awful coloring but i had to

My final for my organic modeling class.  Korra from Legend of Korra obviously.

Colors came out fucked up because I textured it in Zbrush rather than another program, then it looked awful in Maya, so I had to cut corners to get these colors.  A little too bright but I was too tired to fix it.  I’m really happy with how the model turned out, except for one of the hands which I couldn’t fix because Zbrush borked it up from the very beginning.  And posing it was a nightmare too.

Overall I’m happy with how it turned out.

So I’ve been overwhelmed by the black panther comicon appearance and I’ve been dwelling on how revolutionary the black panther movie is going to be, what it’s going to mean to countless people when this movie comes out and how long we still have to go, So I decided to put this short photoset together to illustrate exactly how big of a deal it is and how it is bigger than one person.

it’s so bittersweet because when I was younger (especially growing up where I did, a black kid in Finland) I really wished I had more access to imagery and media that reflected who I was because it would have made my life radically different for the better and I wouldn’t be at 26 (STILL) doing damage control but on the flipside, I’m so in awe of all of the beautiful talent in 2016 that younger black kids are able to see and be inspired by.

I think I was like 4 years old when I conciously picked up race and color via watching Disney’s “Aladdin” and I noticed how Jafar, the evil royal guards etc the villains were more ethnic looking or a shade darker than the “good” characters.

it’s insidious because you’re seeing something but at age 4, you don’t have the comprehension skill or knowledge to break it down and see it for what it is (Colorism, Societal bias against black people which is rooted in centuries of white supremacist doctrine, society associates things that are dark/darker colors with evil, danger, ugliness, dirt etc) and reject it.

so you pick it up and see it on a surface level and you think to yourself “well darker must mean ugly, criminal and less human”…then what happens when you look at yourself in the mirror and find out that you are black?

how is that going to impact how you see yourself?

and guess what? if a 4 year old black kid can pick that up and internalize that about him/her/themselves….then a white kid can sponge up the same language and imagery that dehumanizes black people too (subconciously/conciously)…what happens when when these people grow up? become teachers, doctors, law enforcement etc? what kind of impact is that going to have?

I’m going off on a tangent and that’s just one personal example but society does that on a global grand scale and it is largely unchecked.

but honestly though, look at the photoset and think about how many talented people out there that we love and respect….who would NOT have achieved the things they did if it wasn’t for another person before them inspiring them to reach their goals and acting as trail blazers when it seemed as though it was impossible….then think about the flipside and how many people, with all the potential in the world, never lived to become great because they were met with more images dehumanizing them than ones uplifting them…this is why the fight for HONEST representation is important and it continues.

argh, I didn’t plan on typing anything but I got in my feelings after watching this again

…anyway, here are some pictures to make you smile, the next gen gives me hope

and if none of that gets you going, here is a video of Michael Jackson surprising James Brown on stage and then thanking him for being his biggest influence (BET awards, 2003)

Okay, but what if the team went to a planet that thrived off emotions. Like they lived off of them. The stronger the emotion, the stronger they became. Like emotions kept their planet alive, it was the fuel that kept the lights on and the whole planet running, it was like electricity. Now imagine that Allura and the team are forming an alliance with them, and the aliens show them how it works. There’s this little platform with a smoky white orb displayed. They simply explain that all you have to do is press your palm against the orb, and boom. You contribute whatever emotion you’re feeling to the planet.

Now imagine Lance walking up to it, not saying a word, and just barely grazes the orb, and the entire planet just lights up. The lights get too bright to bear, some even exploding, and they can physically hear the hum of the energy in the air. The team looks in awe at the various blues that now light up the planet. One of the Paladins says “Wow Lance, I didn’t know you were /that/ excited about this mission.” Then one of the aliens just had the awed, grave look on their face and all they can say is “These colors do not mean happiness. They represent anguish.”

Safe Places.

Based on an ask I received!
I apologize, the story had to be edited so I rewrote the whole thing here!

Original idea by: @lightderin

Lance looked around at the accusing glares of his teammates, all different intensities. He smiled nervously, “Oops.”

They had been mapping out locations in the observatory of safe planets to land, or easy places to wormhole, in the case of an attack that needed quick escape.

The team had been at it for hours, and had over 120 spots pinpointed over multiple galaxies.

Lance, who had found the entire ordeal quite boring, had strolled away to check out the little holograms floating around.

He couldn’t help that it was hard for him to pay attention, ADHD did that to a person. Focusing just wasn’t his gig.

The blue paladin had started across the other side of the room, hands in his pockets and he just looked.

Until he thought he found Earth.

He should know what it looked like, he stared at its little hologram nearly every night.

Lance missed home.
He missed the people back there.

Without much thought, Lance reached forward to zoom in, a happy little smile on his lips.

Home.

Look at it, just right there—

“Aw, what the heck?!” A chorus of shouts came from behind and Lance jumped.

He turned to see the team staring at him, looking annoyed and tired. “Hm?”

Pidge motioned frantically to the hologram around them, “Lance, we lost our spot! We lost our points!”

Lance blinked, “…how?”

Keith groaned, “Idiot, because you were screwing around with the screen!”

Lance frowned, looking back at Earth, and saw how zoomed in it was and how the constellations and stars around him had changed too.

Oh, he didn’t think that one through.
Lance looked back at them and smiled nervously, “Oops?”

He was answered with grumbles, and a yawn from Hunk. They were tired and now were too frustrated to get significantly angry.

“Let’s go to bed, we can start again in the morning.” Shiro said, rubbing his forehead. “You too Lance.”

Lance rubbed his neck, looking at the ground as the team and the Altean duo walked past him.

He grunted when Keith bumped into him, “Watch where you’re going, Lance.” The red paladin spat.

Lance frowned.
Keith was the one who bumped into him!

“Oh yeah, mull—”
He was alone in the observatory.

He took a shaky breath, watching the doors close behind his friends, and sulked.

Great.
He had annoyed them all, again.

Why could he just keep his hands to himself? Look don’t touch, his mama had always said.

Lance sighed, arms coming up to pull up his hood and put it over his head. A safe place, where he could only see forward, and no one could see him.

Hoods were nice.
When you can only look back at your mistakes, they allow you to dream ahead and block out any side distractions.

It was a new world, your own world, and provided the blue paladin with a sense of security.

Safe.

He sat down, back in front of Earth, letting it float nearer to him and he watched it carefully.

The blue light illuminating the white space his head was tucked into, and it was just those two.

Lance and Earth.
She was such a pretty lady.

His sadness escaped through a sigh, and he allowed himself to be calm.

Tonight, he would fix it.
Lance would stay up all night and go through the map an replot every point.

And as morning came, the hood would come off, and Lance would feel a little better.

Everything would be okay.

It had to be, otherwise what would have been the point of staying up all night to do all of this for his team?

He skipped breakfast, as that time came the following morning. Not that he was incredibly hungry anyway.

“203…204, wait, no…” Lance put down another point, rubbing his eyes and swaying in his spot.

Lance had marked down every point they had previously plotted, and finding he hadn’t been able to sleep, continued on.

The blue paladin barely noticed as a door opened behind him, and the team entered.

“Wh— Lance? We thought you were still sleeping, you weren’t at breakfast.” Princess Allura said with a hint of surprise in her tone.

Lance chuckled, “Nah, thought I would finish up some of our plotting.”

Team Voltron and the Alteans were staring in awe at the color coordinated dots that glowed amongst the light blue holographic model.

“What is this?” Shiro asked.

Lance looked over, rubbing an eye.
“I felt horrible last night, messing up the work you guys did. So I stayed up and fixed it. I even took the time to color coordinate them by condition, size, and whether or not they are open at certain times.”

Each had their jaw dropped, staring at their blue paladin. He had done all of that?

“Did you sleep at all?” Hunk spoke up, brows furrowed as he stared at his friend.

The poor kid looked drained; skin paled, bags under his eyes, and red in the corners.

He was exhausted.

It took them a moment to process this, watching as Lance sat down and smiled at them. “I even found more. In at over two hundred charted locations giving the correct conditions.”

Keith said it. “Idiot.”

Lance blinked, visibly flinching at the sudden words, not what he had expected at all.

“What…?”

Pidge looked annoyed, although it was probably at the fact Lance had done something tech related better than her for once.

“You stayed up ALL NIGHT? On a map that wasn’t even that important?” She said, gaping.

Lance paused, “Not that…Wh… But you guys got so upset when I messed it up, an worked on it all day!”

Keith rolled his eyes, “Yeah, it needed done, but it wasn’t life or death. Look at you!”

Shiro, in a nicer tone, agreed. “He’s right, Lance. You didn’t have to do this, and it’s not healthy putting yourself through such stress.”

Hunk bit his lip, “I mean, you’re really tired right? What if, What o Zarkon attacked and you just fell asleep durin battle?”

“He would KILL you.” Allura confirmed. Coran nodded.

“You’ve got to take care of yourself.”

Lance looked around at his friends, not believing what he was hearing in the slightest.

How could they accuse him like this?
How could they be so rude?

Lance had done this for them, staying up all night to fix his mistake. He had wants to make them happy!

The blue paladin wanted to be apart of the team and help out for once, even if it was in a simple manner.

He hadn’t wanted to be reprimanded for a deed he believed was good.

Frustrated tears appeared, and Lance crossed his arms. “Fine, whatever, I’ll go to bed. Do what you want with that.”

He stood up, swayed, and nearly toppled over with exhaustion. Lance couldn’t stand the worried looks he was getting.

The hood came back up.
Things were supposed to have been okay.

Lance marched to his room, rubbing his nose with an aggravated sniff and glaring the tears away.

It wasn’t okay.
Why couldn’t it ever be okay?

ohbvcks  asked:

Derek Hale finding he enjoys bath bombs. Especially if they're what, lavender, I think that are the calming ones? Yeah. After a particularly rough night he goes home and drops one into a hot bath. Bonus points for Stiles' reaction being purely and genuinely in awe.

Derek doesn’t treat himself often. The store had been one of Laura’s favorites, and for the longest time he could never walk past it without the scents of the vanilla and cinnamon making him think of her. She’d enjoyed using the bath bombs a lot, and Derek remembers as a teenager he’d complain all the time about the colorful streaks left in the tub.

He’s looking in the shop window, and for the first time in a long while, the feeling is different– time has eased the pain and the guilt, and now it’s just the fond memories of his sister.

Derek pushes the door open, and the bell tinkles merrily. The employees are friendly– perhaps a bit too friendly and knowledgeable, and Derek doesn’t know how he finds himself talking, but talk he does. He doesn’t know what quite he wants, but he likes this scent, and he like relaxing after a long day, and … ends up purchasing an entire bag’s worth of bath bombs, hand creams, and a soap bar shaped like a spaceship for Stiles.

He gets home and puts dinner in the oven, puts away the laundry, and sits on the couch, wondering what to do next. Stiles won’t be home for awhile; Derek could take this opportunity to work on his next book, but he’s still waiting for feedback from his editor from the last one, and he doesn’t want to switch mindsets on his projects just yet.

The little brown bag is still sitting invitingly on the table; Derek takes out the tissue-wrapped one for Stiles and puts it in the bedroom, then takes the rest of it to the bathroom. He fills the tub, wondering when the last time he took an actual bath. He must have been a kid.

The purple-and-pink bath bomb has a touch of glitter in it, and when dropped in the water it starts fizzing immediately, exploding in a cascade of color and gentle lavender scent. Derek undresses and gets in the tub, closing his eyes.

It is calming. The warm water and bubbles are foaming gently around him, and the scent lulls him into a soft peace.

“There you are,” Stiles says, his voice a little awed.

Derek opens his eyes. Stiles is standing in the bathroom doorway, still in his deputy uniform, smiling fondly at him.

“You’re home early,” Derek says.

Stiles walks over to the tub, bending down to kiss Derek on the forehead. “Yeah, I finished everything. Plus, I wanted to see you. Dinner smells amazing, by the way. How was your day? Got yourself some bubble bath, I see.” Stiles dips his fingers in the water, flicking a bubble at Derek.

“I like it.”

“It’s a good look on you,” Stiles says.

“What is?”

“Happy.”

This makes Derek smile, and he tugs Stiles closer by the shirt, pulling him in for a deep kiss. “You’re getting me all wet,” Stiles says, laughing.

“Good, now you can join me.”

Stiles laughs and gets undressed, stepping carefully in the tub. It takes some bit of rearranging for them both to fit, but they manage. Derek hums to himself, kissing the back of Stiles’ neck, listening to him talk about his day. He may have never thought he’d get this quiet, soft domesticity, never thought he’d deserve it. But he does. He closes his eyes and lets the sound of Stiles’ voice and the warmth of the bath draw him in, the feeling of safety and comfort and love all around him.

“Prince Bruno, of the Emblian Empire, I ask you now…

Are you Zacharias?”

aaaa i had no idea where i was going with this draw but i just!!!! want alfonse to rip his stupid mask off already :’p

Fairy Tales

Prompt:  Analogical, Logan reading to Virgil (from @thuriweaver )
Pairing: Analogical

It’d been a rough day.

There was nothing wrong, exactly–at least, nothing in particular. Nothing Virgil could point to and say, “That. That is the problem.” But he was still feeling off, on edge and alert and completely unable to just relax

So he went to Logan’s room. Logan was there, reading, but he set his book aside when Virgil tapped on the door and poked his head in. He smiled, folding his hands on the polished surface of his desk. “Virgil,” he said. “What can I do for you?”

Virgil half-shrugged and rubbed the back of his neck. “I dunno. Nothing. I mean. Can I just…can I hang out? In here, with…with you?”’

Logan’s eyebrows climbed toward his hair, but he thankfully didn’t ask questions. Instead, he nodded once, and Virgil stepped gratefully into his space.

A noise at the trapdoor above the basement makes Luna snap to attention. If it’s the Manor’s house elf, Shiny, he’ll have food (and Luna is so hungry. She’s almost as hungry as she is cold), but if it’s not… Luna shudders. She’s no stranger, after a term at Hogwarts under the Carrows, to the Crutiatus Curse, but that Bellatrix woman doesn’t care about spilling blood.

To be safe, Luna draws back under the blanket she’d found folded next to her upon waking once - she doesn’t know if it had been morning or not - beneath a sack of apples and pumpkin juice. As far as she can tell, the other inhabitants of the basement are asleep. Olivander spends much of his time asleep, and she can’t hear Griphook cursing in the dark. Dean she’s not sure about.

The door swings open, and the light makes Luna blink. At its top, though, isn’t Shiny….or Bellatrix. Instead, Draco Malfoy, dressed in robes that remind Luna of Ravenclaw (oh goodness, her common room) stands, peering down at them. It must be Easter break.

She can’t read his intentions.

ufufufufu~ (#^_^#;;)

Read from right to left. I keep tweaking the color settings on my monitor but it still looks wonky to me. Color looks fine on my tablet though. I’m not sure anymore…

I wrote something in my sleep deprived state (I seriously found myself sleep-typing a few parts) and it’s just god-awful and all over the place. Eventually I got too tired and it just abruptly ended. I didn’t bother trying to go back through it. It’s after the cut if you’re so inclined to read something terrible.
