because he would be such a good father

things you should know about kaz brekker
  • his real name is kaz rietveld but he changed it to brekker when he saw this on a piece of machinery because he thought it sounds badass
  • he broke his leg but instead of letting it heal properly he was like “ah whatever” and then he got himself a cane with which he could probably smash skulls of his enemies
  • at 14 he had a crush on a girl named imogen but he would punch anyone who would dare to say that kaz brekker ever had Feelings™
  • he also had a brother, jordie, but he died
  • so kaz spent god knows how long plotting the Perfect Revenge and it was so good that the man who conned his brother didn’t even know what hit him, pekka was done did dead (not actually but y’know)
  • encourages rumors that he may be an actual demon (i mean im sure matthias wanted to exorcise the demjin at one point tbh)
  • probably started the rumor by disguising himself as someone else and telling people scary (and obviously made up) stories about THE kaz brekker because he’s Extra
  • he dresses in suits because he’s totally Not a thief, he’s a Businessman
  • he hates skin to skin contact which is why he always wears gloves
  • but he doesn’t mind taking them off around inej (or taking his shirt off and cleaning himself in front of her if we’re at this point)
  • he’s really good at maths (he probably threatened some poor soul into tutoring him but in a way that no one would know he actually needed tutoring because he’s THE kaz brekker and he was born smart)
  • practices magic so he can cheat even more
  • the boy would single-handedly break into fort knox
  • he would do literally anything for 30 million kruge (selling his soul included [he probably already did that tho])
  • i’m pretty sure kaz thinks he doesn’t need oxygen as long as he has the money
  • owns like 89 fancy hats
  • treats jesper like his brother and calls him “jes” because jesper’s father did that
  • says he only keeps wylan as a bait but at one point he adopts him even if he doesn’t know this
  • probably writes poems about inej’s laugh
  • goes batshit crazy after inej is injured, tortures and throws a guy who hurt her to the sea but then doesn’t speak to inej for 2 days
  • and when he finally does it’s to discuss money, Romantic™
  • man he loves inej so much but he suppresses the hell out of this
  • he’s obsessed with crows; he has a crow tattoo, he feeds crows, he knows everything about them, he probably talks to them like they’re his kids
  • he’s Not Bothered™ but then he says shit like “i’d crawl to you” or “she was lovely and brave and better than anything he deserved”
  • he’s a big softie for inej
  • honestly he acts like he doesn’t care but he would probably die for inej, nina and jesper
  • but also he’s an asshole and a control freak and he doesn’t even deny that
  • jesper probably shouts “you put cute in execute” whenever kaz kills someone
  • he never smiles
  • and he certainly Did Not Smile when he saw inej, wylan and jesper coming to his rescue in a freaking tank
  • (he did)

Dr Zhou Yong Chang’s Obituary

Party member of the Chinese Communist Party, Pioneer amd Founder of China’s Ultrasonic Medicine field, Director of Shanghai Training Center for Ultrasound in Medicine, Honorary Director of Shanghai Research Laboratory of Ultrasonic Medicine, Honorary Director of Ultrasonic Medicine of The 6th People’s Hospital of Shanghai, Professor Emeritus, Recipient of Special Government Allowance of the State Council, Model Worker of Shanghai, comrade Zhou Yong Chang, passed away on October 17 at 8.50AM after failing to respond to the treatment received. He was 95.

From when I was little
I could only go back to my old house in Shanghai once every year during the summer holidays.
I still remember it’s already very late every day when grandfather comes back from the hospital after work.
After he comes back, he sees that I’m watching Journey to the West alone.
Although grandfather is already very exhausted, and he needs to work early in the morning, he would spend time and make a golden cudgel with newspaper to play with me.
The golden cudgel made out of newspaper is ultimately still made out of newspaper, it broke after using it to hit for a few times, so everyday he would make a few of those to let me play with them.

Grandfather was not just a dedicated doctor, professor.
He was also a loving good grandfather, good father and good husband.

Even when he was 93, he still woke up every morning and turned up for work at the hospital.
Because of you, I understood what’s perseverance,
And also because of you,
I understood the spirit of being able to go through whatever suffering,
For the sake of the things I like.
I’m very proud that I could be your grandson,
And I will forever remember the things that you taught me.

We’ll do our best to take care of grandmother.

At the same time, on behalf of our family, I would like to thank family and friends that were here today.
And also very thankful to all the leaders.
And also very thankful to all the medical staff that treated and took care of my grandfather.
And also very honoured and thankful to The People’s Republic of China’s former premier Zhu Rongji
And the current Central Political Bureau Standing Committee, Han Zheng for sending the memorial flower basket.

Dear grandfather, go well.
You will forever live in our hearts.
We’ll always miss you. We love you.

“My father and his cousin created the first drug dealing territory in this favela back in the 60’s. It was a very violent place back then. Before my father came along—anyone with a weapon had absolute power. There was no law. There was no police to turn to. There were many homicides, burglaries, and rapes. My father played an important role. It was a cruel role, but it was important. He had to clean up the favela. The criminals weren’t just going to leave. They had to be erased. And my father did that job. He was a tiny man. He dressed well. He was educated, and polite, and humble. To many people he wasn’t a good person. But he was a righteous person. I didn’t follow in my father’s footsteps. I became a photographer and an activist. But I don’t see my father as a bad man. He brought rules to this place. And today’s drug traffickers enforce those same rules. This favela is one of the safest places in the city. Stealing is not allowed here. You can’t rape. You can’t hit a woman. Yes, there is violence. Because the police are always fighting the drug traffickers. But if the drug traffickers were gone tomorrow, the favela would be a far more dangerous place.”

So….I don’t know if anyone else has talked about this, but I think that Keith’s father left him. And though it is long, here is why:

When Keith hears his father’s voice, he’s shocked, but not completely horrified. The first words he says aren’t “I thought you were dead!” or anything similar, but instead

He even has the chance to ask how he might be alive (or like…anything similar) or what he’s doing there, but instead he goes right to, “What’s going on outside?” because that matters more to Keith than what his dad is doing back in their shack. And then his dad says:

“Don’t you want to catch up?” is not something you tell somebody when you’ve died, but when you’ve gone away for a while.

Keith’s response is “Of course I do,” but look at his expression. He doesn’t get it- and of course he wants to know what his dad has been doing, but he’s still confused and cautious.

Now, we already know that what these holograms do is pair Keith’s greatest hopes with his greatest fears.

We’ve also seen it before- it showed him Shiro, but hologram Shiro told Keith that he should give up the knife, and that choosing to find out his own past was selfish. That doesn’t stop Keith, though: “I’ve made my choice.” He doesn’t care if Shiro thinks he’s being selfish. What Shiro says and does next, though, is what makes him stop:

And then Shiro starts to walk away. Only then does Keith actually stop. Only then does Keith decide that maybe it isn’t worth it. Keith actually calls out to Shiro, and then starts to run after him.

You can tell from his expression, and from the fact that he literally runs after Shiro to stop him that Keith is desperate. Why?

Because one of Keith’s greatest fears is being left by the ones closest to him.

Why would this be one of his greatest fears?

Because it has happened before.

He follows Shiro and finds himself standing in front of the door that another person he cared for walked out of.

And once again, one of his greatest hopes is paired with one of his greatest fears. He wants to know about his past- that’s one of his hopes, but why would his father be the one to show him that, unless

One of his greatest hopes is that his father will come back.

This also makes the line, “Don’t you want to catch up?” and the fact that Keith doesn’t even ask why his father is back even more important. This is a scenario plucked from Keith’s mind: it’s a fantasy. He doesn’t necessarily want to know why his father might be back- there doesn’t have to be a reason. He just wants him back, anyway.

His other greatest fear, though, is that the Galra will come to Earth, and destroy it. In the end, the Earth matters more to Keith than his own father and past do, and maybe part of that is because he knows that his father didn’t care enough about him to stay.

Keith still hesitates, though.

Walking out that door means turning his back on his father, and what he thinks might be the last chance he has to know anything about his past. But he walks out anyway.

He looks his father in the eye as he says this. He doesn’t apologize, he doesn’t justify himself, he just says goodbye and leaves. That doesn’t strike me as the farewell somebody who was close with his father would give them as they walk out. And look at his expression? He’s not sorry. Maybe he’s hurt and torn, but more importantly, resolved. He is leaving, and his father will not stop him.

And also- neither of them acted like they were particularly close, either. There were no reunion hugs, and the only one who even smiled was Keith’s father (albeit somewhat creepily, but that’s irrelevant). And Keith wants to see his father again, but that doesn’t mean he would be happy if it happened. They didn’t part on good terms, however it may have happened.

TLDR: Keith’s father didn’t die, but left Keith many years ago- and because of that, one of his greatest fears is that Shiro, the only other person he’s become very close to, will do the same.

Imagine being Dean’s daughter and announcing to him that you are dating Jack.

“Him?” Dean’s rough voice broke the heavy silence that had set between the two of you “You are dating him?” he all-but-growled as he stared deeply in your eyes.

“Well, I- I wouldn’t say exactly dating yet, he’s not that familiar with the term and I’m-”

“Yet?!” Dean exclaimed, his voice coming slightly high-pitched “Yet? You mean this will keep going on?!”

“Well, yes dad of course it is!” you huffed, rolling your eyes “That’s why I am telling you, because this is actually important to me. And maybe Jack doesn’t quite understand the terms yet but I know that his feelings are real, that all of this between him and I is real as well.”

“Which again brings me back to my original question: Him?!” he looked at you with so much shock it made you groan and cross your arms over your chest.

“Will you try to be a little less surprised, please? I thought you’d be a little less shocked at your daughter-”

“Dating the son of Lucifer? Oh yeah!” he cut you off full of sarcasm and a hint of angst “Why the hell would I ever mind that (Y/n)?!”

15 Somewhat Mundane Facts About Jeffrey Dahmer:

  1. Disliked his brief employment as a phlebotomist because he hated sticking people with needles.
  2. Slept with around 200 people.
  3. Apparently liked flannel before it was cool–neighbor Vernell Bass recalled often seeing him in flannel, and he can be seen wearing flannel in several photographs.
  4. Was once as a senior given ten whacks from a paddle as punishment for being caught with alcohol at school.
  5. Admired jewelry, especially rings, and in fact bought a blue topaz ring for $1500 in the summer of 1987. He ended up pawning it a year later because he was low on cash.
  6. Vacuumed his apartment on Sundays. He generally liked keeping his home and his person very neat and tidy. However, when depressed, he would stop taking care of himself, going days without shaving or bathing, and his apartment would become littered with booze bottles.
  7. Thought it was a good idea to set up a Satanic altar complete with skulls and black glittering lights in his grandmother’s house.
  8. Favorite beer was Budweiser, “the king” of beers in his opinion.
  9. Liked McDonalds and once described himself as “living off” the restaurant chain’s food in a Thanksgiving home video recorded by his father.  Took refuge at the fast food establishment during his senior prom, which he decided to attend for some reason.
  10. Took German in high school.
  11. Enjoyed camp and the theatricality of drag queens.
  12. Among the items found in his apartment after his arrest were a tube of acne lotion, a taped episode of The Cosby Show, several jars of various protein powders, and two plastic griffins.  The only food in his apartment were bags of Doritos and Ruffles potato chips.
  13. Presented himself as a sort of class clown in high school, performing a variety of odd stunts such as bleating like a sheep, acting like a person afflicted with cerebal palsy, faking seizures, and screaming out random things in the middle of class.  However, his classmates usually laughed at him rather than with him, finding his sense of humor too dark and bizarre for comfort.
  14. Stated in his confession that he started drinking as young as age 13 to alleviate some of the severe shyness and anxiety he felt around his classmates.  A fellow student named Chip Crofoot reported that he’d seen Dahmer taking sips from a flask of gin he kept in his locker in seventh grade.
  15. Did not have air conditioning in his apartment.

parts: one | two | three

The week had gone by super quickly, much to your dismay. You had hoped for a slow week. You had tried to focus on school and your dance classes. Yugyeom had been a great distraction but sadly he wasn’t over today and neither was Yoongi. You had been so use to him spending the night that when he slept over last night you were shocked not to find him in bed with you. The truth was he had been over every night this week. It was weird to you, he’d hadn’t come over everyday since the beginning. One night you didn’t even have sex, you just cuddled on the couch and made out.

Then again he would barely talk to you. He’d come over and give you some of the best sex, fall asleep holding you and then would be gone once you woke up. You didn’t think much of it though because that’s something you were used to. What you were freaking out about was him texting you everyday about your parents.

Naruto’s Fatherhood

Okay, I’ve been seeing this whole idea going around for a while and felt the need to address it. A main point in the Boruto movie/series is that Boruto is frustrated with Naruto for not being around due to his Hokage duties. This leads to many fans assuming that Naruto is a bad father by choice. Let’s begin.

Naruto was inaugurated as Hokage after his kids were born. They were both young when this happened, so why is this relevant? Because Naruto had more time on his hands to spend with them, being a father, as he continued chasing his dream. What does this mean? Boruto and Himawari have experienced Naruto’s fatherhood before and after him taking the title of Hokage.

For children who have consistently been ignored by a parent, it’s safe to assume that by the time they are 11 or 12, they’ve become accustomed to it. Why then, would a child who is accustomed to being ignored and neglected, be so upset about that fact when it’s all they know? Let me remind you all of this scene here at the end of The Last:

Does this look like a bad father to you? They both attack him, and he receives them with open arms. He suggests a snowball fight, giving in immediately to their request. Children who’ve been ignored wouldn’t feel so carefree as to run into their parent’s arms, demanding that the parent play with them. Is it really that difficult then to make the connection that Naruto, who wanted nothing more than a bond, a family, someone who would receive his love and reciprocate it, gave his kids all of the free time that he had? This brings me to conclude this:

When all of that changes after Naruto becomes increasingly busy in his new position as Hokage, Boruto doesn’t understand how to cope with these feelings because he’s never felt that way before. This is the best explanation for his behavior then. He’s openly upset because he feels as though Naruto suddenly forgot about them, because he’s not getting the same attention he once was. Let me point you to this scene here, in Boruto the Movie where Boruto is looking at all of the photographs in Naruto’s study.

In all of the photographs leading up to the one farthest right, appearing to be the most recent, Naruto is present and they all appear incredibly joyful. This only solidifies the idea that Naruto had been a wonderful father up until his Hokage inauguration.

Naruto, on the other hand, has finally achieved his lifelong dream, and being someone who puts everything they have into everything they do, he works hard at his job because it was he who worked so hard to create the peace that he now has the task of maintaining. Is he perfect? No. Naruto has never had to balance family life and work life. He’s always been alone, never having to consider others in his decisions. It’s not difficult to understand then, that Naruto genuinely wouldn’t have understood the implications this would have for his family.

Naruto has never learned how to be any type father, good or bad. He has no example to follow or deviate from. When you’ve never experienced something for yourself, how are you to act upon the situation when it arises? At some point, Boruto brought up his feelings to Naruto in some way, probably through an angry outburst. So how does Naruto handle it? He over-exhausts himself, trying to make everyone happy by maintaining his shadow clones all day in order to get the maximal amount of work done possible and keep his kids from totally hating him. For someone who has desired nothing more than the acknowledgment of those around him since day 1, this behavior makes sense.

I mean, the disappointment he feels when he’s messed up again? He’s trying his best with nothing to guide him. He sends Boruto congratulatory e-mails, he gives him a pep talk, he wants Boruto to feel acknowledged. Is this the best way to go about it? Maybe not, especially compared to the attention he must’ve given his kids before his new position. But, I sincerely doubt that Naruto is a bad father, nor does he want to be one. It’s a difficult situation for them. The new Boruto series is currently set before the Boruto movie during their academy days, so this must be during the onset of Naruto’s run as a Hokage. Therefore, that scene in today’s episode where he goes straight to bed after coming home is probably before Boruto brings his frustration to his father’s attention, so Naruto is probably unaware of the way his kids are feeling.

However, Boruto quickly comes to understand Naruto and his struggles when he witnesses him fight the Otsusukis during the movie. Faced with the prospect of losing his father completely, his eyes have been opened to some of the difficulties Naruto faced in his youth. He decides that Naruto shouldn’t have to face more difficulties from the people he loves the most. He comes to terms with the situation by the end of Boruto the Movie, eventually accepting that this is the situation that they are in, and that he’s going to have to make the best of it.

And if his own son can accept that this is Naruto’s new fatherhood, I don’t see why you guys can’t.

TL;DR, Naruto’s fatherhood definitely has some bumps in the road, there’s no denying that. However, his intentions as a father are clear, and those are that he loves his kids and wants them to be happy, like a GOOD father would.

April, 1938
London, England

The store sat empty, as it did most days of the week. Dust regularly collected on the cash register sitting in front of you and its brass keys grew stiff with the lack of activity. With your elbows propped up on the counter, you leaned your weight forward and held your chin in the hand that wasn’t busy drumming across the countertop. They tapped in time with the clock ticking on the wall, a constant reminder that you were stuck here on such a lovely day outside.

It was unusually warm for this time of year. Normally covered in a dreary layer of gray, the sidewalks and storefronts shone in the rare-April sunshine, people out and about, taking advantage of the weather. You were antsy as you watched out the window, hoping that someone, anyone, would walk through the door and give you something to talk about.

20 Autobot Leaders Rated by How Much I Want to Punch Them

Starting with the big guy, the granddaddy of them all, G1 Optimus Prime. He’s like a father to me. I can’t in good conscience punch him, even if he sometimes deserves it for bad puns. 1/10 punchability I just can’t do it

Rodimus Prime ranks high in the punchability for some because when Optimus died in the original movie, it traumatized kids so much that all their negative feelings got channeled into unbridled rage towards the guy who replaced him. However, I hate those guys because they became insufferable as adults, so that really just lowers Roddy’s punchability for me personally. 4/10 punchability he still kind of deserves it though

Grimlock led the Autobots for a length of time I can’t remember after Optimus died in the Marvel comics. His was a reign of terror. I can’t decide if his jughead crown is kickin or if i want to kick it off him. 7/10 punchability he gets some lenience for his childlike innocence

Another Marvel comics leader was Fortress Maximus, who was also Cerebros. He was also the leader in the Headmasters anime after Rodimus flew off into space forever but I don’t think he actually had a personality in that. He’s a matryoshka of Autobot leaders with each getting smaller and more punchable than the last, ending in Moody College Student Spike Witwicky, who is thankfully the first one on this list who I don’t have to climb something to punch in the face. 9/10 punchability I’m a very short person so I might have to climb something anyways but that isn’t going to stop me

Last Marvel comics character, I swear. Captain Picard Hi-Q binary bonded with Optimus for a while, then Optimus died (this was about the third time), and Hi-Q eventually turned into Optimus so we just considered Optimus alive again. Don’t think too hard about it. 3/10 punchability I really like Star Trek TNG so I probably wouldn’t punch him

Ginrai’s robot self looks exactly like Optimus Prime, but he isn’t. Why he looks like him is sort of hand-waved away in the anime. The real-life reason, of course, is because he was just the Japanese release of Powermaster Optimus Prime. Ginrai is really good because he talks like an American teenager even when his robot form separated from his human self to become the Autobot commander at the end of Super-God Masterforce. 0/10 punchability I just can’t really punch a guy wearing converse, skinny jeans, and suspenders

Star Saber makes me forget that the Autobots were ever good guys. I don’t think he even has a personality outside of “noble and heroic leader.” He adopted a human son and tried to send him to a Catholic school but he doesn’t even buy him a uniform. The kid barely even goes to school in the end. 9/10 punchability don’t adopt a human if you’re not prepared to care for him

Optimus Primal is a good Autobot leader because he never even set out to be anything more than a captain on one ship but ended up sacrificing himself to bring life back to the planet, probably sparking a religious following. He won the “Power of the Primes” vote so he’s got to have a pretty low punchability, but he also looks like his malleble gorilla face would feel nice on my powerful fist. 5/10 punchability when POTP stuff starts coming will his name change to “optimus primal prime”?

Lio Convoy being a cat makes me not want to punch him so much. However, he isn’t a good father. Don’t worry about the kid not really being his son in any sense of the term. Why is ineptitude at fatherhood a recurring theme for Autobot leaders? 8/10 punchability Lio Junior deserved better

I’ll admit that Beast Wars Neo is the only thing on this list that I haven’t seen or read any of, so Big Convoy is mostly here for completion’s sake. Hence I’m rating him entirely on his appearance. Mostly I wouldn’t want to punch a mammoth, because they’re extinct, but I think he could take it. It would be a good workout for both of us. 10/10 punchability no hard feelings, we’re just two dudes lovingly punching each other

In Japan, he’s known as Fire Convoy, continuing their tradition of Autobot leader names, but in the west he’s the first-ever reboot of Optimus Prime. I don’t have a lot of opinions on him as a person or leader, but his existence opened the floodgates of Optimus Primes to come, which I have mixed feelings on. 5/10 punchability I can’t think of a reason to punch him, but I also can’t think of a reason not to

Armada Optimus Prime suffers from being Armada Optimus Prime. I think this was when they really managed to distill “Optimus Prime” down into its truest form. No longer was Optimus Prime a character, but a concept that extended beyond fiction and into our world. Optimus Prime means something. Optimus Prime is a figure for justice, honor, and liberty. 8/10 punchability I still can’t forget Energon though

Do I have to say anything. I’m not even somebody who vehemently dislikes Hot Shot, but for the love of god, why did he ever get to be a leader. 6/10 punchability I’d punch him but I wouldn’t put a lot of force into it, he’s not even worth it

Movie Optimus Prime is. uh. something else, all right. I can admire the movie taking the idea of Optimus Prime and going “okay, but what if he was also a murderbeast?” because I think that’s something we all really wanted to see play out. In practice it kind of scares me. 2/10 punchability I’m worried if I went for his face I’d no longer have mine

Animated Optimus Prime is a good boy. A baby boy. He’s trying his best in a world that seems against him. We all love him. 0/10 punchability I simply can’t bring myself to mar those luscious lips

I’m sure Animated Ultra Magnus did some great things during the war, but, yunno, seeing how Cybertron under him during peacetime is sort of a Stratocracy, I question his fitness to be the leader of a planet. They really gonna let the government run experiments on civilians? Okay. Alright. 4/10 I don’t want to punch him per se but I do sort of want to lead an armed rebellion against him

Hhh. HHHH. HOOGH. HHHAAAHH. HEH. HHhhhHHH. Just seeing Sentinel Prime’s face fills me with anger. If let loose, this rage could level mountains, sink continents, and incinerate entire solar systems. If there is any good in the cosmos, Sentinel Prime will not go unpunched. His face will be shattered into pieces with the sheer power of my unbridled fury. 10,000/10 punchability I have already punched him, spiritually, and I will do it again

I mean, alright. Prime Optimus Prime is kind of the distilled essence of Optimus Prime. If you took all the other Optimus Primes, and took all the things they had in common, and then took out a little bit of the anger because let’s be real here all the other Optimus Primes are quite a bit angrier than this one, you’d get Aligned Optimus Prime. Which is kind of how the Aligned continuity as a whole works. So, yeah, That Sure Is Optimus Prime. 3/10 punchability his soft-spoken words of wisdom would calm me down before I ever even raised my fist

Heatwave is the quintessential non-Optimus Autobot leader. He’s noble and courageous with a good sense of justice, but he was thrust into leadership without being the best and it and is a bit of a hothead. You can use that exact sentence to describe so many of the bots on this list. 4/10 punchability I don’t want to use violent methods when it comes to Rescue Bots but sometimes Heatwave’s personality warrants it

I honestly can’t believe it took 30 years for a Bumblebee to be leader for reals. It happened so gradually that nobody was surprised when it happened, and yet it also feels like nobody can really accept it. I know I can’t. He doesn’t even look like any Bumblebee. Is this how longtime G1 fans felt when the Unicron trilogy started reusing names for different-but-not-wholly-different characters to keep the trademarks? 8/10 punchability we know you stole your schtick from Hot Rod via Hot Shot so stop trying to act like you’re so special

Author’s Note: I pretty much took a whole day off from life to work on this, since I start school on Monday and wanted to try and get through as much writing as I can before hell starts.

Summary: As royalty, you were forced to be sent off and married to a prince of the neighboring kingdom to strengthen your country. But when you are betrothed earlier than you expected, you seek comfort in a random stranger until you realize that perhaps fate plays a bigger hand in things than you ever thought possible.

.

For the record, you never asked to be a princess. Not that you think you would ever have had an upper hand in a situation like that in the first place, or that you expected things to be different if you could go back in time to watch your family history unfold. It’s just something that’s short, and simple, and a fleeting thought you ponder about on more than one occasion, which is certainly a lot more times than someone who was actually happy with their lives would think.

Now, it’s not that you’re ungrateful with the life you’ve been gifted with, you’re well aware of the luck you’ve received, because at the end of the day, it’s the kind of lifestyle that guarantees food upon the table. It promises a roof over your house during the night, during the rain or snow, (more than) comfortable clothing to keep you warm throughout the bitter winter. The gold and motivation and rule your family has over the kingdom is nothing to shy away from.

It just, it provokes a lot of… pressure in your system, in your heart and in your mind.

Most of these things sprout from your father, who is probably just as ruthless as he is caring and hard-working and passionate about the land he is expected to rule over with grace and respect and an equal amount of force to make sure the people of the kingdom didn’t take advantage of him. He’s always been a loving father, albeit expecting the most out of you between your two other siblings. As caring or thoughtful or empathetic has he could be, there were often moments in your life when your best was never good enough for him.

You’ve been taught since birth to follow the orders and rules set up by your father because, as so graciously pointed out by the servants the dusk and clean and care for you on more than one occasion, your father always did what he believed would be best for you. So every piano or violin or guitar lesson he ever made you take, those foreign language lessons, classes on discipline and how to look, think, behave like a princess—those were always for your own future benefit.

“Keep your back straight, shoulders back, smile pretty.”

Always cut small pieces of your meal. Take small sips of your drinks. Always remember to wipe your mouth with a napkin.”

“Don’t speak unless spoken to.”

It’s not that you hate being a princess. You just hate having things being done for you, you hate how decisions and that free-will of choice and responsibility has been ever-so-graciously lifted off your shoulders as if these were things you would never have to burden yourself with. You hate not having a voice, your words drowned by the ones of your father or mother. Your existence has constantly been overshadowed by those greater than you could ever hope to be. You hate the role you have to play into society, how you had to spend your days dealing with other people’s problems. Shouldering a kingdom is no laughing matter, there are rules and regulations and decisions that constantly need to be made to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone who live within the borders. Your mere existence is to live for other people.

It’s exhausting.

But in spite of your feelings, you know that changing fate is practically impossible. So you roll with your father’s wishes, because you understand that this is duty you owe to your kingdom. Perhaps at the end of the day, it will truly never really matter what you desire. From the moment you were birth, your entire life story has already been written by you, the quill of ink belonging to your father and mother and every other person who thought they could know you better than you could ever know yourself.

You let yourself take everything in. You visit the nearby villages and listen to everyone’s problems, their hopes and wishes and promise to become stronger and stronger to help them. You take the lessons set up by your father. You keep your back straight, your eyes forward, your mouth shut. You accept the fancy parties and the wine, the dancing and the violins echoing through your ear, speaking only when you are spoken to. It’s torture, but you have to remind yourself that is it your duty, your obligation and your responsibility.

You even let your father tell you that there will come a day when you will be sent off to a predetermined prince in a neighboring kingdom, be married off into a family you don’t know and perhaps will never truly belong to—all for the benefit of your kingdom. You let him tell you this, and you accept it. You give yourself a few years to mentally prepare yourself, expecting your father at the very least to grant you this one wish.

A raised eyebrow. “But the prince could be ready to meet you any day now.”

GoT S07E05 Thoughts

Fuck me.

This might have been my least favourite episode to date and we had Gendry!!! Okay, in all fairness, it wasn’t a bad episode. There was just one particular conflict that I am not looking forward to seeing continue.

And no, it’s not Jon3rys. I couldn’t give two shits about that right now.

But let’s begin, shall we?

For anyone who still believes Dany to be a good person, I honestly suggest going to an optometrist or retaking high school English because how much more obvious can this show get? I didn’t get to write down her full speech, but following this:

“I’m not here to murder…”

With this:

“Bend the knee and join me or refuse and die”

You’re kind of a hypocrite and a really obvious one at that. War is horrible, I get it, and good people do atrocious things in war, but that’s why we, as modern somewhat enlightened (although questionable) human beings, have war trials. People may die in war, as that is inevitable, but there are certain acts that no decent human should perform even in the midst of war.

I know I’m quoting Wikipedia here, but whatever:

Examples of war crimes include intentionally killing civilians or prisoners, torture, destroying civilian property, taking hostages, perfidy, rape, using child soldiers, pillaging, declaring that no quarter will be given, and serious violations of the principles of distinction and proportionality, such as strategic bombing of civilian populations.

Do you think a man as concerned with portraying war as a clusterfuck of morally grey characters would place an entitled figure with weapons of mass destruction which she uses indiscriminately, who commits war crimes, as the main protagonist? Do you think that is a good conclusion? And this is simply going by this episode and not the mess Dany made in previous seasons.

She had Randyll and Dickon Tarly as her prisoners. There was no need to execute them, or at least no need to execute both of them. If she wanted to make an example, she could do so with Randyll, but fine, let’s concede the fact it had to be done. She burned them. A slow, horrible, agonising death. She could have beheaded them, as was customary in Westeros, but no, she chose to burn them because you know why? She likes it. She’s done it before. Burning her enemies gives her great satisfaction of her power, but also it spreads fear into the hearts of everyone there because she knows it’s the only way to get them to submit.

If she allowed them the third option of becoming a prisoner of war, she knows they’d choose that over her. She even says so to Tyrion, because guess what? The people of Westeros doesn’t like or want Dany as their queen. Cersei may be a Grade A Bitch, but she’s the bitch they know. She doesn’t have dragons to burn those who defy her at her will. Yes, she’s powerful and could still easily execute people at a moment’s notice, but they’ve seen her humiliated and frightfully human when she was made to walk naked in shame through the streets of King’s Landing. She is human and she can fall. To them, Dany wields her power like a god and not the kind they worship out of love but out of fear. What kind of ruler is that?

And let’s talk about execution in general here. We’ve seen a lot of it over the seasons, and what we always come back to as a code of honour and true morality in this grey world is this quote from Mr Honour himself, Ned Stark:

“The man who passes the sentence should swing the sword. If you would take a man’s life, you owe it to him to look into his eyes and hear his final words. And if you cannot bear to do that, then perhaps the man does not deserve to die.”

Mr Honour Jr aka Jon Snow lives by this rule like a life motto. If he must sentence a man to die, he will swing the sword himself, and throughout the show, we’ve seen Jon do this and we’ve seen how this weighs upon him, though the culprits may be deserving. Yes, people die in war and Jon has killed on the battlefield for survival, but executing someone is a deliberate act. It’s taking the life of a human while they are powerless to stop you. Jon doesn’t take any pleasure in it.

But Dany… She’s executed people left, right and center. Burning them in the most unnecessarily cruel way because she can and because it instills fear. Feeding them to her dragons which is even worse. That’s not at her hand. That’s cowardly and sadistic.

You know who else rules through fear?

“The only way to keep your people loyal is to make certain they fear you more than they do the enemy.”

Cersei bloody Lannister.

Yeah, let that sink in. And let’s move on.

Jon meeting Drogon. I hated this scene, although I see how it’s important in establishing Jon as a Targaryen. I didn’t like it mostly because I was still reeling Drogon burning the Tarly’s alive, and yet right after, they have Jon bonding with Drogon like some special moment. But do you think Jon would even touch that dragon if he knew the horrors Dany had made Drogon do? Or the fact that she just executed Jon’s best friend’s family in the worst way possible? Yeah, Sam hated his father, but he didn’t hate his brother. And no matter what animosity there was between them, Sam is a good person and he would still be devastated by this. Not to mention we weren’t given all those Dickon scenes where the man acted with honour, kindness and bravery, just to dismiss him as another faceless enemy of Dany’s. He was Sam’s brother and so much like Sam in a way. I think that’s what made his death in spite only knowing him for 2 episodes so heartbreaking. Also, why this meeting between Jon and Drogon made me angry and disgusted.

Of course, it also establishes some Jon3rys bonding, although more so on Dany’s side. Let’s face it, the Dragon Queen wants familial Dragon D. Her heart eyes for Jon throughout this episode was at least 100x more convincing than previous episodes between them. Jon, on the other hand, has moments where he does seem to think Dany is alright, but I still don’t see the same level of affection on his end at all. As always, he has a one-track mind and that’s the war up North.

And I’m sorry but Dany’s attraction towards Jon seems to predicate on her notion that he’s as heroic and powerful as her. I get that he is and that’s a wonderful reason to fall in love with him, but it’s still falling in love with the idea of him and not who he is, because who Jon is, isn’t that person. He doesn’t want to be a hero or to be powerful. I know Show Jon doesn’t go into this, but Book Jon wants a family, to settle in Winterfell and live peacefully and honourably like his pseudo father. But Dany will never know that about him because she doesn’t know him. Take her asking Jon about whether he got a knife to the heart, the wonder and awe in her eyes as she asks him. She wants him to be just like her (or her delusional perception of herself as some kind of prophesised princess that was promised). Jon is who she thinks she is and she’s attracted to that, which is basically some Game of Thrones version of Narcissus. When she realises he’s a Targaryen, she’ll feel threatened more than relieved she’s not alone, because if she thinks he’s her then she’ll think he wants the Iron Throne and he’s a threat to her ambitions.

There’s a reason why after all that Gilly discovers the Rhaegar and Elia annulment (which btw is such bullshit but whatever). Jon has more right to the Iron Throne than she does.

What’s funny about this episode that even Dany’s Second Biggest Fan struggles to support her. Yes, he still will, but that entire conversation he has with Varys just sounds a lot like he’s trying to convince himself that ‘yes, all rulers burn their prisoners like a sadistic pyroqueen, and yes, Dany is so not like her father’. And the fact that her own loyal subjects are questioning her? Yeah, tell me again how she’s a hero.

Now onto the main reason why I hate this episode: StarkBowl. But oh ho, not Jon and Sansa StarkBowl but Sansa and Arya.

I’ve always loved Arya. She was my favourite character for so many seasons, until I fell madly in love with Sansa, although Arya remains in my Number 2 spot. But this episode, I felt such a burning anger towards her. After all they’ve been through, everything Sansa’s endured, Arya would still hold her accountable for the beliefs Sansa held as a young child. She’s changed and grown so much on account of her experiences yet she will not lend her own sister the same courtesy. It pisses me off because what Arya is doing (judging and accusing Sansa of things she didn’t do or for who she was when she was a child) is exactly what Anti-Sansa’s have been doing for years. And her own short-sighted, ignorant inability to grasp that this woman before her is not the same Sansa she once knew has now led her to being manipulated and conned by Littlefinger.

What I can only hope is that Sansa is smarter than Littlefinger. Bran wouldn’t give Arya the dagger if he foresaw Arya using it on Sansa. And I feel like it is so uncharacteristic of Arya, who has longed for so long to be reunited with her pack, to suddenly break down by childish prejudice at the first miscommunication. Sansa is far more cunning than anyone gives her credit for and I feel that this could all be a long orchestrated con on Littlefinger himself. Arya’s not that stupid. I refuse to believe she’s stupid enough to underestimate LF that way and let herself be manipulated so easily. I feel like perhaps that fight between Sansa and Arya was for LF’s benefit because it felt so contrived, so out of nowhere. I know this speculation is also heavily biased by my refusal to believe that the Starks would fight amongst themselves after all they went through, but I do believe that LF will die this season. It won’t be at Sansa’s hand but it will be because of Sansa’s machinations.

Now, onto Gendry!!!!!

The happiest part about this hell episode because fuck, he’s so hot still. That cropped hair, those muscles, that smile… Yeah, swoon. He’s also hilariously bullheaded (very like a Baratheon) when he ignores Davos, hits those soldiers with his hammer and immediately tells Jon who he is.

In fact, there was this instant spark of chemistry between Gendry and Jon in their first meeting.

“You’re a lot leaner.”

“You’re a lot shorter.”

The gentle ribbing of two strangers is adorable, but it also reminds me of Ned and Robert’s first scene together:

“Your Grace.”

"You’ve got fat.”

Now the parallels of Jon as Ned is nothing we haven’t seen before. Gendry as Robert is newer, and Jon and Gendry together as Ned and Robert is so satisfying to watch. It also makes me, a trash shipper, so happy because you know if Jon is being paralleled as Ned in this episode, you know who is being paralleled as Cat?

Yes, that’s right. Strong, confident Sansa, who was called only Lady Stark in the Great Hall meeting.

I know I’m crazy but I’m still not worried about Jonsa. That scene in the Great Hall just kept making me think of Sansa as Penelope. She’s there holding onto Winterfell for Jon’s return as he gallivants off on his many missions and overcomes his many trials. She’s there, always loyal and true to him, and maintains his kingdom for him

Boatbang may happen (likely), but Odysseus also slept with Calypso, before ultimately returning to his lady love. I believe the same will happen for Jonsa.

Also, who thinks Cersei’s not actually pregnant? I think she’s beginning to question Jaime’s loyalty and needs to firmly hold him in place. And I think when he finds out she’s not after all he’s done for, all the sinful things he did, it might make him plunge that sword into her heart prophecy-style. Or not a sword. I don’t know.

But that’s it for me. My head hurts. My heart hurts. And I maintain that I hate this episode because fuck StarkBowl. And fuck disrespecting Sansa like that

Honestly, it vexes me when I consistently see people saying that they don’t want to see redemption arcs.

And to clarify because I don’t want to beat around the bush, I do mean Kylo Ren in particular—though this could be generalized for other characters, too, I guess?

Kylo falls under the role of an antagonist. He has done horrible things: he is the Jedi Killer, he ordered the slaughter of those people at the start of the film, tortured Poe for information, fetched information from Rey’s mind and killed his own father. These are actions that firmly establish him as Not Good. He wouldn’t be an antagonist if he didn’t do bad things, would he?

But context is very important, and the finer emotional nuances in scenes such as Han’s death need to be evaluated less simplistically. In multiple source materials, it is canonically established that Kylo Ren is not pure evil. He struggles with the actions he believes he must take. Adam Driver has described Kylo Ren as someone who (while not verbatim, the intent of words is the same) “feels what he’s doing is right, and feels justified in his actions because of that.” If you want the full bit of what he said, just for clarity, here:

Well, I don’t know. I certainly didn’t think of him that way in playing him, that he is doing anything villainous. It’s more if he thinks what he is doing is right, and being justified by it. And then trying to tell the story of why – making it a person as much as possible.

“Wait!” You might say. “He thinks the fucked up shit he’s doing is right? How is that at all supposed to make me want this guy to have a redemption arc?”

This is where we get into the finer details and lore, my friend. While the matter of Ben Solo’s grooming by Snoke is an entire other issue the fandom is up in arms about, the fact that he was targeted in the womb is undeniable. There are multiple written scenes in the Aftermath novel that lead to this conclusion:

The dark, now lit with stars. One by one, like eyes opening. Comforting at first, then sinister as she worries. Who is out there, who is watching us? Hands reach for her, hands of shadow, lifting her up, reaching for her throat, her wrists, her stomach -

Inside, the child kicks. She feels her baby turning inside, right-side, up and down, struggling to find his bearings, trying so hard to find his way free of her. It’s not time, she thinks. Just a little longer.

He is less a human shaped thing and more a pulsing, living band of light. Light that sometimes dims, that sometimes is thrust with a vein of darkness. She tells herself that it’s normal - Luke said to her, Leia, we all have that. He explained that the brighter the light, the darker the shadow.

The baby turns inside her again, troubled by something she cannot feel and cannot yet understand.

As well as this moment from the novelization of TFA:

Leia bit her lower lip, refusing to concede. “No. It was Snoke.

Han drew back slightly. “Snoke?”

She nodded. “He knew our child would be strong with the Force. That he was born with equal potential for good or evil.” “You knew this from the beginning? Why didn’t you tell me?”

She sighed. “Many reasons. I was hoping that I was wrong, that it wasn’t true. I hoped I could sway him, turn him away from the dark side, without having to involve you.” A small smile appeared.

“You had—you have—wonderful qualities, Han, but patience and understanding were never among them. I was afraid that your reactions would only drive him farther to the dark side. I thought I could shield him from Snoke’s influence and you from what was happening.” Her voice dropped. “It’s clear now that I was wrong. Whether your involvement would have made a difference, we’ll never know.”

He had trouble believing what he was hearing. “So Snoke was watching our son.”

Always,” she told him. “From the shadows, in the beginning, even before I realized what was happening, he was manipulating everything, pulling our son toward the dark side.

And then, of course, are these additions from JJ:

It’s more than just having a ‘bad seed’ as a kid. Snoke had targeted this kid and knew that this kid was going to be incredibly powerful in The Force and wanted him as an ally.

So this mother and father had a target as a son, someone who’s watching their boy, and these parents aren’t there enough to guide him.

Kylo Ren is a villain, but he’s also a victim and this plays—no matter what people might want to think—a very integral role in his character progression. Snoke has been an influence on Ben Solo’s life for almost as long as he’s existed. There has likely never been a Ben Solo that existed without that outside influence. According to the timeline we’ve been able to establish about Kylo, he defected when he was in his 20s—meaning there is a part of him that always resisted the seduction of the dark side, but eventually gave in.

But why did he give in? What was the extent of this manipulation on Snoke’s behalf that could cause a golden child from some of our favorite heroes to go so wrong?

The thing is, we can’t be sure. We only know that Ben was kept from the truth about his lineage and when that knowledge came forward, he felt betrayed. Worse, it is likely that the combination of Snoke’s influence and the respective actions/inactions of his parents (no matter how well meaning) all served to push him off that edge.

My two cents? Kylo Ren has the illusion that what he’s doing is right because what he used to believe in—his parents, the Jedi, the light—were proven to be ‘wrong’ when he found out the truth. This all-knowing force that had guided him all his life had been right instead.

“The supreme leader is wise.”

I believe that in the end, the rhetoric of the dark side and Snoke became the only thing left to Ben Solo that made sense anymore. So he did what Snoke told him was right, because he’d been right about everything else. He follows his dark path almost religiously because it’s all that’s left to him now.

When Han talks to Kylo Ren on  that bridge, he isn’t talking to the Jedi Killer—he is talking to his son. He is talking to his boy who has not heard his own name in god knows how long (because Ben Solo is dead) and he is getting through to him. When Han Solo asks Kylo Ren to come back home, Kylo Ren does not laugh in his face. He doesn’t proclaim his father a fool. He doesn’t praise the dark side.

He says, with tears in his eyes, “It’s too late.”

In my opinion, it’s practically an admittance that this is not what he wanted. He does not want to be on that bridge, preparing to do what he’s going to do. I think he wants to go back home, but—going back to what I said earlier about the dark being all he has left—he believes that there’s nothing left, though Han is offering him family again. Because if his father is right, then what has he done? What has he done all this time? If Han is right, he has made so many unforgivable mistakes, and who could live with that? If what he’s done is not right, then what does that make him?

Anyone would have a hard time swallowing that. It has to be right, because if it’s wrong, the alternative is unthinkable.

JJ has another memorable quotation that I can (and will) reference back to in order to support this:

People have asked me if I think that Kylo Ren was just playing with him the whole time, if he meant to kill him from the beginning. And the truth is, I think Kylo Ren, in this moment, is actually being convinced to walk away from this. Snoke is, as Han says, using him, and I think that somewhere Ben knows this. But I think that he can’t accept it. Deep down, he has gone too far.

Despite anything Kylo Ren has said, Ben Solo is still very much alive. The action of killing Han Solo was an act from Snoke meant to quiet that voice completely. It’s not weakness in his apprentice that Snoke fears: it’s his apprentice thinking for himself and having Ben Solo’s power used against him. He played the long game. Every investment he made into the birth of Kylo Ren was to ensure he had this quivering mass of rage and anguish fighting on his behalf. He does not want Kylo Ren to be at peace with the pull inside of him the way Kylo Ren thinks killing his father will achieve.

He wants Kylo Ren to suffer. He wants to Kylo Ren to sabotage himself until there truly is no way back.

At the end of the day, it’s important for people to realize this: redemption arcs are not about what a character deserves. It never will be about deserving. Han Solo deserves justice? Yes. Poe and Rey deserve justice? Yes. Finn deserves justice? Yes. Does Kylo Ren deserve to be punished for what he’s done? Of course. Redemption arcs aren’t about justice either, however. It isn’t about cleansing an antagonist of their sins or punishing them.

It’s the antagonist realizing the horror of what they’ve done and deciding they need to do something to make things right. Whether that be a sacrifice or a lifetime’s worth of service in the name of a greater good, it doesn’t matter. It’s about repenting.

This is about Kylo Ren realizing the light wasn’t a lie, that he doesn’t have to tear himself apart anymore. That he’s drawn to it for a reason. This is about reparations to a galaxy, an abuse victim realizing he is being abused. Gaining his independence for the first time in his life. Giving his father’s soul peace, and his mother one more piece of her shattered family back after everything she has lost.

That is a redemption arc.

Hi, Cassie! :) I’m rereading Nothing But Shadows, and I have a question – hopefully you’ll be able to answer! So… we know that, while in the Academy, Jem met with James. But did he talk with Alastair, too? I feel like that spoiled brat could use some advice. If not – has Jem ever even met his cousins before? Is he still close to the Carstairs? In Nothing but Shadows, Brother Zachariah/Jem visited James in the middle of the night because James was in need, and because Zachariah was summoned to do so by the Dean of the Academy, who had no real idea how to deal with James’s peculiar nature, and wanted the guidance of the Silent Brothers. Jem was certainly glad to be there, because he loved James, and was concerned for him. But it was not his idea to come. He was brought there in an official capacity:

And the presence of a Silent Brother in the Academy meant nothing good. Father was always inventing excuses for Uncle Jem to come to them—once he had claimed a flowerpot was possessed by a demon. But this was Idris, and a Silent Brother would be summoned to Shadowhunter children only in a time of need.

There seems to be an idea circulating that Jem should be spending more time with the people of his bloodline, specifically the Carstairs. That is an odd attitude to have about Jem, though, because the ethos that shared DNA matters more than love, dedication or actions isn’t really congruent with his ethics or his stated beliefs. Yes, the Carstairs are his family, but so are the Herondales, and he doesn’t have a history of privileging shared DNA over shared history.

For instance: Elias offered to take Jem in after he was orphaned, but as the two were never close, Jem chose not to go, because he’d already found a home (and a parabatai) at the London Institute. From Clockwork Princess:

“James spoke of you,” said Elias. “After I left China, when I returned to Idris, I asked if he would come and live with me. But when I asked him if he would come to me in Idris, he said no, he could not. I asked him to reconsider. Told him I was his family, his blood. But he said he could not leave his parabatai, that there were some things more important than blood.”

From Jem’s perspective, the parabatai ceremony made him family with the Herondales. He would scoff at the idea that Alastair is more related to him than James in much the same way that an adopted child wouldn’t have much time for the idea that their biological parent was their family in a way their adoptive parent wasn’t. In Jem’s view, the Herondales are his family (not his only family — and not to the detriment of the Carstairs, imho, but they are his family). Part of the message of all of the Shadowhunter books is that blood isn’t love. The Fairchilds and Herondales and even the Lightwoods have done a lot for Jem in his life, where the Carstairs have done relatively little. Elias respected Jem’s decision not to live with him, but as we know, afterwards, he wasn’t particularly good at keeping in touch.

Of course, Jem would never blame Alastair and Cordelia for the indifference of their progenitors; however he does have a hard time actually getting to see them. Silent Brothers aren’t allowed to come and go as they please. Their movements are circumscribed; they are expected to go wherever they are sent, and return to the Silent City when their mission is completed, with no dilly-dallying about. It was much easier for Jem to visit the London Institute than it would have been for him to chase down the Carstairs family as they traveled in Persia and France.

There’s also the larger issue that after Jem became a Silent Brother, Elias actually worked actively to keep Brother Zachariah away from his family, which you’ll learn more about in the Last Hours.

In spite of their father’s wishes, Cordelia did develop a friendship with Jem, one that deepens over the course of the Last Hours. But Jem has had a more contentious relationship with Alastair. Alastair has always been creeped out by the Silent Brothers, and especially by the idea of being related to one. He tries to avoid Brother Zachariah whenever possible, to the extent of telling people that Jem isn’t his relative, so you can imagine that Alastair would not exactly be pleased to be woken by him in the middle of the night for a surprise visit!

Could Alastair use some other influences in his life? Older, wiser souls to give him advice? Yes, he could. But Jem wouldn’t be his top choice for the role. Alastair is just a kid in Nothing But Shadows, and he has a lot of growing up to do. Jem would be sympathetic to that, but Alastair is the one who has rejected him, not the other way around.

Imagine Dean bonding with your daughter who has a soft spot for him and not missing a chance to flirt with you.

“Press the button?” Dean’s voice was heard as you cautiously made your way upstairs, not wanting to make your presence known yet just because you wanted to see what he and Mary were doing.

“Press the button.” her little voice was heard and you smiled without even realizing it yourself.

“And down we gooooo!” Dean made a voice and soon a huff was heard along with Mary’s giggles. You rested your weight on the doorframe, still not saying a word as you watched the green-eyed man play with your daughter.

“Can we go again?” her little voice was heard in between her giggles and you saw Dean chuckle; none of them had realized you were standing there watching them.

“Again? Ok. Hop up!” he grinned at the little girl and you bit the inside of your cheek as you fought to keep a smile off your face. In vain.

“And up we go!” he slowly lifted her as she was sitting on his shoulders.

“Press the button.” he pointed his finger upwards as she pressed hers there.

“And down we go!” he huffed as they fell back down on the bed, her laughter filling the entire room.

This time you couldn’t contain your laughter and as that you made your presence known. You walked inside your bedroom to be greeted with huge smiles from both Dean and the little girl.

“You two seem to be having real fun huh?” you smirked and he chuckled, rubbing the back of his neck a little nervously.

“We’ve made a mess haven’t we?” he asked looking around him and mostly the bed but you shook your head.

“No it’s ok.”

“Mommy!” Mary exclaimed as she jumped off the bed and ran towards you “Dean and I were playing a new game!” she said looking up at you with big (y/e/c) eyes.

“Hmh I saw that honey. WWE games.” you said, giving a look at Dean whose eyes widened.

“How’d you know?” he breathed out, guilty face on as if he’d been caught on act.

“I’m not just a pretty face you know.” you chuckled before bending down to pick up your three-year-old girl.

“Mommy can Dean stay with us tonight please?” she asked with an innocent smile and you glanced at Dean to see he too was waiting like a little child with big green eyes for an answer.

“I don’t know sweetheart. He’s a busy man, wouldn’t want to keep him here and busy with boring girly stuff when there might something or someone waiting for him tonight.” you said almost slyly, glancing at Dean from the corner of your eye.

“No!” Mary said with a deep frown and an adorable pout “Dean wants to stay with us, don’t you Dean?” she asked looking back at the man that you knew she had developed a soft spot for. He wasn’t her father no, her real father had died before he had the chance to meet his little girl, but you were glad your little girl didn’t feel the absence thanks to the older Winchester.

“Absolutely lovebug!” he grinned walking towards the two of you “There is no other place on Earth I would rather be than with the two of you. Plus-” he looked at you with a small, you could say almost satisfied, smirk on his face “There isn’t someone waiting for me tonight, apart from Baby to tak her on a long ride.”

“Huh is that so?” you raised an eyebrow, trying not to show how interested you really were so you prefered to play Mary’s hair, tucking a few strands behind her ear “How come? Considering who you are I’d expect the ladies to be fighting for a few hours in your agenda.” you mumbled and he shrugged.

“There is no lady I’d be more interested in spending my time with than my little princess.” he smiled softly down at Mary who giggled when he kissed her cheek. Despite everything, and despite the small pang of jealousy, you couldn’t help but smile at how much of a father figure – a great and loving one at that – Dean was being for Mary.

“So mommy, can Dean sleep with us tonight? Pretty please?” she batted her eyelashes at you and you glanced at Dean who had a hopeful look on as well.

“Well if he wants to-” you started and he spoke up immediately.

“Absolutely!”

“I’m warning you though, there will be plenty of Tangled and sparkles and glitter because we’re going tobe making a cake.” you pointed out and he grinned.

“Sounds amazing to me” he breathed out sincerely and you couldn’t fight off the smile.

“Come on mommy, please let him stay! Pretty please!” she wrapped her small arms around your neck, giving you that adorable smile you just couldn’t resist.

“Very well then, he can stay.” you shrugged, trying to not let your own excitement show. Your daughter was enough excited for the both of you as her and Dean cheered both smiling like kids on Christmas day.

“Ok now, go wash your hands sweetie-” you set her down “We’ve gotta get started on that cake, yeah?”

“Alright!” she nodded her head “Dean will you help us?”

“Absolutely pumpkin!” he booped her nose and kissed her forehead as with a giggle she ran out of your bedroom towards the bathroom to wash her hands.

“She’s developed a soft spot for you, you know.” you mumbled with a soft smile as you fixed the bedsheets.

Only her though?” he asked with a cute grin and you shook your head with a laugh.

“Shut up idiot.” you threw a pillow at him “I’m being serious you know.”

“Yeah-” he softened “I know” he hummed with a fond smile that made your own heart swell inside your chest “I really love her too.”

“You know, maybe it’s because you spend a lot of time together- which: thank you very much for. I don’t know what I’d do without you.” you looked at him sincerely and he shook his head, helping you by picking up her toys.

“You know you don’t have to. I love being with her, and if it takes one more worry away while you are working then it’s my pleasure. Both mine and Sam’s.”

“I know” you held his gaze for a good few moments “I just- I’m saying this because- no matter how much time one can spend with her it doesn’t mean they’ll have her trust. She’s not an easy child, not really open. But with you-” you shook your head with a laugh “If I didn’t know any better I’d say you are her father.”

Dean chuckled softly, his eyes lingering on her toys that he had in his arms “It would be my honor.” he whispered and your eyes locked on him.

“What?”

“To be her father.” he looked into your eyes “It would be a honor for me. She is an amazing kid, I would love nothing more than to call her my daughter.”

“As I would love nothing more than to call you her father.” you whispered the small confession and he gave you a boyish grin.

“You know-” his smile turned into a flirty smirk that just made you weak on the knees every time “-that would mean I’d have to be something more to you too, right?”

“Yeah, the only drawback right?” you chuckled and he shook his head.

“Are you kidding me? I’d be bragging to everyone if the mother of my child was such a bomb!” he grinned widely and you bit your lip, chuckling.

“Yeah right.” you scoffed and he gave you a look.

“Don’t make me fight you on this, (Y/n). You know I’d definitely win this. I have my ways.”

“Which include?” you raised an eyebrow suggestively and you saw his eyes darken for a minute.

“Oh you’d like to know sweetheart?”

“Perhaps?” you shrugged innocently and he laughed.

“I’d love to do so too but- not with a kid walking around. Maybe when she’s asleep, I’d love to show you.” he winked and you chuckled.

“You’re such a flirt.” you shook your head, jumping when you felt his hand on your back; not having realized when he came close to you.

“Oh princess, I’m not flirting.” his face got closer to yours “I’m giving you a promise.”
