So you got me hooked on StephCass. And now my story has StephCass as a couple. And I was wondering if you could please give me some tips on writing StephCass, both as friends and as a couple. Or link me to some good comics of them together. Please and thnak you. No pressure. I'm just super excited to have all these galpal couples in my story. :D

YAYYYYYYYY!!!  There are not enough stories w/ StephCass and this makes me so happy!!

General overview of StephCass as a relationship:

  • Steph looks up to Cass and sees the world in her. She puts all of her trust in her, and views her as her best friend. She looks to Cass for support, understanding, and unconditional love for who she is as a person. Cass is loving, kind and a great listener, while also being able to kick ass & take names. To her, Cass is both an amazing ideal to strive for and a honest, down-to-earth person she can laugh and dick around with.
  • Cass trusts Steph and sees her determination and perseverance as something to be admired. She doesn’t baby Steph or look down on her (a first for the batfam tbh), and she loves her for her candor and upbeat personality. Frequently, she looks to Steph to lighten a day or laugh about something painful (like being in the bad-dads club). Most often, though, its Steph who shows up at her door, and she let’s her in, knowing they will be most likely laughing or sparring until they can’t breath by the end of the night. Cass WILL put Steph’s safety before her pride, however, and if she thinks Steph can’t do something, she will  bench her (often by knocking her out– because lets be honest that’s the only way you can get rid of a determined Steph).
  • Common activities in comics: Sparring, rooftop tag, heart-to-heart talks, reading lessons (Steph teaching Cass), detectivin’, laughing and being adorable af

Things to avoid:

  • Cass being overshadowed by Steph; making Cass cold or emotionless (she’s frequently VERY emotional, and she has the most empathy out of any bat); Cass being cruel or talking down to Steph; any variation of “Asian-Best-Friend” syndrome
  • Steph being the comedic side character; Steph being completely terrible at vigilante-ing (she can hold her own against Cass for at least a little while); turning Steph into a string of quirky lines with no depth

Recs- Any instance where Steph shows up in Batgirl v1:

HAVE FUN!!!!

This is the highest voted “Favorites” post. I did Favorites for some Batgirl issues because while there were some really good isolated images of Cassie, there weren’t good multi-panel runs that would work well on Tumblr.

The top 4 images are great Damion Scott works. Her emotions really comes across: worried, guilty, serious, and melancholy. This is why I think it was so highly voted: her emotions are right there. And with little or no dialog. It’s the sign of a great artist and writer when they can do this.

(bonus) Wow from Batgirl v1-31 2002-10
This is an amazing combat sequence with Cass and Connor Hawke who’s a top archer and great martial artist. They’re facing off against some very good archers and Connor wants her to let him pick off some of the baddies. He doesn’t think she can deal with more than one archer. He could not be more wrong!

Cass proceeds to put on a clinic at defeating incoming arrows. I imagine the archers were both intimidated and depressed as Cass seemed to try to think up every way possible to block their arrows.
* She chops an arrow with a Batarang
* Then 2 arrows are blocked and broken by hand
* On to using her legs to block more arrows
* Time for a swoosh of her cape for more blocking
* And finally, time to catch an arrow right in front of her face
By then, Cassie has closed with the archers and is plowing through them as Connor just says Wow.

Cassandra is definitely wow.
