band: the saturdays

how to study as a busy student

i personally go through this a lot because i have to balance saturday band, honor band, auditions, performances, history club, national history day with school and nonexistant friends. so here u go, friend!! this is my advice to keep up with your (busy) studying!! ha see what i did there im so funny

1. have a planning system. this is a no-brainer. but honestly you’re going to need something to help you keep track of all your deadlines AND your afterschool activities. it doesn’t have to be expensive or fancy; heck it can even be on your phone. but make sure you’re keeping track of everything.

2. use all the time you can to do your homework. if you’re really behind or you have a lot of homework and not enough time to do it at home, do your homework when you can during school. this does NOT mean trying to set the world record for fastest writer while your teacher is collecting the homework. this means on the bus, waiting for your food/the bus/your friends, those down periods during and between classes, during sports practice, and even during lunch. however do NOT make a habit of this!! i get that its a lot, but please still try to have a life!!!

3. set aside a day a week to solely catch up on school work, and another day just to relax. i usually have saturday as my school work day and sunday as my day to relax and prepare for the week. this may seem contradictory, seeing as you may have sports practice or rehearsal on saturday or something. but think of it this way: you’re already going to be working your butt off that day. you might as well keep that flow going and get all your school work together and catch up on any missing assignments. you can also use that sunday off as your motivation to work hard because youre being rewarded with a completely free day.

4. do your homework on friday. please. just do it. this kind of follows the same concept as above: you have school that day anyways, so keep working your hardest. now, if you have no friends like me, this’ll be easy. but if you have plans on fridays (which you should, seriously, go out), stop working 1-2 hours before you have to go somewhere. you can continue any work you havent completed on your catch-up day.

5. drop one or two things. this sounds really painful!!! but being in a lot of extracurriculars and having a nice application/resume is not as nice as your mental health. not being able to balance too many things at once will stress you out and make you sick. like, i used to be in drama club and i also had piano class on wednesdays. once i got older, i realized that these things looked nice on my honor society application, but i didnt have time for what really mattered. (plus i didn’t rly like them anyways.) if you can work your way around it, fine. but otherwise, keep the things close to your heart and drop what you absolutely don’t have time for.

6. if worst comes to worst, talk to your teachers. they will understand, if you’re struggling to be a well-rounded student and keep up your grades at the same time. this doesn’t mean lie or use your teachers as an easy way out. but rather, if everything becomes too overwhelming, talk to someone.

i really hope that helped @ the original anon who asked me this question! sorry this was so late! i’m quite the busy student myself hahaha

SNL - Harry Styles Imagine

When you’d heard that Harry Styles was going to be on your show, it was all you could do not to scream out loud. You’d been a One Direction fan for years. Now days, however, you were less vocal about it.

You were young, and fond of comedy and writing, so being a comedy writer for SNL seemed perfect for you. You’d only been here for a little longer than four months, but you’d already become a favorite of the cast for your skits. You were by far one of the youngest writers on set.

When Lorne came to you and asked you to write the new “Celebrity Family Feud” episode you were considerably excited. Not only would you get to write an episode of one of your favorite parody skits, but you got to write a part for Harry Styles. It would be an under statement to say that you were excited.

“Wow, you look very nice today,” your coworker Kate McKinnon said with raised eyebrows.

“Thanks,” you said, pushing a strand of hair behind your ear.

“Any particular reason?” She asked, nudging you. She was one of your best friends on set so you thought you could trust her with your secret.

“Well, to be honest, I’m a big One Direction fan, I’m excited to see Harry,” You admitted sheepishly.

“Oh really,” Kate said mischievously. “Well he’s here I think.”

“He is!” You said nervously, you hadn’t been able to prepare yourself.

“Yeah, I’ll introduce you,” she was grinning with glee.

“Kate!” You tried to stop her.

“Hey Harry!” Kate called, and seemingly out of no where Harry Edward Styles began to saunter towards her. When Harry reached you, Kate had the grin of the Cheshire Cat.

“This is y/n, she’s a huge fan,” Kate said and simply walked off, leaving you alone with Harry. You felt your stomach lurch with nervousness.

“Hello y/n,” Harry said in his deep sultry voice.

“Hi,” you said, making sure you smiled, and didn’t look like a dying fish or something.

“I really like Sign of the Times,” you blurted. “I mean it’s just amazing, it really speaks to me about the state of the world. It’s so powerful and beautiful, and different from anything anyone else is doing, I just I wanted to let you know….I really like it…” you tapered off, feeling awkward all at once.

“Thanks,” Harry said, and he was genuinely smiling with gratefulness. “I was worried it wouldn’t work without the rest of the boy.”

“Don’t get me wrong, I love the boys, but this song is just monumental!” You said smiling.

“Wow, that’s really kind of you,” Harry smiled. Soon you were talking like you’d been old friends forever. It was wonderful, you couldn’t imagine a nicer person to talk with. He’s was so real, so genuine, there was nothing fake or showy about him.

Eventually, of course, everyone had to get to rehearsal, and you enjoyed watching Harry in the skit you’d written. As he was practicing, he turned to you, and winked. However, this action was not unnoticed by one cast member.

“Harry, stop flirting with Y/N!” Jimmy called jovially, and Harry blushed. You began to blush as well, but felt your heart swell happily. “You can use your Styles charm on her later,” Jimmy laughed.

In a little bit it was time for Harry to practice his song. You stood there in awe, as Harry’s powerful, ground breaking voice rang out. The words seemed to vibrate your heart.

When he finished, everyone applauded. You were so proud of Harry that you began to tear up a bit. You’d been there for his Xfactor days, and for the first album, through all the tours, and to know he’d gotten so far made you so happy.

As Harry sauntered over to you, you wiped your eyes quickly to hide your emotions. However, as he walked closer, seeing him made you well up all over again. Without thinking you threw your arms around him, hugging him tight.

“That was awesome,” you spoke into his shoulder.

“Thanks,” he mumbled back, seeming to be thankful for the hug. He was shaking a bit, he must’ve been nervous. You let him go, and stepped back, embarrassed at your outburst. However, when you looked up his eyes were sparkling, and he was looking at you gently.

“So you wanna get some coffee after this?” He asked abruptly.

You had to hold yourself back from saying, “who me?!” You were amazed to see your dreams coming true before your eyes.

“Yes definitely!” You exclaimed. “Here’s my number, just in case I’m doing something when you finish rehearsal,” you said excitedly, scrawling your number on a piece of paper.

“Awesome, thank you,” Harry said grinning at the paper you handed him.

“Y/n!” one of the other writers was calling you.

“I guess I have to go,” you said drearily.

“Alright, well I’ll see you later,” Harry winked and you smiled brightly at him before running off.

i don’t know why but there seems to be a big difference to me between the phrases “i’m in band” vs “i’m in a band”

because like “i’m in band” reminds me of marching and concert bands ran by schools

but “i’m in a band” makes me think of a little rock band that meets in a garage on saturdays

“Saturday, June 16th 1979:

In the evening to a party at Eric’s – given by Chris Miller for Carrie Fisher (the heroine of Star Wars), who is renting El’s house while she works on a Star Wars Sequel at Elstree.

Carrie looking very small and delicate, her soft, pale skin a refreshing change from the butch aerosol-spray healthy look of most Los Angeleans. She doesn’t know anyone, but is straight and funny at the same time, and we have a mutual line of chat belonging to the select band of Saturday Night Live hosts. She is currently ‘going with’ Paul Simon…

The two heroes of Star Wars are also there – Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford.

Hamill is chirpy and is dressed like a delivery boy. Harrison for looks young and alienated. He would look over his glasses at us if he had any. As it is he moves broodingly around – like a famous man might do if he knew how famous he is.”

Prompt from anon: Can you do 5.‘say it again’, and 37.'I’m sick of being the other girl’ with Jughead ? <3

“Aw, say it again, Jug!” Veronica said.

Jughead looked up.

“What? “Bets?”” he asked.

Veronica squealed.

“Yeah! That’s such a cute nickname! What do you call him, Betty? “Juggie?”” she asked.

Jughead and Betty, who were sitting across from you and Veronica, looked down and Veronica’s eyes widened as she realized she was correct. She squealed again and you frowned, sinking lower in your chair in the booth. You know Veronica meant no harm. She was happy for her best friend. Betty and Jughead had just announced they were dating and you couldn’t stand it. Probably due to the fact you were madly in love with Jughead. He was your best friend. You were happy for Betty, truly you were, but you couldn’t help but feel insanely jealous. What did she have that you didn’t? Oh right. Jughead. There was also the problem of Jughead blowing off plans with you to hang with Betty, claiming he had forgotten about pre-made plans with her. Whether he meant to blow you off or not didn’t matter. The fact that he did was the cause of your pain. Not wanting to ruin your Saturday evening (or the new couple’s) you got up, pulling your jacket on.

“Y/N? Where are you going?” Jughead asked, sitting up ever so slightly.

You sighed.

“Home. I’m not feeling so hot.” You said. It wasn’t a total lie. Seeing Jughead and Betty getting all cuddly made you sick to your stomach.

“You sure? Will we see you at the game later?” Betty asked.

You smiled softly at her. You knew it wasn’t her fault. It wasn’t Jughead’s fault. It wasn’t anyone’s fault. Hell, there was no fault. This was just how life worked sometimes.

“Probably not,” you told her. “I’ll see you guys Monday, okay?”

Jughead was about to respond but you left quickly, not wanting to stay another minute. Hopefully Monday would be better.

You were wrong. Monday came in and smacked you in the face with Jughead and Betty being all lovey-dovey. You couldn’t escape it. It seemed that everywhere you looked they were there. Whether it be little kisses, holding hands, or gazing into each other eyes, it didn’t matter. All of them hurt your heart just the same. Hanging out at the Blue & Gold office didn’t help either. Jughead giving Betty hugs from behind as she giggled, whispering something into his ear. You clenched your teeth at the sight of them before abruptly announcing you were going to Pop’s.

“We’ll join you!” Betty said, packing up her things.

Oh, for the love of—

“If it’s okay with you.” she clarified, noticing your expression.

You felt bad so you plastered on a fake smile.

“Sure, why not? I could use some company.” You said.

Betty smiled as she took Jughead’s hand, the two whispering loving remarks to each other as they walked behind you. Your fake smile faded. You were about to scream. Then you remembered your and Jughead’s plans for tomorrow and perked up. Jughead had texted you on Sunday apologizing for his behavior recently and promised to hang out with you the following Saturday. Watching classic movies and critiquing them. Like old times. You readily accepted.

By the time the three of you had gotten to Pop’s, you were happier, chatting with the two of about the Blue & Gold and its upcoming stories, and even about the couple’s recent dates. You felt like nothing could ruin your mood.

“And then this Saturday, we’re going into the city to watch a concert! I was able to convince my mother to let me go with Jughead, and I can’t wait. It’s our favorite band!” Betty said.

You froze.

“Saturday? As in next Saturday?” you asked slowly.

“Yeah.” Jughead said.

You deflated.

“Jug, you said we were going to hang out Saturday. Remember? You promised.” you said.

Jughead froze as he suddenly remembered.

“Oh, son of a— I’m sorry, Y/N. Listen, I’ll make it up to you, okay?” he asked, eyes sincere.

But you didn’t care. You scoffed and you began to feel the hot sting of tears.

“That’s what you said last time. And the time before that. And before that,” you said, arms crossed.

Betty and Jughead were silent. That was it. You were done.

“I can’t do this anymore.” You said as you got up and began to make your way to the exit.

“Wait—“

“Y/N—“

Jughead reached out but you moved your arm away from him as if you had been burned.

I’m sick of being the other girl! Okay?! I’m done!” you exclaimed before running out of the diner.

The two of them didn’t follow you. You shuddered in the cold air, a couple tears trickling down your cheeks as you began to make your way home. You were fine. You didn’t need them. And you especially didn’t need Jughead.
