bands you should like

Weird bands you should check out

Idk I felt like making a list:

Glass Animals - literally sounds like a liquid in my ears

Mother Mother - relatable and uses really nice flats and sharps in their singing

Tally Hall - gets that ol’ brain going. almost every song is in a different style

Rob Cantor - made the Shia Lebuff song and used to be the yellow tie from Tally Hall

Andrew Jackson Jihad - real nasty slice o’ life but good

Cosmo Sheldrake - like old folksyish but with minimal instruments and words and nice beats

Lulu Mae - not so much weird as really sweet. I knew these people irl and they’re really close in my heart

Radical Face - soft and thought provoking

Loch Lomond - indecipherable lyrics but strangely addicting. you literally can’t find set lyrics to “the mountain” anywhere online

I probably forgot one or two

Day6 I Loved You MV Teaser

my biggest pet peeve ever is when you express a casual disliking towards something benign like a band, celebrity, or TV show, and a bunch of people hop in and hound on you as if you’ve besmirched the name of god himself

vimeo

I’m gonna throw this here because I’m actually pretty proud of it, but here’s the video I made for my final project in my digital media class! Though making it took longer than I thought it would, overall it was a fun experience and very good practice. Enjoy!

Thinking about starting a trimberly/power rangers band au tomorrow? But only if people would read it? Should I?
If yes send me your headcanons 😍 really wanna write something angsty/fluffy about these kids I love them

Everyones been trying to set us up for months but they don't know that we're already together with Mingyu

I had slight trouble deciding what would be the best way to do this, but I hope you like how I went about it~ Thanks for the request :3 ♥

You sat down on the café couch with Seungcheol and Mingyu, all of you holding cups of whatever you had ordered. You were going to see a movie afterwards, but with a lot of spare time, going to the café near the theater had sounded like a perfect idea.

“I really hope the movie’ll be good,” you said with a quiet sigh, not really expecting much from one that wasn’t exactly your favorite genre, and the boys grinned.

“No need to worry, it’s gotten pretty good reviews,” Seungcheol said with a laugh, bringing his cup to his lips as he took a sip of his tea. Mingyu nodded in agreement, already excited to see the movie, but you merely squinted your eyes a little, trying not to show just how much Mingyu’s outfit choice was affecting you. Between you and him it was no secret that you had a tiny weak spot for him in black jeans and any v-neck, but he had also added a cozy cardigan to that - you just couldn’t win with him.

“But was any of those reviews written by someone who doesn’t particularly like the genre…” you muttered, sipping on your own drink, and both Mingyu and Seungcheol shrugged; none of the reviews had particularly stated that.

As the three of you continued chatting and drinking, Seungcheol suddenly checked his phone and let out a gasp that sounded too dramatic to be real.

“Oh, no! I really need to go,” Seungcheol exclaimed, already grabbing his backpack. You and Mingyu both frowned.

“Did something come up?” you asked, slightly concerned, even, and got a hasty nod from the male.

“Yeah, I, uh, gotta go walk my fish,” Seungcheol said, sounding a lot more nervous than you expected him to, and stood up. You and Mingyu stared at him incredulously, your mouths open in confusion while the older male already took a few steps away fromt he couch. “I’m so sorry Y/N and Mingyu, but you two enjoy the movie, I’m sure it’s great! See you later!”

Before either of you had been able to say anything, the supposedly eldest member of Seventeen had dashed out of the café and left behind you and Mingyu, looking at each other at the weirdness of what had just happened.

Mingyu leaned closer to you, whispering to your ear. “He doesn’t have a fish.”

Probably more stunned at Mingyu’s obliviousness than the awful excuse Seungcheol had given to his leaving, you licked your lips and turned to look at your boyfriend, unimpressed. “Honey… you can’t walk a fish.”

“…Right,” Mingyu replied, thinking about it for a while and looking like he actually had a light bulb lighting up above his head when he put the pieces together. “Oh my God, do you think he came up with an excuse just to leave us alone?!”

You nodded slowly, smiling widely when Mingyu had finally caught up to it. He cleared his throat a little and scooted closer to you on the couch.

“Well, if he wants us to be alone, I’ve got no complaints,” he said quietly, grinning as he leaned down to kiss your forehead. You giggled and looked up at him warmly.

“Me neither.”

Unknown to Seungcheol or anyone else, of course, you and Mingyu had been going out for some months already and would go on dates every now and then without someone having to bail on you all of a sudden.

Once Mingyu had walked you home after the movie, you wrapped your arms around his neck and tip-toed to kiss him with his hands on your waist.

“Are you sure you don’t want to come inside?” you asked against his lips in a quiet mumble, and he gave you a slow nod, his eyes hooded as he looked into yours.

“If I did, I wouldn’t be able to leave,” he said equally quietly, swallowing hard at the mere thought of what coming in would mean. You grinned, feeling your cheeks heat up a little, and nodded.

“True. Maybe some other time,” you whispered, giving him a few more sweet kisses before pulling away. Mingyu smiled at you when you looked back at him while opening the door, and you got a quick kiss on your forehead before he bid goodbye.

A week or so later, your suspicions towards the way the other members of Seventeen were only further heightened. If they spoke to you about Mingyu a lot more than usual already, it only got weirder when you and Vernon were talking about movies and you happened to mention one that you really liked.

“Oh, really? Mingyu likes that one, too!” he had exclaimed immediately, suddenly very excited, which took you aback to say the least. While you knew that very well; it had been what had first gotten you and Mingyu to talk to each other more; you couldn’t quite wrap your head around why Vernon seemed so… invested in it. “You and Mingyu have quite a bit in common, actually! Have you noticed that before?”

You giggled and shrugged, starting to tell him half of the truth. “I mean, we’ve talked about some of those things, like movies and bands we like.”

Vernon nodded with exaggerated eagerness. “You two should definitely talk more, then.”

It was then that you realized that perhaps, in a very weird way, the other members were starting to try to get you and Mingyu together - without realizing that you already were. That night, while talking with Mingyu on the phone, you told him about your suspicions and smiled to yourself when you heard him giggle on the other end.

”But that’s so weird, since we’re already together,” he said, sounding just as amused and incredulous as you were, and you agreed.

“It really is. But it’s also kind of entertaining, you know,” you said with a giggle, biting your lip as you waited to see if Mingyu would pick up on what you were, in a way, hinting at.

“Y/N,” he said, waiting for you to let out a “Yes?” before continuing. “Wanna keep it low and just see what they do?”

At that, you grinned widely. “I’d love to.”

Some time after Vernon pointing out such similarities in what you and Mingyu liked, Wonwoo made his move, which you had been anticipating more than you’d probably admit. He started pointing out the similarities between you and Mingyu, or all the ways you two would work together even when you weren’t all that similar; opposites attract and all that.

“You like puppies and Mingyu practically is one,” Wonwoo pointed out at one point while drinking an energy drink, intently observing your reaction. You had almost choked on your tea at that - Mingyu truly was like a puppy, albeit an overgrown one, but what did that have to do with anything? Besides the fact that Wonwoo had practically brought up Mingyu in whatever conversation you had had that day, that was.

“I, uh, I know,” you managed to mutter with your cheeks heating up a little for a reason you couldn’t fathom, and Wonwoo looked satisfied, as if he had just gotten a confirmation that you liked Mingyu. Which, naturally, you did, just… a lot more than he thought.

When you told Mingyu about that, he snickered, looking at you in disbelief as he pulled you closer to him on your bed. “Really? Wonwoo said that?”

All you could do was nod while laughing heartily, hiding your face in Mingyu’s chest. “Yup, word to word.”

He shook his head, muttering “I can’t believe” while running his hand up and down your bare back. You grinned and said that you couldn’t, either, and lifted your face to catch a sweet kiss from Mingyu’s lips.

A couple of weeks passed with similar attempts to get you and Mingyu together, but none of those quite compared to what Jeonghan did one evening.

Jeonghan was snickering to himself when he came up to you when you were reading a book at the café nearby the dorm, and wasted no time in placing the question that had almost had your heart skipping a beat. “So, Y/N, what do you think of our Mingyu?”

You froze for a second and closed your book before lifting your face to Jeonghan, one eyebrow quirked. He insisted on getting an answer, ”just because he was curious”, and you did your best to give him one. “I mean… Mingyu’s really nice, I guess? He’s very funny and makes good food, that kind of a thing…”

What Jeonghan let out next was something you hadn’t quite expected - instead of giving you, say, a knowing look or “I see”, he had started flat-out advertising Mingyu. You got to hear how amazing and caring and sweet Mingyu was, all of which you already knew and loved about him, and Jeonghan went on an on about everything about Mingyu that was good and made him lovable. You listened to it all with a warm smile, your heart growing warmer with every little thing Jeonghan pointed out.

“I agree,” you said quietly when Jeonghan finally took a breath, and he raised his eyebrows before a grin spread to his lips, which definitely wasn’t a rare sight on his face. He was certain you were warming up to Mingyu; if only he had known just how much you already had.

However, out of all the members, the one that was the furthest from subtle when it came to trying to get you and Mingyu together would’ve been none other than Seungkwan. If he wasn’t pointing out to Mingyu how lovely you were, he was doing something as drastic as he did one evening when you were visiting the group at their dorm.

You were barely in the dorm when he dashed to the door and pulled you to the bedroom he shared with Seokmin and Joshua, closing the door behind you before he started ranting.

“Listen, Y/N, I’m so frustrated! Some people are just so dense and I have no idea how you can be so blind to your own feelings and–”

“Seungkwan, what’s wrong?” Unfortunately you had not realized what it was about until you asked that and he opened up.

“It’s Mingyu! He likes you so much and he doesn’t even realize! He talks about you the way you usually talk about someone you really like that way but he doesn’t do anything, and it upsets me because you two would be such a cute couple and–”

“Seungkwan,” you interrupted him while giggling, trying to make it seem more because of how awfully fast he was speaking while it was actually because Mingyu actually had done something about it, having been the one to come to you all awkwardly to tell you how much he liked you and that he was sorry if that made things weird (which it didn’t, because you were head over heels for him, too). “Are you really sure?”

Suddenly Seungkwan got all serious as he stared into your eyes intently. “You know that foolish grin he gets when he talks about like, his sister or puppy and all? He gets that on whenever someone as much as mentions your name.”

Okay, now, you might’ve felt very warm and fuzzy when he told you that, but you remained quiet as you nodded, cheeks more flushed than you thought they would be, and Seungkwan groaned dramatically.

“Oh, come on, you like him back?! Where is the problem?!”

There were countless of occasions where the members had done their best to get you two together. Sometimes it was Chan accidentally locking you in a room and “not being able to find the key”; sometimes it was Jihoon asking you to bring him something he had forgotten at the dorm, knowing that Mingyu was the only one there, and sometimes it was Jun making a lot of jokes about how you and Mingyu would be together. Some members took action, some stuck with just words, but nevertheless you got a whole lot of entertainment from it.

The fact, however, was that you and Mingyu were very much together, enjoying a relationship filled with humor, cuddles, deep conversations and quite a bit of enjoyable, heated sex, whether it was a quickie in your shower or on your living room couch, or a longer session in your bedroom or wherever.

You and Mingyu had been in the laundry room for a good while, having escaped there for some privacy while waiting for the washing machine to be ready, and your lips were locked in sloppy kisses. You were, as cliche as it was, sat down on the counter and he was standing between your legs, his hands having travelled up and down your legs multiple times as you had been making out.

With Mingyu’s hands tightening their grip on your hips, where they had been for quite some time, you teased his tongue with yours just as the laundry room door opened and Soonyoung barged in with some laundry in his arms, his eyes widening a shocking amount when he saw the two of you. Soon the shock became clear joy, though, with him practically throwing his arms in the air, the clothes flying to the floor long forgotten.

Finally you two have found each other!”

Some other members started coming in, curious by the exclamation, and Mingyu separated from you while clearing his throat, giving his bandmates an amused look as he grinned and you got down from the counter, fixing your shirt with how low Mingyu had managed to get the neckline.

“Actually, finally you guys realize,” he said with a chuckle that turned into loud laughter when the members started squinting their eyes. “Y/N and I have been dating for six months.”

“So that time I asked you how you felt about Mingyu…” Jeonghan asked from you, eyes barely visible with how much he was squinting, and you nodded with a giggle.

“Already together.”

“And that time I told you Mingyu liked you…”

“He gave me a good morning kiss that day,” you nodded at Seungkwan, and they all let out deep sighs in almost unison.

So much for nothing.

Two Of Us (6.97)
The Beatles

January 6th, 1969 (Twickenham Film Studios, London): Paul and George have a fraught and ultimately sad exchange about responsibilities, expectations, and means to ends, with John in the uncommon role as mediator trying to move the sessions along. An increasingly anxious and self-conscious Paul is aware of his own tendency to direct the rehearsals but confesses himself at a loss for any other way to keep everyone productive, in tune, and in pace with their looming deadline without encroaching on everyone else’s egos, emotions, and individual working methods. George capitulates, contends his inability to conform to their current circumstances with Paul’s inability to compromise, and wonders despondently if Paul even knows what he really wants (for this project, for the group and its individual members, or for himself). (Note: This is the third part of a series breaking down that Paul and George argument in the Let It Be film documentary. The dialogue that was eventually edited into the scene as depicted in the film is highlighted in bold. First part, second part.)

PAUL: You see, we’re really – we’re gonna have to sorta bring it together, because we’re all at odds, we’re doing that thing we did on The Beatles, we’re all playing, you know, like… [incoherent] Like in this verse, it’s two harmonies singing, trying to say some words, right. So like you know, you can just, duh duh dunch cha. And in the bits, when we need bits, we’re not—

JOHN: Yeah I know the bits. I’m just trying to sing it, and do it through.

PAUL: [plays] You know what I mean? We’ve got to get riffs, when the riff bits come up.

GEORGE: The riffs. Uh, there’s no riffs. I mean, it’s nice to get – just to get what you’re playing—

PAUL: No, but it’s just, look – you see, “you and I”, uh – on—

GEORGE: You and I, our memories

PAUL: Uh, but it’s not – it’s not together, you see, so it’s not sounding together. Even on—

GEORGE: So we can only play until we – until we can find the bit—

PAUL: Or we can stop and say it’s not together.

GEORGE: Yes, then you’ve got to carry on until we get it together. So I mean, that’s all, that’s all I can do is play—

PAUL: Okay. Well, I, you know—

GEORGE: —until it sounds as though it’s blending with the rest—

PAUL: I never know what to say to that, you know, ’cause what I want to say is now come on, and play… you know.

GEORGE: Yes, I know.

PAUL: But I can’t, you know, because we get into that line.

GEORGE: It does.

PAUL: Okay. [laughs nervously] So, here we go. [starts playing] You know, I mean, well. Tell us something about that. I can’t make it beyond that. It’s like, it’s – it’s complicated now. So. See, if we can get simpler, and then complicate it where it needs complications, but it’s complicated in the bit—

GEORGE: It’s not complicated. I’m just gonna—

PAUL: I know, but I mean – you know.

GEORGE: I mean, I’ll play just the chords, if you’ll like, and—

PAUL: [hushed] No, come on, you always get like—

GEORGE: —and then – but that’s all I’m trying to do—

PAUL: [anxious] You always get annoyed when I say that. I’m – I’m trying to help, you know, but I always hear myself annoying you, and I’m trying to—

GEORGE: No, you’re not annoying me.

PAUL: —I get so I can’t say—

GEORGE: [acquiescent] You don’t annoy me [anymore?].

PAUL: But you know what I mean. You know, well, do this, then. [plays] And then… I don’t know. [long pause] Yeah. I can’t do it on film, either. [laughs; bleak] I don’t know if I can do it on camera. [long silence; guitar playing]

The 100 Greatest Choruses of the 21st Century
Today marks the beginning of Chorus Week here at Billboard, where we'll be deep-diving into some of the greatest recent refrains that drive every great karaoke night, concert encore and office desk hum-along. We voted, we debated, and we have our answers: Billboard's list of the 100 greatest choruses of the 21st century.

27. One Direction, “What Makes You Beautiful”

When you think of what a boy band song should sound like, this is pretty much the quintessential example for the 21st century. The whole damn thing is just one hook after the next, but “Beautiful” is still most grandiose in its chorus, where all five voices come together for some swoon-worthy harmonies backed by a booming power-pop beat. And if you’re too starry-eyed to look that deep into a 1D song, the Pixy Stix-sweet lyrics (“Baby you light up my world like nobody else/ The way that you flip your hair gets me overwhelmed”) are certainly enough to make this an instant boy band classic. – T.W.

Byron Langley.

You had only met Byron three times and all three times were when he was in London visiting Josh and Caspar for a few days. The third time however, he was here longer, much longer.

You had gone around Josh and Caspar’s with Joe one day to find Byron was still sitting on their couch, the same place he had been for well over a month now.

“Are you moving in?” Joe joked as you watched Byron laugh. The corners of his mouth wrinkling up and revealing the cutest smile lines you’ve ever seen.

“Thinking about it….hey nice to see you again.” He said, flashing you a smile.

That was the third time you had met Byron, but it wasn’t the last time you saw him. Actually, you saw him nearly everyday as he had really did decided to move in, but not with Caspar and Josh. He had moved into your best friend’s spare room which was technically your room whenever you would stay around Joe’s. That didn’t stop you from staying over though. You had spent many nights on Joe’s couch, passing out after a night of fun with him and Byron. Bryon would always offer you the bed seeing it was basically yours to begin with but you denied, telling him that it was now his bedroom and that you were fine with taking the couch.

As the months went on with Byron staying with Joe, the tension between you two increased. In the first couple of times you two met, you both were shy. The flirting between the two of you was minimal but it was still there. A few months ago when Joe had joked about him moving in, the smile Byron flashed you was different from the others.

Usually Byron’s smile was laced with sadness as he was only in London for a few days and it would be months, maybe even years, before he ever saw you again. But the smile he gave you that day wasn’t laced with sadness, it was laced with something else that you couldn’t quite figure out.

Even though you couldn’t figure it out, Joe could. You and Joe had been friends ever since you could remember and he could tell that there was something between you and Byron even if you didn’t know it yourself. You were pretty sure that Joe had mentioned something to Byron by the way that he awkwardly moved around his house when you and Byron happened to be in the same room together.

>>>

You were standing in the kitchen, your eyes focused on the work that was displayed on the screen while Joe and Byron filmed a video. You sang along quietly to the music that played through your speakers so you weren’t paying any attention to the boy who had emerged from bedroom.

“Hey.” You jumped at the sound of the sudden voice behind you, “Sorry.”

“It’s fine.” You said pausing your music and looking up at the South African who had just given you a minor heart attack.

“You should really try out for the band. I feel like it could use a bit of you.” Byron said as he walking around you to grab some water.

“A bit of me?” You asked.

“Yeah, you’ve got a nice voice. It could really add something to the band…if you could even call it that right now. Can you have a band with just two people?” He said flashing you his smile.

“I think you can. You two obviously have it all taken care of…you on all of the instruments and Joe on vocals and management…and marketing.” You laughed.

“I’ll talk to him about letting you try out. If this thing really takes off, you should be apart of it.” He said warmly making you crinkle your face in a weird way.

You gave him a nod before turning back to your laptop but you couldn’t focus as you felt his eyes still on you.

“Can I ask you a question?”

“Sure.”

“Is it weird having me around?” He asked, causing you to stop your work.

“What do you mean?”

“I dunno, just living here, being around you nearly everyday. It that weird?”

“Umm, no. I like it actually. Gives me someone to hang out with while Joe is off doing YouTube things.” You said gesturing to the room Byron had left Joe in.

“Right…” Byron said as he watched you turn back to you work, “Would it be weird if I asked you out then?”

You froze for a moment, not expecting him to ask you out, “Um no. No that wouldn’t be weird at all.”

“Are you hungry?”

“Right now?”

“Yeah. Joe’s editing his video for tonight and that’ll probably take a few hours…so why don’t we go grab something to eat.”

“Okay,” You said closing your laptop, “Let me just grab my things.” You said walking down the hallway where you had dumped a bunch of your things earlier that weekend.

Joe was still sitting on the bed, seeming to not have moved after he had finished filming. He looked up from his laptop flashing you a quick wink before going back to work. You turned away, back to Byron who was waiting at the door.

“You ready?”

“Mhmm.” You smile as you lead him out the door.

These are the lessons I have learned, the words left unsaid, the words that have resonated in my heart.

1. Don’t compare yourself to other people. Each and every person goes about life at their own pace. It doesn’t matter if it takes you one month, three weeks, or a few years longer than everyone else. Do not lose your individual color trying to catch up to the world.

2. Look at where you are, who you’re with, what you’ve become. That is exactly where you need to be. Do not be afraid of the future and do not dwell on the past, because at this exact moment you are exactly where you are supposed to be. Do not doubt that.

3. If you’re depressed and you know it, admit it. That is the first and most important step to recovery. Don’t cover it up with facades like a band-aid. Nor should you wrap yourself with it like a blanket. But throughout that whole process of healing, know that you are still you. When you’re humming along to your favorite Daphne Loves Derby song or when you’re crying in the corner of the bathroom, that is still you.

4. Accept that others want to help you, too. You are not meant to go about this life alone. No one is. There will always be a community of people, small or large, that is willing to stay by your side. Some moments might be obvious and come in the form of a telephone call or a hug. Other times it may be that they see bits and pieces of you in their day, and that is enough. You don’t need to do everything alone.

5. Guard your heart but do not barricade it from the world, even from yourself. I believe it’s been long enough and you owe it to yourself to open up.

6. You had a very simple dream in high school. You wanted to touch people’s lives, to help them love themselves in a way that you never could. You wanted to make sure that everyone saw a light, even when they couldn’t see it themselves. Even if it was only one person, that was your dream. Right now, at this moment, you are accomplishing your dream. Remember that.

7. You will have your time to leave on a new adventure. It may not be now or in the next month, but that time will come. And when it does, be ready to leave without looking back. One day you’ll be able to stretch your wings.

8. You will be okay.

when everyone has ignored you obsessing over something and then suddenly something major happens and everyone is calling attention to the very thing that you’ve been yelling about into their (apparently deaf) ears for the last god knows how long and you just want to hit something
