Xylion is definitely not ready to hear about nuclear warfare
He most definitely is not.
Xylion was sitting in the break room, drowning out the cries of the humans as they played that sickly game known as Grand Theft Auto V. The occasional explosions and screams from pedestrians was terrifying.
However, after thirty minutes, the sound seemed to stop. Xylion was confused, so he took a glance at the Humans, only to see them playing a different game.
Xylion carefully made his way over to the TV and sat down next to Human Jenny, who was carefully watching Human Fredrick as he navigated the world around him. Xylion was confused about the way it was put together. It was mostly destroyed, and was clearly not the Earth he had seen the one time he went down there. “What is this place?”
“Diamond City.” Human Fredrick said, absentmindedly.
“And what happened to it?”
“The world got nuked.”
Human Fredrick sighed as he paused the game. He turned around to face him. “I’m going to assume you’ve never heard of a Nuclear Bomb before, huh?”
“What is a ‘Nuclear Bomb’? I know what a bomb is, but those aren’t typically used nowadays.”
Human Isaac held back laughter after hearing that. Xylion looked towards him, but Human Jenny was the one who refocused his attention. He nodded, apologizing to Human Fredrick for losing focus.
“It’s alright. We humans do it all the time. Anyways, a Nuclear bomb is similar to a normal bomb, except way worse.”
Xylion was confused. A bomb was already terrible. When activated, it could kill hundreds to thousands of people. How worse could a Nuclear bomb be?
Before he could ask it, Human Jenny stood up. “Let me go get my textbook.”
He watched her run off. Xylion sighed, and began to knot his tentacles together. Human Isaac seemed transfixed on it. “Woah, now that’s some cool shit.”
Human Jenny came back moments later, carrying a few textbooks. She dropped them on the ground before grabbing one. “This one talks all about World War II.”
Xylion attempted to throw his tentacles in the air, but he only tightened the knot, and ended up crying out in pain. “World War II?” He managed to squeak out as Human mason helped him untie his tentacles.
“More than one?”
Xylion looked down as Human Fredrick grabbed the textbook from Human Jenny. He flipped through the book before showing a page to Xylion. There were models of some weird shaped objects labeled ‘Little Boy’ and ‘Fat Man’. “These are the two nuclear bombs used at the end of World War II. Little Boy was dropped on a city called Hiroshima in Japan, and Fat Man on Nagasaki.”
“Why? What was the point?”
“Well, see, in World War II, there were the Axis powers and the Allies. The Axis was built up of Germany, known as the Nazis at the time and led by Adolf Hitler, Italy led by Benito Mussolini, and Japan led by Emperor Hirohito. The Allies were the opposing team that is considered the good side now. The three main ones, while there were others, is the United Kingdom led by William Churchill, the Soviet Union led by Josef Stalin, and the United States led by President Franklin Roosevelt, at least for a good chunk of the war.”
Xylion rubbed his tentacles together. “And why were the bombs used?”
“I’m getting to that. So, Germany and Italy were eventually defeated, but Japan had different beliefs when it came to war. It was essentially, surrender is never an option and death is more worthy than surrender. So, surrendering was not an option for them. The United States, worried the war would drag on for even longer, turned to president Harry Truman. Truman had to either decide to continue fighting as they had, or threaten them with Project Manhattan. No one really knew what it was, but all he said as a threat was that they would drop a bomb on one of their heavily populated cities.”
“And why would they do that? They could kill everyone!”
“That was kind of the point, Xylion.” Human Isaac said, rolling his eyes.
Xylion sighed, ignoring him. “Anyways…” Human Fredrick said, narrowing his eyes at his crewmate. “Japan refused to surrender, either not believing America or just out of their principle, I can’t exactly remember. So, America sent Little Boy off to Hiroshima. And they dropped the first nuke.”
“A nuke is essentially a large scale bomb. They not only have huge explosions, but they also release a ton of radiation, which is highly poisonous to humans. In large amounts, of course. It can cause different deformities and cancer, which can be incurable in some cases. 70,000 to 80,000 people were killed by the blast, and another 70,000 injured. About 20,000 military personnel were killed and/or injured.”
Xylion couldn’t believe what he was hearing. With that many dead, surely they would’ve changed their principle, right? Accepted defeat?
“So they stopped fighting?”
“No. They refused to surrender, so we were forced to drop another bomb on them. Fat Man. We dropped it on Nagasaki, another Japanese city. The death toll, in it’s entirety, grew to 129,000 to 240,000, though some believe the total death toll could be higher. Japan soon surrendered.”
Xylion felt his body begin to get covered in mucus. He grimaced. “Surely you don’t use them anymore, right?”
“Of course. Nuclear weapons are strictly banned in military wars. Now, it’s used as energy and fuel.”
“At least Japan has moved back into those cities, correct? Rebuilt everything?”
Human Fredrick scratched the back of his head. “The cities are still uninhabitable.”
“See, the radiation is still sticking around, and it will stay there for a few decades, I believe. No one can set foot in there without getting sick or dying.”
“So no one can live there?”
“Unless they want to grow a third eye or die of cancer, nah.” Human Isaac said, grinning at Xylion.
Human Fredrick sighed. “Essentially, yes.”
Xylion shook his head.
Humans were terrible, especially to themselves.
He stood up and carefully made his way back to his cabin. Once he got into his room, he sat on his bed, the horrors of what he heard still replaying in his mind.
Xylion didn’t think he could ever be the same, knowing just what humans did to one another.
I hope you enjoyed that.
I’m a huge history nerd, and I especially love learning and talking about WWII, mainly because of how it showed what humans are capable of, etcetera. I just think it was an interesting time period, because it helped dictate everything that has happened thus far. The Vietnam War, the Cold War, The Korean War, and so on.
Anyways, I especially know a lot about nuclear bombs and energy because we had to do a whole project on it in Chemistry last year. Me and my partner did the Yucca Mountain Power Plant in Nevada, but I still paid attention to Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
So. Secret Empire. I read it and it's just a sickening mess. Everything happening is just in service of making the Big Event Happen (like civil war 2, bluh) and the only reason I'm really excited for this is so that we can just purge nazi-cap from our collective consciousness once this is over. I don't even have a question! I'm just venting about this shitty event! Fuck nick spencer, that guy is a moron with no respect for where cap CAME from. "Oh he was a nazi the whole time" eat SHIT SPENCER

Marvel is a hot mess right now with that boring fascist captain America and every series that I was enjoying is either ending in the next couple of months or crossover events are ruining them, looks like marvel is in the same place dc was during the new 52 era
Anonymous said:Thoughts on Dark Matter/Generations/Secret Empire? Specifically for secret Empire, Cap is on of my favorite heroes and I feel like this fundamentally breaks him in a really shitty way. Not to say we won’t get good stories with him in the future, but it’s sort of like Dr. Light where every time he shows up you can’t help but think of identity crisis.
There’s been a bit of a theme to my asks the last couple days.
So yeah. Spoilers ahead, obviously: in the midst of an all-out assault on the nation and world, just as it seemed everyone would make it through like always to see another day, America was betrayed by its systems and subverted from within, culminating in an overt fascist seizing of the White House. Don’t worry though, this week Marvel’s saying it isn’t political.
The cake-topper being that as it turns out via flashback, Nazi Cap (and in response to the inevitable um, actually’s: Hydra’s seminal story under Steranko showed their leader as a character created by Stan and Jack as a Nazi, pretty much all explicit Hydra-isn’t-Nazis material are retcons by Spencer for this arc, “Hail Hydra” is an obvious analogue for another fascist chant, the ‘real Hydra’ inner circle includes Nazis and Neo-Nazis, and this Cap’s vision for America includes white children hunting black children in the street. He’s a fuckin’ Nazi) isn’t a construct of the cosmic cube, but in fact the real Steve Rogers: the Axis won World War II, but the Allies used a cosmic cube to create a fake history where Rogers was on their side and they won the war - gotta ask why they didn’t deal with the Holocaust too - with the real guy now reactivated and fulfilling his true mission. Obviously, this not only delegitimizes every story of a character created by a pair of Jewish-Americans specifically to punch Hitler right in the fucking face, but does it by stating that in the natural course of things, the Master Race of course overtakes the Earth with their sheer superiority, with the very concept of the people they would annihilate having a chance at hope or justice or freedom being a lie currently in the process of getting torn down.
This is a little bit touchy.
There’s obvious franchising reasons for this: Chris Evans has made clear he isn’t sticking around for long if at all after Avengers 4, while as of that movie Anthony Mackie will still have at least 3 films in his contract, so it’s in their interests to set Sam Wilson up in the comics as Captain America to match. Problem is, they started the process before a movie about Steve Rogers, so they had to bring him back, and now have to figure out a way to get him out of the picture for a longer period than simply old age or death. And if you want to get him out of the running for the title of One True Captain America, not only making him a Nazi, and retroactively always a Nazi at that, but classifying literally every non-Nazi Captain America story essentially in-universe fanfic? That’ll get him off the board for awhile. It’s ruinously terrible, but also quick and easy, same as it was quick and easy to move Captain Marvel and once upon a time Iron Man into the spotlight in time for their movies by making them fascists. You’ll have to ask Marvel why fascism is their go-to shocking character twist, though.
I think the source point of the issues here stems from something simple I mentioned recently: I don’t think either of the Big Two necessarily believe there’s going to be a comic book industry in 20 years, or even necessarily 10, so there’s no real
reason to attempt anything other than drawing as much blood from the stone as
they possibly can. Clearly the creators are trying their best,
middle-management I’m sure have long-term plans, and I doubt the powers-that-be
want it to fail. But sales have been
dropping for years, and neither of them have demonstrated any plan of substance
whatsoever to reverse that trend. They both had their moments of attempting to
right the ship, and both fell through – the original Marvel NOW! and its
immediate follow-ups were major successes, but half their biggest writers left
in the wake of Secret Wars and so
they reverted to type with endless editorial interference and bullshit
crossovers, while DC’s attempt at innovation with DCYou was scattershot at best,
clearly born less of a philosophy of “let’s let our best talents try bold new
things!” nearly so much as “let’s do weird new things that might grab headlines”.
Viewed in that light, many of their recent decisions start
to make sense; after the New 52 trying to draw in 90s fanboys and maybe a couple teenagers fell through, DC’s explicitly banking on rolling back the clock and appealing
to the core fanbase with Rebirth
while simultaneously betting everything on the shock value of incorporating Watchmen, while Marvel has fallen back
on its regular event-and-relaunch tactics, and if the “Make Mine Marvel” rumors
are true, they’ll soon be returning to a predominately white and male cast of headliners
with a handful of exceptions (hence why escape hatches were built into almost
all of their recent successor characters – Mjolner was prophesied to return to
the Odinson before the first issue of Jane Foster’s book, Tony Stark is only in
stasis, the Ultimate Universe may or may not be waiting out there for Miles and
his cast to return, etc.) They don’t think there’s a new audience to be won, or
at minimum they clearly haven’t given any thought to the kind of formatting,
publication, narrative or marketing breakthroughs that might let them reach
that wider audience (probably part of why they’re so petrified of staying in
retailers’ good graces – digital of the way of the future, but they don’t
believe they’re going to see that future, therefore they’re sticking to
appealing to the base while they can), and so naturally they’re going to the
tried-and-true methods of drawing cash out of the existing audience until it
all falls apart, by which time everyone currently at the top will have new jobs
or be retired.
So that Marvel in particular has been overly contemptuous of
progressive elements of their fanbase isn’t shocking. I doubt their leadership
of middle-aged guys have any particular sympathy for their viewpoint, and if they don’t
see them as a potential pathway to saving the industry either, then it’s not a
surprise they clearly see them as a gaggle of mercurial, industry-ignorant
whiners, to be discarded once the half-hearted measures at winning them over
aren’t enough. And if they’ve decided they don’t give a shit about progressive
ideals in the slightest beyond what’s necessary to avoid mainstream attention
on their fuck-ups, and they don’t seem to be trying to bring about a workable
model for the industry – especially given that they’re at this point
unquestionably the secondary caretakers of these characters compared to TV and
movies, so these franchises can go on without them – and they’re convinced shock value stunts and
events are the only way to draw in dollars while they can, then yeah. Sure. Why
wouldn’t they make Captain America a Nazi? To think that’s a bad idea would
require meaningfully giving a shit about their own product, or at least thinking that
anyone else will in a few years.
As for the Fantastic Four, that’s probably still in Fox’s hands, but I really do hope Al Ewing gets a crack at them someday.
Esoteric Nazism is like the trainwreck you can’t look away from of ideology:
Savitri Devi Mukherji… was the pseudonym of the Greek-French writer Maximiani Portas… a prominent proponent of animal rights, deep ecology and Nazism, who served the Axis cause during World War II by spying on Allied forces in India. She wrote about animal rights movements and was a leading member of the Nazi underground during the 1960s.
Savitri Devi was also an animal-rights activist who authored the book The Impeachment of Man in 1959 and was a proponent of Hinduism and Nazism, synthesizing the two, proclaiming Adolf Hitler to have been sent by Providence, much like an avatar of the Hindu God Vishnu. She believed Hitler was a sacrifice for humanity which would lead to the end of the Kali Yuga induced by who she felt were the powers of evil, the Jews. Her writings have influenced neo-Nazism and Nazi occultism. Among Savitri Devi’s ideas was the classifications of “men above time”, “men in time” and “men against time”. Rejecting Judeo-Christianity, she believed in a form of pantheistic monism; a single cosmos of nature composed of divine energy-matter.
Miguel Serrano was a Chilean diplomat, journalist and author of poetry, books on spiritual questing and Esoteric Hitlerism. From the 1950s up to 1970, when he was dismissed by Salvador Allende, he served as ambassador to India, Yugoslavia, Romania, Bulgaria and Austria.
Serrano’s anti-modernist neo-Gnostic philosophy claims to elucidate the extraterrestrial origin of the Hyperborean-descended Aryan race, image-bearers of the Godhead, and postulates a global conspiracy against them by an evil inferior godlet: The Demiurge, worshipped by the Jewish people, lord of planet Earth, spawner of the primitive hominid stocks, and author of all base materiality. Serrano foremostly synthesized the Hindu-Vedic and Nordic-Germanic religious traditions, both of which he considered to be of ancient Aryan-Hyperborean provenance, in addition to particularly esoteric and racialist interpretations of Buddhism, Christianity (or “Kristianism”), Luciferianism (not to be confused with Satanism), and Gnosticism. He was especially indebted to the Jungian theory of collective racial archetypes, borrowed heavily from Julius Evola in supporting a spiritual consideration of race, as opposed to a solely biological one, and followed Savitri Devi in regarding Adolf Hitler as an avatar (a divine incarnation) who battled against the demonic materialistic hosts of the Kali Yuga.
Sometimes you will run into someone who denies there was a Holocaust, or, more commonly, who says, “Well, it wasn’t as big as people say.” Though you may feel they are wrong, you might think to yourself “But how do we know what happened?”
I’m posting this quick blurb from Wikipedia for those interested in the subject of rebutting Holocaust deniers. Of course this is a very superficial list but it gives you starting point for further study. Another entry-level link you might enjoy is the Criticism of Holocaust Denial page which goes a little deeper.
Use this to start looking into the subject. It won’t take you long to see that all Holocaust deniers use the same recycled rhetoric and their “arguments” have been disproved multiple times.
You probably won’t be able to convince a Holocaust denier that he/she was wrong – because they are not actually interested in facts that don’t fit their delusion– but you will feel more confident in addressing the issue and you will be able to remove the doubts of others.
The Holocaust deniers do not have facts, they simply seek to create doubt. By learning more about the subject you become immune to their scumminess.
The key claims which cause Holocaust denial to differ from established fact are:
The Nazis had no official policy or intention of exterminating Jews.
The figure of 5 to 6 million Jewish deaths is a gross exaggeration, and the actual number is an order of magnitude lower.
Other claims include the following:
Stories of the Holocaust were a myth initially created by the Allies of World War II to demonize Germans, Jews having spread this myth as part of a grander plot intended to enable the creation of a Jewish homeland in Palestine, and now to garner continuing support for the state of Israel.
The Holocaust was well documented by the bureaucracy of the Nazi government itself. It was further witnessed by the Allied forces who entered Germany and its associated Axis states towards the end of World War II.
According to researchers Michael Shermer and Alex Grobman, there is a “convergence of evidence” that proves that the Holocaust happened. This evidence includes:
Written documents—hundreds of thousands of letters, memos, blueprints, orders, bills, speeches, articles, memoirs, and confessions.
Eyewitness testimony—accounts from survivors, Jewish Sonderkommandos (who helped load bodies from the gas chambers into the crematoria in exchange for a chance of survival), SS guards, commandants, local townspeople, and even high-ranking Nazis who spoke openly about the mass murder of the Jews.
Photographs—including official military and press photographs, civilian photographs, secret photographs taken by survivors, aerial photographs, German and Allied film footage, and unofficial photographs taken by the German military.
The camps themselves—concentration camps, work camps, and extermination camps that still exist in varying degrees of originality and reconstruction.
Inferential evidence or argument from silence — population demographics, reconstructed from the pre–World War II era; if six million Jews were not killed, what happened to them?
Much of the controversy surrounding the claims of Holocaust deniers centers on the methods used to present arguments that the Holocaust allegedly never happened as commonly accepted. Numerous accounts have been given by Holocaust deniers (including evidence presented in court cases) of claimed facts and evidence; however, independent research has shown these claims to be based upon flawed research, biased statements, or even deliberately falsified evidence. Opponents of Holocaust denial have documented numerous instances in which such evidence was altered or manufactured (see Nizkor Project and David Irving). According to Pierre Vidal-Naquet, “in our society of image and spectacle, extermination on paper leads to extermination in reality.”
About 76 years ago, The United States of America joined the Allies in World War II against the Axis, a group of countries that embraced the political ideology of fascism. An ideology that allows and expects men to rape women in order to make children who will be hazed into this society. This was lead by a man by the name of Adolf Hitler, who systematically executed Jews, Gays, Blacks, etc. The Allies defeated these heinous men. And yet 76 years later in the streets of America, men gather without hoods, holding torches, screaming and cheering Blood and Soil politics, Sieg Heiling, and saying “we will not be replaced”. As if any race has tried to enslave them, massacre them, strip their rights to marriage, deport them, etc. And yet so many people stand idly by, doing nothing. There will be no punishment for them. These men will go to their jobs tomorrow and be smug. It disgusts me that people would let this happen and not say anything, rather, defending this as freedom of speech. Yet a Black Lives Matter protest is automatically deemed an act of terrorism, and tear gas fills the streets. These Nazis rushed and took over police barricades and were assaulting riot gear policemen. The officers did nothing. This is an act of systematic racism and if the public stays in silence, they’ve won, and they continue to get to go to their jobs and be smug. You may think that none of this affects you, or that you just aren’t giving them any power by ignoring them, but a fire that has fuel to continue burning, will keep burning even if you don’t give it more fuel. If you refuse to stamp said fire out, you are aiding and abetting to letting this small fire rage into something much larger. Just because they aren’t coming for you, doesn’t mean they won’t engulf you and everyone around you. Please take a stand in whatever way you can. Arrange meetings with neighbors and discuss what you can do to protect those who Nazis would harm. Speak out, talk to your congressmen, your mayors, etc. make them act. 76 years ago our grandparents fought against these monsters, and I will be damned if we let them come back around.
