Okay but, like, the thing about Pythacarus is that my first reaction was just incoherent “OH MY GOD OHM Y GDO“, and then I sat back and thought about it, and my reaction was still pretty much the same and that is such a good thing because I just love the way the show dealt with their relationship.
Hercules clearly knew. He knew even before the actual kiss, and he didn’t shy away from annoying Pythagoras and at the same time worrying about him in the same way he would with Jason about Ariadne. He joked about it when he found them kissing, with his pointed troath clearing and his “If you’ve quite finished, we have to flee the city” comment. That’s just so typically Hercules.
Nearly the same goes for Deadalus, Icarus’s father. He was in the room during Pythagoras and Icarus’s big candle ligt fight scene (and oh my god I had not expected from the trailer it would be in that context but is was good) and his only reaction was to take his son in his arms and feel sorry for him because things weren’t working out, even after everything that had just happened between them and the things he’d said earlier. I saw that going a completely different way, but I am so incredibly glad it didn’t.
And that’s just the thing, that thing that makes me misspell three simple words: Pythagoras and Icarus seeing each other as more than friends made none of the other characters pause or even look twice. It simply wasn’t a big deal. And that’s a Big Deal for a show like Atlantis.
(Also, Icarus didn’t die, so thankfully no Predictable Sad Gay Storyline for Pythagoras. Quite the opposite, Icarus got a chance to make up for his mistakes! THANK YOU.)
Do they have schools in Atlantis, because I can see Icarus and Pythagoras meeting the first day when Pythagoras outsmarts their teacher in everything and asks endless questions and Icarus just walks up to him after school like “I think my dad would like you” and then he drags Pythagoras to his house and is like “Dad, look what I found, he’s real smart!” And Daedalus is a bit skeptical but after he talks to Pythagoras for a moment he realizes Icarus is right and then he’s just like “Ok, you are a part of family now.”
