This isn’t weird. You’re ok. You’re a professional, you can do this!
Sadly your pep talk didn’t do much good. The moment you looked over at Harry, standing a few feet away, talking to some people, your hands started shaking, your mouth went dry and your heartbeat quickened. Why did he have to look so good? He was just wearing jeans and a button down shirt, open to wide as usual, and his hair did that wild-look thing you loved so much. DAMN!
“Five minutes, (Y/N)!”, someone told you and you nodded, trying to get a grip, concentrate on your speech.
What was it you were gonna say?
“Hi!”, said a familiar raspy voice next to you, a voice that made your knees go weak. You turned, forcing a smile.
“Thanks. You look, um, very nice yourself.”
He gave you a half-smile and you held your breath. You hated that he still had that effect on you.
“So, um”, he started, fiddling with his hands.
Was he nervous as well? Why?
“Congrats on the award, you really deserve it.”
You smiled, genuinely this time.
“Thank you, you always said I would get it someday.”
“Right, and here you are.” You both laughed awkwardly.
“One minute.”, someone reminded you.
“Yes. Well, then, I should…”, you gestured in the direction of the stage.
“Yeah, of course. It was nice seeing you. Good luck out there.”
You nodded, not really wanting to thank him AGAIN. The weird politeness between you made you feel even worse. He turned away, took two steps, then turned again.
“(Y/N), wait. I…I…”
Your eyebrows went up in surprise. Harry at a loss for words? That was new. He closed his eyes for a second and shook his head.
“I’m sorry…for how things ended and…and I wanted to tell you I was an idiot. I should have never let you go. You were the best thing that ever happened to me and that scared the shit out of me…”
You frowned. Was he saying what you thought he was saying? No, it couldn’t be, could it? “Do you think, maybe, when this award thing is over we could…I don’t know…get a drink or something to eat and, um, talk?”
You gulped and before you could think about it, you took a step, grabbed his neck, pulled him in and kissed him. At first he was surprised, then he grabbed your hips and pulled you closer.
“(Y/N)!”, your manager called and you broke away from Harry.
You smirked and winked at him, before walking on stage, leaving behind an out-of-breath and completely flabbergasted Harry.
After all the awards were handed out the host stood on stage, smiling.
“Well, that’s it for tonight. But before we go, let’s take a quick look at the best backstage moments from tonight.”
Short videos showed people backstage, crazy, funny and sweet, throughout the night. Lastly appeared a video that made your eyes go wide. You and Harry, talking. Harry apologizing. The whole awkward thing. And then the kiss. Man, what a good kiss. If it hadn’t been you up there on that big screen, you would have probably joined the applause and catcalls. Instead you scooted lower into your chair, while your manager rolled his eyes at you.
“That was a nice ending. Good to see you two figured things out, Harry and (Y/N).”, the host laughed.
Your face appeared on the screen, bright red, before changing to Harry, half hidden behind Ed’s head. He put a hand in front of his face, eyes closed, shaking his head, totally embarrassed, which made you laugh. Ed was laughing too and patted his back. Guess that made it official then.
Britain’s favourite couple, after Kate and Will of course, was back together.
