Caught my Wamena Scrub girl out basking this afternoon.
Wamena scrub pythons are a locality of the Central Highlands race of New Guinea scrubs, Simalia amethistina. The second locality is the Oksibils, both of which have evolved isolated from the northern, or “barneck” scrubs and the southern race.
There are also the Halmahera, Moluccan, Tanimbar, and Queensland scrubs. These days, most races and/or localities can be found in multiple color morphs, such as patternless and axanthic.
