beat the winter blues

beat the winter blues!

winter can be seen as an enemy for anyone, for several reasons. depression tends to be at it’s highest at this time of year, the cold air and strong winds dry your skin/nails/hair/lips out, and you just can’t get away with a short skirt and bare legs the way you can during spring. here’s a few ways I beat the winter blues ;

  • Hydration.

I make sure to drink at least two bottles of water each day, to help flush out my body and keep my body hydrated. Water helps flush toxins out of your body, it helps you achieve a clear complexion and you never really know if you’re dehydrated until you’re at the point where you can’t even see straight because of how dizzy you are. It’s the easiest thing to overlook, but don’t put yourself in that sort of situation like I’ve found myself doing. DRINK UP!

  • Bake.

Try out a new recipe you found online or in a cooking book! Experiment with different extracts {peppermint, almond, vanilla} and different oils {coconut oil is my favorite, and has so many other beauty related uses too!}. Whether it be a new caramel fudge brownie recipe or a cinnamon spice cake, now is the time to try it out!

  • Moisturize.

We often forget to moisturize during the winter months, mainly because we only associate a loss of body moisture with the heat. You need to moisturize your body and face during the winter just the same as you do in the summer, but use thicker and creamier formulas during the colder months. For example, during summer I may use Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel, but in the winter I’ll use Ponds Original Moisturizing Cream to really help my skin face the frigid temperatures.

  • Get hooked on a new show.

In my opinion, the best time to get into a new TV show is the winter. You don’t want to go outside in the freezing cold, so you can just curl up on the couch and watch the seasons you missed instead of the summer, when you’d rather be at the beach with your friends than watching some show alone.

  • DIY.

Start some DIY projects! Whether you invite some friends over and do group DIY projects or by yourself, it’s a fun way to let time fly by and not have to venture out in the cold. You can start making some Valentines Day decorations too, or just some things to spice up your room a bit!

  • Makeup.

I’ll spend a day in my room with a hand mirror and some new makeup products, experimenting with them and playing around with them. I don’t like to just buy a new product and wear it for the first time to school or to work, because I won’t know how it works ahead of time and if I should be touching it up throughout the day if it runs, etc.

how to beat the winter blues or the .... whatever: treat yo’self edition

just making a little master post because i know how easy it is to get into this kind of rut in the winter. and i know how easy it is to feel depressed and blue and all of that, so i wanted to share my personal tips for feeling better. if you had a bad day, i highly recommend all of this.

  • step one: run a hot bubble bath. like, scalding water. put candles all along your tub. drop in some lush products. don’t know what lush is? google it, my lovely followers. order yourself some bath bombs and bubble bars and lotions and face masks. got any christmas candy? bring it to the tub with you. like to read books? bring a new one to the tub with you.

seriously. you will not regret it.

  • okay so after a nice long soak, now that you’re all perfumed and lotioned and oily and clean, get out of the tub. you can’t live in the bathtub. i tried, it doesn’t work, eventually u gotta charge ur phone. etc.
  • step two: make yourself a drink. and a snack. (if you’re of age/i don’t care if youre of age/do what you want) put lots of ice in it so its really cold and have it in your favorite glass. and drink it with a straw, because that makes it more fun. add little fruit garnishes and shit. or little sprinkles around the rim, or salt or sugar. or vegetables, if youre into savory drinks. TREAT YOSELF. have fun with it. it doesn’t have to have alcohol, just make yourself a really tasty drink ok?? hot cocoa, expresso, tea with honey and lemon. whatever makes you smile. whatever floats your boat baby.

  • step three: the snack. it can be a healthy snack if you’re into that or it can be some comfort food. shit, it doesn’t even have to be a snack! order takeout if you like. this is all about treating yourself, so make yourself something really delicious that you know will make you happy. like I’m having roasted almonds because that’s what i feel like tonight. the really good kind with salt and garlic. fucking delicious. i might have some cheese with the almonds. because cheese is also fucking delicious.

  • it’s like PLL, but better.
  • hot guys. hot girls. great plots. lots of drama. a little sex. anD THE FASHION DEAR GOD. and lovable characters.
  • blair waldorf for example. she is everything.

Australia Day is here, at last! The food is out, there is pretty much every kind of alcohol you could wish for in the kitchen, and I promise that I left all of the scary, huge spiders back in Australia. But if you’ve got a few free hours this evening, hope you can stop by! If for no other reason, than to hang out and beat the winter blues for one night, yeah? And if anyone needs anything, don’t hesitate to ask!

10 Tips For Bisexuals To Beat The Winter Blues
Four years ago, in late November, I tumbled into the worst depression of my life. It took me a long, long time to climb out of that black hole -- but I did. However, every winter since then has been a struggle to keep myself from slipping back down again. I know that especially in the bisexual community, I'm not the only one.

Winter blues are real. Kevin Hogan, BRC Board Member, offers tips for bi folks to fight them off through the cold season.

Navy Blue.

Bold colours ruled the runway this season, with deep navy blue being the hue of choice for designer collections this fall.
The bright colour adds a bold statement to winter dressing, lightening up a usually dull colour palette to beat the winter blues this season.

I want to take a break from reviewing, promoting, and otherwise talking about literature to share this article with all of you. I’m someone who struggles with depression, among other things, especially during this time of year. I know there are many of us who feel lower this time of year as well. I know there are no easy “fixes,” but I just want to say, you aren’t alone and I care about each and every one of you and wish you all the very best.

The Invisible

George finally discovers the secret to invisibility, allowing him to go anywhere and steal anything he likes. However, he sadly did not realize that complete invisibility would also mean that photons would not strike his retinas, leaving him not only invisible, but also blind. “Well, huh,” the disembodied Voice of George clucks, “At least I’m not just a floatin’ pair of eyes!” Elaine beats the winter blues by creating an indoor beach at her apartment, but is disgusted to learn that the discount sand she purchased is actually “slightly used” cat litter. Now that Jerry finally knows how many licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop, he can never un-know. The community is scandalized when they learn that Kramer has ground up the corpses of his victims, but for some reason, they’re more offended when they learn that he has not put an ounce of human flesh in his meat pies.
