السلام عليكم و رحمة الله و بركة
Brothers and Sisters I am sure majority of you have by now heard of the terrible catastrophic incident that has befallen the community and residents of the 24-story block of flats (Grenfell Tower) in West London. In short: a fire started on it’s 4th floor (approx: according to many witnesses) at around 12:45-01:00am this early morning and RAPIDLY spread to effect every floor from the 2nd upwards. The fire- which has been declared a major incident by the chief fire commissioner of London has claimed the lives and properties of a huge number of the residents.
There have been many fatalities and witnesses have reported seeing many jumping to their death from floors as high as the 16th onwards after screaming for help, and, according to a witness even screaming for Allah and uttering the shahahdah. This is an extremely distressing reality and there were hundreds of residents living in that building. The numbers of deaths, injuries etc have not been confirmed but indeed when it comes out we know it will be too high (even one death is too high). Amongst the victims are children, babies, elderly etc… again an extremely distressing event.
How one can eat and sleep in comfort knowing this is going on whilst this was occurring is totally beyond my understanding. There are many of our brothers and sisters who have lost their lives, family and/or all of their homes. I myself was awake at around 03:00 and when I received a message regarding this was not able to sleep after the salah. Me and a brother instantly left to Ladbroke Grove area by car with intentions to offer any assistance we could. However due to the amount of emergency vehicles present at the scene and the blockade by the police it was not possible to get further in than the surrounding roads about 10mins walk from the building. In addition it was probably not safe hence why it was blocked.
We gathered at the scene that the injured who made it out alive were taken straight to hospital and that the ones who were not were taken to nearby refuge centres. All-in-all it was a shame but it was too early for people like us to step in and offer help as access was limited. As the day has now progressed, the sad reality of the event continues to unfold and there are people in need.
Please as part of the ummah do your duty and try to help and assist your displaced brothers and sisters as much as possible. If you come to know of anyone who needs financial, physical, emotional assistance, do your best to provide what you can. Tonight will be the 20th night of Ramadan and hence there is plenty of reward and pleasure from Allah for your assistance. On the other hand I am sure we will be called to account if we are to just ignore it and not do anything to assist our community.
Please do forward this message and alert all that you know who can help….in addition there are volunteers willing to assist with transportation, proving food/drink or even just emotional support to displaced families. Nothing is belittled. For more queries on transportation and assistance for displaced families or if you know any who needs assistance please contact or forward the following numbers:

Allaah, the Most Perfect and the Most High, said,
“And give glad tidings to the patient – those who, when afflicted with a calamity, say ‘Indeed to Allaah we belong and to Him we shall return.’ It is those who will be rewarded with blessings and mercy from their Lord. And it is those who are the guided ones.”
Allaah’s Messenger (salallaahu ‘alayhi wassallam) said: “To Allaah belongs what He took, and to Him belongs what He gave. Everything is recorded with him for an appointed term..” (Ahkaamul-Janaa’iz of Al-Albaanee).
“Death from burning is a Shahaadah (martyrdom)…”
