Study break! I rediscovered my love for Baba Farid ji’s dohe (couplets). I tried to stay to true to the Gurmukhi of the time. It’s so very different from today’s written language! Irrespective of creed, these words ring true. 🙏

Translation: Fareed, do not slander the dust; nothing is as great as dust.
When we are alive, it is under our feet, and when we are dead, it is above us.

Vekh Fareeda Mitti khulli,
Mitti uttay Mitti dulli.
Mitti hassay, Mitti roay,
Anatt Mitti da Mitti hoay.
Naan kar Bandiya “meri meri”,
Naan ay teri, naan ay meri.
Chaar dinan da mela dunya,
Phir Mitti di ban gai dheri.
Na kar eithay hera pheri,
Mitti naal na dhoka ker tu
Too vi Mitti, Oo vi Mitti.
Zaat paat di gal na kar tu,
Zaat vi Mitti, tu vi Mitti.
Zaat sirf Khuda di Uchhi,
Baqi sab kuch mitti, mitti.

O Fareed, why do you wander from jungle to jungle, crashing through the thorny trees?
The Lord abides in the heart. Why are you looking for him in the jungle? ||19|| _____________
