingredients of a spell are combined or layered together in a jar, as opposed to a spell which would have varied and specific actions for each herb or stone. it is simpler and tends to cast a general effect or status, rather than bring about a direct action.

🍾how to use

often after sealing the ingredients together, you can keep in in the house or on your person as a charm to benefit from its magical effects. as with a witch’s bottle, a popular jar spell, is sometimes buried or hidden on a property to grant the entire area its effects. if you feel a jar spell is wearing down, you can unseal it and recharge it with energy, from moonlight for example, and then reseal it.

🍾there’s mold in my jar!

that’s because you sealed in moisture. to clean it, you way want to let some water/bleach combination soak inside it, or depending on the size of the bottle, wash it as with any dish or clean the inside with a q-tip and disinfectant.

🍾how to dispose?

you can dispel its magical effects however you like, but often enough simply the act of pouring out the contents is enough to be rid of the spell.

Gender/Sexuality Protection Spell Jar

“Attacks against my gender identity and/or sexual orientation do not wound me.”

The purpose of this spell is to influence protection against any attacks targeted on one’s gender identity and/or sexual orientation. You are valid, and you are safe.

Materials: a jar, a small bowl, rosemary, thyme, rose petals, chamomile, mint, red jasper, a sigil, a candle and anointing oil(for 1a) and/or a slip of paper and pen (for 1b). Optional: a personalizing material, such as a lock of hair or a slip of paper with your name (for 5b).

There are two different versions of step one. You can choose to do just one or you could do both. However, if doing both, complete step 1a before step 1b.

1a. Carve your sigil into your candle. I personally chose a white candle because white represents purity and healing. Anoint the candle with oil while meditating on the focus of the sigil. Light the candle and continue the spell beside it.

1b. Write your sigil on the slip of paper. Put it along the inside wall of the jar so that it is facing out, the sigil acting as a shield of protection, or for a larger jar one may fold it up and place it in the bottom for a solid foundation.

2. Put the rosemary, thyme, rose petals, chamomile, and mint in the small bowl one by one.

Rosemary for courage, strength, happiness, healing, protection, and releasing negativity.

Thyme for healing and releasing negativity.

Rose petals for love, confidence, and healing.

Chamomile to soothe and relax. Mint for protection and soothing.

3. Crush together the materials in the bowl with your fingers. As you break them down, visualize the process as breaking down your problems.

4. Put the crushed materials in your jar.

5. Add red jasper, for stability and emotional equilibrium. You may add as much or as little as you want.

5b. Optional: To help link the spell directly to you, you could add a personalizing material, or effectively a piece of yourself, so the spell will hold it’s effect on you even when it is not with you This could be a lock of hair or your name on a slip of paper, for example. I personally didn’t add one because my jar is a necklace that I will be wearing regularly.

6. Close your jar. If possible, seal it using the wax from the candle.

At this point you may put out the candle or leave it to burn. I personally chose to let it burn a while longer (though unfortunately not long enough to melt the sigil because I have familial obligations and I can’t leave a candle unattended).

Don’t forget to put out your candle and don’t leave it unattended!

Now the spell is done! Once again, the purpose of this spell is to influence protection against any attacks targeted on one’s gender identity and/or sexual orientation. You are valid, and you are safe.

Try to stay strong, everybody!

Bad Boy
  • *Molly's flat*
  • Molly: *nursing a cut above Sherlock's eye* I can't believe she actually punched you.
  • Sherlock: *winced* People don't like it when their affair is exposed to their entire family, even if the murderer was caught. Lesson learned.
  • Molly: *smirks* You were showing off.
  • Sherlock: A bit.
  • Molly: *smoothes his hair aside* There. Good as new. Try not to entice anymore guilty widows to punch you, yeah?
  • Sherlock: *smiles* It's me, Molly.
  • Molly: *chuckles* Still... *ruffles his hair; thoughtful* looks hot, though. I always did like a bad boy *giggles; leaves*
  • Sherlock: ...
  • Sherlock: *raises an eyebrow*
  • A FEW DAYS LATER
  • *Molly's flat*
  • Molly: *reading on her sofa*
  • -knocking-
  • Molly: *opens the door*
  • Sherlock: *gently prodding his black eye; wincing* Didn't work...
  • Molly: *arms folded* Another widow.
  • Sherlock: An old lady. Someone tried to mug her *shrugs* I stepped in.
  • Molly: *bites her lip* Oh...
  • Sherlock: *gestures* May I...
  • Molly: *shakes her head* Sorry, yes. Right *pulls him inside* err, sit down. I-I'll just... *hurries to the bathroom*
  • Sherlock: *smirks*

the lego games are so visually jarring because you’ll have the blocky lego models and then these really detailed plants and props in the exact same shots, often directly next to each other

  • Youngjae: I made tea.
  • Himchan: I don’t want tea.
  • Youngjae: I didn't make you tea. This is my tea.
  • Himchan: Then why did you tell me?
  • Youngjae: It's a conversation starter.
  • Himchan: It's an horrible conversation starter.
  • Youngjae: Oh, it is? We're conversing. Checkmate.
Michael Lee Brown as Evan Hansen

*Minor plot spoilers ahead

Michael has a gorgeous voice.  He uses more vibrato than either Ben or Colton, which was a tiny bit jarring only because I’m not used to it in this role with these songs, but he sounded GREAT at all times.  I also think he really doesn’t need to use the vibrato as much; when he holds a high note without it, his voice is to.  Die.  For.

I was struck how Michael’s Evan is most believably a high school teenager.  I have no idea of MLB’s actual age, but he’s the only Evan during which it never once seems like this is an adult man playing a teen, if that makes sense.  This lends an added vulnerability to his portrayal.

It also makes the eventual Evan/Zoey romance a bit less believable, because since he feels so young, Zoey actually seems like the older student.  For her to fall for Evan in this dynamic doesn’t feel quite as realistic.  I honestly think a few more performances in the role would easily take care of that, though, and help them find a more credible romantic bond.

There are acting choices that MLB makes that I like very much; specifically a part where he got an audience laugh out of a line that had never gotten one before (that I don’t even think was written for a laugh.)  Naturally, because I slept before posting this, I now CANNOT REMEMBER the line.  GAH!

WTAW was sung spectacularly.  I think the singing was the focus here because of the importance of the song to the show, and he was holding back a bit acting-wise in favor of getting the notes right, which he definitely did.  More turns in the role will also help there, as it will with You Will Be Found.  It was sung *beautifully*, and just needs more palpable panic from MLB’s Evan when he drops his note cards mid-speech.

I love love LOVED MLB’s dynamic with Rachel.  It felt like Michael’s different portrayal of Evan gave her something substantively new to work with, and she KILLED it.  This was one of the best performances for her of the seven I’ve seen.  At the moment when out of pain, Heidi sarcastically apologizes for not being able to give Evan certain things, and Evan bites back, “It’s not my fault other people can!”, the audience audibly gasped.  It was this huge “oh no he DIDN’T” moment, which I’ve never seen happen quite like that at that point in the show.  VERY dramatic.

Particularly because that moment was so harsh, Evan needs to be especially overwhelmed by what he’s done in “Good For You,” and I didn’t quite feel that.  Again, I believe this is down to the newness of performing the role. I think remembering where he had to move on stage during the song was likely the priority here.

I also felt that Will Roland’s performance got a new life playing opposite Michael.  He had the audience in the palm of his hand every time he opened his mouth.  It was fantastic.

Words Fail.  Boy howdy, there aren’t enough ways to say how thoroughly Michael CRUSHED this.  Snot bubbles glistening and visible from Row L, y'all.  What I especially like is how he was able to act this full-out, yet made the conscious choice to almost never drop the melody in favor of the drama (something both BP and CR do more of.)  I don’t think it’s necessary to growl the lyrics quite so much to sustain the dramatic effect, and Michael proved this definitively last night.  So, so good.

In conclusion, this performance just solidifies my belief that as great as he is, this show doesn’t need Ben Platt to survive and thrive.  The audience was all in for Michael’s performance, just as they are for Colton when he plays the role.  If you see the show, #YouWillBeFound no matter which Evan you’re fortunate enough to experience. <3

Hello, again After reading your latest piece in the Hannigram Fluff Therapy series, I realised that I'm going to require as much of this warm, fluffy goodness as I can get, right through January 20, 2017. It's not a specific ask, but a humble request for more, and a thank you. You're a treasure to the fandom, and you're writing is often the only bright spot in my day/week. <3

Thank you so much my friend. I’m sorry this took so long to get to, but I hope you enjoy. <3

The lilt of Hannibal’s voice carried through the house, folding itself against the walls. Will followed the sound into the living room.

“You’re singing.”

Hannibal turned to him, ceasing his song. “A song from my childhood. My mother would sing it to me often.”

Will didn’t know the language, but deep in his bones he understood. “It’s about God.”

“In a sense. Did you sleep well?”

Will smiled and ducked his head, recalling the night previous, the way they’d made love for the very first time. “I did. Thank you.”

Hannibal reached for Will’s hand, brushing his knuckles with the softest kiss. “I’m happy to hear that. What would you like for breakfast?”

“Whatever you want,” Will said, gazing down at his hand when Hannibal let it go. “Tell me about your mother’s song.”

“A Lithuanian folk song about death and rebirth.”

Will laughed. “You truly did begin at the beginning. Your mother was religious?”

“Very. I’d never given much thought to the idea of worship myself. Until recently.”

A flush bloomed hotly on Will’s cheeks. “Please don’t build me an altar.”

Hannibal brushed his knuckles along Will’s cheek. “Our shared bed will serve just fine,” he said, smiling. “I’ll see to breakfast now, if you don’t mind.”

“Go on,” Will breathed, lost in Hannibal’s gaze. “I’m starving.”

In your opinion, which star wars character is the mostly likely to make puns?

All of them.

I mean, Anakin Skywalker canonically makes puns on a regular basis, sometimes while killing people. So, you know, he probably wins the pun wars here. But he’s far from the only contender.

  • Luke definitely takes after his dad in the pun department.
  • Han Solo groans a lot at other people’s puns, but it would be a mistake to think that keeps him from making his own.
  • Chewie has three modes: hungry, salty as hell, and punny. You just can’t tell ‘cause he doesn’t have subtitles.
  • Leia’s puns sometimes go over people’s heads because she gets pretty detailed and even esoteric about them. Sometimes her puns are visual rather than verbal. They’re also all brutally sarcastic.
  • Lando Calrissian is that rarest of rare comic masters: someone who makes puns that are both sophisticated and actually hilarious (rather than just so bad they’re good).
  • Artoo mostly curses, tbh, but when he’s not cursing he’s punning.
  • Threepio wins the secret underground droid pun championships pretty much every year.
  • Obi-Wan’s puns are generally terrible, even by pun standards. Although he puns pretty regularly, for some reason people are always surprised when he does.
  • Padme mostly makes political puns. Everyone groans. That’s why she keeps it up. Their groans give her strength.
  • Shmi Skywalker is the undisputed champion of puns that look like groan-worthy humor on the surface but, on closer examination, turn out to be scathing indictments of people in power. As well as just really good puns.
  • Jar Jar Binks regularly drafts and submits legislation with punny names.
  • Sola Naberrie runs a holonet site that’s nothing but punny political memes. It takes on a decidedly revolutionary slant after the establishment of the Empire.
  • Breha Organa is capable of delivering puns with a completely straight face to Governor Tarkin, and even, on one memorable occasion, to Palpatine himself.
  • Bail Organa is a dad joke in human form.
  • Beru Whitesun takes after Shmi in her scathingly punny sense of humor.
  • Owen’s puns are much more groan worthy but Beru and Luke love him anyway.

And I could go on. This is a galaxy replete with punsters.

Except Palpatine. Sometimes he tries to make a pun, but it’s painfully obvious that his heart isn’t in it and though he can fake a lot of things, a decent sense of humor isn’t one of them.
