Read in 2016 » The Naturals by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

The truth he’d been dancing around for the past hour was suddenly incredibly clear. He and his team, this program— they didn’t just want to teach me how to hone my skills. They wanted to use them to catch killers.
     Serial killers.

Mythology: Timeless Tales of Gods and Heroes

Since its original publication by Little, Brown and Company in 1942, Edith Hamilton’s Mythology has sold millions of copies throughout the world and established itself as a perennial bestseller in its various available formats: hardcover, trade paperback, mass market paperback, and e-book. Mythology succeeds like no other book in bringing to life for the modern reader the Greek, Roman, and Norse myths and legends that are the keystone of Western culture - the stories of gods and heroes that have inspired human creativity from antiquity to the present.

Here are two covers I made for Adam Shaughnessy’s The Unbelievable FIB series (published by Algonquin). I loved reading the stories- they are full of adventure, heart, and both Norse and Russian mythology! I’ve also included my thumbnail sketches for both books- there was so much amazing imagery to choose from- very inspiring.

Book 1 is currently available as a hardcover (with a different cover) but both of these will be available later this year.

Thanks to Carla Weise and Laura Williams for their direction!

Just recently watched a documentary on the life of Anton de Kom entitled Peace, Memories of Anton de Kom

de Kom was a freedom fighter, an anti-colonialist, and a leader in the labor movement in Suriname. He is best known for his book, We Slaves of Suriname, which is noted as the first radical analysis of the history of Dutch colonization and slavery in the South American country. The book will be available digitally and in hardcover and paperback forms in January 2016.

Looking forward to finally reading the book in its entirety. Often times, the Dutch seem to be excluded from conversations on the horrors of slavery and colonization. The Dutch, just like the British, French, Spanish, and Portuguese, have a history and legacy of oppression that continues to impact the lives of those living in former Dutch colonies.

The artwork for Stephen King’s Finders Keepers has been revealed. The novel is the second volume in a trilogy that began with last year’s Mr. Mercedes. It will be available in hardcover, ebook and audio book on June 2 via Scribner Publishing.

A masterful, intensely suspenseful novel about a reader whose obsession with a reclusive writer goes far too far—a book about the power of storytelling, starring the same trio of unlikely and winning heroes King introduced in Mr. Mercedes.

“Wake up, genius.” So begins King’s instantly riveting story about a vengeful reader. The genius is John Rothstein, an iconic author who created a famous character, Jimmy Gold, but who hasn’t published a book for decades. Morris Bellamy is livid, not just because Rothstein has stopped providing books, but because the nonconformist Jimmy Gold has sold out for a career in advertising. Morris kills Rothstein and empties his safe of cash, yes, but the real treasure is a trove of notebooks containing at least one more Gold novel.

Morris hides the money and the notebooks, and then he is locked away for another crime. Decades later, a boy named Pete Saubers finds the treasure, and now it is Pete and his family that Bill Hodges, Holly Gibney, and Jerome Robinson must rescue from the ever-more deranged and vengeful Morris when he’s released from prison after thirty-five years.

Not since Misery has King played with the notion of a reader whose obsession with a writer gets dangerous. Finders Keepers is spectacular, heart-pounding suspense, but it is also King writing about how literature shapes a life—for good, for bad, forever.

We’re down to the last two days of the Beyond Anthology kickstarter! There’s still plenty of time to back Beyond, the queer sci-fi/fantasy comic anthology!

We recently unlocked a stretch goal of shiny foil on the covers, which will be on both the soft and hardcover versions of the anthology.  There’s still a few (very limited!) number of hardcover copies of the book available.  If you wanted a hardcover copy but the first batch had already been claimed: here’s your chance!

Beyond - 18 stories, 26 contributes, 250 pages of queer/LGBT sci-fi and fantasy comics - 2 days left on Kickstarter!

Lots of stuff up for sale/trade!

I’ve decided to downsize my collection and clear out what I’m not using anymore. I’d prefer to sell this stuff, but I’m totally open to trades of most kinds. I accept culinary grade herbs, bones, handcrafted items, other books, crafting supplies, even old punk CDs.

Items available are:

-Spells (hardcover), 1 and 2- $5 each, $8 for both. There are a few torn pages but they’re still readable and the covers have no wear
-The unofficial charmed companion (which actually does discuss a few things about Wicca), (paperback), $3

-Mind, Body, Spirit (hardcover), $8
-Hypnosis (vintage hardcover), $5
-Color Your World (vintage paperback), $4
-A Guide To Horoscopes (vintage hardcover), $5

-Rider Waite tarot deck (box is beat up but the deck is in perfect condition), $10
I’m open to trading it for another slightly different Waite deck, since I like the artwork, but this one was given to me by an ex so I don’t want it anymore.

-unnamed tarot deck, this deck is a little untraditional, and the cards are playing card sized. $5

-wooden Balinese flute (also called a suling), I’ve tried to play it but i have weak lungs (medical condition I’ve recovered from but left me with a lot of internal scarring) and could never get it to make any noise. I’m sure someone else will have more luck with it. It’s fairly traditionally made, and has a bamboo reed. $6

-ceramic oil warmer, never used, $2

-jars of varying sizes, $2-$3 each depending on size (except for the tiny one which is $1). (I’ll give you a deal if you buy more than one)

All of the prices include shipping IF you live in the United States. I do everything via PayPal, and will ship after the payment transfers to my bank account.

If you are interested in buying or setting up a trade feel free to send me an email at att1cxr0se@gmail.com, or send a message to atticroses

Thank you!
