Models Own are renown for their super cute nail polish stands, inhabited by an array colours that would put the biggest double rainbow to shame! But the company is rapidly becoming known for much more than nail polish… Models Own have recently expanded and opened their first flagship store in Westfield Shopping Centre (Stratford, London) and filled it with a whole host of makeup products in a variety of stunning collections!! This week I received some of their latest products and they are simply amazing!
I have two lipsticks in a Matte finish (pictured left) and two in the Velvet finish (pictured right). Here are the swatches in both natural daylight and under mobile flash. You can see that the product stay true to the shade of the lipstick bullet even under the flash. Their staying power is fantastic and I had to use an oil-based remover to get them off my arm.
Each Luxestick Lipstick retails at £7.99, but Models Own have an offer online and in-store during February where you can get a free Luxestick lipstick when you spend £10 or more. You just need to add the code LUXE10 at the checkout.
Next up are Models Owns ‘Colour Chrome Eyeshadow Kits’. When I popped in store a couple of weeks back the girls swatched these for me and I was absolutely blown away by the pigment pay-off! Much like the lipstick, I had to remove the swatches with an oil-based remover as they would not budge!
The kit comes with a little mixing tray, a primer liquid and the metallic eyeshadow. Again, 10 shades are available in this collection and I have 3 of them to show you. The consistency is very creamy and it glides on with ease using your finger or a brush. It’s a thick medium and a little goes a long, so you can use the primer to dilute the cream but I feel the thickness adds to the intense metallic pay-off.
I have swatched the eyeshadow straight from the pot on the left, and on the right I have mixed the eyeshadow with a tiny amount of the primer. If you use too much you get more of a wishy-washy pay-off so bare that in mind. Personally, I don’t really see the point of the primer. There wasn’t any obviously contrast with and without the primer (unless you use too much) and it lasted just the same without. I think it’s phenomenal all on it’s own! I will definitely be stocking more of these in my kit.
Each Colour Chrome Kit retails at £14.99
The last three swatches I have to show you are from the MyShadow Cream Eyeshadow Collection. Once more there are 10 beautiful shades available in this range. Just to clarify incase you thought I had swatched the same shade twice, I happened to chose 2 almost identical eyeshadows from this assembly. I’m quite surprised by how similar they are, in my opinion I think one should have been a bit deeper or brighter in tone to differentiate the two.
The MyShadow Cream Eyeshadows are less shiny than the Colour Chrome pots, but still have a gorgeous shimmery glow. The consistency is creamy with a smooth finish compare to the thick finish of the Chrome pots, and would go on the eyes best with your finger rather than using a brush.
Each pot retails at £6.99
Overall, I am a massive fan of these products and I am excited by what Models Own have produced for us thus far! They have hit the floor running and I look forward to seeing AND trying more from them throughout 2017!
Let me know if you have tried any of the Models Own makeup and what you think?
Bae was recovering from his wounds but made it to the library dumping his tatty pre-Belle threads and instead busted through the door in a smart casual ensemble.
Also, that luxurious striped robe when he’s getting ready for the ball? !!!!
Then his actual formal wear?!
Not to mention his glam game as pre-and-post-Prince Adam?!
He might have been cursed but clearly style is eternal.
history meme(french edition) → free choice: relationships (4/?) Antoinette de Bourbon & Anna d’Este
The specificity of the relationship
between Antoinette and Anna lies in the fact that the two women became the
pillars of the Guise family, more than the Guise men themselves, and managed to
find comfort and support in each other. The bond between mother-in-law and
daughter-in-law survived the darkest hour of the 16th century, and was so
strong that Anna attempted to recreate it with her own daughter-in-law, though
without much success. Born in a turbulent family, daughter of an outspoken and
daring mother who never feared to speak up at any cost, Anna suddenly enjoyed
the strong mind and sang-froid of the Guise mother, two qualities
that would prove to be not only useful, but determinant in her life.
I’m still crying about how Stevie chose to sing Two Ghosts with Harry in particular and he actually let her even though this is a song that he says he wants to protect because it’s very close to his heart.
Some more photos from Ami, including another photo with Shizune from the previous day~
Ami writes that Shizune is very much like an angel. Whenever she hits a wall or is feeling anxious, talking to Shizune helps calm her down and makes her feel better. For Sadamomo she writes that even though she’s only one year older than Ami, she’s got that mature, adult charm that Ami so desperately wants. Ami feels like she can depend on her, and on top of being pretty and cute, she’s also very cool, and Ami really looks up to her.
This week I was fortunate enough to receive the brand new simplehuman Wide View Sensor Mirror. I had seen a link to this being shared around on Facebook and it instantly piqued my interest! Being a makeup artist, one of my pet hates is poor lighting when it comes to makeup application - particularly at night. So when I read the features of this mirror, I knew I just HAD to review it!!!
I nearly snapped off the delivery mans arms when I hastily snatched this beauty from him a few days ago. In fact, I often find myself stood at the door mumbling briefly about the product to warrant my erratic excitement when he knocks - I’m sure he’s used to me by now. I hope!
Anyway, let me give you a little overview as to why this mirror is magic: As you can see from the images above, it has 3 wide view panels that are adjustable so you can view it flat or curved. This means you are able to see yourself panoramically from any angle! So when it comes to checking if my contouring is completely blended I need no longer crane my neck to see the sides of my face, I can now see both sides with ease. The mirror also tilts back and forth so you can adjust it for a more comfortable view. In between the three panels are 2 strips of light, known as the tru-lux light system. What makes this light-up mirror different from many others is that it simulates natural sunlight so you can get a true view of your makeup as if you were outside. More on this in a moment!
Another key feature of the wide view mirror is that it has a built-in sensor. So as your face approaches the mirror the tru-lux light system automatically illuminates without the need to turn it on. Only once you move away does it turn itself off again. It’s a rechargeable device which gives you 3 weeks battery life. And this also means it’s cordless once charged, so yes, you can easily move it from room to room.
There is more to the tru-lux lighting system that just a sensor and the ability to check your makeup in natural sunlight… It’s the first of it’s kind to be app-enabled! As soon as it arrived I downloaded the free simplehuman app and wirelessly I was able to control my mirror! I think Tommy had more fun than I did, you know men love a gadget! You can adjust not only the lighting, but the sensor timings AND set alarms - incase you get swept away in the moment and don’t realise it’s time to leave for work. To alert you the light starts to flash. Cool eh?
This next part is what REALLY made me long for this mirror… You can capture the ambient light from different locations using images from your PHONE. Yes. You simply choose your desired photo - it could be your office, or your favourite restaurant even, and the mirror will mimic the colour temperature and intensity so you can check your makeup in the lighting of the venue before you even leave the house! Gobsmacked….? Tell me about it.
I will be consciously snapping photos of my favourite places just so I can see my makeup in those lightings - just incase. The app is so simple to use. I put in my WiFi code upon request, enabled bluetooth on my phone, it then searched for my mirror and we were connected.
Here is a little snap shot of some foundation swatches in a typical lighting situation vs in front of the tru-lux light system:
You can see the colours of the foundation in much more clarity.
This is what the app looks like upon opening. You can see the name of the mirror, the battery life, and options to click on to access light modes, alarms, and sensor settings.
Here is the light modes page within the app. It contains some pre-set light modes: ‘natural light’ ‘candle light’, ‘restaurant’ and ‘cloudy day’. The first 5 symbols are pre-sets, and then you have the ‘plus’ button to add your own custom light settings. Below, you can manually adjust the brightness OR you can press auto brightness.
The mirror itself is quite weighty and extremely sturdy, you can trust that it will not fall over and break. Although it’s a little weighty it’s still portable. You can see from the images above that it’s super slimline and fits beautifully on a dressing table, or even in the bathroom.
It’s ideal for me as I often teach 1-2-1 classes downstairs, and I have a filming room upstairs, so I can easily cart it back and forth.
Here is a little mobile snap of me and my magic mirror:
The mirror retail prices are as follows:
£299.99 here in the UK
$400.00 in the US
€399.99 in the EU
It’s currently available on the UK & US sites, and will be available on the German & French websites by the end of the week!

"I tend to throw loads of stuff in a bag, then lose it because the kids’ stuff takes precedence. I spent our last holiday wearing the same pair of shorts all week, and I quite liked that. Holidays for me are about dropping anchor somewhere completely new and not being on show.“
what do you think happened when alec stayed at magnus' loft to 'help treat luke's wounds'? what did they talk about all night?
Oh man, if I could demand one thing from the sh creators, it would be to go back and give us this scene. I’m still devastated that they had Alec spend an entire goddamn night at Magnus’s apartment and not give us a single damn detail about it. Because that’s such an important night for them??? Yes, they had done a tiny bit of (very one-sided) flirting, and Alec had vaguely accepted a non-specific version of the date Magnus offered on the phone in the previous ep, but that’s it. That’s really not much. This was their first big scene. Just the two of them, for an entire night, with no implied physical intimacy whatsoever (since they definitely would have told us about that). Just two men who barely know each other, having a couple of drinks.
It’s so unbelievably important in the grand scheme of their story. Because at some point, Magnus Bane goes from ‘this boy’s cute maybe I can make out with him at some point’ to Ghost!Ragnor telling him to crash the wedding because it’s a chance for Magnus to finally feel love again. At some point, Magnus feels enough of a connection with Alec to consider really giving him a chance, after a century alone, and after all of the emotional trauma he went through with Camille. There’s something about Alec that makes Magnus feel safe, and hopeful, and finally ready to try falling in love again. And that very well could have been something that he saw in Alec for the first time that night. It’s the first time they really get to talk to each other. It’s when Magnus really figures out who Alec is as a person.
And for Alec, I mean… think about his social track record at that point. From what we can tell, his only close friends are his siblings. He doesn’t have any outside acquaintances that he feels comfortable sitting down with and talking to for an extended period of time. For all we know, that night at Magnus’s is one of the first times he has any sort of extended conversation with a relative stranger. And while I’m sure that’s fairly terrifying for someone with his anxiety levels (and tendency to stutter around cute guys), I imagine that must also be so freeing for him. Magnus has been flirting with him literally since the moment they met, and Alec knows that. There’s an awareness between the two of them that they’re interested in each other. I think it might be the first time in Alec’s life that he’s been with someone and felt that he’s allowed to be openly interested in men around them. Regardless of the fact that he happens to be interested in this particular man, that’s still huge for him. Magnus has absolutely no expectations for him. Alec has no reputation to uphold while he’s there. Alec is allowed to blatantly be himself and not worry about the repercussions for once in his life, and I can’t even imagine how wonderful that must have felt.
Honestly, I’m not sure of what they talked about. Probably nothing important. Just usual, everyday conversation between two people who are starting to like each other, and want to know each other better. I don’t think the subject matter was particularly extraordinary. But in some sense, I think that’s what makes it so important for both of them.
