Brooklyn band She Keeps Bees does bewitching, gloomy, blues tinged and baroque imbued rock music so well. Their latest single Owl, off excellent current album Eight Houses, is a delightful, dusky treat with backing vocals by the amazing Sharon Van Etten. It’s as if Lana Del Rey, Shara Worden of My Brightest Diamond, and Anna Calvi met in a crossroad and jammed together. She Keeps Bees is currently touring in Europe, and they’ve released an odd but captivating video for the song.
Listening to some new music on Under the Radar’s free audio sampler today. This was one of the better bands I hadn’t heard of before. Beautiful mix of indie songstress vocal kind of style, with orchestral/choir baroque arrangements.
