Hi! I am making a Gumi cosplay from the song Tokio Funka, and Gumi's shirt and leggings look like they are made of strips of white cloth wrapped around her. Is there a way I can color or sew a white shirt to make this illusion? Or if not, do you have any patterns or methods or wrapping cloth so that it doesn't come apart. Thanks!

If you are reallllly good at shading, you could colour a shirt and make this illusion work. If you aren’t really good at shading, you could draw lines on a shirt and get an effect that would work.

But my suggestion is to actually make a shirt with strips of cloth! You can do this by making a bunch of rectangular strips (hemming them or making tubes if needed). Then you can sew them to a shirt, or just sew them together to create the look. The pictures I am looking at show Gumi wearing a sort of tube top, which would be very easy to create with this method. I would do it like this:

  • create a bunch of the rectangles with a stretch fabric
  • lay them out and pin them to each other to create one piece of bandage fabric OR pin them to another piece of fabric.

width = long enough to wrap around your body + seam allowance.
height = as tall as you want the bandage wrap to be.
  • Sew it all together so it is secure, and trim off excess
  • Sew the back seam so you have a tube-top.

You can do the same things for the leg bandages! Though I would say to make them a pair of shorts or attach them to shorts so that they don’t slide down your leg. That’s really annoying!

Hope this helps!
